This cottage has a sleeping capacity of 4 guests and comprises 2 tastefully furnished bedrooms each with a queen-size bed. They share the use of a modern, well-appointed bathroom, fitted with a shower, basin, and toilet. Linen and towels are provided. There are also two ottoman sleepers available without linen for 2 additional children to sleep on.
The open-plan kitchen is equipped with a fridge-freezer, gas stove, oven, cutlery, crockery, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. It opens up to the lounge furnished with plush seating and a cosy fireplace. The adjacent dining area is the perfect place for guests to enjoy their sit-down dinners.
Through the stacking doors, guests walk out to the expansive veranda with outdoor seating, and braai facilities, overlooking the river. Guests can enjoy a variety of activities which include swimming, fishing, mountain hikes, bird watching, and star gazing, and there are also 2 kayaks available for use on the river. There are a number of hiking trails and mountain biking routes in the immediate vicinity as well as many wine farms, eateries, and farm stalls.

2 guests' feedbackThe cottage is beautifully and neatly furnished and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The surroundings are peaceful and we enjoyed the silence and nature.
We spent a wonderful wintery long weekend at Underhill Cottage. The cottage itself is beautifully decorated and very well equipped. Our host was very helpful, providing detailed directions and check-in information as well as tips on things to do in the area. We enjoyed exploring the farm, Bains Kloof Pass and the surrounding areas. An added bonus is having Monks Gin Distillery within walking distance. We enjoyed a lovely gin tasting and charcuterie board. The staff were so welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable.

House rules
Please take note that this property is entirely off the grid which means the power is generated by solar panels and batteries. It has limited capacity and can run very low in the winter months when there is no sunshine. Please charge phones, laptops, etc during the day and not at night as this will put strain on the batteries.2 single fold-out mattresses are available suitable for children, available without bedding. Guests will need to supply their own.
No hair dryers, heaters, coffee machines, Espresso machines, or other high-wattage electrical devices may be used. These will trip the system.
Please use lights sparingly. Paraffin lamps are under the sink and should be used in the event of a power outage.
Please take note of the septic tank system so please don’t flush anything other than toilet paper down the loo. Any sanitary products, cotton wool, wet wipes etc can be deposited into the bin next to the toilet.
Please keep your furry friends off the furniture and bedding.
Swimming and paddling in the river is done at your own risk. Feel free to use the boats but please return them to the veranda after use. During winter’s rainy months, the river can rise quite rapidly so it’s best to bring all belongings from the river edge back up to the veranda.
