Timbavati Safari Lodge, in the African Bushveld, is engulfed in a pristine wildlife environment with a number of free roaming game. It is a family owned business a mere 20 km from the Orpen Gate of The Kruger National Park. The Safari Lodge is not situated in the Timbavati Private Reserve.
The 3-Star graded accommodation consists of beautifully, traditional Ndebele painted rondavels and family chalets, which are located amongst the shady trees and natural surroundings encouraging a relaxing, peaceful atmosphere. All 35 rooms are with en-suite, ceiling fans, small desk area and veranda.
The team at Timbavati Safari Lodge take pride in ensuring the guests have a memorable, African experience. After a long day game spotting in one of our, Kruger National Park registered open game vehicles, the newly furnished bar and restaurant is ready and waiting to serve our guests. Guests are welcome to relax at their rondavel on the outside veranda, by the swimming pool or alternatively in the lounge area.
In the evening, once the African sky is starlight, dinner will be served. Weather permitting, this could be a stunning evening enjoyed in either the reeded boma served with a traditional South African braai menu and African tribal dancing to follow or next to the swimming pool with a hearty African potjie, either way, the calls of the nearby wildlife will enhance the mystery of the African bush.
Timbavati Safari Lodge can offer day, sunset and night drive in the Kruger National Park or sunset drives in a private Big 5 nature reserve. Timbavati has many other activities to offer also to keep all the guest entertained. These can range from a local bush or cultural walk, a leisurely boat cruise in the Blyde River Canyon to take in the scenery, a visit to the local animal rehabilitation centres or for the more extreme adventures, hot air ballooning, elephant back safaris and many more.

Stay was ok, would appreciate coffee/tea in room, kitchen closes 3 hours. A lot of noise throughout the night, guests who play music until late, nearby taverns who play music throughout the night and until early morning - could not appreciate night sounds.
In 2015 we were there for 5 days, now for three days. We didn't get the rondavel we had asked for, but this was also ok. Spacious, good bed. Alas, a pity that the view is obstructed by the construction of the tents. Well, there are still quite a lot of animals that roam freely there. Breakfast is very good. Have dinner that is worth de Boma served is ample and of good quality. All in all had a few nice days.
The reception was excellent and professional. The people were all very friendly and helpful. When we made a request to be moved closer it was arranged within minutes. The dinner was stylish and very tasty. Once again the staff were at their post and the cook himself was also present. The breakfast was also well presented and tasty. Management is available at all times for any eventuality. I would book there again anytime.

Recommended as good value for money with delicious meals included. Boma area is a nice place to visit with the bar and swimming pool. Excellent road to Orpenhek.
Kylie the mangeress was always pleasant and helpful. Gave us good advise on places of interest to see in the area besides Kruger. Took into consideration my meal requirements and made sure I was happy. She also booked our game drives. Staff are humble and pleasant.
Very friendly and warm staff, they make you feel at home. The rooms/rondavels could be cleaner. The hospitality and preparing your bed for the night and the mosquito net a bonus. Boma dinner and boma atmosphere was lovely.
We had 5 nights in the lodge. It was a beautiful rondavel with good facilities, space and peace. The car easily next to the door and at the same time all kinds of animals walking in front of the roundabout. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The facilities such as the bar and restaurant are excellent and well equipped. You get a lot of value for your money and we hope to come back in the future if possible. We heartily recommend Timbavati Safari Lodge.
Room very tidy, but a kettle and some cups would have made a big difference. We only had one choice for dinner. R220 for braai meat and porridge is a bit much.
Weak, pathetic. There was loud music 24 hours a day coming from across the road. The dining hall was dirty and there is no dinner in a boma or by the pool as they advertise. The meals were poor. Breakfast was very late and the dinner was just plain "stew". Then they call it "african cuisine". I would not recommend the place to anyone at all, much less visit again myself.

The friendliness of the staff stands out. I haven't experienced such value for money in a long time. We will definitely stay there again.

It's a bit expensive for what you get. The lodge is located right next to the main road to Orpen Gate. On the opposite side of the road there is a residential area where a lot of noise came from such as loud music and cars speeding. The rondavels need a makeover, especially the shower floor is soapy. The mattress we slept on was worn out and in poor condition. I don't believe there is anyone who wouldn't have a sore back after sleeping on it. Then there were also some of the guests who couldn't behave at all and made a lot of noise. I believe that for the money I paid there I could definitely have gotten something better. Sorry but that's how I feel about it.
