It accommodates 6 adults and 3 children. Cottage Annabelle has a queen-size bed and a single bed, which is suitable for a child. Astrid Cottage has a queen-size bed and 2 single beds for children, and it features a toilet and an outside shower. Sam Cottage is fitted with a queen-size bed. Guests also have access to a separate toilet, an outside shower, a bathhouse with a stone bath and shower, as well as exceptional views. Piping hot water is supplied by a large boiler, which is prepared daily by a member of staff.
The main building offers a fully equipped self-catering kitchen and dining area, with large folding doors that open onto a porch. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge-freezer, second freezer, gas oven, gas stove, bar fridge, traditional cooking hearth, and cooking utensils. Wi-Fi access is available. There is a free-standing closed-door fireplace in the dining room.
The patio contains an indoor braai, a living area, and a large, comfortable daybed. The open patio is equipped with a round fire pit, additional braai facilities, and a plunge pool. The deck continues into a walkway, which leads to a lower deck situated under trees, with further views of the river.
Activities in the area include angling, birdwatching, boating, canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, hiking, and mountain biking. A beautiful, uncrowded beach can be reached by kayak or boat at the river mouth.

The silence, scenery and amenities exceeded our wildest expectations. How nice that the rooms are a short distance from the main building, especially if you are a larger group, so you can hang out when you want or slip away to your private cottage if you want some quiet. The staff are very friendly and helpful in the background. The donkey took care of many delicious, warm baths! Thank you very much for a wonderful long weekend!
The layout is so comfortable and affords the whole family their own private rooms to sleep in but is also a well-thought-out area for everyone to relax and spend some quality time together while having spectacular views of the river. Peaceful and relaxing. The wood we ordered from the hosts was really great too. Definitely a place I would love to return to.
Communication with the owner was great from the start. Nella, the lady who looks after the house is a wonderful person who takes such good care that everything is in order every single day. Thorn & Feather really is a piece of heaven on earth! It almost feels like you have a small Greek town all to yourself. What a great experience. We prepared everything on the fire. The stove in the kitchen was incredibly fun for me to cook and all my dreams of a simpler life came true here without sacrificing any comfort or safety at all. Our two dogs visited with us and were safe because the area is fenced. Just be aware of ticks. After all, it is in the forest. The view of the river and the starry sky at night will stay with me for a long time. Here I will rest again.

Separate sleeping units worked well and separate laundry room was interesting. Boat ramp on site perhaps serving surrounding properties would work well.

We had a wonderful stay at Thorn&Feather. Friendly welcome, explanation on the house as it is quite different. Basic but tastefully done, everything.
Incredible is the first word that comes to mind. Definitely one of the best places we have ever stayed. Incredibly nice and comfortable accommodation, and the best bathroom ever. Experience more hot water heated with a donkey and a bath overlooking the river and outdoors. Kitchen with everything you need and even a stove. Definitely a "bucket list" must! We can't get over how nice it was and will definitely be booking again soon. Ideal for couples, families or groups of friends. You can hang out around the fire, sit in one of the two pools on the deck, paddle on the river, and so much more. There is something for everyone to do. Perfect getaway without any disturbances.

Cleanliness was exceptional and one needs to take the minimum. Most beautiful location, rest for the soul and nice visiting area and porch. Can lie in the tub for hours with that view. Hope we can visit again soon!
First off, the accommodation is amazing! Decor suits us perfectly, eclectic comfort. The view is also incredible, totally surrounded by nature. The common room is relaxing, great in good weather and bad with glass windows that slide open all around. The kitchen has it all, I usually take my own important equipment along but this time I didn't need to (the knives actually cut). The deck is comfortable with ample furniture, great braai's (there are 2 indoor braai's too) and a fire pit. There is also an great little dip pool on the deck to take off the edge without going down to the river. It's a kids paradise with so much too explore, the children where finished every night. The deeper dip pool is just a level down with a private little viewing deck. The most amazing treat is the Bath-house, you'll feel like you're in your own private spa. If you like nature but are not to keen on camping, this is it. You'll be so relaxed you won't be able to move. I'd recommend a 3 night stay, 2 is just to short to really enjoy this place. Make sure you bring everything you need, there are no real shops in Vermaaklikheid.
