Thoroughly enjoyed this charming Victorian era cottage. Amanda is a friendly host and made check-in a breeze. The beds had quality linen and the electric blankets were a welcome touch. The cottage is close to the town centre, planetarium and restaurants.

The unit/house was large, clean and tidy and had everything to make your stay comfortable. You simply park next to the house, then packing and unpacking is easy. The single beds in the rooms had quality white linen. There were also electric blankets. The bathroom has a bath and shower, and large bath towels are provided. There was also hand soap at the sink. The kitchen has a nice big table and chairs where you could eat and hang out, a fridge and microwave oven. A small stove is in the kitchen in which you could make a fire to make the kitchen a little warmer. Wood was provided to start your fire. Communication was very bad. The problem was that the village in Sutherland had a lot of snow and was without power for several days. When I made my reservation on Monday evening 9 July 2024 at 19h42 and got confirmation at 20h04 that my accommodation was confirmed, no one told me or let me know that there was no power and no mobile phone reception. We could have planned better because we couldn't use the microwave, WiFi, electric blankets. There was emergency lighting, but the batteries were dead, so sitting in the dark and cold was very unpleasant. It was bitterly cold that evening and the wind was gale-force. Communication was really a big problem because I didn't get the code for the box where the key is stored. When we got to the unit at 16h00, there was no key either. We had to drive back to the Witch's house where we were kindly received and taken to the unit. At 17h51 I let them know via WhatsApp that we are in the unit. The person replied thanks back at 17h57. We had cell phone reception the whole time. I also sent a bunch of photos to my friends via WhatsApp. If we had known about the power outage, we could have planned better. We could have brought our power station, brought other food to make, brought our WiFi dongle, extra blankets etc. to make our stay more pleasant. We really enjoyed the snow and it was a nice experience with all the snow around us. This is probably our 4th or 5th time at the Witch's house. We always have a good time and are always received kindly. We can recommend Tula Karoo and would stay there again.
