23 guests' feedbackIt was our first time in the Transkei, and it was the best holiday yet. Having miles of beach all to ourselves was great. We could enjoy the wonder every day, without the interference of technology. The most beautiful sunrises and sunsets every day. We were also spoiled with fat cake, pot bread, freshly baked bread, fresh fish and seafood. John also accompanied my husband fishing for 2 days. The 2 hour horse ride was the highlight for me, accompanied by locals, we traveled the beach to Silver bay. The people of the Transkei are just different, they just want to share and smile, and everyone waves when you drive or walk past them. Even the road there is adventure in its own, which we thoroughly enjoyed (just dare it with a 4x4 instead) Thank you Barry and your people, we will definitely come again, and never forget the holiday.

Barry is a great host and his dogs are just as hospitable - taking us on guided walks on the beach every morning and easily accepting my furry baby into their home. With the natural beauty of the coastline and the idyllic setting, it was easy to quickly forget the hustle of city living and embrace the simple pleasures of life. We will definitely visit again!
Cottage is simple but has everything you need. Location is perfect. Hosts are lovely including the very friendly, playful Bulmastive, Max! Amazing walks, swimming beaches, rock pools and fresh seafood. Only downfall. 1 week is not enough!
Being part of the Transkei was a privilege in itself. We slept with the doors open every night and felt safe. The beaches were clean and the fishing was a pleasure. Barry the owner went out of his way to help us. John or "Lucky John" had been our guide for 5 days and he was excellent. We will be back again.
Even though the host is such a nice guy, the pictures are very misleading and outdated. Probably fine for a "rough it up" fishing trip, but not for a family with young children such as ourselves. It was a constant battle to keep our toddler from running through the multiple dog poo landmines.
One can just relax, your animals are welcome and the host has taken care of every need. The tranquility, the natural beauty, the beach that stretches into the distance is all you need to completely clear your head.
We had a wonderful 10 days at Transkei beach cottage. The proximity to the beach is awesome. The sea was so loud that it took a few days to get used to its roar. The cottage itself is very rustic. We were unlucky that it was very windy while we were there and the living area is very exposed. When the wind died down, it was magical.

Very relaxing without digital poisoning. Basic accommodation with all the necessary accessories. Remote with only the sound of the sea in ears. Lots of time for reading, chatting and just being. Roads lack a lot of patience.

The dirt road was a bit of a challenge, but the destination is definitely worth it! We were welcomed by the kindest people, Barry and Maryna. Also surprised with freshly baked vetkoek! The cottage is furnished with everything we needed. Barry and Maryna made us feel so welcome and gave us only the best. The smoked fish and the Cobb chicken dishes were incredible.The most beautiful, unspoiled beaches where you can walk and relax for hours are within walking distance of the unit. We took our two Great Danes along and they enjoyed it so much and made new friends with Odi, Mila, Abbey and Blackie. Barry and Maryna, thank you very much for a fantastic few days and we hope to see you again soon. Next time we will definitely stay longer.

From the time we got there, until we drove off again, we had the most wonderful visit imaginable. The pristine beaches, the beach and sea a few steps from the rondavel and the natural beauty of the landscape were all one overwhelming experience. We walked long distances along the sea with the 4 dogs who keep us company the whole time. With Barry's knowledge of the area, he was able to point us exactly to the lagoon, where we can find nice shells, etc. Barry and Maryna's hospitality made it an unforgettable visit, they make it feel like you are at your own home. We greatly appreciate the privilege of being able to eat and visit with them on our last evening. Being able to stay with Barry and Maryna and Transkei Beach Cottage was the highlight of our holiday. With the excellent directions, you can't go wrong. From the day of booking, you know you are in for a great getaway. Our bakkie has mastered the dirt road well and the slow driving has already brought a decrease in pace after a full week. And when we arrived at our destination, it was a piece of heaven on earth - first the human angels - incredible hosts and as they warned us, now friends. And then the animal friends - dogs, cows, horses - nice! The men had great fishing even if there was a little rain. In the evening there was smoking in the home smoker. We were deliciously treated to clams and oysters and a Cobb chicken dinner. The accommodation in the rondavel is great for socializing and chatting, and we were very impressed that the whole site is "off the grid". It wants to be done. Everything was nice and clean and comfortable. We will definitely be back.
Dirt road was challenging if you don't have 4x4 vehicle, but final destination with hospitality and concern from Barry and Maryna and incredible location makes everything worth it. Cottage is basic but has everything needed. Beach to by Wavecrest hotel to walk (with couple of dogs from owner/neighbor) was fantastic. 2 days was too short and will definitely try to go again.
Barry and Maryna's rondavel is the perfect place to experience the Wild Coast in all its glory. The location is perfect to escape from the world. The coastline is beautiful, the landscape like a fairy tale or a dream, the people friendly, the mussels, oysters, fish are incredibly fresh, cheap, delicious. Barry's knowledge is priceless and goes out of his way to make his guests feel welcome, I won't even be able to mention everything he did for us without writing an essay, it's fat cakes and translations (he is fluent in Xhosa ) and history and directions and always a big smile and a good laugh! We also fell in love with the dogs, each with a lovely individual personality, well disciplined and very friendly. They walk together on the beach and never make a burden of themselves, really special. Book this place, the value for money is fantastic. Incorrigible. Can't wait to go back!

Transkei at its best, from thecows on the beach to the heart welcome from our hosts. Pristine coastline with endless beaches for anglers and swimmers. Typical Transkei accommodation with a gas stove, fridge and geyser. Everythign is practical and neat. We will definitely come back to this stunning place for some more sundowners.
Natural scenery just breathtakingly beautiful. Ocean, beaches, lagoons and the lovely managers, Barry and Maryna, help us on our journey toward healing. This is a place where you can just be yourself and clear your head, a little paradise. Barry and Maryna's hospitality was out of this world. This wasn't a luxurious break away, but a break away for the heart. Their dogs joined us every morning on our walks and knew exactly how to point out the best spots to us. Maryna makes the best coffee in the world and Barry makes the best chicken. He even played music for us on the keyboard! Everything was just so special. There is no electricity, but there is fresh spring water and the people are warm. What a privilege to get back in touch with what's really important!
