Tancredi is ideally situated for all events that take place in Pietermaritzburg as it is not far off the N3 highway and it is close to the town centre. It is also close to the University of KwaZulu-Natal, all the private hospitals and the many schools on the Durban side of Pietermaritzburg.

The area for the guesthouse is conveniently located, but it is not a safe area. Everything was clean and neat. The breakfast included in the price was also very tasty. The staff were friendly. The decor of the house is dated. The pillows and duvet covers were also old. The king-size bed was too big for the specific room, which limited moving space.

Arrival: Struggled to get hold of someone. Room: Door didn't lock, got another room and bathroom was dirty. Toilet didn't flush properly. Security: Locked out of house, could not get in, struggled to get hold of someone to let me in so I can get to my room. Breakfast: What a joke, not recommended. Asked for soft eggs, got rubber instead, teaspoon of mushrooms, and a sad strip of bacon, waste of time.
I'm afraid the home needs maintenance and some TLC. Very dilapidated.
Place was dirty and unsafe! Windows broken, front door could not lock. Overall not a worth B&B at all!
Not what we expected at all, would not recommend it at all.
It was a pleasant night's stay with a very tasty and filling breakfast. The only criticism is that the toilet seat was broken. I reported this to management and they promised to attend to it immediately.
One can see that Tancredi was once an outstanding B&B, but is in need of maintenance, e. g. cracks in walls, fallen down gutters, needs painting. Blinds in room can't be pulled up because of broken strings, we were served with chipped crockery. This needs attention. Can Covid and the difficulty the hospitality industry experienced be the reason?
Limited space, very little cupboard space and had to be cleared first. No hairdryer, no milk or fridge to keep items cold. Had to ask for second towel. While eating breakfast, we were asked how we were going to pay for the food.
The room itself was in good condition. The public areas and outside areas requires maintenance. Overgrown grass and garden area around the pool area. The first night (Friday Night), there were other in house guests swimming and partying until early hours of the morning. The property must have rules in place for guests. I do feel that this property is suitable for a 1 night stay and not a weekend away. Would also recommend air freshener dispenses to be placed throughout the property indoors especially. Very basic breakfast as well - did not enjoy breakfast at all - we skipped breakfast the second day. Property needs to be aware to serve wrapped muffins, individual packed yoghurts etc. due to Covid.
Unfortunately, the photos on the website - just like the previous location - are not the same at all. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The photos on the website and what we got were not the same at all. Misleading.
Maybe it was a beautiful place long ago, now badly neglected! So disappointed! Always thought if we booked through website it would be good place in a good area, not the case at all. Never seen owner either, it's a scary place!
Guests checked in at 4am and made a lot of noise which disturbed visitors.

The guest house is very centrally located in terms of schools and sports facilities.
Tancredi has a lovely, warm atmosphere and the owner was very welcoming and hospitable. An old house which is well located, especially for where we needed to go. The room was large and comfortable, and had everything one requires when travelling. The bonus on a cold evening was the wall heater which worked effectively. Breakfast was really great. Safety of guests is a priority!

Whan a lovely stay! Ann is the best hostess I have ever had. The room was vwry clean and spacious as was the bathroom. Ann is warm and loving and very organised and accommodating. She even got up at 03:00 AM to fix all our Comrades runners the breakfast of our choice! And she even took the time to check in after the marathon to hear if I made it. We wil definitely be making use of this accommodation each year for Comrades. Thank you Ann, you made us feel so welcome!

My father is a pensioner, can only understand Afrikaans and is hard of hearing. He was full of praise for how the English hostess came to meet him to make him feel welcome. Ann really looked after my father so well when he checked in alone for the model steam train rally. My father felt so pampered in an incredibly neat and comfortable environment and can't stop talking. I would recommend Trancedi with confidence.
