44 guests' feedbackFantastic location, views, comfort, clean and sufficient facilities and space. Everything a family needs for a relaxing breakaway. Enjoyed the challenging fly fishing experience to capture the attention of the elusive trout. Will certainly return to #14. Many thanks to the owners!
Relaxing, great to unwind.
The staff enjoyed it immensely.
Thank you very much, our expectations were exceeded. Stay was fantastic and house is nicely furnished. Dirt road is a bit longer than expected, unfortunately we lost a tire due to stones, road not recommended for normal vehicles in rainy season.
Beautiful location with ample space in both the house and surroundings. Lots to do and lots to see.
The design, layout and mountain view of the unit is great. 4 x double rooms with en-suite bathrooms and enough cupboard space. The kitchen is fully stocked, except for a spatula and maybe some new tongs. The freezer containers have been damaged and need to be replaced. Concerns: A lot of the inside walls have damp damage, which needs to be repaired/repainted. The wooden door (upstairs) does not lock. The front veranda's wooden doors need to be looked at and the right-hand side has no door at all. Not all the lights were working, due to there being no globes on them.
Wonderful stay. Friendly staff. Big unit, well appointed. Lovely establishment. We had a tyre issue and the staff really helped us.
We recently stayed at Unit 14 at Doornkop Fish and Wildlife Reserve and had an enjoyable experience. Pros: Breathtaking views - the view facing the mountain and stream is absolutely amazing. Standing outside, looking up at the mountain while listening to the calming stream, or simply gazing down at the water, was incredibly relaxing. Well-furnished and equipped - the house is really well furnished and equipped. We even had a coffee machine and two places to have a braai, adding to the convenience and comfort of our stay. Spacious bedrooms - the house features four bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom. Two of these rooms face the mountain and stream, offering stunning views, while the other two face the road and trout dam. Cons: Maintenance needed - the primary drawback is that the house does need some maintenance. One outer door is missing, but this wasn't a significant issue as the house remained warm inside. Additionally, it made it more convenient to step outside in the morning to enjoy the mountain view and stream sounds without going through two doors. The house needs a paint job and some waterproofing as the paint has started to bubble and peel off. One room facing the road has a serious bubbling paint problem, which made it less appealing for sleeping. The upstairs area also needs some work, but since we didn't use it, it wasn't a problem. Despite these issues, the house is still quite livable. However, if the waterproofing and paint job aren't addressed soon, it could become unlivable. In its current condition, I would definitely stay there again. Our stay was really fun, and we had everything we needed—except a spatula, which wasn’t a big deal as there were plenty of other utensils to use for cooking eggs. Overall, Unit 14 at Doornkop Fish and Wildlife Reserve provided a pleasant and memorable stay. We hope the necessary maintenance is carried out soon to preserve its charm and comfort for future guests.
We had a good time and it was enough for one night. We are disappointed not to be informed that there is no Vodacom mobile phone network. We feel it is essential. We also couldn't light the gas fires in the rooms at all - it seems that some of the gas bottles had been removed and the gas connections were faulty. A. g. No response, we couldn't call anyone.
It was nice. The scenery is beautiful. The unit needs attention. The legs of the beds are creaky. Temporary supports under the double beds are only at mercy. One patio set doors off completely. We had a big storm and it rained. The winter is going to be a problem. There is no egg spatula in the kitchen. The glasses are insufficient. The dishwasher was a plus, thank you. There were plenty of pots, pans and crockery, thank you. The fishponds are very beautiful to look at and tidy. The fishing licenses are somewhat expensive at R250 per person. If the owner takes care of the above, I will come again. The maintenance has been addressed a few times now. If it gets attention, it's actually a very nice unit.
We are very disappointed in 14 Doornkop. We have now been to Doornkop Estate for the 4th time and have always had nice units. The Estate itself is wonderful and it is incredibly beautiful. This house needs a lot of work. The walls are cracked and dirty, there is clearly a lot of water damage. The kitchen cabinets are falling apart. The cupboard under the sink in the kitchen is moldy and smells rotten, very unhygienic. The porch's one sliding door is completely gone and the other one cannot open. All the wooden doors are damaged, the door upstairs in the loft is simply rotted away. The furniture is dirty, some of the chairs are broken. The fridge is broken on the inside. I would not like to stay in this unit again, and cannot recommend it to anyone else.
It was exactly what we needed away from the busy life that we have.
We enjoyed the stay very much. The unit is properly equipped with everything you could possibly need. The unit needs some restoration, but the exceptional beauty of nature makes up for it!
All facilities are top class. For winter visits, extra blankets may be nice, and ensure there is gas for the heaters. Would definitely return to Unit 14.
The place was very peaceful, we loved everything about the place, amazing views, amazing dams, amazing people. ️️
Comfortable house with nice layout and view. House does need some renovation.
We enjoyed a friend's birthday, the setting was perfect with rolling hills and the sound of the river. The house was big enough and we got all we needed and a nice game of tennis to top it all off. I recommend this to family and friends.
Absolutely beautiful spot in a quiet location. The house is well-equipped and very comfortable. It needs a fair amount of maintenance - we had many leaks during big storms. There is no TV, which we discovered during the Rugby World Cup final weekend, but it wouldn't be a problem otherwise. Each of the 4 rooms has its own bathroom and dressing area - very spacious. We will definitely return. The kids had a ball in the river, and there were horses and game around the house all the time. We did a beautiful walk straight up the mountain and down the river gorge.
Peace of mind. The view was perfect. Service is good. The pools were clean and tidy. The game room was cool and neat.
The house needs minor maintenance, otherwise a very comfortable stay.
The place is beautiful though it needs some renovations. The room's heaters are without gas. We enjoyed our stay despite those hiccups. The place needs to be renovated. My family is very much happy about the outing. We are planning to visit again soon. The unavailability of the swimming pools was discouraging.
Large house with spacious rooms and large windows, which offer a nice view of the nature around you. There is everything one needs for a nice visit with the family. The babbling of the stream right in front of the house creates a very peaceful atmosphere.
We had a great time and relaxed in a very peaceful environment. However, the unit needs maintenance, very urgently. Photo 3 below, the left-hand door is completely gone, only the box is there. The glass of the kitchen door is falling out, there are 2 sticks holding it in place.
Beautiful location, but unfortunately a lot of maintenance is needed inside and outside the house. The porch door has been taken out, and there is also a window out. Some of the other doors cannot open.
The elevated areas in the unit are filthy. There is a window completely missing in the upstairs lounge, it is evident this has been this way for some time. There is rising damp in a number of areas. There are no light bulbs in the chandelier in the dining room. There is no light in the kitchen aside from the cooker hood as the downlighters do not work. There is no hot water in one bathroom. We checked out after a single night.
No, the place is a health and safety risk.
Loadshedding twice or three times in a day, bring your own solar lights. None was available on the property. Kitchen and dining light were not working, a huge inconvenience.
Beautiful location. The river at my doorstep summed it up. The gas heaters/warmers were not working. But otherwise, we had a good stay. The doors need a bit of work.
We really enjoyed our time at Unit 14 Doornkop Fish and Wildlife Reserve. Think the place just needs a little TLC and it will go from good to awesome. Price is good and we had a great stay!
Peaceful place to unwind and rest.
I love this place, felt like a home away from home, definitely will be coming back. Spacious and filled with everything that you need. The staff is friendly and very welcoming.
Everything was just perfect.
Absolutely recommendable. One night only is a waste.
The doors' glass will soon fall out if the wood is not repaired.
Beautiful large home, with 4 bedrooms with 4 bathrooms. Big plus-plus. Have a good rest and relax, a lot of walking. Unfortunately no fish caught. The fireplace in the living room worked wonderfully in the evenings. Deliciously grilled on the indoor grill and enjoyed at the large table. At the braaier's stoep you can see the stream and it's nice to hear the water running all the time. Calming! Too bad the front doors couldn't unlock at all. All the exterior doors need a lot of attention, some don't work at all. The chandeliers and windows must be cleaned. The gas heaters in the bedrooms do not work at all. Seen people have complained about it before. Extra blankets would be welcome, especially since the heaters are not working. The environment is very beautiful, so between the gorges. Think it will be even more beautiful in the summer.
The views of the mountain, the sound of the river below with the cherry on top. The house is huge with everything you need. We loved the fact there is no TV.
Was a very nice weekend to relax and the house is very nicely furnished. We will come back again.
House is very big with 4 bedrooms, very neat, tidy and the area is so in touch with nature.
Very affordable, and big enough for friends and family getaway, they just need to fill the gas because it was freezing and the gas heaters were not working.
It was so peaceful and quiet, was really nice would definitely recommend it.
We enjoyed our time as a family with a mixture of young adults and teenagers. No TV and reception was an issue with the children.
Was lovely although structure needs some TLC and gas fireplaces in rooms were not connected but duvets were lovely warm.
Unit 14 is very nice and spacious with 4 en-suite bedrooms. Very practical layout for an 8 sleeping unit. However, unit needs a lot of maintenance work, especially outside wooden doors and windows as well as upper porch. Some of the wooden doors are badly damaged and will have to be replaced, as some can no longer slide open. Kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. Dishwasher, washing machine, etc. What is also quite strange is the fact that unit 14 is not indicated on the map at all. Nevertheless, we really enjoyed our visit and will definitely go again. Very nice resort with lovely ponds and views.
