The chalets are fully equipped for self-catering, with a fridge, stove, cutlery, and braai facilities. There is also a campsite for those who prefer to bring their own tent or caravan. The campsites have electricity, and braai facilities, and use of ablution blocks with hot and cold water.
The lapa has a fully licenced bar and is the ideal location for social braais. The swimming pool is located close to the play area, camping sites, cottages and lapa. The a la carte restaurant is open daily. The petting zoo, which is popular with kids, has horses, geese, goats, sheep and cattle. You can conveniently fill up your car, boat or jet-ski on location.
Tom's Place Resort would like to appreciate the vast expanse, fishing, birdlife and magical sunsets in our special piece of the Free State.

51 guests' feedbackWe had a great time. 40 km from home. Felt like a real vacation. Too delicious!
There was initially a small snag with our booking, but it was soon resolved. Chalet (no. 5) is very well equipped. Had no problems with loadshedding, the air-con saved us on a cold winter night. We will stay there again.
Yes, basically just overnight because we were at a wedding.
Yes, it was delicious, everything is fine.
Definitely value for money!
Had a very good night's rest. Tidy.
Shower in chalet 15 needs attention. DStv is not working.
We had a nice stay, but definitely won't be going back soon or recommending the place to friends. Check-in for chalets is only 1 o'clock in the afternoon and not 7 o'clock as stated on the website. We called and asked if it was necessary for a gazebo to sit by the water or if there were canopies. Told us there's no need for a gazebo, believe me, if you're fishing, take your gazebo with you. At 9 o'clock in the evening we are grilling, then the sprinklers arrived. I call the office and they promise to send someone. Of course they didn't, so we had to make a plan ourselves.
Only arrived late but woke up to a beautiful view and wishing we could have spent the day there as well.
The accommodation is well located and very peaceful with geese in the background and a pond as a view.
Upon arrival, they couldn't find our reservation at first. Place was empty. Yet they give us one of the worst units (number 19) at the back with no view of the pond or any grass in front. The only shower is in the bathtub, which is absolutely unusable. The "bracket" is too low against the wall and it was broken, so the shower could not be used. Some of the sheets on the beds had dirty spots. Mattresses are over the wall. The kitchen only has small glasses. When we left the next day and mentioned the problems to the reception, we were looked at funny.
In need of a big make-over, inside and outside. Water and drainage need to be looked at. Photos do not always give a true picture.
Neat, quiet and a good rest stop from the Cape to Pretoria.
Such a great end to our holiday in the Cape and a good distance 940km to travel for day 1 from the Cape to Pretoria.
Very peaceful, beautiful view, will definitely stay there again!
Close to the highway, safe and friendly.
Neat and friendly staff, just a pity for the mosquitoes!
Units inside are clean and tidy but the place is old and neglected. No petting as advertised.
Thank you. It was good enough and well located. No music is allowed and it is very quiet. Nice view of the dam.
The manager, Michelle, was incompetent on the phone, the mobile phone number on web page and according to booking is out of order. The store has limited stock. The stay was average. Had better amenities for the same price before.
We got there on the Saturday evening and there was local power which did not correspond at all to the schedule that was put down in the kitchen. We also couldn't shower or bathe at all. There was no hot water and no water pressure at all. There was also no toilet paper in the bathroom. If we didn't have toilet paper in the van, we sat completely without toilet paper either.
Will definitely recommend. Farm animals were a hit with my daughter. Very clean campsite.
Dated interior (furniture and appliances), untidy exterior (uneven and broken paving/driveway) needs work or reduce rates.
The distance was perfect from the coast, the restaurant could serve us food, the ablutions served it's purpose.
Although close to N1 we hardly heard the traffic. Only unexpected key deposit of R200. Remember to summarize.
Road to caravan park extremely poor. Virtually no water in shower. Thin, weak beam. Reception unfriendly. Would never stay there again myself.
The accommodation had everything we needed. The outlook was lovely. Breakfast at the restaurant was very good and I appreciated the offer of a knee-rug!
Was very nice will stay there again.
Very nice location and conveniently close to N1.
Lovely, soul-enriching farm atmosphere. The tame animals around you are so cute!
Good. Needs upgrading in certain areas.
We could not find the reception office, struggled to open the door of the chalet. Got no response to the bell at the gate to the restaurant got bitten by one of the small dogs being walked down to the dam. Sewerage leak outside our chalet. Comfortable room, nice view and access to the dam, easy checkout. Well signposted on the main road.
Poor maintenance. Place clean but run down.
We were tired from driving from Cape Town. It was 38°C, and we were all hot and tired. We were kindly received. The air conditioning was on in the chalet and the place was delightfully cool. The place was impeccably clean, tidy and well equipped. Their restaurant is open 24 hours and offers affordable meals and they have everything imaginable in the store. The babies were able to cool off in the pool and felt much better afterwards. Definitely a place I highly recommend!
Enjoyed the stay. Clean, neat unit. Friendly reception.
I enjoyed staying there, place is good and quiet. I think I'll take my fiancee there for our honey moon. Activities are also good, the view of dam is amazing, even the relationships among the guests were good. So in general Tom's Place Resort is a place to be! I really enjoyed my stay. Thank you very much.
We were very happy with the service, cleanliness and accommodation.
It is an ideal overnight stop on the way to your destination in the Cape, just before you are tired from driving from Pretoria you can relax there and spend the night!
Kitchen facilities very basic. No salad bowl, grater, veg peeler etc. Nice area near the water, we enjoyed nature and outdoor life.
Get what you pay for. Short attention span here and there, but no bad sleep at all.
Tom's Place is definitely not value for money. It cost me, after so-called discounts, R816 for two people per night. The quality, cleanliness etc do not match the rate. R400 would have been closer to the spot. These rooms were probably built in the 1970s and have never been renovated. Water pressure was so low I couldn't wash properly. I would have done better washing out of a two gallon ice cream tub! Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews ahead of time - big mistake! I would have seen many people have complained for a long time. Tom's Place never see me again.
Friendly on entering, were not informed about the R 200 key deposit. Loud music from neighbours on arrival and early (08:00) on Saturday morning as well on the Sunday. I feel the bathroom was not clean and full of dust. For the amount that we paid, I expected more especially no view, and there were not people book in on the front view. Linen and blankets are old, and those cats on the wall?
My partner and I and our friends chose to stay at Toms Place as there was a festival at The Oude Kraal. It was about 8 km away so we were glad it was so close. The place was neat and clean. The heater was already switched on because it was winter. Very nice and cosy place. The only negative comment was the water pressure in the bath shower. The pressure was really bad and you have to turn constantly for some time to get the rightl temperature. One has to get a perfect medium between extremely hot and ice cold. A bit old-fashioned style but as long as it's clean and tidy, I'm very happy. It worked out R480 per couple so it would not be expensive at all. When we arrived at reception, they asked for R100 cash deposit. I just thought they should let you know earlier because I never carry cash with me.
Very friendly - we moved our stay up after our transport truck's gearbox broke - they were very accommodating. And said that when we are ready just let them know.
Well located, but very neglected. Limited TV stations, bed old and one can feel springs, restaurant/take away closes at 18:00. Would not stay longer than one night.
Friendly service, hot water, but bedding very old and broken bins inside and outside. Concise
Not recommended. The photos are misleading, weak water pressure and dirty, the place and area needs attention. I won't stay there again.
Photos are misleading of unit we stayed in. The unit/furniture is old and dilapidated. Red ants all around the house. Couldn't even unload vehicle properly as ants bite you and then another plague of mopeds too. Couldn't put down any food or open drinks. Grills were dirty and we went to eat at a restaurant. Very good service from waitress and food was great. Ceiling fans in bedrooms will help with heat and keep away mosquitoes. Bedding was pretty clean.
Have had better accommodation at R960 per night. Reception is not much to speak of. Rooms are indeed large with full bathroom facilities but cleanliness/ beauty of carpets can be improved. It's quite safe to stay there but there is no mention of personal service or atmosphere. You are left to your own devices. TV is not a high priority for me, but reception was poor and there were only 1 or 2 channels. MNet was the only program with reasonable reception. Not worth the money.
