"Above says it all."

Good morning. Tranquility weekend ……. A family weekend away, what could be better. Great excitement and even greater expectations as we all left Cape Town. Rather expensive but we were sure that for the price everything would be 100%. We arrived and the position is lovely, on the water just what we wanted, but that is where the loveliness ends. We paid for 6 rooms for 12 people and were told that we would be allocated R500 electricity for the three nights that we were there, which ran out on the last day. Just as well we didn’t use the jacuzzi or the air-conditioning that was advertised as it might have been a worse situation. And now for the house review: There is a TV and decoder, but we were charged an extra R50/day, which promptly went off early on the last day, so we only really had the TV for 2 ½ days. There is no dishwasher, which is a standard in holiday homes, so we paid extra for a cleaning lady to come in each morning. The bedrooms all had very old and in some cases broken duvet covers, curtains that were hanging half off the rails, and bedside lamps with no plug in the wall. The one bathroom had a broken toilet seat. There were no braai tongs, so we bought one for R200 and left it behind. I requested a refund but never received a reply. The geyser leaked so we had to place a bucket for the drips to avoid anyone slipping on the wet tiles. The shower drains in both of the front room’s bathrooms were blocked and overflowed when the shower was used. The shower heads in all 4 downstairs bathrooms need a clean as the water just squirts out in places. The swimming pool has a major leak so needs to be filled up from time to time. The freezer doesn’t freeze, more like a fridge than a freezer. And now to top it all, after I was told that I needed to pay a R20.00 breakage deposit that would be returned a week after our stay, well it’s been 10 days and still nothing, even after asking the managing agents, nothing has transpired. R20.00 for a 3-night stay was a complete rip-off and I think if the owners of Tranquility would like to carry on renting out this home, they really have to up their game!

"Will not recommend!"

We are a large family who have been holidaying from the Cape and paid for 3 nights for a house full of mistakes! For starters we have waited 20 min. outside Port Owen for Melanie (hostess) who let us know that she are almost in town and she can meet us at home soon. We waited for Melanie for 45 minutes. This is after we have followed up twice on how far she is. Eventually she came and welcomed us. She was friendly, but from the start she started pointing out mistakes that we needed to watch out for. A bunch of keys was given to us, but not once did she show which key was for which door. The tags are so old you can't read anything. The pool has cracked tiles all around which are dangerous to any person standing there. In addition, Melanie tells that the small pool is leaking and we have to watch out that he doesn't get too empty or the pump burns out! We are told the garden hose is around the corner and we have to make it perfect. The fridge in the kitchen's one leg is off and lies against the upright-standing freezer and we are told that if the fridge's fan may stop we just have to open and close the door a few times then it will come again ! The kettle, an old rusted boiler from Shoprite who saw better days, is in the kitchen. When we used it later, we realised the spout had burst open and water was flowing down the boiler, and more water was coming to the counter than in your cup! Melanie promised to bring a new one, we were still here! No gas or very little gas. Melanie tells us she thinks the previous people were using everything and she would bring us the next day, but she couldn't find anything today because the whole town has no gas. For us who paid so much, she could have gone to Vredenburg for gas. Jacuzzi: One day the water smelled like chlorine, then we noticed that the Jacuzzi did not have fresh water when we checked in. Instead, a lot of chlorine was poured in and burned from our people's skin. Day two we could not at all use the Jacuzzi due to the rotten water smell. Broken curtain rail: One day when one of our people wanted to use the toilet and the curtain closed, the whole rail came off the wall. It was said that it was so and she knows it. Leaking Toilet: on day 2, one of the bathrooms' toilet began to leak into the room as a result of which many of our personal items were wet and damaged. When we reported it to Melanie she said she would send someone on Friday (when we would check out). She sent somebody earlier, but it started to leak again. My children had to go home earlier because of the leaking toilet! Upstairs bedroom: The top-floor doors can't close and are unsafe. Bedroom that overlooked the canal lookout patio doors we wanted to open. After I have been through the whole bunch of keys to see which key is just right, I realised that the key is just broken. General: The kitchen equipment and crockery are of extremely poor quality (not even 4 of one kind of glass, plastic champagne glasses and chopped plates etc.). The mattresses are also cheap and thin and beds crack. No second TV in main bedroom as advertised. Table tennis rackets broken and no whole balls. Broken lounge furniture (completely unravelling cane chair). We wonder if the owner is aware of the condition of his home and all these mistakes. One can see that no money obtained by guests is put back in the home's maintenance. We would not recommend this house to anyone.
