Have a good time and barbecue, with a nice big fire. Received very hospitably. Clear directions given and kept informed about loadshedding. The dirt road is not bad, but if it rains you won't be able to get through the drift. Just with a detour. The silence really made noise!
The cottage was safe and neat with more than enough essentials to get you through your stay. The host was lovely and made sure that we had all the things we needed and helped us get settled in. The environment and scenery around us really helped bring in the relaxing atmosphere of the house. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a place to stay in Leeu-Gamka.

Clean and quiet. Comfy beds and hot shower. Excellent service from host. All necessary amenities. And a little gas burner to make hot water during loadshedding. Also backup lights. Very close to the N1 makes it a good stopover.

The Karoo silence and night sky are incredible. Mari and Oosie really went out of their way to make us feel at home. Many thanks for the help and advice when the river was in flood. We will definitely stay here again! The house is spacious and well equipped. The rooms are very neat and clean. The house has a lovely large veranda with a braai area where we could hang out until late. The children were very excited to be able to explore the area with their bikes.
We stayed over one night on the way from Cape Town to Graaff-Reinet on a five-day motorcycle trip. Mari kept us informed of the level of the Gamka River from two days ahead of time and recommended the alternative route, where Oosie received us and guided us over the neighbour's land. The kindness and hospitality is remarkable. Nothing was too much trouble for Mari and Oosie. The cottage is beautifully situated with amazing sunsets and top notch stargazing. The braai wood was enough and the lamb chops and sausage (extra on request) were delicious. The N1 is far enough not to be disturbing and close enough for accessibility. The place and facilities are all that is needed for a self-catering accommodation and everything is extremely neat and clean. Fresh drinking water is provided because the tap water is slightly brackish - for me the tap water was perfectly drinkable. Definitely on our list of places to stay that we will use again.
The hostess went out of her way to escort us as we had to take a detour due to the rain. The cottage has everything needed and we really enjoyed it!

Uitershoek is really one of the neatest and cleanest places we stayed on our road trip. Mari was very friendly and helpful, and was in contact with us right from the very beginning, right after our booking was confirmed. This is appreciated as we knew exactly what the arrangements were and how to get to the place. It is the ideal stopover from Gauteng to Cape Town. All that is not so pleasant is the scrap yard just next to the cottage. But it's clearly been there for decades and certainly not something that can be changed. We will definitely stay there again.

It is a very clean and tidy well-equipped house in the beautiful Karoo. The hostess knows exactly what is needed for guests to rest well after a long drive. Milk in the fridge, biscuits, cold water in the fridge, matches and flash to start the fire which is already packed. Unbeatable, would definitely stay there again and recommend to friends and family.
