The Transkaroo Lodge is a true gem in the vast Karoo landscape and offers the perfect halfway stay between Gauteng and the Cape.
Very neat and comfortable. Meals at the restaurant very nice. Friendly and helpful reception.
What a wonderful stay there! 𝘏𝘭𝘭𝘭 𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘪
Great overnight accommodation.
We always have a great stay at the Transkaroo Country Lodge. It's well located, quiet, tidy, safe and wonderful to enjoy the 'old world glamour'. What makes it even better is the nice restaurant on the ground floor with the most delicious home cooking. In addition, the staff is also friendly and helpful. Overnight at the TCL makes the way home shorter! Thank you again for a nice stay.
The accommodation was very nice and clean. Staff were friendly.
It offers excellent value for money. We slept well in clean facilities. Although the traffic through the town can be heard in the evening, the nice high quality bed makes up for it.
Stay was very pleasant. Everything clean and tidy. In reception, the service was fast. Dinner was very nice peasant food and breakfast was also very filling. Would recommend anytime.
Fabulous place to stay between Cape Town and Johannesburg. Our 2nd visit and can highly recommend. Everything you need after a day's travelling. Delicious food and a warm and comfortable bed. There is a beautiful courtyard to have a drink in the summer months.
I always enjoy staying at Transkaroo Lodge. The reception is friendly, rooms clean and the general atmosphere very festive. Food and service are always good too. I drive corners to be able to sleep here. All staff are consistently friendly and helpful.
Amazing atmosphere and the food is of high quality. The staff are friendly and helpful. Will stay there again for sure.
What a gem! Feel like you are in the middle of Paris, France. The rooms are clean and tidy, the outdoor courtyard is the most wonderful place to relax in after a long journey. The buffet dinner is top notch and the breakfast is delicious. A fantastic stopover heading north.
Conveniently situated, and oasis in the hot dusty Karoo, comfortable, clean and friendly.
A lovely family-run lodge with friendly staff.
Thank you, we really enjoyed it.
Very nice stay, very friendly service and the cleanest rooms.
Always good at Transkaroo Country Lodge. Arrival was confirmed early in the morning, and we were received very kindly. Service excellent, and room as always very clean and tidy. Dinner was again very nice. We wanted to leave very early, and they assisted us.
Transkaroo Country Lodge is a small oasis in the otherwise run-down town of Britstown. It was the ideal place for us to stay as it was exactly halfway between the Cape West Coast and our home in Pretoria. We had a great time relaxing at the beautiful pool area. The decor is tasteful and it almost felt as if we were visiting somewhere in a villa in France. The service was very friendly and top notch. The owner came to check in personally when we reported a problem with the TV and WiFi. The secure parking allowed us to sleep peacefully. I have already recommended the lodge to friends who will soon be driving that route and we will definitely stop there again when we go in that direction. 10/10, thank you very much.
Very nice, very neat, everything you need, delicious food, thank you very much.
Comfortable accommodation, neat and clean, with a restaurant on site. Would recommend anytime.
This is the second time we have stayed at this establishment. The food was good, as was the service. We will definitely go back in the future for a third visit.
Good customer service.
Excellent service. Room clean. Secure parking. Great buffet dinner. WiFi not up to expectations; depending on proximity to router.
Very friendly reception. Delicious dinner. Open porch area for smokers chases non-smokers away - allow smokers by pool or on street.
Service was pretty good. Mattresses and bathrooms need urgent replacement and attention. Food well priced but carvery ridiculously expensive.
We had a nice stay and had a delicious meal that evening. Friendly reception, and very friendly waiters! We were in room 28 and the bathroom was disappointing. Showerhead did not want to work and had to be removed so that sufficient water would come out. Floor soon gets wet from the splash and is soapy. There was no shower mat.
We were received very hospitably and the food was delicious. A nice stopover for the long way to Cape Town.
The room was neat and clean, but comfort-wise needed some attention to detail. There were 3 beds in a small room for two people, but only one small unstable chair, one drinking glass, and no water jug. No hand towels or shower mat or towel rails in the very cramped bathroom. There are over 20 other rooms (mostly unoccupied) and so, with a bit of planning, a 2-person room could be better appointed.
Good service, friendly staff and safe area.
Yes, for sure. I cooled down nicely in the nice and clean pool. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Safe parking for the car was a peace of mind.

This establishment is a good overnight stay. The staff are friendly, and the room was neat and clean. We found the kitchen service for both dinner and breakfast to be extremely slow. On checking out, we were informed that the head chef was ill.
We had a better stay here.
Very nice stay. Sorry there is no WiFi.
I enjoyed my stay, especially the breakfast, and the rooms were very clean and neat.
Slept well. Room was in back by pool. Food (buffet was nice).
Excellent food from the buffet - pay per weight of the plate. The dining room is in a nice setting. Wines are a bit expensive. No direct access from parking to rooms.
For a quick something to eat, and a quiet place for the evening it is sufficient. Very friendly staff and very helpful. Wooden floors are certainly not always easy, they make a lot of noise. We had to turn on all the lights in the seating areas and corridors ourselves when we arrived. The atmosphere was a bit cold on the top floor and in the room. The restaurant is beautiful and the food is delicious.
Friendly reception and staff. Room was clean and dining hall something special. Pleasant.
It was wonderful in the Karoo village.
The room was neat and clean, but tiny. The shower did not work properly, and the lady at the front desk was not much help when I reported it to her. Considering what we paid for the room, we were disappointed. The restaurant was lovely though, and the food and the restaurant staff were great. If we were to be in Britstown again, I would definitely use the restaurant again, but would overnight elsewhere.
They moved us to another room because the plumbing in the bathroom was out of order. The new room had no bathroom, and we had to share facilities with other rooms. Surely they were aware of the issue before we arrived. The room had coffee and cups, but no kettle. Really not a great experience.
As always had a great time. The buffet dinner was legendary, as always.

I suspect we will be planning our route North and back via Britstown from now on. Transkaroo Country Lodge is clean, tidy and beautiful. The restaurant is a big surprise and the food is fantastic. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is a delightful halfway oasis and just the right place to rest after a long day on the road. Thank you very much.
Good service, outside recreation area very nice and staff were friendly.
Beautiful lodge with exceptional decor. I recommend the dinner. Value for money and tasty.
When we arrived, Transkaroo Country Lodge did not have our reservation. The lady at reception immediately helped with an alternative room. Although it was not the room we booked, it was spacious, comfortable with a comfortable bed. Service throughout was friendly and the buffet dinner was highly recommended. Secure parking behind locked gate.
What a nice place. Friendly people, amazing food and the cutest things for sale - this is definitely a must stop.
Dinner is always good. They also have a good wine selection, and the courtyard is really lovely to enjoy a pre-dinner drink. The WiFi is not great and could be improved upon.
Friendly, neat, peaceful atmosphere.
The rooms are small but comfortable. Rooms on the first floor have a separate shower, while rooms on the ground floor have a shower in the bath. The buffet dinner is special, you pay for how much you eat. Our shower alternated on and off between boiling and freezing, not very pleasant.
Warm and friendly reception, neat room and cute restaurant on site had delicious dinner and breakfast. Their cappuccino is one of the best. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
The Transkaroo is a long-established hotel run by a committed and involved owner. All staff was friendly. The room was very clean and beautifully appointed. I would highly recommend the dinner buffet. It is home-cooked meals of the highest quality. I am looking forward to staying over in the summer as there is a beautiful pool and outside courtyard to enjoy.

Wonderful accommodation and the Transkaroo Country lodge is an oasis in Britstown. Very friendly people and good service.
Rooms were clean and tidy, beds comfortable. Safe environment. Delicious food, cold beer and wine. Thank you very much.
We often stay overnight at Transkaroo Country Lodge - their room rates are reasonable and the buffet dinner excellent. Rooms are small but comfortable and everything is very nice clean and tidy.
We travel a lot and never have I come across the friendlier staff. They were so helpful and made is feel at home at once with their warm smiles and attentiveness. The rooms were clean and tidy and the food was excellent! Will definitely recommend it to anyone who needs a halfway stop between JHB and CPT.
Beautiful lodge with friendly staff and delicious food!
Everyone went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible.
Lovely, peaceful atmosphere and fantastic food.
Comfortable with friendly staff. Waiters in the restaurant also extremely friendly, but could be better trained in customer service. (Perhaps too few staff to manage a full restaurant?).
The lodge is beautiful with its old wooden floors and neat rooms. Food was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would stay there again anytime.
Travelling from Cape Town to Pretoria is a good halfway stop over.
Our room was comfortable enough and tidy. The friendly hostess and staff made us feel welcome. Secure undercover parking was a bonus. The buffet dinner was excellent.
Was a pleasant experience, staff very friendly and the food was fantastic.
Excellent service, we were warmly welcomed. The dinner was excellent and we also used the swimming pool, nice in the Karoo heat.
Everyone who works at Transkaroo Country Lodge is very friendly and we really enjoyed the food! The room was very neat.
Beautiful courtyard and dining room - great for relaxing. Buffet dinner was very flavorful with good variety but very expensive.
Very comfortable overnight stay between Pretoria and Cape Town instead of Kimberley. Comfortable rooms, also for family of 5 people. Shower water very difficult to set right temperature. Very nice restaurant with buffet meals!
If you are planning a road trip you should include this as a historic experience. The best Art Deco hotel in the Karoo. 1960's style rooms and a fantastic dining experience in the middle of nowhere. This place is a must-do!
Customers not to be disappointed when arriving, as the exterior has nothing on the quaintness of the interior, especially the cafe/dining area and courtyard. We were pleasantly surprised.
Had a nice stay. Restaurant has a good menu and very good wine list!
Only one major issue this time: there was no water in the town and as we understand it, this had been ongoing during the week of our arrival but we were only informed as we checked in. It's very fortunate that we had our own drinking water, but it was a most unsatisfactory situation.
Cute shop and restaurant.
Would love to have showers in all the rooms.
We slept very comfortably and ate delicious Karoo lamb chops.
It was very nice. We were very happy there for the wedding we attended.
Rooms very comfortable, although the chair cushions, carpets and quilt may need some washing and attention. Dinner made up for that!
Good position for stopping between Cape Town and JHB.
From our arrival to departure there was no water. No back-up water at the establishment, but back-up power with load shedding. No effort from the institution to provide water for toilets, etc.
Everything was clean. The restaurant is very nice and we had a great meal. The accommodation compares very well to the restaurant. We would recommend the restaurant.
Bathrooms small and shower's water pressure very weak and difficult to regulate water, otherwise nice stay.
There were too few staff members on duty for a packed hotel. Went to bed later despite the fact that two of our orders were never carried out after about an hour and a half of waiting.
Had to ask at reception for air conditioner remote. Reluctantly received a WiFi login password. Tried about another 10 for my wife's phone, without success. Buffet dinner works by weight of total plate contents and tends be expensive. Did not bother to stay for breakfast, as staff only arrived around 07:00. Zero back up power during load shedding.
We were met outside by some dodgy people begging for money hiding next to my car. . The accommodation is very quaint and cosy. The pool was welcoming after a long trip. The warm beers were dissapointing both on arrival and at supper. The fridge needs to be turned down. . The burgers for supper were good however they looked a bit short staffed and placing an order took forever. . Wifi access was difficult as we were only allowed 2 tickets per room which allowed only 1 device each. I cannot understand how an establishment in 2023 does not have uncapped wifi throughout the venue available to all guests.
The personnel was friendly. The owner took a nap in the afternoon, and we had to wait for hours for the WiFi code. There was a buffet on Sunday evening, that was okay. We thought it funny that your plate with the food you had taken was put on a scale. There was a lot to choose from.
The water supply is unreliable, first there is no water and then again there is only hot water. The air conditioner in our room made a continuous noise that made it impossible to sleep with it on. The fans in the living room didn't work either.
No water was a big problem. We had to get ready for a wedding and couldn't. Toilet was clogged. Only slept 4 and a half hours and had to spend a lot of money with no water.
On arrival, reception could not find the booking. Set up in room and then found toilet blocked and moved to another room. Food in restaurant was good.
Three beds in normal size room of which 2 were double and one single. Bathroom toilet seat broken. Bath and shower difficult to use, impossible to open taps without getting wet. Bathroom so small that a special small door was inserted. No seat in room. Bedside lamp did not work but was replaced. Leave carpets in hallways that can cause people to fall. Had to carry bags myself no help from staff. Security guard later helped for a tip.
Service was excellent and staff very helpful, they will definitely see us again!
We were on our way back to Gauteng from the West Coast and had a good rest for the next day's journey. Would definitely recommend it.
Lovely and cool. Clean.
What a great experience, great place. Friendly staff who make an effort, top notch food. The accommodation was exceptional.
Conveniently located as an overnight stop between the northern provinces and the Cape.
Excellent place to break the journey between Groot Marico and Cape Town.
Stylish, clean, friendly and with secure parking for guests. And the courtyard is a loop court. We had a wonderful stay.
From the moment we arrived there we felt welcome. We were received kindly and helped quickly. After a long day on the road. Their shop thoroughly enjoyed my wife and of course my pocket a little! The food was some of the best and especially the rump steak that was served to me was definitely a winner, the meat was tender and juicy and well prepared. The courtyard was our 'hangout' where we enjoyed a cup of coffee. We will definitely use your services again.
Maybe an elevator for sick people who can't move well.
The food was also delicious.
It's my third visit to Transkaroo Lodge which already speaks volumes. Nice people, fast service and amazing food. The dressing and music make it an unforgettable visit.
I arrived late and they had measures in place to receive me. They treated me nicely and didn't waste my time. I would suggest them to get Wi-Fi though.
Nice and comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful service and good food. A very nice and pleasant experience.
We were surprised with the old world charm of the historic architecture combined with tasteful decor. The buffet dinner can be compared to a five-star restaurant. Of top quality. Staff were friendly and professional throughout.
The place is stylish and the food is heavenly. Everyone is professional and friendly.
Great stay - recommend Transkaroo Country Lodge!
Very surprised with the lodge, in the middle of a town of almost nothing. Excellent and friendly service. Safe car security. Was only disappointed by the lamb chops with dinner. Didn't choose the buffet with leg of lamb (couldn't see the buffet price on the menu - maybe overlooked). Chops were completely overcooked and almost hard. Not sure why they asked how I wanted it done as chops were so thin they could have flash fried them to get them medium. Quality not great either. Makes one wonder about all the fantastic Karoolam stories. Also serve on the slow side at dinner. Not sure what happens if there are more than 7 people. But otherwise everyone was super friendly. And a clean pool would have been nice.
It was a surprise to discover such a beautiful place in a small town. The dinner we had was real farm food and very tasty.
Beautiful rooms. Very friendly staff. Great swimming in the pool! Restaurant meals are excellent!
Thank you for your friendly service and delicious food. Will stay there again.
We were on our way to the Kgalagadi and this was the perfect place to break our journey. The dinner was outstanding and the service from the staff was great. Our room was comfortable and even though there was load shedding, they had a generator/inverters which kept the lights burning.
Food is excellent.
Beautifully set up guest house, nicely decorated interior, beautiful courtyard and garden. Friendly and accommodating staff - we were offered excellent breakfast and dinner. and as far as drinks are concerned, we were quite grateful to be offered a variety of locally produced gins, unlike many other places. Location on the main road can be a bit noisy with all the heavy trucks going through Britstown - at night it's allright, though.
Transkaroo Country Lodge is a pleasant surprise. Awesome experience, clean rooms, great food, lovely staff. Highly recommend this place.
Very nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
Beautiful overnight stop. The outside area is beautiful and a great place to enjoy something cool after the long drive. Food is delicious. Secure parking for your vehicle. Great service.
Stopped there on the way home. The rooms are now not outstanding, but clean and adequate with aircon. The hotel itself is beautiful and the pool and dining area wonderful and beautiful. We had a real Karoo dinner that was out of the books. Will definitely stay there just for dinner. The staff were very friendly and helpful (and especially Uncle Johnny who looks after your car like his life).
Had a lovely stay, staff was very friendly, thank you.
Beautiful decor, detail and delicious food. Friendly service. Would have liked to have a small fridge for the groceries and meat that we took with us because we stopped here halfway on a long road and were away from home for a long time on vacation.
For transit travelers a very welcome stop over good food great staff and comfortable rooms. Great garden area to relax after a long journey.
Would stay there again anytime.
Secure parking, with a guard. Clean, and looks like photos. Nice food. Very expensive soft drink, drink a milkshake instead.
Very nice dinner that evening. Breakfast was nice.
The reception here was a bit blunt - the lady at the reception was a bit grumpy and curmudgeonly to me. Furthermore, the service was excellent and we ate well and had a good night's rest. Very good option for overnight accommodation. I will again.
Accommodation is very good but the buffet meal feels to me not value for money, it was not explained to us how it works and after we checked in our plates were weighed and the price was R330,00 p/kg, of which the plate's weight is also included.
Taken by surprise by the warm hospitality, cleanliness and friendly, helpful staff. Our room was comfy and met our standard of needs. The self selected food was a typical 'Karoo bordkos' which we have craved for after a week of boring hotel food. Bonus, your car is safely parked in a lock up area. In general we have no complaints of any sort and you will seldom find this standard of quality anywhere else in a small "dorp" like this. Thank you.
Hotel is very nice clean and tidy.
The room is ordinary, at least expect wine glasses too, not just two bags of coffee and tea. Plastic teaspoons are certainly out of place for this price range. Had to ask for the air conditioner remote. The parking is now very secure, but is not easily accessible. Having to ask someone to unlock for you every time and walk 75/100 meters outside in the street to gain access? There is also no provision made for load shedding. Everything was pitch black when we wanted to leave at 06:00. The meal was very nice, but totally overdone and hopelessly overpriced. Payment is by weight and you only find out what it costs after you've finished loading and your plate is weighed. I did not create generously and my plate food was R250.00 (other half R230.00).
The toilet is not secured and leans forward when in use. The basin is also not secured and also moves a bit when you use it for support. The wooden flooring is loose despite being covered by a carpet. Floor panel noisy when one tramps on loose boards.
We were in room 1 which was quite tiny and cramped.
See stars.
I think the lodge needs to update their website as they are not telling the truth ie. free breakfast, however that is not the case.
R175 for 6 x 25ml glasses OBS. Restaurant buffet they weigh your food per plate. One plate was R182 for a normal large meal and another R252. Wow! R55 extra for a small slice of Lemon Meringue. Toilet bowl is loose on floor. Move when you sit down, handle wrongly and tub/shower pipe leaks.
R250 for dinner. Bad is crooked. Toilet is loose.
Place neat. Bad without a fridge, especially if you take meat with you on holiday or fresh produce.
Have slept in better places on Britstown for less money.
Just stay away from restaurant and ridiculous prices in the store for items that should be at least a quarter of the price. Rooms were nice, but no plan for loadshedding and mosquitoes carried us away, definitely not a place I would recommend to others.
I do not have words. Bath/shower has no curtain - floor is soaking wet. Door of the bathroom is so now we had to go sideways and there is no window. And, no, we are not overweight. Cheese and tomato sandwich with chips is R109. The fillet steak (R199) was like rubber. The people were partying in the courtyard and were so drunk and noisy that no one could sleep. Landlady paid no heed to it. No provision for power during loadshedding. No remote for the aircon. We were parked and could not drive as planned. Proprietor feels feathers as she is in the process of selling the hotel. Driving past is all the advice I have.
Everything one needs. Nice overnight stop. Will definitely stay again in the future. Food (buffet) is of excellent quality.
Good service, clean, comfortable rooms.
Will definitely spend the night there again on our way back.
Rooms are neat and clean. Tasty buffet dinner is served in the evening. Friendly and helpful staff.
A real gem. The rooms and bathrooms are spotless, the food is delicious and the tranquility is balm for the soul after a long day on the road. The courtyard is truly something to behold at night!
Lovely, clean overnight accommodation, friendly service. The town did not have water the morning of our departure, would suggest owner purchase JoJo for such cases that guests can still use water. Delicious village meals!
Beautiful place to stay. Staff very friendly and food incredibly tasty. Will stay there again for sure.
Peaceful and atmospheric, what more can one say.
What a delicious, unique experience with very good food in a unique landscape of our country!
Clean, tidy, best food.
Neat, clean hotel rooms with restaurant facilities on site. Staff are friendly and helpful.
We were received by incredible kindness, helpfulness. The restaurant offers a very good buffet and their hospitality was great. Cute shop on site and good wine available.
From our arrival to departure we received excellent service. Food is delicious, bathroom clean, good mattresses. Luckily we slept in one of the back rooms, so heard no noise from trucks.
When you're good, you're good!
Friendly staff, great service, great food, comfortable accommodation, an all round lovely stopover.
Good value for money, food too delicious, good wines to choose from.
The rooms are small but well maintained. The buffet dinner is better than most places we have stayed overnight. Gated off street parking is available.
The owners make an effort to make the lodge comfortable and beautiful. The menu is prepared with attention and we ate well. Only one breakfast dish we chose was very oily, but on the next overnight stay we made a different choice and ate deliciously. The staff know their obligations and are friendly and helpful. Can recommend them with confidence!
Britstown is a dusty depressing town that looks as though it has been forgotten by time. So it was a wonderful surprise to find the Transkaroo Country Lodge to stay in. It was bright and warm, the meals were good, and the staff were lovely. It is the only place for miles around, both for meals and for accommodation. A great overnight stop. A real oasis in a desert!
Food is delicious and staff very friendly and helpful.
We were very impressed with our neat, spacious room and bathroom with a bath and shower. The dinner surprised us it was from the book. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You can see from the whole Lodge that the owner is involved and keeps her hand on everything.
Was very surprised by the neat accommodation. The staff also went out of their way to keep items in a freezer for me. The buffet dinner was delicious!
See stars.
Dinner and breakfast were good. The room is clean and tidy.
Food was delicious. And staff asked all day if they could serve us. Pool was highlight.
The Lodge is really a small oasis in the middle of the Karoo. Only the mosquitoes bothered!
Excellent place to overnight.
Although on the highway, it was like an oasis you step into.
People very friendly and food was delicious.
Very nice and relaxed.
Rooms very neat. Place very nice. Staff very friendly. Dinner and breakfast very good.
One would like to expect a small fridge in the room.
Arrived too late and left too early. Parking was a problem.
Could improve, but not too bad.
Booked for 2 single beds, but got a double bed. For 2 male friends it was very unpleasant. We have arranged in advance that there are 2 beds.
Firstly, there was only coffee for one time use, guesthouses provided as a rule coffee or tea to make two meals. According to the receptionist, breakfast is served from 7 o'clock, but staff do not come on duty until 7 o'clock, which therefore makes it impossible to prepare food and have it ready to serve guests at 7 o'clock. Dinner was excellent.
Reception lady was unfriendly and unhelpful, couldn't get any rest due to room sitting on the road and traffic noise all night and people noise in the street. Food and drinks are exorbitantly expensive. Food is weighed per plate so this means that you pay up to and including R300 and more for a plate of food if you want to eat decently. Service was poor, only got one toilet roll for 4 people. And bedding had stains on it and no pillowcases for some of the pillows. We were stuck parked and couldn't drive earlier, had to wait for the other customers to wake up to be able to move their vehicle. Toilet also had a leak.
We booked through the website. The photos are very misleading. Looking at the photos you expect the best. It's like a lean. First room when we got there (no. 36) was dirty and its door couldn't lock. We report the complaint, are moved to another room (no 35). The room has no cold water, only hot water. The toilet is out of order. The aircon is broken. The two single beds that should have been a double bed are long past their prime. Again we report it, (3 times). It is promised that they will look into it and make a plan around it. Nothing came of it. When I checked out and asked about it again, I was only told it was a crazy weekend. I would not recommend the place to anyone to sleep over.
Receptionist does not greet and asks if she can help. Just want to know if we want to eat. Don't wear a mask. Was there after 2pm and couldn't confirm if the room is ready or not. If we wanted to eat we had to confirm immediately before we even went to the room even if it was from the menu. Apparently, cooks need to know how to stock up. Later, we go to eat and the whole town eats from the menu. So don't understand why we had to confirm on arrival. Air conditioner not working. Report but nothing is done or even apologized. One window could not open at all. Knip is broken. Sink takes 5 min to empty. No one told me that I could park inside. Parked on the street. Happy under room window. Only one glass in a double room. Restaurant staff at least friendly and helpful. However, hotel manager did not want to exchange chips with vegetables and had to pay extra for vegetables even though my wife did not want the chips.
Room not clean. Windows I don't think have been cleaned for months. Aircon set on low by staff and then control removed so unable to adjust during night. Less than half a roll of toilet paper in bathroom. Bar badly stocked, only one brand of beer available if you wanted a cold beer.
Great customer service, tasteful, historic, great staff, great wine, would recommend to any traveler anytime.
Ensure value for money. Thank you.
Food was excellent. Great service, neat and tidy.
Comfortable overnight facility about 800 km from Pretoria. N12 nice road. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice food! Just bring your own mosquito repellent. The courtyard is exotic to sit in with a lap finish!
Hospitality and delicious food make the stopover in a beautiful hotel, halfway between Gauteng and the Cape, another highlight to plan for in the holiday.
CAN PAY ATTENTION TO THEIR FURNITURE, EVERYTHING VERY NEAT AND CLEAN. STAFF IS VERY VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. LELLER TO GET THERE AND YOU ARE RECEIVED SO FRIENDLY,
Rosemary at reception does telephone, reception, camera orientation, serves coffee and drinks in the lounge - excellent. Old building but very well maintained, neat rooms and good dinner and breakfast.
See stars.
Very good service and a warm welcome. Staff very friendly. Will stay there again.
The hotel is beautifully and stylishly appointed. All the best parts of the old have been preserved whilst the establishment has all the 21st century amenities and service. Everything you could want or need under one roof especially for an overnight stay or to explore the area. The staff are efficient, helpful and thinking. Lovely up to date menu and the food is delicious. Good quality interesting goods for sale in coffee shop and a great wine selection. Highly recommended.
Very nice restaurant and nice staff. Like going back in time. Cool courtyard and peaceful atmosphere.
The food is delicious. The staff friendly and the accommodation neat and comfortable.
Many attractions to visit.
On the way to holiday destination.
Our stay was an over night stop on the way to the Pilanesberg from Cape Town. There isn’t much in Britstown, but this hotel is perfect for an over night stay. Clean, staff are friendly and it’s beautiful inside. A little Gem in the Karoo
See rating.
Als was acceptable but Covid-19 regulations are not observed in restaurant.
Very nice and neat, but a few things could be better, e.g. no trash can in room, no aircon remote. Then the food is delicious, but exorbitantly expensive at R300/kg regardless of what you eat.
This is the only hotel crossing the Karoo.
Friendly staff and delicious buffet dinner.
Beautiful old hotel. Friendly staff. Could do with upgrading here and there.
See stars.
The old hotel presents nicely and it was recently upgraded. Unfortunately our bathroom and shower were dirty, the whole room felt dirty. For breakfast I ordered coffee and scones. The coffee took so long, I began to think it was actually helping, and it was cold when it was brought. My scone had a bug baked into it. Transkaroo needs to upgrade their hygiene and cleaning.
We had a great stay at Transkaroo Country Lodge. Room is very comfortable and clean.
Can definitely recommend the hotel. We really enjoyed our visit and the food is excellent.
It's my third time staying at Transkaroo Country Lodge. All services and facilities are excellent. The staff are professional and welcoming. The food is of a very high quality. The buffet in the evening is something I look forward to every time. Cars are safely parked at night in a secure undercover parking next to the lodge.
An overnight stay at the Transkaroo Lodge is always a great treat.
We were warmly welcomed and the service was excellent. Car was safe and the food was delicious. Will definitely recommend it to anyone. Very neat and clean.
Safe and tidy accommodation, friendly service! Can definitely recommend the stay!

The best value for money ever. Troy was the friendliest and an extremely capable waitress. Food from the top shelves, now lick our lips. An absolute must to stay overnight.
We only stayed one night. Arrived late. Had a very friendly reception. It's an old, but characterful and well-kept inn. The food is definitely one of the highlights of the inn.
We stayed in this hotel in Britstown on our journey leg from Upington to Graaff-Reinet. Very friendly staff and the decoration is nice with a comfortable lounge and a spacious restaurant/shop. Room very clean and spacious. Both dinner and breakfast very good. Secure parking, the guard optionally washes your car for a small fee. After a long ride the pool in the garden is the icing on the cake!

Comfortable and a pleasant stay.
It was a wonderful experience and I will not drive by Transkaroo without visiting again. Thank you Daizy for the brilliant service.
Good accommodation, friendly service, good food.
Centrally located for a good night's rest after a day's travel.

Just make sure you know the family rooms are on the second floor. Food and wine are good and people are friendly.

Had to wait a bit (after 2pm) to book in, but staff were very nice and helpful.
We only stayed for the night. The dinner was particularly nice and the room was tidy. Short little upgrade.
The rooms are comfortable and equipped with a centrally controlled air conditioner. Rooms' en-suite bathrooms are adequate. Coffee makes facilities available in the rooms, but unfortunately no mini fridge.
Our bill was wrong ─ the bar didn't keep their share. Everything was paid for on the website, but they didn't have it on account. Travelers have to wake up early and we decided to have breakfast at seven o'clock which is not a problem because the kitchen opens at seven o'clock. The kitchen staff didn't come in until half past ten. So we didn't hit the road until half past eleven.
The place is rather expensive at R870 per person per night. Items on dinner menu are very expensive which forces you to eat the buffet at R200 per person. Which is also to expensive. One can only eat so much. Would rather braai and bring own food.
The owner's attitude after a conversation where there was a complaint about the lack of customer service regarding advance payment was shocking. Everyone was blamed instead of ensuring that the problem at Transkaroo Country Lodge was rectified. Of the 12 orders for food, 10 were incorrect. Finally took the whole group to Smartt Lodge for breakfast. Will, after using the lodge for several years, never return.
Feels like you are in Italy.
Everything was in its place. Service was excellent. Meals were wonderful.
It's a lovely place to rest halfway between destinations.
Nice lodge, good food and friendly and helpful staff.
Been here before and will be back again. A very welcome, comfortable, hospitable oasis in the middle of a long trip.
We really enjoyed our stay in the Lodge. The decor is beautiful and stylish The meals were delicious! Will definitely stay there again!
What an absolutely fantastic experience, so stylish and warm. We loved the staff, breakfast was delicious. I will be back to experience this splendour again.
Great for a sleepover. Perfectly in the middle.
We spent the night at Transkaroo as a family with 5 members. The pool was a winner, because it was very hot. The service is pleasant and friendly. I had turtles for dinner and they were the best I have ever eaten! I would definitely recommend the hotel and restaurant.
Comfortable stopover on a long trip. Very accommodating staff, clean and very good food.
Food was excellent.
Nice, redone rooms. Air conditioning nice and warm. Delicious buffet dinner. Very friendly service.
It is well situated between Cape Town and Gauteng. Staff were efficient.
Very good, friendly reception and room very tidy. Dinner was also excellent. Very good location for an overnight stay between North West and Cape.
I have never had a bad stay here. Especially the restaurant and the service is a big plus.
It was a wonderful experience. The food was excellent and the service was one for the books. A lovely place to spend time with friends and family and the outside restaurant is nice.
It was very neat. Friendly service.
Nice accommodation and overnight stay.
Peaceful Sleep spray would be handy in room rather than the wall pads and Doom insecticide provided. Fridge in room would be nice too. Restaurant and drinks not too cheap. Can make a takeaway breakfast pack available - ordering from the regular menu doesn't work so well. Cold ham and cheese toasted sandwich not good as road food! Air cooler in room could only be on or off, no adjustments.
The Lodge is conveniently located on the main street. The building is old but well restored, which also gives it a special atmosphere. Everything was neat and clean.
Room was neat and met expectations, but WiFi ineffective and defective TV was a hindrance. In a town without any distraction, good TV package should be considered indispensable.
Excellent customer service, and can top it up at any time. The decor inside is so cute. Really enjoyed it and had a lovely overnight stay with my family.
Well located accommodation for travel from Northern Transvaal to the Cape. Good food and comfortable beds.
Rooms neat and clean. Restaurant and food an absolute highlight!
After a long journey it is wonderful to relax in such a place, good food and friendly service. Thank you very much!
The accommodation was clean and tidy, with friendly staff. There is not much to do, but for the purpose of overnight it is perfect. Secure parking for cars with luggage. I would recommend that the buffet starts earlier in the evening.
A wonderful stay in a special hotel. The ambiance was like in southern Provence in France, the colors, the decorations, full of atmosphere. Good cuisine, pleasant service. Choose a room at the back due to traffic noise. Room and bathroom simple but good. Private parking.
The only criticism I do have against Transkaroo is that their parking is a bit small. If the place gets a little full, vehicles must park on the street. I do have to add that they go out of their way to ensure that the vehicles are safe, and the person on duty for the evening patrols the street regularly. Was a truly pleasant experience and would have quite liked to stay a few nights. For those worried about the N12 passing the lodge, it didn't bother us one bit, and we couldn't hear the road traffic from our room.
The general character of the Lodge is austere and cold. The rooms are clean but in serious need of a modern upgrade to remain competitive. There are few amenities in the rooms - no cupboards, no shelves, only one comfortable chair, ineffectual air conditioner, ancient shower head etc. Service was friendly. Security nonexistent - the gate to the yard housing the cars was wide open with no sign of a guard. Restaurant was very good and food well prepared.
Overall the experience was good. The staff really friendly and helpful.
Very neat and clean even though it is small.
Room, neat and clean. Not impressed with dinner. Does not offer value. No air conditioner remote control available in room (their policy, according to management) with unit set to 20 degrees. Room too cold to sleep so had to turn unit off on a hot night.
We had a nice stay. Relaxed and quickly got into the holiday mode with the Transkaroo Lodge's decor. We will certainly make use of this nice and beautiful place again. People who like wine, will love this place.
We happened upon the Transkaroo Country Lodge on LekkeSlaap by chance and we're so glad that we picked it as our overnight stop. The hotel is beautiful and the service was fantastic. The food was incredible and the rooms were spacious and well-equipped. Will definitely recommend this.
We can only say good things about this little hotel. The room was good, the buffet dinner very good and the staff friendly. Was so good to unwind here after a long day of travelling.
Lovely, safe, clean accommodation. No rooms or bedding smelling of smoke. Delicious meals and very helpful, friendly staff. Would love to stay here again.
We as a family were kindly welcomed and immediately taken to our room. The staff showed us around and offered to help with luggage. I was allowed to park my caravan in front of the hotel and a guard was arranged for the night, as requested on booking. We had a wonderful time at the pool and enjoyed a delicious dinner. The atmosphere was calm and harmonious. I would recommend the stay. Many thanks to the management and staff for the good service and kindness.
We had such a good time. Rooms were just what we needed after our long day on the road. Eat well! Thank you.
What was noteworthy was the hygiene and hospitality. The cozy relaxation area was like manna from heaven after the long road.
We will (and have) recommended friends and family to use the Lodge if they want to stay overnight. It is very neat, friendly service and the food was delicious. The restaurant is ideal after a long day on the road and loves that it has the nicest outdoor seating. It was peaceful with the most beautiful music in the background. The small shop makes the place unique with local products. Thank you very much Transkaroo Country Lodge, you will definitely see us again.
Stay was nice except for the fact that no toilet paper was provided and also the tub/shower as well as sink drains were blocked. Water pressure is also very weak in shower. Food was very tasty but very expensive.
Too expensive for what you get.
The beds were nice, the bathrooms were very small. Large people will have difficulty using the bathroom. The food is very expensive as well as the wine. But the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Travelers should be aware that it is located on the main street and overnight traffic may be troublesome if the particular room has street frontage. The courtyard creates the impression that one is in an old French village with beautiful decor. Delicious meals are offered in the restaurant.
Room small and cramped. Bathroom very cramped. Rooms not soundproof.
Absolutely lovely place with the most delicious food.
The accommodation and meals, as well as drinks were fantastic! The staff are warm, hospitable, helpful and very friendly. The meals are fragrant, delicious and carefully prepared. The wine list is outstanding and contains selected wines of the highest quality. "Transkaroo Country Lodge" is a definite recommendation for any traveller! Many thanks to all the staff who treated us like royalty!
The lodge is a hidden gem you just have to experience!
Vreeslike lekker verblyf, kos en geselskap. Skoon en netjiese kamers en goeie diens. Sal verseker weer daar gaan bly.
Our stay was an awesome experience. The management, every staff member were so professional, but still so friendly! The room was clean and neat. The food devine. We give them 100%.
A jewel in the Karoo. The owner made us feel at home and the staff very friendly. Rooms neat and clean. Will definitely stay there again.
Every need was taken care of and nothing was lacking.
The accommodation and dinner were top notch. The service the next morning at breakfast was pathetic. We waited 45 minutes for our food.
Already recommended to family and they also stayed over.
Nice visit and delicious food with prompt and friendly service. Thank you very much.
Transkaroo offers an oasis in the Karoo. The swimming pool and good air-conditioning was so welcome in the heat. The only negative aspect is that there wasn't any proper parking. We had to park on the street.
Our stay at TCL was lovely, comfortable, beautiful and tidy! Safe parking and great food! I would recommend it to anyone!
We were pleasantly surprised by the ambience of the lodge - in the middle of the Karoo. The courtyard and the beautiful music were especially lovely. The facilities were adequate and the security excellent. We were particularly impressed by the staff, always up to speed. And then the delicious dinner and breakfast were top notch. Thank you very much. We will visit again.
Water mix problem with the hand shower in our room. Too hot, too cold, no in-between setting. But even the hand shower didn't spoil the nice accommodation.
After a long day's journey on the dirt roads of the Moordenaars Karoo, the Transkaroo Country Lodge was a welcome escape! Good food and friendly service enriched the experience! Just a pity there was no ice!
Very neat. Top notch dinner. Will definitely go there again.
We enjoyed the experience and would surely stay there again. Thank you.
Neat and tidy, right on the main road, safe covered parking, lazy atmosphere.
We had a great time relaxing and hanging out in the courtyard and the food was delicious. The rooms could have been cleaner and the decor is very dated.
Expensive restaurant.
Decor is very stylishly done. Delicious meals. Location is not very attractive.
I was not impressed with the lodge. We drove 740 km from Alberton in the morning and were tired. Got there at 2:30 pm and there was no one to carry bags in. No one at reception. We found people in restaurant. The room was very dark. Lots of old furniture. Everything was tired. There was no welcome soft drink and the lady was quite shocked when I asked if breakfast was included. There is nothing included I feel R850 per night is a bit high. We paid R790 in a 3-star establishment with breakfast in Knysna, for a room overlooking the sea. I can see why there were 2 couples in lodge with us. I will not stay there again.
Rooms below average, meals and dining area average.
The air conditioning in the rooms was very welcome, along with the pool and breathtaking courtyard. The decor is very nice, friendly staff and delicious food! Perfect place to rest after a long day on the road. All that was missing was a fridge-freezer where you can keep your things cold overnight.
We were very surprised to come across this gem of a place. Everything you need in the rooms to make you feel at home.
We have been using Transkaroo Country Lodge as overnight accommodation for employees for about 10 years and look forward to the next 10 years!
I will sleep there every time on the way to Cape and back. I have already recommended it to all our friends. The sleepover was a wonderful experience. It felt like we were in a village in the European countryside. Will definitely make an overnight stay there part of our holidays in the Cape. Dinner was excellent, service good, good wine, beautiful.
Very nice. Thank you LekkeSlaap.
The counter staff are very helpful and make you feel at home. The room is neat and the air conditioner was essential as the summer temperature was very high. The meal in the restaurant was well presented and with good service.
Karoo hospitality at its best. Food and service were great. The staff is very helpful. Our hostess was always available and made you feel as if she was just there for you! The air conditioning in the rooms was the icing on the cake. Will have to stay there again. (Ermelo)
It's a very nice Lodge. The food is really something special. Would definitely recommend Transkaroo. We only slept there one night, but what an experience. The bathroom in the room we slept in was newly redone. Als was very nice clean and tidy. Tops!
I was surprised that a place like this would be in Britstown, a haven in an otherwise not so great town. Great halfway point, great food and great friendly staff.
The rooms were nice and tidy and the buffet meals were delicious. The staff very friendly. We can recommend it!
I would recommend it to travelers. Nice halfway station.
After a full day's driving it was like arriving at a lovely, cool oasis. The room with its air conditioning was stylishly furnished. The French feel that the owners have created with Transkaroo Country Lodge and the courtyard with its French flair together with the delicious food that can be ordered from the Deli, makes one wonder if you should not have booked for another night. The only criticism that can be made is the bathroom in the room, which really detracts from the beauty of the rest. The shower has e.g. a curtain that did not hang down to the ground. Despite this, we will stay here again next year.
See the stars.
Brother and sister-in-law were pleasantly surprised.
Quiet beautiful village to spend the night.
It just took a very long time before we could enter the room. Very good, and was a good experience.
The staff are friendly and helpful.
Shower is just very slippery, can hurt quite a bit if you are not careful. Staff wonderful.
It would be nice if they could include breakfast in the rates and a few more TV channels.
See the stars.
Soft towels, clean bedding and a fantastic restaurant. Although the hotel is old, it has real charisma and good service. It is well priced and conveniently located for a N12 road trip. The kitchen is slow, so order a cappuccino and enjoy the atmosphere - its well worth the wait. (Pack in your mosquito repellent!)
Room was neat and clean. Dinner was deliciously prepared.
Reception staff could only be more friendly, because otherwise it is a very nice place.
Transkaroo is ideal to sleep over for one night if you are lightly packed. The parking is a bit far from the reception to carry luggage back and forth. The decor is very nice and the food good. There is a choice between cheaper and more expensive accommodation - choose a little more expensive instead. At the cheaper accommodation, ablution facilities are shared with other guests and the rooms have no air conditioning, TV or WiFi. It is also located on a very noisy, busy road which means the noise is disturbing if the window is opened. (It doesn't feel very safe either).
Brilliant stay... we stayed on way up to Delareyville and then again a week later on the way down to Klein-Brak; felt like a little bit of Paris in the middle of nowhere... would stay there again on next trip.
What a lovely place to spend the night on the way to the Cape. We really wished we could have stayed longer and considered traveling the same way back to Johannesburg, specifically that we could spend the night again in the Transkaroo Country Lodge! We were treated like "royalty" and nothing was too much trouble for any of the friendly and helpful staff. All very convenient and we can definitely recommend it!
Never drive past here: the hospitality, great accommodation, service and meals are superb. Would definitely recommend it.
We had a very nice stay. The rooms are neatly and stylishly furnished. The service was very good and the food was really delicious. We will definitely stay there again.
The service was excellent, the food was excellent and we had a lovely stay. Love the house cat Kieter!
Would definitely recommend and would stay there again. Service from staff was excellent: friendly, hospitable and professional. Indoor decoration is beautiful!
Clean rooms and bath rooms. Food and service of the highest quality. Safe parking. Lovely hotel. Thank you.
Friendly staff, tidy accommodation with a European feel. Air conditioners were a plus! Service was good and pool helps. Also secure parking for vehicles.
Beautiful clean rooms. Delicious food. Friendly service.
Once again a lovely stay....but really think that breakfast could be included in the price. Would think the bathroom would have had a door to it ... some people like privacy.
Halfway between Cape Town and Johannesburg on the quieter N12 is the most delightful surprise. The room was wonderfully cool and clean, but the best part is the delicious food and atmosphere in the courtyard. The ideal place to sleep!
Kitchen to be recommended! A lovely lodge.
Highly recommended after a long days travel.
Warm welcome with excellent food and service.
The service was great. All the staff were always friendly and helpful. The rooms were neat and the food delicious.
It has been a place of stay for us on our trips to Cape Town and back for years. What makes it special is that improvements can always be seen to further upgrade the (already) good accommodation. I can really recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Good value for your money, clean and tidy.
The atmosphere in the courtyard reminds you of Spain or Italy. The menu is well balanced, the food is well prepared and presented (not cheap, and reasonable value for money) and the wine list is made up of quality wines. The dining room is beautiful, the rooms need a light make over.

The stay was a nice surprise and value for money.
They offer more than you expect. Very tasteful and neat. Service is friendly, food is tasty. The off street parking is a huge bonus. To recommend.
The room was clean. Very good service and thank you for your kindness!

People can make a bit of noise in the corridor when you sleep and bother beggars when you unload bags. Other than that it was a pleasant place.
Very pleasant. Accommodation is good and food is good.
The food was excellent and the atmosphere relaxing!
Accommodation neat and clean on arrival. Friendly and helpful staff. Dinner (buffet) was well prepared and presented. Wonderful Karoo hospitality.
We had driven far and were tired. There was only coffee put out for one drink. The place was pretty clean. Overall it was a good experience.
The entire staff, from reception to management, were very social, yet professional throughout.
It's places like Transkaroo that will keep our small rural towns going.
From the food to the accommodation is amazing. It is a gem hidden in the Northern Cape that was definitely discovered by LekkeSlaap.
Clean, friendly and wonderful food. Lovely atmosphere.
We enjoy the whole atmosphere - excellent meals and competent staff all set in a beautiful, Karoo landscape.
It's a nice place to stay...would recommend. The food is good too!
Lovely location.

We can recommend the Lodge in the summer, but in the winter it is very cold in Britstown and there are no electric blankets on the beds. The air conditioner is used to heat the room, which dries out the air and therefore causes a lot of discomfort. The dinner was indeed very tasty and real peasant food, as was the breakfast. The dining room is special and you can have a look at all the pickled fruits and jams for sale. We bought some of it and it tastes forward.
Staff very pleasant but not well trained. Overall a satisfactory stay and will use for over nighting at again. No response to email sent despite a phone call.

We were pleasantly surprised to find such a beautiful place in Britstown! The courtyard was totally spectacular as it feels like it takes you away to Italy because of its resemblance to a street cafe, complete with grapevines! The backpacker option we took was real value for money and the ablution block has space for more than 2 people at once. Will definitely recommend to everyone.
The food, accommodation, surroundings etc. were all extremely good. We were pleasantly surprised as one never knows what one might find.
All the smiles and friendly faces and service was perfect! It felt like heaven! The jasmine in the air, the building with a festive atmosphere, the excellent food! I can keep going on and on about how fantastic Transkaroo Country Lodge is! Thank you!
Good quality accommodation. Nice experience overall.
For this price one would expect a bit more modern bathroom and beds. Shower over the bath is a bit unsafe. nIt still is worthwhile to stay over for one night on the way to Cape Town - the service, having drinks in the courtyard and dinner is good/excellent. nIt might help if the staff come in 30 mins earlier to prepare for breakfast - some guests want to leave earlier than 08:00.nThe staff are very well trained and very helpful - all credit goes to them! Even the guy looking after the vehicles outside is doing his work very well.
Good cleanliness, customer service and calue for money.
The Trans Karoo country lodge is reasonable as a one night stop. The room was small but beds were comfortable. The bathroom was tiny and rather drab. In short: It is reasonable for a stop over.
