100 guests' feedbackHow many times, we will just go back again and again!
Klaas' cottage was not available due to water problems. It was no problem for Santa, she accommodated us at a neighboring farm, Riverstill. Had a great time and everything was fine.
We had a great stay at Up The Creek. If you want to rest and get away from it all, this is the ideal place. The cottage is very comfortable and it was lovely to sit by the river and just listen to the birds and the water. Santa is a hostess thousand. She went out of her way to explain to us the easiest way to the Pilansberg Nature Reserve, where we spent a lovely day.
The accommodation for the price is top quality. It is basic and has everything one needs, minus the luxuries. Santa was courteous, friendly and helpful. A hostess who goes out of her way for her guests.
Beautiful area. The accommodation is simple but adequate and even charming. There was no hot water, but it was extremely hot so it didn't matter.
Peaceful. Beautiful views, lovely birdlife. Lovely, friendly and helpful host.
A lovely nostalgic and unfussy getaway, exactly what we wanted. The hostess was a thousand!
Accommodation is basic but very adequate. In a great setting with great outside entertaining/living spaces.
Facilities are basic. Nice setting. Stoep could be enlarged. Dump old tired furniture.
Had a great time.
Groot Marico as a region already creates a great expectation and Up The Creek was a big reason that it was fulfilled in much more than the expectation. All in an ordinary weekend.
Was lovely as always and Santa is very nice.
What a surprise the little house in the woods is. The hostess in Groot Marico is so interesting, it's a shame we only had one night there.
You are in the heart of nature. Can rest well with the most beautiful natural scenery and sounds. Would recommend to anyone looking to get away from our everyday hustle and bustle.
We had an amazing time at the accommodation. Tubing down the river, braai under the stars. Relaxing in the bush. The accommodation is simple, but perfect for a weekend away.
The cottage is very cozy with its older style of interior decorations. We had a wonderful stay.
The cottage was basic, but clean and comfortable. A wonderfully quiet and private location, in the woods beside the Marico River, with a private pathway down to the river's edge. We swam in the river, watched only by the vervet monkeys in the trees opposite.
See stars.
My daughter and I enjoyed it. The early mornings with the birds and the night sky were brilliant.
Very comfortable accommodation with the necessary amenities. If you want to stay very luxurious this is not for you. Here you feel in and part of nature.
Was very nice, warmly received and very peaceful and quiet at Up The Creek, stars were very beautiful and clear.
I was on my motorbike on my way to Botswana and slept there. All the basic necessities were there.
Abundant bird life. Their calls filled the air all day long, loved that. Awesome star gazing. We were there when it was a new moon. Milky Way was spectacular, clearly visible to the naked eye, don't even need binocs. Saw a few shooting stars. Very special for us urbanites. Very erratic Wi-Fi. If you are desperate there are a few spots with the signal. Some facilities can do with an upgrade. The single bed mattresses, need to be replaced.
The place is ideal for relaxing and spending time with your loved one.

We were hospitably received by Santa, the mampoer tasting was a delightful affair, the book reading by Bosman in the little school took us back to bygone days, what an incredible experience!
Had a great time, will visit there again, beautiful woodland.
Just for driving. Make sure that the stove is switched off, especially since you ask that people only turn the power on/off at the main switch. Just afraid it will burn down.
Santa welcomed us with open arms and was a great hostess. We will go again and again! Als was perfect. If you want to be one with the woodland, Up The Creek is the perfect place. Klaas' Cottage is unique and feels like a fairy tale house in the woods.
Relax and get away from the city.
Basic accommodation on a farm in the woods near Groot Marico. Clean and tidy. Was only disappointed that the beautiful view in the photo was unattainable. Road was impassable there. One expects the view when you book there, but it was just forest around the cottage. (I see the view photo is not one of the ones shown below.)
It's our 2nd time in Klaas' cottage and it was once again very nice.
We just had a big problem with ants, so be prepared.
Very nice surroundings and a nice walk to the river and pond. The facilities are basic but all that is needed. Would suggest that large plates are also provided and better lighting in kitchen.
The tranquility and natural beauty is a pleasure for a person. Unfortunately the roof was leaking and also some of the water pipes and there was no mop or broom to remove the water. Nevertheless, it was good and I will definitely go again if the opportunity arises. The rates are very reasonable.
Was stung by a scorpion and rooms were very dirty.
I assumed it was on a farm with an owner who lives there and the cottages are located nearby. There was no owner to welcome you and give more information about the area and you just felt unsafe there in the middle of nowhere near a major road passing by.

Nice swimming and walking in the river. Very nice area.
Santa is an angel! The people in the town are fantastic, friendly as only country people can be. The cottage was basically 100% what we wanted and you are right in the woods, it was an amazing weekend and we will definitely be going back again!
Rustic, enchanting, a place lost in a time of years past. I loved the decor, the setting and the theme of the rondavel. The setting is amazing, very close to the river and listening to the rushing sounds of water from the deck area is calming to the soul. The river is absolutely beautiful. Huge rocks to sit on under the canopy of trees enjoying the sound of the cold waters covering your feet that are dangling in the water. 1.5 km away there is a breathtakingly beautiful dam with high a stone wall of rock to view. However, I drove down the alternative path to accommodate my pensioner parents. I absolutely loved the "hike" feeling of the place. The place was clean and well equipped. Even included a potjie pot. The braai area was extremely cosy with ample seating of various kinds. I so enjoyed the "kuier" with my family. The small deck overlooking the tree tops was wonderful and I enjoyed stargazing there. The place is far enough out of large towns so that the night sky was very dark and the stars brighter. The sounds of nature was awesome. We viewed squirrels, monkeys, birds, etc. from the rondavel. We enjoyed the mampoer tasting and viewing the living Charles Herman Bosman Museum and learning about its history. Our hostess was simply the best and bent over backwards to ensure that we were comfortable and happy. We felt so safe here, coming from Gauteng. We slept with both doors open so that a lovely cool draft could go through the house. They days were hot, but the evenings were lovely and cool. This place is magical and I just loved it!
Most beautiful old place with everything you need. You won't get closer to nature.
Had a great time. Love the tranquility, the woodland and the atmosphere. Would go back anytime.
The owner does much more than can be expected of any hostess. This place is a hidden gem. This type of scenery is difficult to find these days. The fishing spot is idyllically beautiful and the accommodation is completely comfortable and adequate. We had a great time relaxing and would love to visit again.
Now that's "bosveld TV" at its best! The natural beauty and silence let you completely relax, it's not luxurious at all, no WiFi or "gimmicks", but still as if you're visiting grandma and grandpa on the farm! All the essentials are at your disposal and simply support the local greengrocer, butcher or "mansapteek" (the bottle store) and then there are also convenient cafes, which offer fresh farm milk, bread etc. sell. Wag A Little Restaurant and Pub makes delicious food and you can watch rugby or sport there while taking something cold for the throat. Thank you Aunt Santa, we will do it again!
Was very nice and enjoyed a lot. Very nice place and everything you need for a forest break.
Peaceful, quiet and beautiful surroundings.
Very peaceful and beautiful scenery.
Only the dirt road is somewhat rough.
Neat and clean accommodation in a very quiet environment.
It is definitely a place to visit if you want to get away. Wonderfully quiet and the nature is breathtaking.
We would recommend that arrangements be made by the stairs. We were at the rondavel. Very steep stairs, but there is no place to hold on. I think for safety an arrangement is a must.
Just the right place to rest. Very basic but neat and clean. Definitely going back.
If you like a rustic and quiet environment then Up the Creek is perfect. The houses have everything you need. Beautiful view and no reason not to relax. We enjoyed it terribly. For a city kid, it was a wonderful bushveld experience.
Lovely little place in the heart of Groot Marico. Beautifully beautiful and clean.
Very peaceful, clean, basic, rustic, in nature and affordable. Love the place and would sleep there myself as a single woman, so safe I felt. Nice barbecue places and a place to make a big fire!
The visit here was fantastic. Nature is the highlight of everything here, one's thoughts get lost between the trees and the cliffs. The braai areas were comfortable and equipped. It's just the fans in the rooms that weren't enough and the one fan that was there was broken, the air was barely cool enough that it wasn't too bad. If you wander among the trees by the river, you feel as if you are walking in a fantasy forest.
Very beautiful river.
Minor problems were sorted quickly by the owner. A few folding chairs to take to the river you’ll be nice. A walk up the Groot kloof is recommended.
We haven't relaxed so much in a long time. There is plenty to do in the area, but if you just want to rest and relax, Up the Creek is ideal.
The weir on the river is an attractive setting.
No easy access to the river or dam. Infestation of ticks. Only one fan. No outside rubbish bin for full rubbish bags.

Perfect for nature lovers. No luxuries, but everything needed for self-catering was supplied. If you value privacy, Klaas's Cottage provides just that for a truly relaxing experience. Will visit again.
What an amazing and relaxing place, absolutely stunning scenery and Santa, the host, was nothing but wonderful to us. The peace and quiet you get here is priceless, definitely somewhere you can unwind in nature. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be coming back to fish and hike again!
This is the perfect getaway for the stressed out nature lover needing to recharge the batteries. Talk a lovely walk - or not. Unless you have a 5 month old puppy with you, in which case you will take lots of lovely walks! Read a book, listen to the birds, feel the breeze on your skin. Eat, drink, sleep and feed your soul with silence. The cottage is rustic, as clean as this type of accommodation can be, and equipped with everything you need. Now, if you want more, you are at the wrong place and need to look for more glamorous lodging. We hope to be back soon.
We were so lucky to be able to stay in this piece of heaven. The surroundings are beautiful, quiet and peaceful. I loved the rondavel which gave off an absolute hippie feel. Ideal for someone who wants to get away from the noise and bustle of the city. Very affordable and everything you could need inside. Had a wonderful break.
Facilities are basic but fit with the forest and river. Nice walks and swimming in the river for those who were active. There is deliberately no TV, just the silence and tranquillity.
Not very luxurious, but has everything to meet your needs. Wonderful bushveld experience, the silence was welcome.
At Up the Creek there are no luxuries, only silence, tranquility and nature.
The location is really beautiful, but the bungalow could do with some TLC. It was not the problem of the owner, but the power was off for 80% of our visit, which caused our meat to start going off.
I was disappointed, it was really misleading according to photos on Facebook. Place is really impractical and conservative. Shower incredibly dark corner with a lot of dust all over the place. My girlfriend's allergy was unbearable. Impractical furniture that is redundant. No microwave. Access road very poor and no mention of it in booking. Was an okay weekend, but really absolute basics. Bad ant problem too, getting into any containers or food that isn't kept in the fridge. Lack of mirrors in rooms. At least we no longer live in primitive times.
Romantic and very very relaxing, forces people to forget about technology and spend time with one another than being on the phones or watching TV.
We stayed in the Rondavel for the weekend. It was very comfortable, and lacked nothing. Will go again for sure! Enjoyed the walk along the river too. Our dog was also welcome! Many thanks to Up the Creek!
The place is very sheltered and in a beautiful area. The place is clean and it is quiet.
It was a fantastic experience. The house was pretty clean, but there were no dish towels and a toilet brush was missing. The nature was perfect, the air was clean and the birds were lovely. Just want to say to future visitors: You must go. And thank you Piet for being so kind and very helpful and thank you for coming to see if we are still safe, will definitely come again.
If you want to get away from the city and are not big on luxuries, this is the place for you. The silence and tranquility is breathtaking. Kitchen facilities / equipment need attention.
See stars.
Well maintained, clean and comfortable. Nice walkabouts and birding. Very restful, no traffic or holiday maker's noises and very private. Nice stoep and covered braai. Santa Van Bart thanks for the friendliness, professionalism and going out of you way to make us comfortable. To sum up: lekker bakgat gewees!
Wonderful and awesome.
Had a very friendly reception. The house is very clean, I suggest if you go in the winter but take a heater with you. The directions are completely wrong, so we got a little lost at first, but Santa soon helped us and got us on the right path.
Thank you very much, it was nice.
Relaxing rustic longdawel in the bush, very hot weather but beautiful untouched area! Nice braai area undercover, worth a visit.
We had a wonderful stay, and we could feel that we were away from the crowds and noise of the city. The silence of the forest does wonders for the soul. Even though there were other guests on the farm, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The children caught a nice black bass in the pond, we had a nice picnic and went cycling. Don't expect luxuries. Exactly how we prefer it. Although we never felt unsafe, I still think a little more attention could be paid to security. There are many mountain bike trails in the area, and I suggest that the information center have maps of the trails made and on hand.
We enjoyed it very much. Nice relaxing break with a peaceful environment. Real woodland atmosphere.
A lovely, quiet place, but the linen and curtains are up! Needs to be replaced urgently.
Rondavel is rustic and caters for all needs, the environment is beautiful and peaceful. I would suggest that the route to the dam along the river gets cut away due to all the rain. It has totally overgrown.
Will recommend it. Not luxurious but just what city slicers need. Nature makes up for everything.
We as a family had a great time relaxing. Don't believe the house is for everyone - don't expect anything fancy. Was fantastic taking our 4ft together. Braai area covered, even if it rained, we could still braai.
It was a pleasant surprise, we enjoyed being cut off from our normal life and just enjoyed the peace and quiet in the bush.
It's a real hide away place. Very quiet. The cottage is in the middle of a forest. Away from the city noises. Excellent hot water. It would have been cosy if the cottage was well cleaned and maintained. The extra blankets in the cupboard were smelly, they are due for washing. Couldn't use the bedroom cupboards because of the smell. The couches are a real disaster, can't even sit on them. Could be nice to put some doom in the cottage, lots of insects at night inside the cottage.
Stay not very satisfactory.
Unbearably hot, Klaas's cottage was uncomfortably hot. Took a walk to the river, on the way walked into a swarm of bees and got stung. Disappointing.
I want to say first of all: this weekend was worth more than a week's vacation. The fresh air, the nature, the most beautiful brightest stars. The farm does your heart and soul good. Piece of heaven on earth. The rondavel is fully and beautifully furnished and is very nice and clean. The people are all very friendly and helpful. The owner Oom Piet is very kind and friendly. We want to say thank you for the value for our money. It was nice and we will definitely visit again soon.
See the star-rating.
Really liked the place. Perfect for the "outdoorsy" people, the self-catering unit is nice and private and is a really nice place to relax & be peaceful. It's the perfect getaway from the city.
We enjoyed the place, there was just a weird smell in the main bedroom. It would also be great if they could leave an extra roll of toilet paper in the house. But the place was absolutely stunning and we would definitely recommend it to others. We would also love to visit again. The natural surroundings are breathtaking and very peaceful. We thoroughly enjoyed our break from the city.
