95 guests' feedbackVaalwater Bush Camp's accommodation is an excellent combination of value for money and a comfortable stay. The house was cozy and warmly furnished with everything one could need for an overnight stay or just a nice long stay. The shower alone was a nice luxury, with lovely hot water and space. I would highly recommend it for large family gatherings or getaways - there is space for visiting and relaxing, many more cottages, and is situated on the beautiful lawns for outdoor dining and barbecuing. The hosts were friendly and punctual and provided us with maps for the Baboons and information about roads and facilities on the way. The location is excellent for day trips to beautiful villages and exploring the Baboons. Finally, the nights are pure magic, with stars and frogs!
Great. Enjoyable. Peaceful. Chilled and relaxed. Friendly hosts.
We had a great stay and were warmly received.
It was so nice and peaceful, until the children enjoyed the peace. Kian, our Capuchin child, squinted at the cupboards until he was comfortable and peaceful.
Basic but adequate facilities. A nice Karoo farm experience. The total darkness interspersed with sporadic lightning was mesmerizing. Sheep also came to say hello.
Very peaceful and beautiful. Loved being on a working farm in beautiful surroundings.
The environment is very beautiful. Facilities are very clean and tidy. Hostesses made us feel very welcome. We also received local home baked goods as a welcome. It was a very refreshing and thoughtful gesture. Hostess also through Whatsapp dropped in.
The accommodation is on a working farm and is well maintained and attractive. The ablution blocks are the best I have ever seen, spotless, and classy. The communal braai area is excellent and spotless.
Had a very friendly reception and had a very nice stay for one night. Beds and bedding were very comfortable and neat. Shower had nice hot water. Very quiet with no TV and minimal cell phone reception. Very beautiful scenery with a nice walking route.
The location was beautiful and the host went out of her way to assist us and make sure we had everything we needed.
Everything was perfect! Friendly reception, and clean and comfortable rooms.
Very friendly and helpful hostess. Can even buy wood on the farm and have it delivered to your front door. House is well equipped. Winter/spring evenings are bitterly cold, but extra warm blankets are available.
Criticism: An arrangement with hooks on which clothes can be hung is missing (or something similar).
We would stay here again anytime. The ablution block's water was either very hot, or freezing cold (the gas geyser's flow may need to be checked). The surroundings are picturesque and very peaceful. Thank you very much!
Fantastic break from mainstream accommodation, 20km on dirt road from Baviaanskloof. Firewood available but must be self-sufficient for the rest.
Small negatives were the water in the showers that just wouldn't mix propperly - so we either skorched ourselves with piping hot water or froze from the ice cold water - nothing inbetween. The gas bottle in the kitchen was empty - so we couldn't use the gas stove.
Clean, tidy and friendly service.
Recommended for all following an east to west through Baviaans,.
Very nice stay, very beautiful and would definitely recommend it to anyone.
The cottage was well equipped with lights that stayed on even during load shedding.
We had a lovely stay.
Quiet, safe and peaceful environment. People in winter should be warned that units are very sparsely furnished, with no carpets, warm blankets, or heaters. Photos should be updated. The units are more spacious than photos show. The location and surroundings are also more beautiful. Unfortunately summer bedding is cold in winter, no carpets on floor, makes the unit very cold at night. A little hearty coffee/tea/coffee/sugar/milk and a biscuit in true South African fashion will be appreciated.
See stars.
For the price it's not too bad, at least the room is big, could have a nice barbecue outside on the stoep. At least a big fridge. Nice and quiet there. Only lacks wifi, there is no cell reception. The location was right for us, as we wanted to be close to Baviaanskloof to start the pass early.
Clean and perfect for our purpose of an overnight stay. Showers either very hot or freezing. Bathrooms were spotless. Nice to have a basin in the room. It is quiet and we felt safe.
We had a very nice stay. House was neat and clean. Mirrors in the rooms will help a lot and wood for the fireplace if it's so nice and cold. We will stay there again.
See stars.
We were received very kindly. The rooms are equipped with the basic necessities. The bathrooms are neat. We had a nice stay and had a good time. This is a good place to start when you want to ride the Baviaanskloof.
Pleasant stay and very accommodating.
Ablutions far away. Poor cooking facilities.
Excellent value for money. Ablution was super clean and pretty modern. We were kindly received! Perfect stay if you want to enter the Bavian early in the morning.
People who make the decision to ride Baviaanskloof have already decided that certain facilities will not be available, such as mobile phone reception, restaurants etc. in the gorge. However, dull water exceeded expectations, except that the hot water in the shower is almost non-existent. Whether it can be repaired or improved? Hopefully.
Cleanest bathrooms. Wildlife in the area. Most beautiful stargazing. Hostess friendly, hospitable and very helpful. Thank you for a small oasis in the Karoo.
The hearth in Ons Huisie is fantastic.
Got there late and no hot water in the bathroom, couldn't shower after a long day of travel. Room spacious, nice and all right, but needs some TLC.
Simple clean accommodation, good option if you want to explore the Baviaanskloof and surroundings. Hesmé very friendly and pleasant hostess. Husband and boys lovely and helpful. Ablution blocks very neat and clean. Lovely karoo farm atmosphere. Showers spacious, but some of the shower heads blocked and shower curtain impractical. Stayed in Langhuis with two rooms, ablution block for ladies is far, especially when it rains and very little overhead cover when it rains, which was in our case. Dirt road is drivable, but may be challenging for people with a low sedan vehicle.
Only problem is the condition and the distance of the untarred road to the venue.
Plekkie has a lot of potential that is not being used.
Hesme the hostess is very helpful, we had a great stay. We will stay with them again, neat clean house.
Unfortunately, we only spent one night at Vaalwater Bush Camp while on our way to Stilbaai. We always try to use routes other than the main roads to get to our final destination. So we see places we haven't been before and plan where we would like to spend more time in the future.
Our stay was just a short overnight stay on the way into the Baviaanskloof, but Vaalwater had everything we needed. It was clean and tidy. Esme was friendly and helpful. Only negative was that the shower did not work very well as there was very little water pressure.
The location, and accommodation. We were at home in "Our little house". The dirt road is beautiful, the landscape wonderful, the house with its hearth inside is cosy.. The mountain and farm feel are good for a person. Will definitely stay there again, one night is too little!
The cottage was lovely. Fully equipped with everything you need - even a bottle opener. It is quiet and peaceful and the directions were perfect. Customer service was outstanding and even when we wanted to come in earlier, Hesme accommodated us. We highly recommend it to anyone who is on their way or has just passed through the Baviaanskloof.
Nicely equipped, outdoor barbecue needs some attention.
Ablution very neat, clean and modern.
Our Cottage is very basic with everything needed to be comfortable. The house was nice and clean and there were enough blankets for all of us for the cold nights. The fireplace in the living room is very cozy. We had a wonderful stay.
Very quiet place on the door step of the Baviaanskloof. Thanks to Hesmé who helped us to find a solution for a flat tire in the middle of nowhere.
There is a swimming place, 4x4 route and the worldly place to walk and enjoy the Karoo. Ideal for families who want to be together.
Friendly hosts who provided insight into the area.
Very nice earthy Karoo feeling. Clean and tidy. Maybe pay some attention to the curtains. A little love with the decor in and around the house will attract more guests.
Very comfortable stay.
A value for money stopover directly en route to the sought after Baviaanskloof. Very neat, tidy and comfortable with all the equipment one needs for self-catering, but no tea and coffee caddy, so be sure to bring your own. Our 'Onse Huisie' was right next to the road and for those wanting total peace and quiet I would suggest booking one of the units further away from the road.
Ons het so lekker gebly daar, Esme is die vriendelikste, mees behulpsame person in die kloof. Die badkamers was ongelooflik netjies en skoon. Ek kon nie vir meer waarde vir my geld gevra het nie.
We were a mixed group. Grandma and grandfather were in a camper. Brother, son-in-law and little one was in a chalet, and we, with a little baby, were in a tent. Although it was about 32 km on the gravel road, the road was very well scraped. There is about 6.5 km from the farm, from Willowmore's side to a rough piece, but all the vehicles made it easily. The piece of dirt road makes one feel relaxed and the scenery is breathtaking. The reception was friendly and very helpful and the farm feeling was wonderful. You are also greeted by 3 farm dogs. There are hiking trails and the fitter fate between us has made a very good runway. The chalets are very clean and very practical. The campsite is clean, open and looks up to the hills. We, in our tent, were caught off guard by the dew and condensation by the next morning, but nothing that could not fix enough towels. The ablution blocks are neat and there is sufficient water and pressure for a fresh shower. There was one toilet that didn't work and to get hot water was a little wrestling, assuming it was heated with gas. We will definitely recommend the farm.
This is the 2nd time I spend the night there. The bathrooms are extremely neat. There were no problems in the rooms and they were very nice and clean. If there is one recommendation I can make, it is to soon replace the slats that serve as a canopy to the rooms.
The hostess was particularly helpful and made our short stay as comfortable as possible. When we left, one of my vehicle's tires was flat and she immediately assisted us with pumping it up quickly. Thank you very much Hesme, we will visit again in the future.
Great stay. Beautiful view. Hospitable people.
The house is nicely laid out and everything you need is there. It's clean and tidy. We were able to recharge our batteries. Nature is breathtaking.
What a wonderful experience. Me, my teenage daughter and parents had the front houses and had a great time. Had everything we needed for the 3 night stay. It was incredibly neat and Hesme was friendly and helped with freezing all the barbecue meat. The bar fridge's freezer is very small. There is a lovely pond to swim in. Definitely an experience that my parents and I will never forget. If you want to get away from everything and just relax in the silence of nature, this is the place for you.
Hulle het dit geniet, baie handige bestuur.
Nice and tidy accommodation, easy to find. Friendly, down-to-earth people. Would recommend it.
Everything were clean and tidy. The staff went out of their way to assist as during our three day stay. Well done Vaalwater! We will surely visit again!
Good night before embarking on Bavian. Quiet and peaceful with a fireplace in the cottage. Big tub to soak the tame bodies in. Will use it again.
We arrived at Vaalwater Bushcamp just before sunset and wanted to drive back to town to buy food! The lady from the Bushcamp recommended helping with food (sausage, eggs, bread, milk etc.) she just felt it was already too late to drive all the way back to town. She had been a star!
Very nice stay, just a little far to drive out on a dirt road for one night. Will visit longer next time.
Very nice place. The rural setting where it is located makes it worthwhile.
Very nice and neat. Hostess was very friendly.
The place is well located before you tackle Baviaanskloof. The house was neat and had everything needed. We would have really appreciated and enjoyed a fireplace inside that night, because it was very cold outside. As the sun was not shining that day, there was no hot water, because the solar heating system could not work, but the spotless ablution block was open and available for us to take a lovely hot shower.
See stars.
So calm and peaceful. Nice and cool under trees. Bathrooms are exceptional perfection.
Fully equipped. Clean. Pretty. Hostess very helpful. Dog paradise.
Even though the ablution facilities are not attached to the unit where I stayed (Langhuis), they are certainly the neatest and cleanest I have used in years. You are pleasantly surprised to find this quality so far away from a city. There are up to small, clean washcloths at your disposal in the ablution block. It is also available to the campers. I had a very nice stay in the room. The Langhuis' rooms share a small kitchen with a gas stove and mini fridge. There is also a pool/pond where you can cool off. Regret not booking another night here. Make sure your car has a full spare tire if you want to drive these dirt roads. This can damage your tires.
We have stayed at places which cost a lot less and they had better facilities and better hospitality.
My feeling is that this is very cheap accommodation that is managed with a lot of love, friendly service, clean rooms and ablution, big variety to choose from, camping, just a bedroom with a shared bathroom and kitchen, cottages and one big farm house. Good.
Konferensie was baie leersaam.
Warm welcome upon our arrival! 5 star service - impeccable and tidy facilities. Bathrooms painfully neat and clean. Everything you need.
Accommodation was neat and the staff were very friendly. The only issue was freezing winter's evenings when the solar panels and gas geysers weren't very effective. Not enough hot water and the bathroom is far from the bedrooms. Not ideal in winter.
I just want to thank Vaalwater for the fantastic night we spent. The rooms were very neat and we slept cuddly and warm. There was nice hot water the next morning.
See stars.
We were received kindly and the house was clean and tidy. It was a wonderful karoo experience for us!
Would recommend it anyone travelling to the Southern Cape.
For travelers who like silence and the rugged nature, this is definitely the place to visit. Facilities are clean and everything one needs is there. Indoor barbecue is great in winter.
Thank you very much, it was a very nice and fantastic experience and we will definitely visit Vaalwater Bush Camp again and share our experience with others.
Lovely and quiet. Clean and all basics provided. Water nice and hot. Excellent value for money.
Quiet and clean. Very friendly people.
Clean, neat, comfy and affordable self-catering stay, suitable for a 1 night stay or as a base for 2 days to explore the area. Wine glasses would have been nice.
The facilities were neat and clean. Maybe a few extra trees would just improve the campsite. Very conveniently located, Baviaanskloof can be easily toured the next day.
No hot water, the owner does not come to see if the visitors are comfortable or if there are any problems.
Peaceful and beautiful environment where you can take walks and mountain bike.
There were 6 of us heading to the Baviaanskloof, staying in a three bedroom house (we had a problem with the hot water tap at the bath in the evening, reported it the next day so it shouldn't be a problem again) and 2 stayed in river houses. Although we were a bit early, everything was fine for us, everything was clean and tidy. Is also only a few kilometers from the Bavian.
Very neat basic accommodation with everything you will need. The hostess is very friendly and helpful and the wood is nice and cheap. We will definitely go there again.
Very nice, very neat, road a bit bad for a normal car and a bit far from town, but the place is a very very nice place to stay over!
Firstly, we were the only people at the whole site which is very bad for security. Also, the brochure shows you game which we now gather can only been seen on a drive. When we booked in, although friendly, no information was given, we had to ask about everything. There was no braai grid and when we enquired there was no effort to find us one. We told them we saw one at one of the selfcatering units and could we use that. We wanted to pay the outstanding amount but were told we only needed to pay if we stayed another night. We stayed one night only and then went into the Baviaanskloof and found accommodation somewhere else. We also went to the information centre on Christmas day and the lady was so helpful and informative. Although Vaalwater has very clean and good abultions, looks like they are only interested in large groups.
We booked for 4 people but the cottage was only equipped for 3. There was no form of heating and no hot water in the morning. There are no cooking facilities, only a microwave. We froze! We asked for 3 bags of wood at R10 each but the manager brought 2 and never gave us back our change for a R50 note! So when a knife and a glass broke we did not leave money - the glass was cracked anyway. Not worth R800!
It was a very nice experience. The place is nice and clean and has everything you need.
