The stay was excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful and go out of their way to make you feel at home. The hotel deserves 5 stars for service. The "attention to detail" is fantastic. The rooms are comfortable and have everything and more to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
The reception, service and genuine friendliness of all the staff was just a belt under the heart. The Kalahari kids made us feel like old friends.
Unbelievably nice place.
Best value for money. Thank you, you are the best bartender with the many stories you shared about the area! Very informative!
We had a wonderful stay and felt so at home. Definitely a destination to visit.
Very very nice, thank you.
A quaint little hotel in the middle of nowhere. Lovely room. Great customer service. Outstanding food. The skaap stertjies are to die for. Super friendly locals that invited me to join them for breakfast, because I was on my own. Well worth the drive from Twee Revieren.
We had a nice evening and morning, then we slept well. The rooms are very neat and clean.
Very nice and good hearted people!
Very nice.
We had a great stay with real Kalahari hospitality and delicious game pie.
True oasis if you travel to Kgalagadi.
Fantastic stop-over to the Kgalagadi park. What a surprise - a true gem! A bespoke, flamboyant, boutique hotel marked by its flamboyant and vivacious colours, striking Kalahari art and craft, and the Kalahari-themed bar, are all things which make this transit node worth a visit.
We had a nice stay, but the bar was full of smokers during our cocktail party. Dinner outside on the veranda was very good with nice vegetables with the main course. Appetizer of mutton stars is a taste winner. The breakfast was slightly disappointing with the sausage and bacon being totally overcooked.
It was fine but does feel a bit run down.
Most refreshing stay in a very artfully decorated hotel. It is worth it to travel here just for the art.
The accommodation and food were top notch.
It was my first visit to the Northern Cape and wanted to treat myself at the end of my 2 week camping tour with a 2 day stay in the Hotel. The Hotel, the town and its people took my breath away. It was more than I could have hoped or dreamed. The room was spacious, cool and very tidy with everything I could possibly need. I didn't check in until late Sunday afternoon and staff contacted me beforehand and asked if they could leave dinner for me in the fridge in the room. I was surprised with a delicious plate of cooked food, dessert and a little wine. The meals in the dining room are of good quality. Staff are friendly and go out of their way to make guests feel at home. It was indeed a great treat for myself that I would love to repeat again.
Have a nice time. Easygoing people.
Nice stopover with Kalahari friendliness, cold beer, good food and good sleep.
The service and reception was excellent. It's people-people If you hang out there long enough, you're family to the whole district. Their food is very tasty.
Comfortable place to stay in a very nice hotel.
Would stay here again anytime. Very hospitable from everyone.
I can definitely recommend the hotel. All the staff very friendly, helpful and hospitable. Every meal's food was delicious! It's a unique hotel with a special atmosphere.
Friendly hosts. Warm and welcoming.
What a unique hotel in the middle of nowhere! We had so much fun staying and hanging out with our friends. The food was also delicious and definitely value for money. Will definitely visit again!
Very nice experience. Picnic excellent.
Pleasant people. Good menu in the restaurant. Nice. Ideally located for a visit to Klein Jan or the Kgalagadi Park. The air conditioner works well.
Very neat and cheerful dressing. The gardens are beautiful and the atmosphere very cosy. The food was good and everyone very friendly.
Good overnight facility.
Everything was very neat, clean and staff very pleasant.
A lot of effort has been put into the smallest detail in every room. Very convenient, safe and affordable.
It was truly the experience we were hoping for. We knew from other people's stories that we wanted to stay there. Cool off the heat in the pool.
Very beautiful and nice and quiet, want to go again.
Truly a gem in the Kalahari!
Very nice. Will definitely do it again.
Beautiful and unique hotel. Loved the attention to detail.
Second time we stay there. Nice place to visit.
This little hotel off the beaten track is always our first choice to overnight at on our way to Kgalagadi. The decor is off-the-wall quirky and interesting and the beds so comfortable. The food to die for - do try the "skaap stertjies'.
Adeel en personeel baie vriendelik en goed georganiseer.
Staying at Vanzylsrus Hotel is always a highlight.
Accommodation was good and staff very friendly.
One hears a lot about the Hotel, a bit tired and in need of some upgrading, nevertheless it was a pleasant experience. Friendly staff. The food was very tasty, but a bit expensive.
The 150 km dirt road from Askham to Van Zylsrus, if you are familiar with dirt roads, is not at all as bad as one often hears ─ I've driven it a lot. In the last few years there is now the luxury of a tarmac road from Van Zylsrus over Hotazel to Kuruman. The well-maintained rooms have air conditioning and everything one needs. Secure parking behind the hotel within gated area with canopies and power points for your fridge. Dinner and breakfast are good. You can get a delicious breakfast pack if you want to wake up early.
After a long day on the road, the Van Zylsrus Hotel is an oasis. The rooms and hotel are funky and neat, and the owner is friendly and helpful. We had a great time in the bar, and breakfast the next morning was top notch.
Hospitable, tidy, good food, cool pool is an oasis, really enjoyed thank you.
Vanzylsrus' dirt road from Askham is rather infamous, but opinions on it vary widely. We drove it calmly and had no problems. The hotel's rooms and facilities are excellent and so are the meals. Further over Hotazel to Kuruman is tar road.
What a beautiful hotel! So artistic and nicely located close to the river. There were problems with load shedding and personnel who had to be transported across the river by boat due to the flooding, but they handled it calmly and professionally.
We will definitely come again - can't get enough of the Kalahari.
Most beautiful location and most delicious food. In a soggy Kalahari, the Vanzylsrus Hotel is a true oasis.
An oasis in the wilderness, had a great time.
Quiet neat atmosphere.
Delicious evening meal.
Staff is very friendly and provided very good service more than expected.
Friendly service. Spacious room with the most delicious cookies and rusks. Safe environment. Was able to walk in the dunes and took the most beautiful photo. Delicious food. Relaxed atmosphere.
Air conditioning was a big help, thank you.
The hotel is an ideal overnight stay on the way to the Kgalagadi. Friendly staff and delicious food. Rooms clean and beautiful inside. Will definitely visit the hotel again.
Hotel may have to provide for a non-smoking air-conditioned bar. Cover the area around the pool with paving or grass.
A welcome sight after traveling through the Kalahari! The pub serves ice cold beer and the restaurant serves delicious meals. Awesome art everywhere to be seen.
This is an ideal place to spend the night in a farming village's traditional hotel and local refreshment area. Friendly reception, peasant food and homely rooms.
Great hospitality, clean, delicious food and lovely people.
I slept over at Vanzylsrus as a child and wanted to show it to my husband and children. We will definitely stay there again. Slept well and enjoyed our meal.
It was very neat and the staff was very friendly.
Beautiful hotel, very interesting decor.
We stayed one night and can highly recommend the hotel. Clean and tidy with funky style, friendly people and very good food. Service was 100%. We would love to stop there again to sleep over or eat something in the restaurant.
Everything was just fantastic, from the sunset, to the full moon on the red sand dune, the friendliness and hospitality of all the staff, as well as the clean and neat facilities that make us definitely use Van Zyl's Rus Hotel's services again, and again.
Second visit and not the last. We feel like family in a nice informal atmosphere. From the bar to the restaurant is friendly and everyone has a good time together.
Wonderful sundowners and donkey cart ride. Road from Kuruman is now all tarred. Great food and helpful barman. Comfortable bed, good aircon, big bathroom with shower and bath. Always a special place to stay.
We appreciate the style of the structure, very original. The owner and the staff are very kind.
Beautiful, peaceful, good food and good company!
Incredibly delicious. Rooms very neat and food from the books.
See stars.
Nice to eat there. Their hospitality is top notch! You just feel so welcome. Staff is very friendly.
A lovely stop over on the way back from the Kgalagadi Game Reserve. Friendly staff and lovely dinner.
It is a nice overnight place.
We enjoyed it a lot, the hotel is neat, we had a friendly reception and the dinner was delicious, especially the Springbok fillet. The decor is unique and very interesting.
Have visited the hotel before. Can definitely see that some general maintenance needs to be done.
Clean rooms and good food. Unfortunately, some of the rooms are close to the bar, and it was noisy.
Lovely stay at this lovely hotel. Will definitely come again.
The small hotel offers interesting experience, with artistically decorated garden and rooms. The bar is a cozy gathering place for travelers, residents, and hunters. Only criticism is that the bartender takes ice for drinks with his hands from coolers and pours it into your drink. Maybe just a ladle would be more acceptable. The guests hang out everywhere - on porches, gardens, etc. The dinner is delicious, with country dishes on the menu - something for every taste. Included breakfast, very pleasant and tasty. Secure parking behind steel gate a bonus.
Neat, clean, great service, very helpful. A bit pricey after travelling such a long distance, but worth it!
The food was delicious and we really enjoyed the short stay! Rather a 4-star, not a 3-star, it was the best!
Awesome, well managed place.
It was great to be a part of the living artwork! Everyone was so friendly, the food was so good, oh the whole experience was just so positive and fun.
True oasis. Colorful place with warm people who make you feel at home right away. Meals are delicious.
This is one of the most beautiful, colourful hotels we've ever stayed. The owners pay attention to the finest details. The staff was very friendly and hospitable! The dinner and breakfast were delicious and good value for money! I'll definitely stay there again!
The staff went out of their way to make our "braai on the dune" exceptionally beautiful and enjoyable!
After a toilsome gravel road from Askham, the hotel was an oases. Immediately, Petro offered us something cold to swallow down all the dust. Unbelievable rooms, everyone with its own history. She cam e to check on us shortly, to be sure that we were still okay. The dinner was delicious and because we left early, we received prepared food parcels.
Lovely, fantastic, good people.
Beautiful hotel. Every time I walked outside, I saw something new. Friendly welcome and immediately felt at home. Delicious dinner. Nice, friendly and helpful owner. I would definitely recommend the hotel.
At first glance Vanzylsrus Hotel may not appeal to one's taste with it's quirky decor and layout, however it soon becomes apparent that a great deal of thought and attention to detail has gone into creating this clean, comfortable Green Kalahari gem. Furnishing and accessories have been made or chosen with love and flair. Food is well presented with generous portions at reasonable prices. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Very neat, affordable. Delicious food. Very friendly and helpful.
Terribly delicious!
Friendly staff and very hospitable. We had a delicious dinner and my children really enjoyed the pumpkin and simply ate it for dessert. Can recommend the hotel anytime.
Dit was regtig 'n verrassende ondervinding. Al die personeel is vriendelik, hulpvaardig en lewer uitstekende diens. Ek sal enige tyd weer daar oorbly!
A gem in the arid Kalahari and definitely a destination to consider on your way to the Kgalagadi Park or nearby hunting destinations.
We really enjoyed the two days at the hotel after two weeks of camping in the Kgalagadi and Botswana. The hotel is truly a gem in the Kalahari. Rooms are neat and well equipped. The customer service manager was very helpful and went out of her way to make our stay pleasant. Unfortunately, however, the rest of the staff did not make us feel very welcome.
Great stay in a quaint and quirky hotel.
Definitely worth a stop on the way to the Kgalagadi.
The hotel is very neat and the staff very friendly. The hotel is unique and the decor is very interesting. If you are in the area it is worth visiting.
Safe place to spend the night. Lovely breakfast.
Very good overall experience.
It was a wonderful experience staying at Vanzylsrus Hotel.
Clean, air conditioning helped a lot for November. Nice food! Nice sleepover on the way to Gemsbok Park.
A friendly, comfortable place after a very hot day's driving. Nice lawns and shade trees and a front porch with sprinklers that make it wonderfully cool. Perfect place for a few beers. The pool also helped a lot to shake off the day's sun and heat.
Thank you very much for all the effort you made for us! The sunset was great!
Staff friendly and helpful. Homely atmosphere. Excellent food and wine.
Very neat and clean with the most friendliest staff and management. Meals are fantastic.
Room was great, staff very friendly, meal good value, bathroom outstanding.
Slept well - peaceful and quiet.
Everything perfect. Fantastic atmosphere. Wish it was closer then we were there more often.
The hotel is ideally located for those traveling from Pretoria to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. It is now (from Pretoria) about 250 km past the halfway point, but then again the next day you only have more time to drive the dirt road. Rooms were very neat with air conditioning that could work properly. Dinner and breakfast were good. The dirt road from Van Zylsrus to Askham is basically good and throughout we were able to drive at around 80 km/h without problem. Would highly recommend, the route via Van Zylsrus is approx 250km shorter than via Upington.
We really enjoyed it, food was delicious.
We stayed 2 nights and we really enjoyed the hotel. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are very pretty, clean, and neat. Frendly and helpful staff and the food is delicious. This was our second overnight stop here, and we will be back and recommend it to anyone. It is a very special place, with very special people! We also recommend the donkey-cart ride - something different that you have to experience.
We enjoyed the accommodation and will go back any time.
One of the nicest places I've ever stayed. Fantastic decor and friendly people!
Even though it is far, it is an oasis in the desert.
Hannelie, the managers, was very hospitable and friendly. We had a very nice stay. The rooms were very clean, tidy and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were also very nice. We really enjoyed the creative decorations in the room, as well as outside. Would definitely recommend the Hotel to travelers.
