We have 2, 4, 6, 8 & 10 sleeper comfortable, fully equipped self-catering cottages with private barbecue and camp fires. The 2 or 3 sleeper en-suite cabins share a kitchen and lounge in the boma and all the units have their own bathrooms with hot and cold running water and are serviced once a day. They have plug points, fans, electronic mosquito repellents and linen. The Wi-Fi is free for the first half hour only, and is in a designated area only.

We enjoyed the tranquility.
I would recommend that something be done about the sound between 2 apartments. You could hear your neighbors talking. The braai places were also a problem, couldn't use them at all when it rained. Will think that maybe a roof should be put over it.
No cars or people making noise. The cottage was cleaned every day and our host, Lindsey, was very pleasant.
It was restful, despite the continuous rain. Whilst the rustic look/feel was appreciated, getting wet whilst using the toilet was not. However, the charges to visit the beach were not mentioned (this can become costly if a large group visits on a daily basis). Improved markings to the destination will make it easier, especially for those arriving at night. Cellphone signal is very bad indeed.
We had a good stay and it was suitable for our needs. We had originally booked and paid deposits for the 6 sleeper plus the 2 x 4 bed cabins. Unfortunately, the 6 sleeper was then unavailable for our booking. We were fine with the room changes.
Place has a lot of potential but is a bit neglected.
Location was terrible, roads were blocked with roadworks and no one communicated this to us! We had to wait 1 hour to go to our cabin! Had to ask for the loadshedding schedule, the ceiling of the cabin had spiderwebs, bedding was not once changed in those 4 nights, communal kitchen had pool chemicals stored under a sink. Not safe for kids! It's more than 10 km away from the beach. The road is so small.

The helpfulness and kindness of Janice and her team cannot be measured on a scale. Truly a place where you can kick off your shoes, sit around the campfire late at night and visit.
One has a great deal of privacy because the layout, we didn't really know how many other people were staying there. The beds are decent, the shower water hot, and everything in the house worked. We only had one problem (our fault), didn't read the whole email which says at the bottom that towels are not provided - but they responded immediately and helped us out, so 100% satisfied. Just advised them to make it more clear to guests that towels are not provided.
We had an incredibly nice stay. The room is cleaned every day and kept tidy. The management is friendly and very helpful. We will definitely stay here again when we come to holiday in Sodwana.

Janice is really a very pleasant person and immediately attended to little problems, had a delicious barbecue every day and occasionally cooled off in the pool (when we weren't at the beach). Cottage was cleaned very nicely every day, etc.

Beautiful scenery, very peaceful environment. The units are located in such a way that one feels as if you are alone there in the forest. Enjoyed the privacy.
Our accommodation as divers was convenient and the facilities were neatly cleaned every day. The kitchen is conveniently set out where you feel like you are in your own home. Braai facilities conveniently located near the cabins and kitchen. The cabins are comfortable with a fan for the heat and a bathroom.
We had a peaceful 10 days. The rooms were cleaned every day. Lindsay made sure everything was ok on a daily basis. He took us out for sundowners where my vehicle couldn't go. Would definitely recommend Toad Tree Cabins if you just want to relax.
Our apartment was clean and tidy. Lindsey made us feel welcome we felt safe the whole time special thanks to Lindiwe who always kept the place clean. I would like to have a kettle in the apartment.
Units are very neat and comfortable - power is a big issue though (wasn't load shedding). The shower taps kicked us, and we couldn't shower, the one time we were able to locate the owner she mentioned that if this happens we have to shower with our patches. Power kicked off a lot at the power box that powers 4 units or a block - we looked for the owners at their home/office and couldn't locate them at all to deal with the problem.
The way to get there is very difficult and not easy for ordinary vehicles to drive. There is no indication of where to turn to them, except when you are already on the gravel road that goes to them. The road to them is a long stretch of sea sand and was very difficult for my Nissan Juke to ride there without worrying about me getting stuck. The place itself is not quite as neat as the photos, there are paint splashes on their curtains, the place is full of dust, as if it wasn't cleaned before we got there. They do not have extra blankets in case someone gets cold during the night. I confirmed by phone with the lady that we wanted to check in at 10:00, when we arrived there at 11:30 am they were not really ready for us.
Will recommend the place to my friends.
It was very pleasant and comfortable.
Was very nice, peaceful environment and very pretty. They have to let people know in advance that the road isn't really suitable for a car, but rather a 4x4.
The guest house was very comfortable and clean. It was perfect for us with the 4 children and Janice was very pleasant. We will visit again and although it was 15 minutes from the beach it was peaceful and quiet especially over new years.
The place also had power cuts from time to time and then there is no hot water either.
We had to pay to access the beach, it was an additional R3400 for 10 days! (Wasn't mentioned to us ahead of time). Swimming pool has no stairs, one cannot get in and out, road is not made for normal vehicles. They service the cabins every day, but this does not include dishes, another R30 per day. It was not a holiday atmosphere, felt more like a retirement resort!
All our groceries were stolen from our fridge, Janice didn't really know what to do.
We could not enter on the road to the cabins because it is not a gravel road, it is a sea sand road. We had to find other accommodation and we had damage to our car from being stuck in the sand. The lady at the cabin was not helpful at all, she kept saying that she couldn't understand that we were stuck because her little car was driving through it. It's loose sea sand, it's like riding on the beach. We found a guy on the side of the road to help us. The service at the place was pathetic, we couldn't even drive in far enough to see what the place looked like inside.
For those who are not bothered to do the "rustic" accommodation, Toad Tree is perfect! We will definitely go back next year.
I paid for a house and a cabin. The house has its own kitchen, the cabin must make use of the communal kitchen. So I could use the communal kitchen. Our fridge wasn't working, so we used the fridge assigned to our cabin. Every time we used the communal kitchen, the owner made nasty comments. The one night we used a pot from the communal kitchen, there was food left that we wanted to eat at breakfast the next morning. The morning the owner walked into our house (without knocking) and wanted to take the pot - with the food in it. This is just some of the incidents. This was such a lovely place, but I will NEVER stay there again because of the owner.
If you want a quiet time with your family, book with them. My husband and child and I had a wonderful time, and it was a pleasant vacation. Thank you very much!
Toad Tree Cabins are for outdoor lovers. The outdoor bathroom facilities were clean and tidy. Here you are dependent on yourself.

Guests sleep over in "zozo huts" and the kitchen is shared. We were lucky to take a gas stove with us just in case. We were not really willing to share our facilities with other people.
The sand road to Toad Tree Cabins is a narrow one-way road which means that one of the vehicles has to drive in reverse for some distance when there is an oncoming car. The wooden houses are small and dark and very basic furnished with poor lighting. The outdoor shower had nice hot water, but the reeds weren't quite dense enough in places for privacy. The kitchen facilities are adequate.

Toadtree cabins is an owner-run lodge situated in Sodwana Bay, a beautiful nature reserve along the North Coast and offers a tranquil retreat in a stunning natural setting and is ideal for couples and families. This self-catering house can accommodate 12 guests and comprises 3 bedrooms and a loft that serves as a fourth bedroom. The main bedroom contains a queen-size bed and has an en-suite bathroom fitted with a bath and a shower. We have 2, 4, 6, 8 & 10 sleeper comfortable, fully equipped self-catering cottages with private barbecue and camp fires. The 2 or 3 sleeper en-suite cabins share a kitchen and lounge in the boma and all the units have their own bathrooms with hot and cold running water and are serviced once a day. They have plug points, fans, electronic mosquito repellents and linen. The Wi-Fi is free for the first half hour only, and is in a designated area only.
The African sunset sees you sipping sun downers beside the pool, or exchanging tales around the camp fire, watching the sparks fly into the dusk, the only sound the sizzling of meat on the braai, a log shifting in the flames and the occasional beat of an African drum.

Toad Tree Cabins is within an hours drive from some of the world's renowned Big 5 Game reserves, namely Mkhuze, Ndumu, Phinda, Tembe Elephant Park and Hluhluwe/Umfolozi. The nearby Mkhuze Game Reserve, only 30km away is known for it’s antelope including vast numbers of the endangered nyala, serval cheetahs, African wild dog, lion and elephant. The bird life is the best SA has to offer and is truly a bird lover paradise with 420 different species including pelicans, flamingo's and yellow-billed storks.
