See stars.
Lovely! The cottage was beautifully kept, clean and had everything you need for a fantastic stay. The lodge grounds are stunning and peaceful. Will be back!
Umzimkulu River Lodge is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature with its beautiful surroundings and excellent accommodation.
Lynne was an absolute gem, coming to our aid when we required ice, she made sure every day that we were happy and content. The place was in pristine condition and the cleaning ladies were fast and efficient. Will recommend this place with an open heart. Loved the gardens and the wildlife! Hubby even caught trout in the river!
The place is beautiful. The staff was friendly, and the cottage was neat and clean. However, I think that better signage is needed within the lodge itself, as well as better lighting. Also, the crockery/utensils provided within the cottage are minimal, so perhaps a better selection here will be appreciated.
Amazing stay. The only flaw would be that the stairs are very steep. As we were a young couple, this was alright. But some warning should be given, especially for elderly people or couples with small children.
Peaceful and relaxing.
It is peaceful, sereen and a home away from home.
We booked for the weekend of the 24th and 25th of March, because my husband took part in the Berg 100. It was me, my husband and my 2 children. We got there late on Friday afternoon to no power or hot water. I called the owner and asked if they knew about the problem and she said the rain sometimes affects the power. We went out and later came back to no hot water. We then called again, the man was incompetent and asked sarcastically if we wanted our money back and what he should do. When we asked him to come and see, he found out that the geyser had been turned off by someone and that's why there was no hot water. By then it was already 9 o'clock and we should have gone to bed because my husband had to be up early to participate in the races and he needed his sleep because the races started early. Like I said, the place is very nice, but the service you get and the attitude you get is just pathetic. We were just disappointed.
One gets to become one with nature and forget the hustle and bustle of city life, modern technologies and the stress that comes with it. Human contact at the lodge is minimal and sounds and sight of nature could be experienced all day, yet your basic needs are met. Our highlight of this visit would definitely be the river which could be heard throughout the day. It's a perfect place for a Nature lover. Definitely a place I would revisit.
A beautiful place to breakaway.
Peaceful, clean and incredible time to reflect and rejuvenate! Hosts were hospitable and up to making our stay a very pleasant one! What an incredible home away from home. Even in winter, we were warm enough, and slept well. During load shedding we had lights in the cottage and our boys had games to keep them busy in the games room. Thank you for a wonderful stay! We will be back for Mangrove cottage and Giants Cabin! Cant wait to explore the area a bit more! Thank you Stephen and Lynne.
Beautiful views and peaceful surroundings, a nice break from the city. Beautiful river, surroundings and bird life. River sports activities available and pets welcome.
We had a nice stay. All that we need. Food for the soul.
Would recommend the place and even stay there again. Hospitality, nice location, very cosy!
The cutest, most beautiful, small double-storey house with very stylish steps, but what a surprise when you get to the top. It is the most beautiful room with a lovely bath, lovely bed and a beautiful view. A cozy fireplace downstairs with everything you need in the kitchen. We really enjoyed the murmur of the beautiful Mzimkulu River and all the birdsong!
Prior to arrival there was poor communication about where to check in or where we needed to go. On arrival there was nobody to meet us. I had to call to announce that we were there and ask for someone to meet us. The cottage we stayed in is quite run-down and on entering there was quite a smell in the place. There were no instructions about the procedure when leaving. Didn't know if we had to lock the place or what to do with the key. I was annoyed to see that the day after I booked and paid for the unit that the price had dropped.
We were 4 adults staying in the Mangrove unit for the weekend. Beautiful surroundings. Als was clean and tidy.
We specifically looked for a place with a swimming pool, there isn't one at all. Furniture is old and carpets, curtains have not been washed for a long time. Power was out a few times, at least we had candles otherwise we were in the dark.
Every year we take our working staff away to the Berg for a retreat. This year we decided to try out the Umzimkulu River Lodge. In our group there were 24 adults and 10 children. Umzimkulu Lodge was the perfect place for us to land this year. The setting was beautiful, the accommodation was comfortable and the service was top notch. The owners, Stephan and Lynne, did a fabulous job of making us feel at home. They went above and beyond to make sure all our requests were met, and did it with a smile. Their staff was also hard working and trustworthy. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, whether you are a large group or a small family, for some great R&R.
The accommodation is very well placed, with a beautiful garden and a nice view of the river. The old furniture is very nice and the large interior of the room was pleasant and comfortable. Enjoyed a glass of wine in front of the fireplace.
Personally, we feel that there was not enough provision for the cold we experienced. It is a very nice setting and right next to the river but for the price it could use more attention here and there.
Umzimkuli River Lodge is the ideal place if you need to relax while you explore the stunning area. The decor, comfort and neatness of the unit was all top-notch. Stephen and his team went out of their way to accommodate us and to make our stay unforgetable.
Very nice place to sleep over.
Umzikulu River Lodge is a lovely place. Full of pleasure and fun. Enough entertainment for children. Owners are hospitable. Food is delicious.
Beautiful setting and surroundings provided you're staying in the main building and not the cottage. Found a cat inside our apartment (cottage) on arrival that kept coming and going as it pleased finding passage way from ... somewhere?
Truly the best value for money ever. Was really very neat, clean and most pleasant stay ever. They really put a lot of effort into everything, and the friendliest welcome and service we've ever had. Food was very tasty at a good affordable price. It was a wonderful experience to be able to spend our honeymoon there. Definitely going back again.
We had a lovely relaxing weekend. Friendly and good hands on management. The food in the restaurant was outstanding. We look forward to our next visit.
The owners and staff were all very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay at Umzimkulu Rivier Lodge.
I will have to go back again, two nights was too short!
An enjoyable stay despite a booking hitch. On-site staff were very kind and cooperative.
Where to even start? The location is amazing, we could see and hear the river from our cottage! The cottage that we stayed in was beautiful and comfortable. The staff are friendly and very efficient and helpful. The food is well priced and absolutely fantastic! I really had such an awesome time there. I already have told so many people that's where they should arrange their next holiday. Really an unforgettable experience.
The lodge was beatiful. Food was great and staff very helpful. We found it very relaxing.
