Turaco Farm Cottage
Turaco Farm Cottage
Turaco Farm Cottage
-
The cottage comprises with a lovely fully equipped kitchen, large lounge with a wood-burning fireplace, master bedroom with a Queen-sized bed and lots of cupboard space, bath and separate toilet. The lounge has breathtaking views overlooking Ebenezer Dam, with a big stone fireplace that forms the heart of this 50 year old cottage.
We are able to add bunk beds into the lounge to accommodate kids if required. The cottage is located next to the main farm house where the owners stay but it has its own private parking and private deck with views over Ebenezer Dam.
We have lovely pine forests, natural gullies and streams, swimming and picnicking on Stanford Lake and Ebenzer Dam, a beautiful waterfall and many other places to explore. During blueberry season guests are able to book a tour of the blueberry orchards and pick their very own fresh, organic blueberries.
The farm also has lots of wildlife and beautiful birds to encounter including duiker, side-striped jackal, genets, mongoose, turacos, fish eagles, barn owls, and many more.

68 guests' feedbackThe cottage is a quaint and spacious place with all the facilities required for a quiet stay. The kitchen is well equipped and the lounge is spacious with a fireplace. The only two drawbacks were that the bathtub with a hand shower tends to leave the bathroom floor wet (no shower curtain) and the fireplace, whilst large and very welcome in the cold, smokes up the entire cottage, especially the area with the double bed!
Great, very beautiful and peaceful.
Lovely accommodation on a beautiful farm. September was the perfect time to visit with cherry blossoms and azaleas in a beautiful display of colour. The house was perfect for our family, equipped with everything we needed, quiet and safe. Well located. We will definitely visit again.
Beautiful scenery, lovely friendly host. I locked my key in the car and the whole family assisted me in getting a locksmith, even the managers from the restaurant, which is also on the property.
Jon was a friendly, welcoming and kind host. The cottage overlooks beautiful views of Magoebaskloof and is a definite must-stay for anyone looking for accommodation that has mountain biking trails, walking routes, and a restaurant on the premises with the most delicious blueberry delicacies!
Very comfortable accommodation, lots of interesting books and board games.
Surrounded by peace!
The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay. I had not realised it was so close to the main house, but in general this was not a problem. There is a lovely cafe and farm shop on the property, which I recommend. The property has a large number of outdoor activities - swimming, hiking, biking, birding. It was a lovely location to stay. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.
We had a lovely (although fleeting) stay. We came to swim the Ebenezer Mile and needed an easy-to-access place to spend one night. This venue was ideal as it is close to the main road, central to the area, and no 4x4 needed. It would be a great place to spend a longer time. We would have enjoyed doing more open water swimming in the lake and dam, and visiting all the lovely Magoebaskloof attractions.
Had everything we needed. Comfortable and the indoor fireplace was amazing. The wood they provide is also really nice and burns easily.
We needed a quiet weekend getaway in the winter and got it. The fireplace was equipped with wood, the bed comfortable and warm, and the garden and farm around it were beautiful. We also saw a Knysna Loerie from the porch! The morning fog in the patch of forest in front of the cottage was beautiful. The dirt road was short and a sedan could easily drive on it. We walked far and were able to fish without any disturbances - nice and quiet with a mountain biker every now and then on the walking/mountain bike trails around the farm and Broederstroom. The main road (R71) can be heard in the distance, but it's not extremely loud. The coffee shop which is on the farm and is also open to the public was also pleasant to visit - dog friendly with very nice breakfast, cheesecake and friendly service. If you are looking for luxury, this cottage may not be for you. The kitchen is only basically equipped (including cutlery) and the wooden deck is tired from the constant high humidity. There is only a bath, no shower. There is a four plate gas stove that is lit with matches and the oven was a challenge. However, there is a good microwave and fridge. The main house is right next to the cottage, but it was mostly quiet. The resident dogs were not too enthusiastic when they spotted our dog, but kept their distance and we were happy to be able to bring him along. Overall it was a very pleasant experience because it's a nice environment with a lot to do, and also nothing, if you need peace.
Very nice and peaceful.
Perfect getaway spot.
The stay was very pleasant with fantastic views of the mountain side and Ebenezer Dam. The cottage had everything that one requires and would book in again anytime.
A lovely place. The owner's dogs came to greet us upon our arrival, but did not bother us again and we really enjoyed being able to walk undisturbed on the farm with our puppies. The coffee shop within walking distance is a big plus and the staff very welcoming and friendly. Definitely one of my favorite getaways! I would suggest that lace curtains should be hung in the bedroom to create privacy, especially since the window is on the main house side and one would prefer not to live with the curtains drawn. I would also have liked an option to be able to take a shower. Although she didn't mind bathing, getting in and out of the tub was difficult because the tub is low and deep, especially for someone who had knee surgery.
We were between houses and stayed at Turaco Cottage for a week. We loved the fact that we could have our dogs with us. We were pretty much left alone, which we liked. If we had any issues, the host was quick to assist. Beautiful views and walks around the farm made our stay even more enjoyable.
Fantastic location and the place is quiet and peaceful. The area has a lot to do and would recommend anytime. With the rain, at least we had a nice weather day to explore the farm.
Turaco is a lovely destination, quiet, peaceful, beautiful!
Beautiful view and comfortable accommodation.
See stars.
Great getaway with a breathtaking view. Waterfall is beautiful and walking distance from the cottage. Very nice surroundings and we could take our Maltese with us.
The cottage needs some paint. The left hand basin faucet was loose. The cottage only has a bath. Would prefer a shower. There were cobwebs on the stones by the fireplace. The surroundings are picturesque and the host friendly.
The location sent via SMS takes you to the incorrect area. The WiFi does not work. The cupboard is infested with dead ants. The bunk beds were not stable, so we could not utilize both; one person ended up sleeping on the couch. One of the pillows and the bedding in the queen-sized bed had spots of blood on it. Only two towels left out for four guests. The house does need a repaint.
The environment is picture perfect and I simply could not find fault with anything. Very nice stay.
The kitchen is well equipped, bedding was comfortable and warm. Power was intermittently off due to loadshedding and probably weather, but a good led light and candles were provided. Please note that no coffee, tea or hairdryer is provided. Stay was comfortable nonetheless due to fireplace, gas stove, and we had no issues with warm water.
Turaco Cottage has a fantastic view over the kloof / Ebenezer Dam and brilliant location in Magoebaskloof. Walking distance (150 m) from restaurant. Can't wait to visit again!
Lovely getaway place. Cottage is well equipped and there is nothing lacking in the kitchen, room, or bathroom. Owner and his dogs gave us a friendly welcome. Beautiful view and lots of routes to walk and drive. Waterfall close to the house was a bonus. Lovely picnic places on the premises.
Relaxed accommodation for family with up to 2 young children. Beautiful gardens, views and walking/biking trail from the houses to the small waterfall and down along the dam.
We were very hospitably welcomed by the owners of the farm and they quickly came to help us if we needed anything. Very good service. And cute puppies that come to greet you in the mornings.
We enjoyed a quiet and peaceful week on the farm. The cottage was well- equipped, just needed a toaster. And offered a stunning view of Ebenezer Dam, offered very comfortable sleep and a cozy fireplace on colder nights. Although the cottage is close to the farm house, it was still private and we barely saw the owners. Staff are friendly and on call, if one needs assistance!
Very pretty! Children enjoyed it immensely. Would do it again anytime.
We didn't have any hot water for the whole weekend.
Had some issues with hot water availability. Stay was too short to give a comprehensive review - we were in and out and attended a wedding so we were there for very short periods of time.
We appreciated the easy access to outdoor recreation opportunities.
Perfect stay for me and my 2 dogs. Owners are helpful and friendly. Service is of the best quality. Definitely value for money.
Will definitely be visiting again.
Out of all the places we’ve stayed in Magoebaskloof, Turaco was the most comfortable, spacious and beautiful. The property is stunning and it's perfect for long walks.
Very peaceful accommodation with a nice view of the mountains and Ebenezer Dam.
Very neat, peaceful and pleasant surroundings. Perfect to break away to if you want to get away from the busy cities. Everyone is friendly and the nature views were indescribable. Would recommend anyone to travel here for a getaway.
Was amazing, just warm, maybe put some fans in.
We go to Turaco when we want to get the city out of our blood, and it has never disappointed. Everything that the Magoebaskloof area has to offer is easily within easy reach, and there is no question of getting bored. That's how you should rest!
If you like a peaceful self-catering break, abundant birdlife, wonderful hikes in pine forests, a view that is second to none, and within easy reach of everything Magoebaskloof has to offer, this is a destination you must- to do list should be.
Nice outlook one way but looked on to main house the other. Clean and well equipped. The bed was very bouncy so every movement was transmitted to your partner. The restaurant on the premises provided an excellent meal.
The cottage is fully equipped, neat, and spacious. The view from the windows and from the patio did not disappoint. Lots of hking options available and within reach. There's lots to do in the area if you like staying active, and this cottage is also nice if you just want to relax at home and enjoy the dam, woods, and birds. Friendly reception and great service from the host. You will definitely see us soon!
Such a pity we couldn't stay longer! My wife and I stayed 4 nights and we left the farm with heavy hearts. Beautiful dam, went cycling every morning - you can cycle on the farm and round the dam. More than enough wood for the fireplace, excellent restaurant on the farm, the owners of the farm and the staff are really friendly. Even "Starbuck" the dog is such a friendly doggie. What an awesome week we can't wait be back.
Was a wonderful weekend. Beautiful place and stunning view.
Enjoyed every moment of my stay. It is in a beautiful and tranquil area which is perfect for a weekend getaway from the city. The warm fireplace and delicious blueberry muffins were the highlights!
Thank you very much for a wonderful weekend.
Turaco is very well located with a nice view, and good service. My only problem is that it is not private, and is located right next to a residence (the farmhouse). Some people like total privacy like me, and I think only they can mention on their page that it is not 100% private.
Very good location. Great trails and close to everything.
We stayed at Turaco while attending a wedding in the area. The location and views of the cottage is superb and I would in all likelihood return. However we missed some of the finer touches that would have made the stay more enjoyable. We arrived late Friday afternoon to a freezing cottage. While there were big logs in the fireplace there was no blitz or newspaper to get the fire going. The gas heater did not have a gas cylinder. While the owners were away the weekend we were there we would be skeptical to book if they were home, as the cottage's bedroom windows and door look out onto their home. This means you would have to keep everything dark and closed up if you wanted privacy in the bedroom. There is also no mirror with enough light to do make up or your hair. It's a minor issue, but if you are here for a wedding and want to look your best, it's important. There is also no shower and the bed's mattress needs replacing as you sink into the middle. We were looking forward to taking a hike on the farm as we read about a waterfall in one of the reviews, but there was no info in the cottage regarding on-farm activities. The cottage has an amazing selection of books and if we were not there for a wedding we would have spent the whole weekend reading! I've mentioned a lot of negatives, but considering the overall feel and location of the cottage, we did have an enjoyable stay and the cottage is quaint, neat and spacious.
If you are looking for a place where it is just you and nature, this place is for you. The view is breathtakingly beautiful, and the flowers all around you welcome you even more. The fresh blueberry juice just tastes like more. You lose yourself when you witness the work of God's hands by walking down to the waterfall. Thank you very much for the experience! We enjoyed being part of such a special place.
It was the ideal weekend with my mother. The cottage is equipped with everything you need. The blueberry pie when we left was a special surprise. We enjoyed every moment. The owners are nice people. They made us feel welcome and at home.
The cottage we stayed in has such old-English charm, from the fireplace to the carefully selected literature offering. It looks out over the dam and we spent the whole evening on the porch watching the stars. We will be back soon!
So much more than the photos show! Romantic. Comfortable. Tidy. Beautiful nature and our two staffies enjoyed it as much as we did! Will definitely go again!
The cottage is neat and clean with a beautiful view. Our host and hostess were friendly and helpful. We had a very nice stay.
Beautiful location and very comfortable cottage. Owners are friendly and very helpful. Cottage very close to the main house. If you bring your pet with you, make sure your four-legged friend gets along well with other dogs, because our two were not happy to make a new friend - despite the fact that the friend was really friendly. There are also no boundary wires. Fortunately, the owners went out of their way to solve the problem and for that we are very grateful. One is also deliciously spoiled with "blueberry muffins"!
We really enjoyed the time. There is a lot of space, the place is spacious. The view is also special. We found the lake and the waterfall very beautiful.
We had a lovely time - the cottage really suited our needs. The views were stunning. Great location for bird watching and lovely to let the dogs run through the pine forests. Hospitality was excellent! Jon and Jean were on the ball and the small extras such as blueberry muffins (at no extra cost) were just wonderful. They even offered to look after our two dogs if we wanted to go into Haenertsburg. We will definitely be going back later in the year.
The cottage is very tidy and is serviced daily. There is a nice place to walk, especially to the top of the waterfall. Nice fishing in the lake. The small stoepie unfortunately has no roof, but there is a beautiful view from there. Will definitely go there again.
Accommodation in Turaco Farm Cottage is recommended. A pleasant cozy place to stay. Inside, the decor is simple, but nice and pleasant. Accessories are complete and in good working order. I would have liked a shower - one that looked down the valley like that. Outside, the porches need a re-do and the cottage itself needs several coats of paint. The first set of stairs directly from the parking space to the house needs expert attention - a stretch of six steps each around 400mm (four hundred millimeters) high is unsightly, creates a hazard and is difficult to climb. As this is a damp and wet climate, paving could be considered for the parking space for the single vehicle that needs to be parked there - it can just give off a muddy mess. Nice stay!
The spectacular view from a well designed, well appointed cottage hits all the right buttons.
Awesome. Beautiful.
See the stars below.
We and our children had a wonderful stay and visited in the extremely neat cottage with the most beautiful gardens. The scenery is breathtaking - and don't forget to contemplate the stars at night! A swim in the waterfall is a MUST!
We had a great time and rested. The bread and jam on arrival was top notch!
See the stars below.
I believe that in the summer it will be even more beautiful with all the lovely Christmas roses and flowers that have suffered from the winter cold. Would recommend it.
