49 guests' feedbackThe facilities at Third Rock Guest House were just what we wanted for a stopover and the host was very friendly and made us feel welcome.
We were met outside by the host, Keith, what a nice surprise. He also made sure in advance that we were on our way and that we knew how to get to the destination. Keith is friendly and caring. The guest house is an exceptional old house with beautiful plank floors, door frames and doors and the most beautiful sliding wooden windows. And sitting and visiting on the wide porch with its red polished floor is a pleasant experience that takes you back to days gone by. The garden is a loop court that is maintained with care through dry periods. His staff is nice and my pets were received with great love and understanding. Thanks Keith.

Although the host was extremely helpful and friendly, living in 2023, you have to have modern furniture and appliances. DSTV package was rubbish and not enough done to have a pleasant stay during loadshedding.

In general the rating on your website is unacceptable at 5. The house is old and dilapidated. The house is next to the truck over-night stop and trucks are idling the whole night.
Although the costs of the accommodation were cheap, we would not recommend the guest house at all. It is old, the wooden floors are falling in, my children went home with splinters. The location is bad - it's opposite a large heavy vehicles overnight stop - it felt extremely unsafe for us as a family with two children.
Host very friendly and told us about attractions of the town and made special arrangements.

Owners were very friendly and immediately put us at ease. The rooms were bridal suite quality and the house felt like our own home only better.
Third Rock is a lovely old house with a pretty garden, including an interesting labyrinth. The owners are helpful and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. It is not luxurious, but it is clean, the bed is comfortable and has nice linen. As I had an hour or two to spare the owners showed me around Ventersburg which doesn't at first sight look like much, but is actually an interesting place. Only drawback is that there are no good restaurants in town, but that is not the fault of the owners. Otherwise, a good place to stop.

Ventersburg was a bittersweet experience for us: The beautiful old farmhouse with grandma's porch, combined with a trendy labyrinth for walking, the beautiful 100-year-old NG Church, well maintained, but with few people and little money left on the town since the N1 was laid. We had a wonderful stay in the well-equipped farmhouse with large rooms and mosquito nets over each bed. If you are security conscious this place may not work for you, but for a unique experience of "rural South Africa" they are highly recommended.
I made a reservation for the "Guest Room" as referenced on Third Rock's page. The photos indicate that this is a room in the main house with an en-suite tidy bathroom. On our arrival at Third Rock this was not the case and we were escorted to our room which is an off-site room. The room itself is semi-acceptable with neat bedding, although not up to the standard of the main house room. But the bathroom leaves a lot to be desired, as the sink and shower (with dirty shower curtain) are such that we didn't use them and couldn't shower after attending a wedding the night before, and furthermore the had towels on her hair. Extremely disappointed in the standard of Third Rock, and the misleading photos.
Booked for 2 en suite rooms and when we arrived they didn't receive the reservation and we had to take rooms without bathrooms. Not worth the price.
The client service was exceptional, because the owners met us when we arrived and later also checked in on us, although we were only staying for one day. My whole family (6 of us) loved the house, the braai area, the stoep and the surrounds. Very tranquil. I will definitely return here.

I just slept over the night on the way to Secunda. Keith and his wife were very helpful and Keith helped me fix my brake lights which were faulty and that in the dark and rain as I checked in later than I had planned. I will definitely stay there again if the opportunity arises. Facilities are very clean and I slept peacefully.

The service was excellent but unfortunately it's close to an overnight truck parking area which was very disturbing.

I booked a fully equipped self-catering room. Upon arrival I was shown to another property and given a room without fridge or aircon. I had to crawl around on the floor to find electric sockets. The TV didn't work. The kettle had to sit on the floor. The table was covered with plastic floor mats. The sink tap in the bathroom was completely loose. The coffee etc. was on an open plate on the table. The coffee bags were very old. When sleeping I had to lie in the centre of the bed to avoid falling off. All day long there was a noise that sounded like someone is banging against something. No information re places to eat was provided.
Heidie and Keith are the best hosts ever. They really know how to take care of their guests and they are always willing to help. Thank you guys and good luck for 2017. Hope it is a year filled with blessings.
We were very kindly welcomed after a long journey and upgraded to the house. This was welcome as our toddler was riding along. Everything was neat and well furnished. Would definitely recommend it.

Third Rock is definitely a unique guesthouse! And very well located right next to the N1 for people who are just looking for a place to overnight, but it's also ideal if you want to socialise.
The owner himself participates in the service that is given and sincerely keeps his hand on all aspects including the arrangement of attractions in the area.
The host, Keith, was very friendly and helpful. The accommodation was conveniently appointed, clean and neat. Everything fully equipped. You would expect to have to pay much more! Can really recommend this place.
The place is neat and a good place to stay the night. The owner is very homely and he has a passion for his environment. He still has work to do on the place but it doesn't bother him. Will definitely stay there again.
