The rondavel is a self-catering unit for 2 people seeing tranquillity in nature. It features a verandah with lovely views, and a firepit and braai for outdoor cooking. The front door leads into the bedroom with a queen-size bed, lounge, and en-suite bathroom with a gas-heated shower, basin and toilet. Linen and towels are provided.
The kitchen is in a separate building adjacent to the patio with large boathouse doors. There is also a daybed and dining table. The fridge is electric, there is a 2-plate gas stove, and there is a power source for charging devices. The rest of the rondavel relies sufficiently on solar lights, which are provided, oil lamps and candles. There is no microwave, oven, and no free Wi-Fi. The routine set-up for the rondavel includes water-wise sanitation, recycling and composting.
The farm has beautiful walking trails, an arboretum and a gorge with a small indigenous forest as well as a deck at the waterfall. Along the route is a plunge pool in amongst the fynbos for guests to use. The birding is fantastic and the clearing of invasive aliens is a full-time focus.
The unit is aimed at those who would like to immerse in the beauty and peace, although it is also close to beaches, wine farms and historical towns. The fynbos is excellent for botanically minded guests with many endangered and red data species and much diversity. It is an excellent getaway for nature lovers.
As the rondawel is in a nature reserve, we regret that no pets are allowed.

15 guests' feedbackWe had a magical stay at Tierfontein Rondawel. The location is absolutely stunning. The rondawel is comfortable and beautifully decorated. The kitchen is well-equipped and has everything you need. We enjoyed walking around and taking in the beautiful scenery. The plunge pool is a stunning place to watch the sunset.
Peace and tranquility with wonderful bird life, a beautiful manmade forest on your doorstep and the lily pond in front of the rondavel. Monet would lose his temper! Really beautiful place where you go to relax. Beautiful hike to a wonderful waterfall too and a very quaint swimming spot. Unfortunately the weather turned for us so we weren't able to use it this time.

We loved spending another weekend in Baardskeerdersbos. The photos don't do it justice at all. So peaceful and full of life.
Most loving, genuine people, sharing their piece of paradise! The bird life is fantastic and very prevalent. Beautiful scenery and walking routes. Warning: you will return feeling relaxed and refreshed. The only regret I had was not staying longer. 10 out of 10, would recommend.
Perfect escape away from city life, good for the soul, peaceful and everything you need to rest and reboot! If you enjoy hiking and adventure, I strongly recommend the walking trails and a visit to the waterfall!
Exactly what we were looking for. The only rondavel on the farm. Nicely hidden and extremely cosy! The hiking trails alone are incredible and we will definitely want to visit again.
Our stay at the Rondawel was superb. Liz was extremely helpful and friendly. We loved sitting on the stoep and listening to the wildlife around us. We did the trail to the Kloof - rather steep and slippery after the rain but there are helpful signs en route. Highly recommend to anyone wanting an escape from reality filled with busy schedules. Would love to return.
Rustic and tastefully set up, different platforms and areas to absorb and enjoy nature from just within a 10m radius. We absolutely loved the pond with its frogs and birdlife. We felt safe in our little nature bubble and were able to really rest well. The little hike into the gorge was also lovely. Next time we'll pack a picnic.

The only thing that was wrong about our stay at Tierfontein rondawel is that we couldn't stay longer. If you are a nature lover and looking for a quiet, peaceful get-away this is the perfect spot! Don't forget your hiking boots for the amazing walk in the kloof. We were in awe of the beautiful surrounds. The rondawel is so unique and has many personal touches that makes it even more special. We can't wait to visit again! Thank you Liz.
A very comfortable and relaxing space surrounded by trees, fynbos, birds and a beautiful pond. Very private and quiet. The walk to the waterfall is not difficult and the "plunge pool" is not too far and the view from there is worth the short walk. It is also the perfect spot for a sundowner. The kitchen has everything that one needs and the absence of a microwave was not missed. We will definitely stay there again. Love it.
Definitely for a nature lover, supply road and water quality must be improved. Beware of low bathroom upholstery!
This place is close enough to Baardskeerdersbos (if that's where you actually want to be), but far enough to enjoy the exquisite nature (wonderful coastal fynbos), so quiet and the hiking trail on the farm is something to experience. Simple rondavel, but spacious and stylish and separate kitchen is adequately equipped with all the basics you need. Kind owners sorted out a little issue with the geyser early on the Sunday morning. If I book again it won't be for work.

House rules
All linen and towels are provided and there is firewood for sale.The water is on gas and there is a small electric fridge. There is a power point in the kitchen to charge cellphones and cameras but the lighting is solar ,oil lamps and candles.
If you go out in the evening it is handy to bring a torch although there is one in the rondavel for your use.
Baardskeerdersbos only has a tiny café for the basics so its best to shop in Cape Town or Hermanus.
The drinking water is straight from the kloof and is perfectly safe however it has a tea colour and different taste that some people do not like, so perhaps bring a bottle or 2 just in case you feel the same.
