Our stay was nice enough. The guest house is located next to another guest house that has better facilities. Not too little. The place is decent, beautiful and tidy. The ladies at reception were friendly, but also pushy to make sure they sell each meal to people. The meal was exactly the problem. We were impressed to receive the menu in advance with the nice welcome message the day before we were expected. We could actually order food. Just a pity that on arrival and time to sit down at the table, the prepared Karoo sheep was so dry that it made us think the food had just been made and left standing from the previous day.

We were welcomed by Monique - 5 stars for Monique in her friendliness, and the fact that she had everything ready for us as we drove in. It took about 1 minute to be signed in and have our keys. The service is outstanding and the rooms are perfect for a weary traveller. If you have to sleep over in Beaufort West it has to be at 17 On Bird Guest House. Over and above perfect.

Relaxed atmosphere, good food.
Everything was very nice and clean with a lovely dinner of curry mutton and mutton shanks. Good communication via WhatsApp as well as a whole menu. Secure parking and space for dogs to stretch their legs. Only negative was that someone honked at the gate in the early hours of the morning and the person who stayed above us got up very loudly and was probably going to open it.

The guest house offers beautiful, comfortable rooms and is really particularly neat and clean! The facilities allow the children and adults to have fun moving around, barbecuing and swimming after a long day on the road! The village actually has a very interesting history and makes for beautiful photos with the beautiful old buildings and houses around the guest house. You may feel a little unsafe just walking around the streets, but inside the property you feel safe and secure. The on-site restaurant is another point of convenience!

On arrival, I was given the wrong room - not the one booked. It was indicated to me that it was already given out and I was given a "back" room. The reception made it out that I was given an alternative room and should be happy about it. I did not take this room and at the end of the day was given an alternative option. The remarks of the reception were in poor taste.
You pay R1000 for a room and on top of that you have to pay extra money for children and dogs after your booking. The room was clean and tidy, but the bedding smelled like cheap detergent and my shower head was clogged. I will not stay there again.

Two concerns: the bunk bed mattress was most uncomfortable. They cleaned under the bed and dropped an item, surprise-surprise it was filthy. Not very healthy.
We ate well and slept peacefully. Everything in its place. The electric blankets were a great bonus.
The one single bed mattress should be replaced. There wasn't enough floor space to open our suitcases and you don't want to put the suitcases on the white bedding either. I think that a rail in a shower is necessary to hold on to if the floor might get slippery due to the soap. The music at breakfast was disturbing.

The food was delicious. All problem was that there were a lot of broken drink bottles and other rubbish in the garden and on the grass. This poses a great danger for small children and babies who crawl if you don't notice the pieces of glass in the grass. Also not cleaned after there were dogs on the grass. The house inside is very unique and neat. Location is also perfect.

A very unpleasant neighbor who clearly does not like the guest house's residents made the start of our holiday unpleasant at 5:30 in the afternoon. We lit a barbecue fire and our 4-year-old granddaughter played outside with her dog and made some noise. Aunt neighbor threw a knot of a vine over the top of the wall and luckily missed our granddaughter. "You are making noise" she said and "you are guests here and not permanent residents like me". We are sorry aunty, but in the future we will play with the grandchild elsewhere and frolic after many hours on the road from Gauteng to the Cape.

There was no fault to be found with the accommodation itself. In the terrible heat we experienced that day -43 degrees - the air conditioning was an oasis. The bed was comfortable and everything was immaculately clean. My only point of criticism is the restaurant's food. It was a huge disappointment. The lamb shank was dry and tasteless. The broth was a gelatinous brown mass that tasted like nothing. However, they apologized. I would nevertheless recommend the accommodation, but not necessarily the restaurant.

The cottage had dust on the bed coming from the ceiling. A lot of trouble with the keys for the doors, as well as no mirror in the bathroom. Also the taps are not properly marked to see where it is hot or cold. It unnecessarily wastes precious water.
We had a wonderful stay. A small problem was the milk in the room fridge. It was frozen and made drinking coffee difficult. Would also appreciate it if there could be sweetener in the tray.

On arrival, our room was beautifully cleaned and recently renovated, no complaints there. The room being close to the pool could be a challenge when latecomers get in and head straight for the pool to cool off, this not being a problem other than the exciting chatter which leaves you waiting for them to clear off so that you can get to sleep. The staff are really awesome, their friendliness come naturally which makes one feel at home. The parking is a breeze. We will definitely recommend this location to friends and family.

The staff is very cordial, although professional. The surroundings and parking are safe and the room, bathroom, dining room very tidy and the food exceptionally good.

We were 3 couples on a motorcycle safari through the Karoo. After a long hot day in the hall, we were welcomed in a green oasis with swimming pool and cold snacks available. We had dinner arranged for a braai - everything was provided and even the braai drum was placed in front of our one room where we requested. The rooms were luxurious and clean and made for a great night's rest, followed by a comprehensive breakfast on time. Really recommendable for any overnight stay in the Karoo. The friendliness of the staff has a lot to do with our experience.

Very friendly reception, beautiful rooms, very good value for money!
We had a very nice stay. The room was comfortable for our family (2 adults and 2 small children), everything we needed was available. We didn't arrive at the guest house until 7 o'clock and our pre-arranged dinner was immediately available and delicious. We highly recommend 17 On Bird.
We stayed in self-catering units across the road from the guesthouse. The cottages are very well furnished, clean and private. The pool is on the main property, and we would have loved to swim, but when we arrived there were upgrades, so it was a bit of a hassle. We did not use the pool at that time. It would have been nice if we knew before the time of the extension.
I would definitely recommend 17 On Bird Guest House. It's very neat and safe. It is located one street behind the main street in Beaufort West. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay there again.

Enjoyed the stay and the leg of lamb we had for dinner was delicious. No. 8 was isolated from the other rooms and we enjoyed the privacy. The guesthouse is in town, the houses are close to each other and the back of the guesthouse has a fence that doesn't do the rest of the house justice. We were very happy with the rest!

17 on Bird Guest House contacted us during the morning of our reservation to inquire as to our ETA and at the same time to offer to serve us dinner should we so desire. They forwarded us the menu and we made our choices and were served delicious food on time in the restaurant.
Really had a good time here. Were well received by the friendly staff and looked after by the in-house waiter - he was also great. Very clean and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this stay to anyone.
It's an oasis in the desert. Cool with a beautiful old gazebo that is green now in the summer but must be something to see in the fall. Real rural cordiality at reception.
Every December we sleep over in Beaufort West on our way to the Cape. We always have a good time and enjoy the hospitality and warm atmosphere of the Karoo town. We would love to go home again in 17 On Bird Guest House. The dinner was delicious and we were able to hang out under the stars and an old Fig tree!

Was impressed with 17 On Bird but unfortunately our bathroom did not have a walk in shower which was very inconvenient for senior citizens to get into the tub to shower.

We spent the night in a beautiful cottage with wooden floors and beautiful old-fashioned furniture. It felt like we were staying in our grandmother's house when we were still children. It made us yearn back to our young days when our hangout was around the kitchen table while grandma busied herself with the cooking pots. The house was clean and everything was neatly arranged. The garden in the backyard was also neatly groomed. We can recommend the place to anyone.

Value for money; conveniently located and nice facilities to use.
We had the privilege of having a cottage separately. Clean, tidy and private. The host was exceptionally friendly and received us generously.
Everything was beautiful, comfortable, convenient, friendly, wonderful.
We were well rested and ready for the long road. Beds very comfortable and everything spotless. Can see security carries a high premium for the owners. Your parking space is practically next to your unit. Feel free to sleep here! Leaks!
They speak Afrikaans and the place is lovely and tidy.
The food is deliciously prepared and effort was made to make us feel at home. Great experience in the middle of the Karoo. Friendly reception. Food tasty prepared. Can recommend for overnight travelers.
The self catering unit was clean and pleasant with tasteful retro decor. It is very spacious as well, perfect spaces for little ones too. Overall, we enjoyed our stop-over. The only set-back is that the unit was accross the road from the main establishment where the pool and parking spaces are. This meant that we had to carry our bags over every time you needed access the car or to go into the main building. Apart from this, I recommend it for those that need privacy and don't have small kids.
Fantastic place and would definitely recommend!
Maybe it's time to replace the old TVs.
