Tuckaway is an owner-run and managed guest house, situated on the well-known Broadlands Stud Farm just outside of Somerset West. The farm is just 6 km from the Gordon's Bay beach and 10 km from the Somerset Mall.
Accommodation is offered in what was the main bedroom which has an en-suite, and is ideal for a couple to enjoy a relaxed holiday, or a single person looking for a place to stay. The suite has its own private entrance through a double cottage-pane door into the garden. The bedroom contains a queen-size bed, bed side tables with lamps, a full en-suite bathroom with a bath, a shower, basin and a toilet.
The suite also includes a flat-screen TV with ShowMax, Netflix, YouTube and Prime Video, surround sound, Wi-Fi internet access, tea- and coffee-making facilities, purified water, a microwave to warm up those take-aways and a bar fridge to keep the beers/cool drinks cold, a remote-controlled ceiling fan, and a wall-panel heater.
There is also a dining-room table for guests to eat a meal brought back with which includes plates, knives, forks and spoons also provided. Take-aways can be brought back and heated in the microwave. The table can also be used to work from or to use your laptop.
Should you wish, there are many very nice restaurants close by that offer all meals so you have choices.
With the large bay window and double door, guests have beautiful views onto the garden which is populated with many indigenous trees. There is a wooden bench on the patio which is just outside the bedroom door where guests can sit and enjoy. Safe parking is available at no charge.
The Helderberg has many interesting attractions for the visitor to go experience. The Somerset Mall offers 204 stores and everything it takes to give families a safe, fun-filled entertainment environment, alongside a superior browsing and shopping experience.

A peaceful place with lovely scenery and great customer service.
The room was spotlessly clean and smelled fresh. The bedding was fresh and clean, and there was air-conditioning and a TV with DSTV. The parking was excellent, and the host was attentive to our needs. This is a stopover that we can highly recommend.
Slept well. Place was nice and clean. There are just no facilities to wash dirty dishes.

Stayed in room for 6 days after surgery - foot in the air. With the outside door opening onto the garden, never really felt cooped up. Sarah and Gary really go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Even got pancakes as a surprise one day. Was delicious and hoped there would be more. Will visit again one day for more pancakes!
We had the best stay there. We were there for our honeymoon. Sarah is such a lovely lady and goes out of her way to make sure we were okay. I will recommend this place to anyone who loves nature and to have a break from their busy lives. We loved every minute of it.

Tuckaway is in a peaceful setting. However, the path there is disappointing - dilapidated buildings, stables. The stay was pleasant (except of course for Eskom's antics).

Although the host was very friendly when we returned the key, we were not received kindly by the hostess. Maybe she just needs some guidance in this regard. She seems really unfit and made us feel in her way. It was really unpleasant. The address and "pin location" that the hostess sent us landed us in a forest on the opposite side of the road. The eventual road to the location was very bad and took us through scrap metal and vehicle wrecks. But the room was reasonable for the cost and we really rested well in a very comfortable bed.

One night is definitely too little. It's the perfect getaway from the world. It feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. Very nice housemates.

It's a very good place to relax and connect with nature.
It was definitely more than value for money. It's the small things that particularly struck me, plasters, cotton wool, earbuds etc. in the bathroom, enough power points by the bed, mirror for hair, everything was so well laid out. Would definitely recommend. People should be aware that this is a farm road and very low vehicles should drive with extreme caution.

The environment is very beautiful. The only negative point is the dirt road to the cottage, but with a large vehicle this is not a problem.
It is near Somerset West, a few minutes away on the N2 to all the shops, malls and restaurants.
Really good value for money.
The location is not very central if you want to be close to the CBD, but as we were busy visiting family in Somerset West it was perfect. The unit has a spacious bedroom and bathroom and is very reasonably priced. It is located on a property close to other houses, so it is not totally private, but you have your own entrance to the unit, which gives you enough privacy during your stay. The property itself is lovely and you can take a walk around the garden or the dam during your stay or with enough planning in advance you could book a horse-riding lesson.
The owner Sarah was very friendly. We could check in earlier. Will definitely recommend.
We had a really lovely 2 night stay at Tuckaway. Nice and quiet with beautiful views. We had a nice walk around the farm at the horse stables and camps. The dirt road is a bit bad, but you won't find it any other way if you stay on a farm. Many thanks to the owners, they were very friendly and helpful.
Happy days in the silence with singing birds, horses and green grass with coffee and or wine on the veranda is a plus! Just remember to be prepared for farm road.

The view was lovely and it was a relatively comfortable sleep. These are the following issues faced while staying at Tuckaway. We were not made aware that we need to drive on a dirt road to get to the place which had large potholes which could damage smaller cars if not driven carefully. If we were made aware of this we wouldn't have considered this place to stay. The toilet was leaking which we were unaware of upon arrival which almost resulted in my spouse slipping. This only got fixed much later in the day after our arrival which also left a unpleasant smell in the room and bathroom. While sleeping at night there is a annoying ticking sound coming from the fridge which can keep you from resting if you're a light sleeper. From the room you can hear footsteps, talking, as well as babies crying and other sounds coming from the rest of the house due to owners living in the house which we were fine with, but it's worth mentioning. We also feel like it could do with more privacy. The owner of the room should phone or send a message before coming to the room to check on tenants and not just come as they please. Even one time is not acceptable for people who really value their privacy. Even with all the problems it was somewhat a decent stay, the view was the most enjoyable part of the stay. I wouldn't recommended this to any of my friends at all, but if these problems can be sorted it will be nothing short of satisfactory. Thank you.
The last bit of dirt road is more holes than road.
My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We decided to opt for an option away from the city to reload for the new year. We both left feeling refreshed and rested. The space was neat, the bed was extremely comfortable, it was always quiet and the hosts were lovely. We will be going back soon.
Wonderful welcome from a friendly couple. A neat cottage room with large en-suite bathroom. Backup plans for load shedding which was great. Quiet, rustic farm setting which is lovely if you're tired of the hustle and bustle of city life.

Dit is 'n juweel, ons was mal oor dit en dit het ons harte gesteel en ons sal definitief terug wees, veral omdat Sarah so lekker kook en die couple so goed is en natuurlik is met gasvryheid. Super netjies, cozy (maar daar is meer as genoeg plek vir twee) en die ligging is pragtig - om nie te praat van die uitstekende waarde vir geld nie! Tuckaway is a great place to stay whether on business or pleasure. The owners Gary and Sarah make you feel so welcome. The accommodation is fantastic value for money and there is an option to have your breakfast and dinner prepared for you at a very reasonable cost. Would not hesitate to recommend.
The reception was very good and the accommodation was definitely value for money. There was even a treat the afternoon from Sarah - delicious pancakes. The breakfast was incredibly nice. It is as the name suggests: Tuckaway with an incredible view over Sir Lowry's Pass. The accommodation is recommendable if you like a peaceful and clean environment. The hosts are wonderful people who goes the extra mile. Comfortable beds and stylish, wardrobe with enough space, lovely tiles, well equipped place, linen, and more. There is nothing to complain about. DStv Premium, surround sound, WiFi, nice mattress, everything spotless and lots of extras. There is no burglar alarm, but we felt safe. My GPS couldn't locate the guest house, but Sarah sent a short video that made everything very easy.
