Everything was convenient. We had to travel from Potchefstroom and had medication that had to be refrigerated all the time. The room did not have a fridge which I would have wanted to use to keep other things cold.

The whole guest house stinks of smoke, extremely bad. Dogs walking around and barking at the guests. When I left my room in the morning, the dog stood in front of the door and started barking. But the worst is the stench. The bathroom was also dirty and the floor was sticky. Would not recommend.

Upon my arrival I was received very warmly and I immediately felt at home. All the staff were so friendly and the layout is simple so you could easily find your way around. Everything was ready upon my arrival and I was served in Afrikaans. When inquiring about dinner for Sunday night, the host informed me that it was not available in the guest house, but he immediately made arrangements for a delicious meal elsewhere - a stone's throw from the guest house.

We stayed over in the Van Rhyn Guest House in Vanrhynsdorp as the first stopover of our Namaqua wild flower trip from Bellville and back. Contrary to the other reviews, the guesthouse owner welcomed us with open arms, explained all the “in’s and out’s” of the establishment, took us on a guided tour and explain the availability of the coffee/TV -, dining-, sitting rooms, etc. We were invited to use these facilities and the coffee was FREE. We were taken to our respective rooms where everything was explained in detail. The rooms were adequately equipped and the bed and bedding was outstanding. The toilet/shower was clean and soap/shampoos and a variety of towels was available for use. On our request if we can have a braai on the Saturday evening, we were taken to the swimming pool area and they assisted with the repositioning of the portable braai and grid to suit our needs. The owner’s even offered us wood for the braai. Needless to say, we had a wonderful braai evening that was enjoyed by all. We opted for the breakfast in the dining room on the Sunday morning. The variety was amazing and the service throughout was excellent. All of us commented that the food was well prepared and good tasting that left the pallet with that taste of total satisfaction. We left the establishment with a satisfied feeling and will definitely recommend the Van Rhyn Guest House to anybody that want a “platteland” experience. Definitely worth a visit and is highly recommended.
The guest house is in town, easy to find and has a stately look and atmosphere.
Our group had a great time staying and visiting. Although we were unsure what to expect when there was still plenty of space available at late notice while other places were already full, we were very pleasantly surprised. The facilities are clean, tidy and well maintained. Upon request, provision was made for us to have a barbecue in the lovely swimming area. Have a delicious breakfast the next morning. There is a communal room to make tea or coffee and watch TV, but there are no facilities in the rooms. It would be nice to have the ability to make tea in the room. Otherwise a very pleasant stay.
