Stunning getaway for city folk, in the mountains with no view of any towns, just beautiful views, baboons and so many birds. Being woken up to the sound of the birds was definitely our favourite part. The road was a bit rocky but that is to be expected as it states it's meant for high-rise vehicles (take this seriously). We got stuck with my poor sedan and the owners helped get her out and showed us an alternative route. The owners are so friendly and welcoming, ready to help. We would recommend this stay for anyone who wants to get away from city life to just relax.
Every time an experience to visit Hemelrand with nature on your doorstep. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need for a short break. So many places to explore amongst the natural vegetation in a safe farm environment.

We stayed in the Gelukstroom cottage for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the cottage with its French flair, solar power and fireplace in the kitchen! Despite the approaching cold, our daughter did venture into the splash pool with her donkey, one night under the stars! Thank you very much for your hospitality, and thank you for your late-night help with our bedroom door lock. We hope that you will share your beautiful farm in the valley between the mountains with many more guests! (Our Kia Seltos struggled a bit with the slippery gravel of the one steep hump, and we wondered if a four-wheel drive vehicle wouldn't be able to do it more easily?).
Wonderful peaceful visit!
Overall, our stay was a very pleasant one. The cottage and the location were much more than what we expected, and we will most definitely visit again, this time together with our adult kids or friends. Just a few things that need attention to make the stay at Uitsig Cottages even more pleasant: 1. Due to the solar system, the fridge does not work at night and runs down, thus making it a challenge to keep fridge items cold. 2. Although the location is advertised as a working farm, there is a facility on the next-door farm that operates for long hours into the night, with machinery causing a disturbing noise.
Unbelievably beautifully decorated, well equipped self-catering farm stay. Hot tub very much enjoyed (would be convenient if there was option to be able to buy wood on farm for braai and hot tub). Nice view, clean fresh air. Go for a nice walk. Definitely recommend.

A remote rustic cottage in beautiful surroundings. There are, however, items that could do with a bit of maintenance, and clean windows would be nice.
We enjoyed our stay, lovely location. The cottage needs a bit of maintenance - broken outdoor light, bedside lamp globe, corkscrew and the pots were quite dirty. The outdoor jacuzzi needed draining and refilling. I think matches should be supplied as not everyone smokes.

Disappointed, self-catering is a bit misleading, as it is more off the grid. Only telephone charging port, not working, oil lamps empty, batteries for lamps flat, knives blunt, fridge/freezer only works occasionally.

This place is really fantastic - the most beautiful views during the day and at night you can see all the stars in the night sky! Would definitely recommend it for a breakaway.
We were delighted to stay in this lovely accommodation. Lovely attention to detail. It is rustic accommodation where one can enjoy magical views of the mountains sitting around a lovely warm firepit and even taking a warm bath in the donkey-heated pool. Very comfy and one has warm beds to look forward to when one heads to bed. We will return, was a wonderful stay.

The Hemelrand cottage sits on the mountain slopes with a beautiful view of the farm pond and orchards. We did have a cold and very wet weekend, but the fire in the kitchen kept the whole house nice and warm. The beds are not my own bed, but we slept very well with good linen and enough extra blankets. We will definitely visit again soon and bring friends too.
If looking for a total getaway, this is it. Bring binoculars and a field guide. Lots of birdlife.

Firewood on honesty sales system would be recommended to prevent having to carry your own, especially for a longer stay. More attention to the cleaning of fridge and bin is recommended. No cell phone reception at the cottage. Other than that we had a very relaxing stay, great views, and tastefully furnished.
Good communication from the hosts. We drove a VW T-Cross and the "warning" of using a higher clearance vehicle was fair. We had no problems driving on these working farm roads. Fantastic views to have your morning coffee. Even the view from the hot tub was great. The starry sky was amazing! You can hear the silence and the brightness of the stars.
Beautiful cottage and surroundings. Unfortunately, the extremely strong winds tainted the whole experience for us, as we could not go outside with the kids to enjoy any of it. Also just be mindful that, with a wood-fired hot tub in winter, and without any cover to keep the heat in (and the dirt out), it is almost impossible to get the water to a temperature warm enough to use.
The property's cleanliness and comfort left a lot to be desired. Would also advise guests to travel in a four wheel drive vehicle. Unfortunate, as it is located in a beautiful spot.

We stayed in Uitsig Cottages' Hemelrand cottage. It was an experience to go home to a home without Eskom power. Everything was just right and would definitely stay there again. A bonus is of course the beautiful view from Hemelrand.

Uizig Cottages' breathtaking view and silence enchanted us. The house is tastefully decorated and everything you need is there. The heated splash pool was definitely a highlight. Although we were there during a very hot weekend, it was still cool inside the cottage. We will definitely go again.

It was very peaceful and private. It was rustic and off-the-grid, so don't expect bells and whistles, but the bedding and towels were good quality and clean and the water was piping hot. It is a good idea to take your own battery light to supplement the solar. It would have been a nice touch if there was firewood available even if one paid for it with an honesty box.

Kitchen cleanliness - around sink area and window cill as well as outside of bin could have done with a good cleaning. Decor pleasant, maybe a bit impractical in places ie sink for washing up, (this maybe the cause of lots of crockery/mugs being cracked and chipped). Was looking forward to using the pool but too full of mosquito larvae and bugs. Otherwise enjoyed stay and will be back.

Very peaceful in nature. You just need to have a van or SUV to drive the road. Everything was there. You only need to take your own food and lots of wood. It was fantastic.

The location, the facilities, the absolutely everything was amazing!
A place to switch off and refuel. Such a lovely little cottage. The owner Narine sent us such a lovely voice note welcoming us (Covid so it's contactless entry). Directions to the place is quite easy (during winter when the roads are wet best to call ahead to enquire about the condition) and the road condition was okay with a car to get to the Hemelrand cottage. Cell phone reception is minimal at Hemelrand. For longer stays the fridge might be an issue depending on the amount of food you take (bar fridge with a small freezer portion). Overall we had a great stay with awesome views, snow covered mountains and a peaceful stay! Only downside was that we could not visit any wine farms during our stay because of the lockdown restrictions in SA.

Our type of place. Here you experience silence and rest for the soul in abundance. As soon as you step in, Gelukstroom takes you back in time, and you won't want to go home soon. Do yourself the favor.
Very simple (solar only), little or no reception, messages don't go through (CellC), but you can call. No WiFi, so no laptops. In its simplicity lies the treasure that is the place. Ladismith is close enough for a quick coffee and shopping. A cute cottage with a swimming pool (which can be heated by a wood stove during the off season). Mountain bikers can pack their gear. There is a 15 km pass (30 there and back) that is used annually for a mountain bike event. Fantastic stay and we feel refreshed.

What an amazing place to visit! It was so difficult to book out! All we wanted was to stay there forever! Amazing host! The cottage is so amazingly decorated and spotlessly clean! Not to mention the beautiful walks on the farm! 10/10 experience from our side and will definitely be back!
Was something special, we really enjoyed the place. We were planning to do a lot of trips around where we are staying, but enjoyed the place so much we just stayed there and had a good rest.
Felt very safe and it is very peaceful among the mountains. Would have liked to use the heated pool but the water was too dirty. Hope to use your accommodation again in the future.
The hosts were incredible, they went the extra mile to get the wood-fired hot tub going for us, but unfortunately it just never got going when we were there and providing your own wood we burnt wood for 5 hours straight and the water just didn't get warm enough to be able to use the tub. It was unfortunate as that was the reason we booked the cottage, but I suppose with winter and a concrete tub it wasn't the best choice, so that was very disappointing. Will go back in warmer weather, it is extremely beautiful and the cottage is absolutely amazing.
At Uitsig Cottages you can recharge your battery. The only negative is the small gas fridge which is not very cold and is not sufficient for a stay longer than 2 days.

We wanted some scenery and tranquility, which is exactly what we got. With the Seweweekspoort just around the corner, we could also enjoy it and did a round trip to Ladismith, through Rouxpoort and also meant Hassiesvlei. Had a very nice time.

We had a great time staying at Gelukstroom. The house has an old world charm with a modern twist. We were able to snuggle under the duvet to keep the winter cold away - the next morning the Swartberge were covered in pure white snow! It was the perfect break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
It would be good to think about providing wood and better directions to the place. The owner must also make it clear that the key must be picked up from her and another pin would also be good to rather send it to the farm's location as the key must be picked up there.

It really is a blissful place to stay - the cottage is well appointed and our hostess allowed us to check out quite late which was a special treat for us. The view and sunrise and sunset are beautiful from up there. We really enjoyed our stay and appreciate all the extra effort that was made for us.

Very nice cottage (inside and outside) with little details that made it lovely ─ warm water bags, nice interior and of course the heated splash pool. Will definitely recommend it! Tips: The freezer space in the fridge is limited, we have a fridge with ice that worked. Also take the right wood, otherwise the splash pool takes a long time to warm up. Leave the hair dryer at home, there are only plugs to charge the phone.

We were in a little house on the edge of the sky - extremely neat and clean with beautiful decor and a stunning view. We sat around the fire and socialized until late in the evening. Even saw a shooting star. Ideal getaway for those looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Beautiful place that provides peace of mind. The big negative was all the insects in the cottage. I know it's in the woods and insects are bound to be in the house and I don't mind a lizard or a bug here and there, but Mr. Baboon spider between the towels and a strange big, yellow bug that wanders around the bathroom every night and just when you want to remove it, it burrows into the wall. These are just two of the many spiders we received this weekend. There was only an empty bottle of Doom to get rid of these insects. I suggest perhaps fumigating the cottage more often before guests enter. Except for the uninvited guests, it was a special weekend.

Wow what a beautiful place and very modern cottage. We loved every moment and will definitely return. Fire pit and Jacuzzi under the stars was our highlight. The deafening silence was just what we needed. Only negative comment please just replace the little gas fridge. Does not work properly and some of our food went off but other than that everything was 100% and cottage well equipped with everything you need.

We wanted to come here again for a long time and were once again impressed with the view over the valley and mountains. It's a nice place, but one gets the impression that the maintenance might be a bit neglected, especially when compared to our experience during our previous visit two years ago.
Beautiful little farm house fully kitted out to have a lovely stay. I would recommend that they get a brighter light in the kitchen as cooking was a bit of a mission supper time.
Our whole family was pleasantly surprised by the natural beauty of the Ladismith area. View Cottages are perfectly located in the valley with a breathtaking view of the mountains, orchards and valley. The cottage itself was beautifully clean with a 'homely' feel with real character, even with a mini splash pool which was well deserved on a 38 degree hot Klein Karoo day. I would advise any couple or couple to put this place on their 'to-see list'. A wonderful stop-over in the Klein Karoo but I believe also a nice place to explore the lively area.
It was a getaway to rest and it is exactly what we did. Just rested and spent time in nature without the noise of people but close enough to buy a couple of things in town. Best value for money and I will definitely return.

Our stay at the Gelukstroom, Uitsig Cottage was spectacular. We came for remote relaxation and got just that. The host, Narine, who we did not meet unfortunately, was extremely attentive through correspondence prior, during and post our stay. Booking, directions and contact was clear and easy. The accommodation was comfortable and clean. Well furnished and looked after with a solar heating system that works well, achieving showers of +- 50 degrees in mid winter. The micro location in the valley landscape made for amazing sun rises and sun sets over the mountains. Incredibly quiet and tranquil with a surprising amount of bird life. The area is breathtakingly beautiful and located in reasonable proximity to amazing walks, hikes and mountain pass drives. A fantastic all round trip which I'll definitely return to one day. FYI: Bring lots of wood. We used about 8 bags min. It's well worth it.

Although we had to get to Gelukstroom with a small car due to vehicle problems, a bit of a challenge, the rest of our stay was incredibly enjoyable. The house is spacious and very tidy. The view of the mountains is beautiful and the silence deafening. We really enjoyed the plunge pool and are only sorry we didn't stay another night longer. I would definitely recommend it!
Being nature lovers we enjoyed the Karoo setting and the quietness of the surrounding mountains and the walks in the veld. The quaint cottages are absolutely stunning and a real treat to stay in with almost an historical farm decor and ambiance. We enjoyed our stay there.

It was the highlight of our holiday. Beautiful sunrise and sunset. Wonderful nightlife experience, owls, bats, crickets. Neat cottage and lovely relaxation in the warm splash pool. Will definitely visit again.
It was an unbeatable two days at Uitsig (Hemelrand). It was a wonderful escape. The countryside, tranquility and beautiful view over the Hoeko Valley is healing and therapeutic.
Gelukstroom is located in a beautiful gorge, but a 4x2 may struggle to get to it after rain. The house is comfortably furnished, is very clean and tidy and you feel right at home there. Beds are wonderfully comfortable, the kitchen nicely equipped, although the sink (an old pot that has been converted) is difficult to use and a regular double sink might be more practical. The small fridge is very small and a family with a lot of food will struggle to get everything in and refreeze ice packs. The little pool with its heating system looks cute, although we didn't use it. We did have some trouble finding the cottage, as the directions and white arrows were unclear, but the helpfulness of the owners and staff on the farm makes it all worth it! We had a wonderful stay and would recommend Uitsig Cottages, and especially Gelukstroom, anytime!
The house Gelukstroom is beautiful and fully equipped. For those who love nature and peace, this is an ideal place. From the house we took beautiful walks. Our hostess Narine made sure we had a good time. We recommend this accommodation and we will definitely return in the future!
The cottage is really very separate. We stayed in Gelukstroom and there was no one in sight. The one mattress was a bit hollow and you easily find yourself in the middle of the bed! Few insects in the house, it was a pleasant surprise.
The unit reminds us of the 50s. Simple but stylish decor. Luxurious down duvets. Cosy. Focus on rest.

This is a beautiful place for a breakaway. Inside and out are done so beautifully with the most beautiful views of the mountains. Would definitely go back there.
I can imagine that Uitsig Cottages could be the perfect "budget-friendly" honeymoon. It's a beautiful house, the decor is so well done. Luxurious beds, secluded in the mountains with a beautiful view, little cell phone signal and no TV to distract you. The nature lover will enjoy it immensely with bird watching, hiking, cycling etc. My honest opinion, it's not entirely ideal for families with small children, there isn't much to keep them busy. If you plan to just sleep over and be out most of the day it will still work. The host was very nice and accommodating. Great value for money! Just keep in mind that the path up is dirt road (we made it with a hatchback) and that the house has solar power where you can only recharge phones.

We had a wonderful stay and even in the stormy wind it was nice. It felt like the roof was going to blow off, the wind was so strong, so I recommend they make the shutters more tight for these winds. Otherwise, it was very safe and private with everything we needed.

Our unit was particularly neat and very well equipped. You can see that a lot of effort has been put into it and it really makes a big difference to the quality and experience of the stay. The unit was also very well equipped, with no shortcomings. Although there is only solar power, the unit is designed in such a way that one hardly notices it at all. Only negative was the road to our unit (Gelukstroom), which was a particularly difficult road. We were 4 adults with a regular vehicle and had a lot of trouble getting over the bumps. I would suggest mentioning that 4x4s are recommended. Other than that, it was a very nice stay and a great weekend!
Stunning place, was definitely worth the money.
We stayed two nights. Cottage was nicely clean, ready for our arrival and did not disappoint. Our hostess stopped by to make sure everything was in order. The hot (swimming) bath was a pleasure (just fire up the heater early in the afternoon).
We really enjoyed the beautiful view and the house! Als was done with so much style and care. A special atmosphere!
Everything about the place is beautiful. There are no words to describe how quiet and peaceful it was there. It's the perfect getaway spot. Pack your books, bike, binoculars and hiking boots. If you drive a flat car, I would recommend first contacting the owners and asking about the road seeing that it is a dirt road. But the drive to the houses is just as beautiful. Would like to stay there with the rest of the family.

We felt at home from the moment we walked in the door....almost like going back in time, when everything had a more peaceful pace. The house and the furniture/equipment are old world, and then there is also a lapa braai outside, as well as an indoor braai. The "welcome basket" was a great surprise as it contained a host of items including fresh rolls, jam, cheese, fruit etc. Thank you very much, Narine! We will definitely come again! PS: As the cottage has two bedrooms and sleeps 5 we just wonder from a practical point of view if one bathroom (which includes the toilet) will be sufficient if there are more than two people staying?
What a lovely place to catch your breath and enjoy the beautiful nature. The hemelrand cottage was super clean and has everything you need to enjoy a weekend or a couple of days away. With an outdoor fire pit overlooking the valley as well as a splash pool for hot days. The cottage is suitable for a couple of friends together or total privacy. The dirt road to town through the farms is great for cyclists or on foot. We will be back.
We consider this the highlight of our short tour from Paternoster to Prince Albert. It has a distinctiveness and atmosphere that struck us from the moment we walked in. We can't wait for our next visit and will take a drive to experience it and the beautiful surroundings again.
Here you are alone among the mountains, but don't think you will remain too primitive. The cottage is particularly tastefully furnished, with a mix of old fashioned and modern decor that has a very appropriate nature theme - right out of a "Home" magazine. Each room has a cozy double bed, which invites you properly for an afternoon nap. The giant bathroom has a.o. a walk-in shower and freestanding bath. The kitchen has a gas stove and bar fridge and indoor grill. Outside is a large built braai area with seating around it, as well as a splash pool that can be heated. So, you can see that you can have a good time here. Just make sure you hit the road with a vehicle that can drive on wild dirt roads - otherwise you'll struggle to get to this piece of paradise!
We had a wonderful stay. The house is beautifully furnished with the most beautiful antiques. Place was nice and clean and everything worked perfectly. Nice and quiet among the fruit orchards. Unfortunately only stayed 2 nights. Will definitely stay there again.

We had a great time. Af a week's hard work in the office is was just what we needed to relax.
You simply have to make a stop at Utisig Cottages. Awesome atmosphere and view over the valley, fruit trees, dam and mountains. All the extras definitely a treat.
It is a tranquil place if you want to break away from everyday life. The place is still very new and must still get some character, but all good things come with time. The drought changes everything at this stage, but I am sure that it will be beautiful in spring when the orchards are covered in blossoms. The place has everything that you need and the basket with delicious bread, jam and rusks were a lovely surprise. I would've liked a little more light in the kitchen, the lamp shade blocks all of the light and I would've left candles and paraffin in the kitchen for guests to use. Maybe more loose carpets for the cold winter nights to make it more cosy, then everything will be perfect.
The owners of this farm care so much about their guests. The littel house is clean and has a good location. Equipped with everything for a nice getaway. I definitely recommend Uitsig Cottages.
A lovely breakaway from the city life to the tranquility of the Karoo. Perfect place to switch off and spend time in nature.
We stayed 4 days in Gelukstroom. The little house has a beautiful view and it is so so quiet, what a treat! The littlehouse is unbelievable, stylishly appointed and everything is top quality. The beds are very comfy and top-notch linen. They treated us with a basket of fresh farm products, cheeses from the region, and a bottle of sparkling wine. Was such a treat to see the sun rise above the ridge while we enjoyed delicious coffee and rusks. The host was very friendly and considerate but she wasn't overbearing. The little house is in the mountains, about 2,2 km from the turn-off. I recommend an SUV or a 4x4 though, the road is quite challenging and I would definitely not recommend a normal sedan. The house is equipped with solar power and gas, nice to get away from your laptop and hairdryer! Can't wait to stay there again.
