The accommodation comprises of 1 cottage and several unique tented camps to choose from.
Sit back and relax around your private fire pit, watch the stars, listen to the sounds of nature, and enjoy being in the bush. Make use of the large pool, to cool off in those hot summer days. The large boma is ideal for evenings in front of a bonfire surrounded by the sounds of nature; it can also be used for a braai or making your own potjies on a bigger scale.
There are no TVs in the camp; however, for those concerned about missing a game, nearby restaurants, pubs, and bars within the reserve are equipped with TVs.
There is also a small shop where guests can purchase firewood, ice, firelighters, ice cream, snacks, cold drinks, and other basic items.

60 guests' feedbackWe really had a good time.
It was a good experience and we enjoyed the wildlife. Friendly staff were very helpful.
The living quarters at the lodge were world class, and the jacuzzi was amazing. Will definitely visit the accommodation in the near future again.
Many thanks to Thorn Tree Bush Camp for a very nice Easter weekend. Your customer service is excellent, the cabin was neat and clean. We lacked nothing. A general advice is to close the bathroom for the pool users.
It was a very nice weekend. Very convenient!
When it comes to value for money when it comes to glamping, this is by far the best! Only wish we could have stayed longer.
It was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing stay.
Very nice, tents very hot so just take a fan with you.
Lovely stay, cute own bathroom. Friendly people!
Very nice. Relax and enjoy nature!
What a lovely place. Everyone is friendly and helpful at Thorn Tree Bush Camp. Game drives are definitely a winner! Had a wonderful time.
We had a lovely and peaceful weekend. The accommodation is very well equipped, neat, clean and comfortable. The staff looked after us very carefully and made sure we were happy all the time. A lot of wildlife seen just like that while we sit and barbecue at our tent. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.
Gem of a place very close to Gauteng, nice camp atmosphere with everything you need with friendly service and help. I would recommend Thorn Tree Bush Camp to anyone.
We had the camp to ourselves. Picked the right weekend to go away - everyone was very helpful, especially when we had to change tents because we didn't quite get along with the camper tent's bed which is on top. No issues. We were moved. Everyone was very friendly.
We will definitely return to Thorn Tree Bush. Our first 3 days were at the campsite with our own trailer tent. The ablution blocks are neat and clean. After that we stayed in Elephant Root tent for 7 days, what an experience, once again our own top notch bathroom facilities. Michael was a very pleasant host and Vusi was on hand to provide assistance wherever needed. You will definitely see us again.
Friendly service from all the staff, except the young lady who works at the reception. The power and water was off for about 5 hours, which wasn't a problem, but because the young lady handled it poorly when we called and asked about it, it became something that was very off-putting.
Wonderful camp with very friendly people.
Would 100% recommend, we had an absolute blast. Will be returning as soon as possible. Thank you to Uncle Rodney, Michael and Shanna for making the experience so amazing.
Friendly service, peaceful camp where you can just relax. Very clean and tidy. Nice food at the restaurant. Cute shop with just what you need at very good prices, e.g. wood. Thank you very much for a wonderful weekend - you will definitely see us again.
The staff are friendly and really go out of their way to be helpful.
The grass around the tents and on the way to the bathroom was long - maybe consider cutting it in the summer months. The game drives with guides are slightly expensive. Although it's nice that you can do breakfast and sundowners with the rides, it's still a bit expensive since you also have to pay the conservation fee. Much of the wildlife was at private lodges - so we couldn't see it on the drive itself. Other than that it was very nice - will definitely return again.
The visit was very pleasant and the tents were very neat and clean, but the tents are very close to each other which means that the person in the tent next to you cannot turn over in his bed without you knowing. There was also no hot water in the shared ablution block one morning. The ablution facilities are also "unisex" which makes for a strange shower every morning while someone sits next to you on the toilet doing their business.
We did enjoy the tranquility there but the other tents are close so if the people talk loudly or fight in the evenings then it is well heard. The bathroom and toilet would just like more shade so that the sun doesn't make it so hot there and you don't start to get red from the sun and if it rained the bathroom couldn't be used. The outdoor shower was nice. A one- or two-plate stove would have worked if you only want to make a fire all the time if you have to cook and if it rains there, which the clouds have raised a few times, you won't be able to cook there. The photos on the site are old and not as they are now - it's very misleading. It's not very nice to sit outside and watch all the tents, the forest doesn't hide it. There is no real luxury in the tent apart from your own bathroom.
Things inside the kitchen were broken and even the tents' zips were broken. It's an illusion they create to say it's fully equipped, because there was no microwave or toaster. The lady who welcomed us is very grumpy and doesn't make you feel welcome. We already felt on day 1 that we would rather go back home. For a 4 star rating, the bathrooms were poor. No place to put your stuff.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - the facilities are excellent and we can highly recommend Thorn Tree. The tents were comfortable and well fitted, though I would suggest perhaps taking a mosquito net with. The kitchen is fully equipped with absolutely everything you need - including even a flask and kitchen scissors! You literally need to arrive with only your food, clothes and swimming towels! The private outdoor shower (umbrella thorn site) was wonderful and the summer evenings around the braai, with nature's sounds and peace, were bliss.
It was a lovely getaway, close to Johannesburg and easily accessible for a weekend. We had a great time relaxing and the family tent was really very nice and had everything you need. It is a big plus that there is a restaurant so you don't have to pack and plan all your meals which makes the quick getaway even easier.
Comfortable accommodation - even for non-campers. Nice warm and comfortable sleep in the tents! The camp was fantastically equipped! Special service! Hope to see you again!
Very neat tents and we had a great time.
Liked the fact that the camp had a the limited amount of people staying. Loved the quirky bathrooms, just would have liked hot water in all showers.
We stayed in the Sickle Bush tent and it's perfect for a young couple. You really feel like you're in the nature away, from everything.
Very friendly and clean camp. We did a bush walk and a morning drive. Both were well organized and informative. We also enjoyed driving around ourselves.
We will definitely come again for a holiday. The place is well furnished and everyone is very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth visiting them.
We can really recommend Thorn Tree Bush Camp.
The tranquility, the cleanliness, the friendliness and the beautiful nature around you and the wildlife near your tent is incredible. It was a fantastic weekend. Will definitely book there again.
Thorn Tree Bush Camp will see us again.
Place is reasonably near.
Was very peaceful and beautiful. Place was clean and had everything you need for self-catering.
Very friendly and accommodating staff. Could hear lions and jackal sounds. Was lucky to observe wild within close proximity. Clean and comfortable. Great experience.
Very pleasant and peaceful! Neat and clean with a very friendly welcome. Wild ride was great fun! Will go again for sure!
Thanks, Oom Rodney, for the friendly reception and the chats. Thank you, Johan, that we could be behind you with the game drive. It was incredibly wonderful.
Lovely break-away, and so close to Johannesburg! Hosts, Rodney and Elzabe, and their staff were very attentive to our needs and made sure we had everything we needed. We camped at the Karee campsite and when we were 'blown out' by a strong storm they even had a spare tent for us. The peace and quiet and a bushveld sunset cannot be beaten. We will definitely return.
What an awesome time, the owner and staff are friendly and helpful and the camp is neat and clean, thanks once again.
If you want to get away for a weekend, a week or holiday this is the place to go to recharge, it is professional, the accommodation is excellent, everything you may need is available, it is clean and well looked after. The staff are professional and friendly, and if you want to enjoy a game drive book one with PJ. Rodney and Elzabe are truly excellent hostesses and hosts.
Very nice long weekend getaway for families who love animals and nature.
Upon arrival we were overwhelmed by excitement as we were welcomed by a beautiful place that exceeded our expectation by 100% .
Peaceful bush weekend with a short traveling distance.
See stars.
The best host/wife you could wish for. The game drive was very pleasant and the facilities clean, tidy and everything needed. We wanted to spend the weekend quietly in the woods and just barbecue nice meat and enjoy the surroundings and that's exactly what we could do. Thank you very much for the nice treat and friendly service.
Quiet forest atmosphere under very clean conditions.
Was awesome to sleep in the middle of the bush in luxury tents! Really enjoyed out time.
The camp terrain is neat. Client service is very good, they care about their guests. A nice getaway from the city without travelling too far away.
We were 5 separate families that booked a group of tents to celebrate a birthday. All tents were grouped together, so worked very well. Everyone had an awesome time. Big thanks to Thorn Tree Bush Camp's staff and for the assistance with booking.
Would maybe just recommend having a 2 plate stove available. Other than that very nice stay!
Very nice owners and staff. Amenities comfortable and tidy. Well located.
Friendly, personal service, fantastic bush experience. Facilities can improve a bit. Will visit again anytime.
Will definitely visit Thorn Tree Bush Camp again and it's neat and clean there, and everything you need is there to use. It's nice and quiet there and beautiful.
We had an incredibly nice weekend.
We really enjoyed being in nature like this. The tent is wonderfully laid out and we used the kitchen area a lot. The "en-suite" bathroom was definitely an experience.
It was a wonderful experience - nice and quiet, beautiful part of the bush - what a delight.
Very friendly service. Will definitely go back.
