204 guests' feedbackThis gorgeous piece of paradise was ideal for our overnight stay - got there in time for a walk to the dam, the flowering species were spectacular! Die Voerstal was perfect! Everything we needed, immaculately clean, with an incredible view. Debbie was wonderful and explained everything - we loved our short stay!
Went home alone in the Worker House for 3 days and was surprised with everything. A lovely large unit with furniture, linen, cutlery and appliances of the highest quality. Lived like a king and admired the natural beauty. A wonderful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Debbie welcomed me warmly and explained everything well and also kept me informed of everything via WhatsApp. WiFi reception was excellent!
Once again slept and stayed wonderfully. Warmly received by Debbie and she once again made us feel so welcome. Can definitely recommend.
Incredible experience. Hostess so considerate, friendly. Unity was perfect.
Cottage & everything it contains is top quality. Very clean & tidy.
Really beautiful and the house is comfortable. The farm itself is beautiful and we really enjoyed exploring Meiringspoort.
Thank you for the lovely visit and comfortable sleepover.
I travel frequently and throughout South Africa and stay overnight at various guesthouses and holiday resorts. Darkenskraal, as far as excellent accommodation, location, cleanliness, equipment in the unit and general stay experience is concerned, is of the highest quality. I cannot but congratulate the owners and manager from the bottom of my heart for the outstanding and very high quality, as far as overnight/accommodation is concerned, offered to guests. The high-quality equipment in the kitchen, the high-quality bedding, the layout of the accommodation, the special layout of the unit inside and out, and then the beautiful scenery, means that I will definitely stay again and bring my family and relatives too . Top quality and at least 5 star. Don't miss this gem.
We had a wonderful stay. Was amazed at the great location and beautiful house.
Very nice and very nice stay. Spacious accommodation, and very private. I would highly recommend the place for sure.
Very pleasant and friendly reception and help.
Delightful setting, great base to explore the area. Great cottages in immaculate condition. Highly recommend for weekend or 2-night stays.
Had a great stay and the host was extremely helpful. Everything was available for a comfortable stay, also to drive away the cold in midwinter. We will visit here again.
Most enjoyable, lovely location and very well equipped. The Ngunis were a treat to watch.
We had a great time in luxury and enjoyed the time very much! Really value for money and everything needed is available - even a complimentary bottle of wine! Received us kindly and immediately made us feel at home - thank you very much again, you are precious. At sunset the Ngunis came to greet and the fiery red aloes' chandeliers kept watch through the silent dark night!
Debbie and her family are "next level". And it's the perfect place if you want to explore Meiringspoort and surrounding areas.
This was our third time at Varkenskraal, certainly not the last time. Debbie received us kindly, as always. Cottage is so well equipped and spotlessly clean!
Fantastic spot at the one side of Meiringspoort pass. The house is perfect. Great beds, bedding, utensils, and a nice shower. Great braai area as well. Could spend a few days there exploring Meiringspoort, Swartberg area, or just parking off!
Nicely appointed cottage on a lovely spot overlooking mountains. We loved the area and scenery. The host does a great job in looking after the accommodation. Thank you!
Lovely stay, great location and very clean.
I return again and again to Verkenskraal. Debbie takes good care of her guests, place is super neat, well furnished, private, and dog friendly. Thanks to the Verkenskraal team.
Varkenskraal was the last stay of our annual leave and we wanted to drive the Swartberg Pass and also visit De Rust and Prince Albert as part of our Southern Cape holiday. We were very kindly welcomed by the hostess. She went out of her way to make sure on a daily basis that everything was in order and that we didn't need anything. The Werkershuis is beautifully and tastefully equipped with everything you need. The location is perfect and close to both bg. towns. Definitely a well cared for gem and accommodation choice on Route 62.
We had a wonderful stay and told all my friends to go stay there. Beautiful setting and very comfortable. Debbi gave us a warm welcome and explained everything to us. A really asset.
We experienced 5 star accommodation.
Super neat. Spacious and well furnished with everything you need. Quiet, peaceful, beautiful surroundings. View from stoep is incredibly beautiful. Debbie is very friendly and helpful. Free bottle of wine was a nice bonus. Will definitely stay there again!
Beautiful setting with a glorious view, spotless cottage, extremely comfortable, superior in every way. Welcoming host who has thought of absolutely everything, what a treat!
Exceptionally good and clean.
The tranquility was so wonderful! Everything was exceptionally clean. The kitchenware and furniture are of high quality and I enjoyed cooking with everything at my disposal. From the layout to the content is carefully planned and perfectly executed.
Had a great time. It was our second time there. Very comfortable units. Silver clean, no dust, not even on windowsills outside. Windows so clean, you have to look carefully if they are open or closed. Well equipped unit. Definitely a must to visit there.
One of the better places we've stayed in lately. Scenic, neat and clean, nice bottle of wine, campfire under the stars, clean grill, firewood, spacious rooms that are well equipped, nice big showers, covered and safe for vehicle, close to main route but private. Can be considered for longer periods for vacation. It feels like someone who knows exactly what guests need is holding their hand in this place so that everything is perfect.
This is absolutely beautiful accommodation with everything one could need and desire. Friendly welcome, definitely a place you want to return to.
We had a wonderful stay at Varkenskraal. The amazing house, which was perfectly clean with top-class appliances, was so relaxing amidst the sounds of birds and farm life. Even a free bottle of wine. Thank you.
Had a great time, accommodation is super neat and people so friendly and helpful with anything. Can recommend anytime for a visit in De Rust.
Beautiful setting, very clean and well outfitted, and the host who hosted us was very friendly and helpful. I will stay there again, and for more than one night next time.
The place is clean, comfortable and secluded in nature. Perfect for a romantic getaway.
A superb and relaxing location. Extremely clean, well equipped and well managed. A place I am very happy to recommend and to go back one day.
Everything was wonderful except for the constant noise of an extractor fan at the seed store on the farm. After we complained about it, it was stopped for a while.
Yes, thank you, it was a nice stay and enjoyed the beautiful nature.
Pork kraal was a pleasant surprise. Nice stay in the two-bedroom house, with a comfortable open-plan lounge-kitchen. Very peaceful, lovely with farm activities and vineyards all around. If prospective guests expect a TV, they will be disappointed.
Friendly reception, beautiful farm with lovely accommodation. Accommodation was as advertised.
Verkenskraal is the perfect getaway or overnight stay. It's quiet and incredibly beautiful but still just a stone's throw away from the nearest town. Their communication is great and we felt immediately welcome.
We had a lovely stay. The mountains around the cottage are breathtaking. We will definitely visit again.
Verkenskraal is one of my favorite getaways - the atmosphere, the view and the cleanliness of the houses and farm. I can really "disconnect".
We have stayed in a few places in the Karoo in recent weeks, and put Varkenskraal at the top of our list! Debbie and her team do an excellent job of keeping the Feedlot neat and impeccably clean. Best we have ever come across. The equipment in the house, especially in the kitchen, is of a very high quality and a pleasure to use. The place is nicely equipped and it's really pleasant to stay there. Our four nights were actually too short! Nicely located near De Rust where we enjoyed great breakfast and/or coffee three times at Ray's Coffee Shop. We will definitely be returning to the Foerkraal on Pigskraal!
Really enjoyed our stay. The scenery is lovely. We enjoyed the walks, the company of the friendly old sheepdog that escorted us, feeding the cow and calf, and the beautiful birdlife. The house was comfortable. We got rained in and streamed the rugby on an iPad. The host was friendly and helpful.
Very neat accommodation and the hostess received us warmly. Will definitely recommend.
This time we stayed 2 nights in Voerstal. The place was spotless and had everything we needed. The fireplace was lovely because it was cold. The electric blankets were a bonus! Debbie was once again an excellent hostess and communicated with us all the time before and during our visit. She is truly an asset to Verkenskraal! The river was in flood and she was waiting for us to see that we got through safely. This is definitely one of our favorite destinations!
Debbie our hostess surprised us with a complimentary bottle of Verkenskraal Chenin, delicious. I would highly recommend the Voerstal. Massive fire pit for barbecuing every night, with a breathtaking view. Ngunis and their calves frolicked in the vineyard in front of the house early in the morning. White linen, fully fitted kitchen, large bathrooms. Couldn't ask for more.
Had a lovely stay in a beautiful location and very nice accommodation. Debbie was very helpful, would definitely stay there again.
This was our second time at Varkenskraal. We will definitely go again. Lacks nothing, good communication and beautiful location.
My husband and I just made our long weekend a little longer. Verkenskraal is a lovely place surrounded by mountains and the most beautiful vegetation. We went for lovely long walks in a safe environment. Thanks to Debbie, she is a beautiful hostess who makes you feel welcome and at home and spares no effort to keep her guests happy and satisfied. Thank you very much, we will definitely visit you again.
Excellent accommodation and scenery! Very neat and well equipped - 5 star! Will visit again for sure!
Beautiful location, beautiful place to stay, very neat and fully equipped. Can be confidently recommended.
Varkenskraal Farm is very well located with beautiful views. Everything was very neat and clean. Will definitely stay there again.
Beautiful views. The Werkershuisie is very well furnished. Appreciated the complimentary wine and air conditioning. Debbie the manager is an asset.
The ideal place to find yourself. Wonderfully peaceful and beautiful surroundings surrounded by the mountains. Everything you need in the Worker's House. Couldn't have asked for more. Thank you very much for your hospitality and for sharing it with us.
Beautiful, well equipped unit. One of the best. Very friendly host.
Warm welcome, place is beautiful and clean with all the amenities we needed.
Very warm welcome by Debbie, and we were pleasantly surprised with aircon and very grateful in the heat! Lovely overnight stay, everything very neat and stylish and will definitely stay there again.
I will definitely return for a longer visit. Thank you for the bottle of your delicious wine waiting in the fridge on my arrival.
Debbie makes so much effort - the wood and wine stood up to welcome us on a cold and wet day!
Very nice place to stay if you plan to see Meiringspoort! Our children really enjoyed the farm, as well as the house.
The Hostess was really a nice experience with her kindness, and she took us through the Worker's House, and went through everything with us. Good barbecue, good sleep, silver clean when we checked in. The Ngunis were too nice to see, nice farm feel, just what the doctor would prescribe to take your mind to dreams of "just being", if I pass by again I will book early.
We were very kindly received by Debbie who made us feel wonderfully at home. Unbeatable stay. All and more than one needs and beautifully clean and tidy. Five star accommodation. Quiet environment. Would have liked to visit longer.
Debbie was an excellent hostess, the accommodation is top notch!
Wonderful, peaceful setting!
Friendly reception and pleasant stay. What bothered me was load shedding, the traffic you hear and the house was very cold (gets no sun).
Arrive at the farm in a heatwave. Debbie is there to cheerfully greet us, hops onto her Green Machine and takes us to the cottage. Shows us how everything works and how to work the air conditioner. Did not need it as the cottage is cool inside. In the fridge, a bottle of wine made from the grapes grown on the farm. Lovely easy walks all over the farm. Lucky enough to see the steenbokkies at the big dam. A beautiful relaxing break in quality surroundings.
Thank you Debbie, for the wonderful welcome. Beautiful views and very peaceful. You can sit for hours just listening to the birds and admiring the views.
From arrival to departure, we were looked after by Debby. She went above and beyond. The place was spick and span and really a comfortable stay.
In the heart of Meiringspoort. We stayed in Die Werkershuise for one night. Beautiful, neat place with everything you need. Complimentary bottle of the farm's own wine in the fridge was a surprise. Thank you Debbie for your friendly service and all your effort to bring us the extra ice and wine we ordered. We will definitely stay there again.
Debby received us very kindly. Lovely place to stay. Environment so beautiful. Will definitely book there again.
Had a great sleep and stay in the Worker's House. Everything you need and of great quality. Debbie is very helpful and friendly and made us feel really welcome on arrival. Nice walking trail to the dam a must. Can definitely recommend and will definitely stay longer next time!
Beautiful surroundings and great place to stay. I hope to come back sometime.
Beautiful house, equipped with quality in every room. Incredibly clean, with everything you could possibly need. Will definitely go there again.
The farm is beautiful. The house we stayed in had everything one could need. Me and my wife and 2 dogs enjoyed the farm life.
Debbie is an excellent hostess. Location is very nice. Amenities from the books.
This is a great place for any occasion!
This is excellent accommodation. Everything one needs and all the attention paid to small detail. Would have liked to stay longer.
We were very warmly welcomed at Porkenskraal by Debbie. Our dog was just as warmly welcomed and the hiking trails and farm activities make you feel like you are part of the farm. Lovely, cuddly bed linen and electric blankets, fireplace and braai wood, kitchen equipped with everything you need. View is fantastic! A warm welcome and inquiries were dealt with quickly and professionally.
Even though Varlenskraal is located right next to the N12, one cannot see the road from the house. Can hear heavy vehicles passing outside, but not bother inside. Debbie gave me a warm welcome. House newly done, beautifully neat and well planned. Lovely stay and ideal accommodation for a couple with two children, or a single traveler with a dog, like me.
Friendly, helpful hostess.
We just wanted to get away as a family and for that the place is perfect. We really enjoyed the farm's silence, walking and surroundings. However, we would have liked a little more privacy.
Second time here overnight in two months. Very good value for money. Beautiful surroundings. Neat accommodation with all the amenities. Can definitely recommend it.
The air conditioning, fireplace and boma are great luxuries for any weather conditions. The farm offers wonderful walking opportunities and there are many bird species to view. The hostess is professional and makes you feel really welcome.
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Varkenskraal with our two Miniature Schnauzers. We stayed in Die Voerstal which exceeded our expectations - beautifully furnished, amazing view, lovely braai area and much more. The farm is ideally situated for anybody wanting to explore the magnificent Meiringspoort or the quaint village, De Rust. The manageress, Debbie is exceptionally friendly, helpful and accommodating. She really went out of her way to make our stay even more special. We can also highly recommend the Varkenskraal wine!
The place was clean, tidy and luxurious. The staff are friendly and helpful. Would go back anytime.
A beautiful view and the hosts were very accommodating. The place was clean and safe and the pics does not do it justice.
Silver clean, well equipped cottages, crisp linen, brand new equipment and strong WiFi. Firewood was provided which is a big bonus. Excellent location. Extremely competent and friendly manager (Debbie). Complimentary Chenin Blanc in fridge is huge bonus. Going back again for sure! Please suggest the following: 1. Ceiling fans in the bedrooms would be welcome - there is air conditioning in the living area, but not in the bedrooms. 2. Please sit down. a lock box at the gate in which guests can put the gate key if they leave early.
They will definitely see me again, just a stone's throw from me and everything is just perfect. Will recommend it to all my friends and family.
Pleasantly surprised. Neat facilities with everything you need and a beautiful view. Real farm feel. Highly recommend.
It's not just a pretty picture, it's really pretty! Accommodation is of high quality and with its idyllic location at the foot of Meiringspoort, definitely worth those extra bucks! A special thank you to hostess Debbie for her friendly welcome. Her bubbling enthusiasm for this beautiful farm is contagious! By staying here, we could see the port properly, get to know its 25 streams and their names and where they come from, get our feet/body wet at a waterfall. Actually, you have to stay at least 2 nights at Varkenskraal so that you can have a quiet barbecue in the evening, look out over the farm's vineyards and see how the setting sun makes the beautiful rock formations glow!
Debbie was very hospitable and made an effort to make us feel at home. The surroundings are beautiful and the two dogs that came to visit were friendly. André responded quickly to my emails and the complimentary bottle of wine was a nice bonus. You guys have a beautiful place. Thanks for your effort!
Lovely, hospitable reception.
Very friendly welcome by Debbie. The cottage is fully equipped. Very neatly clean and well maintained. Can highly recommend.
Neat, clean and well equipped. Very nice environment. Unbeatable hospitality.
Was there with our two dogs who enjoyed it just as much. So worth the time to stay there.
Verkenskraal was at the end of our 10 day trip by motorcycle and was by far the highlight, in terms of accommodation and hospitality! Our friendly hostess, Debbie, went out of her way to make our stay even more enjoyable. Upon our arrival we immediately decided to stay an extra night. The wine is delicious and we found a complementary bottle of Chenin Blanc in the fridge. In the scorching Klein Karoo heat, swimming in the farm pond was just what one needed! (How about a jetty in the dam, Pieter?) Porkenskraal, with Debbie as an incredible hostess, is a Little Karoo gem! We recommend a visit to you for everyone. You get 6 stars from us!
We had a good sleepover at Varkenskraal. The kitchen is well equipped. The environment is beautiful.
Lovely, clean and well equipped little house, perfect for our stay over. Our dogs were welcome and enjoyed a bit of the farm life. The reception was friendly and we even had a chilled bottle of Varkenskraal waiting for us in the fridge.
Debbie gave us a very warm welcome to this amazing and spacious cottage. It was perfectly clean and had everything one required and more. Everything was in perfect condition. The cottage overlooked the lovely green vineyards and the beautiful hills beyond that. A great place for bird lovers and taking photographs. Such a peaceful and relaxing environment. We were even blessed with a complimentary bottle of Varkenskraal white wine. Just a pity we could not stay longer. Thanks for a lovely stay. We will return if in the area again.
Was really delicious. Everything one needs. Will definitely come back to Verkenskraal again. Clean, tidy and was kindly welcomed.
The house was very well furnished, clean and tidy! We spent a lovely evening around the fire with friends. The two bedrooms each had their own bathroom.
Well-equipped unit, in lovely surroundings. Close to so many places to explore and visit. Debbie, the manager, is friendly and very helpful.
Please add an electric blanket and then all blocks are ticked.
Our hostess was absolutely on her feet. No shortage of anything and kindness by itself. It was a lovely visit in a hospitable place. Absolutely worth it.
On a freezing night, Debbie made us feel welcome like old friends. She even brought extra wood to thaw the frozen bodies. The delicious bottle of Verkenskraal Merlot in front of the fireplace made the evening go by too quickly. Quality equipment and finishes throughout the unit. Can highly recommend this accommodation.
Working vineyard, cattle and onion seed farm. Nice wines. Calm armosphere.
We had a great time in a nice and tidy place to stay. We would stay here again and recommend it as well.
A stunning cottage a few minutes away from Meiringspoort waterfall. The scenery is spectacular. The cottage had everything we needed. We ate dinner at a quirky and brilliant cafe just down the road, Cafe Rust, in De Rust. Highly recommend staying and visiting De Rust.
The Werkershuisie was very neat, clean and modern. Debbie's friendliness after a long day's drive was very pleasant. Beautiful surroundings of the farm with lovely places to go for a walk. Everything was perfect.
We stayed 2 lovely nights. Very nice to rest and walk around the farm. The dogs were ecstatic. The Chenin Blanc is delicious.
The worker's house is very nice to stay in. With a bottle of wine in the fridge and filtered water, one can sit quietly on the veranda and appreciate the view. Very neat, clean and everyone very friendly.
The house (feeder) is very comfortable, with everything you need for self-care. The view is breathtaking and the location is perfect. I would highly recommend Varkenskraal to anyone who would like to visit Meiringspoort.
Wonderful, blissful! Was nice thank you.
Friendly welcome, spacious, comfortably well equipped and comfortable accommodation. Beautiful surroundings with Ngunis and vineyards (and a complimentary bottle of wine) for company. First a beautiful scarlet sunset and then Karoo stars at their brightest. See you on our next visit to Meiringspoort.
The perfect place to sleep if you are tired from driving, incredibly beautiful farm and the accommodation is fantastic. Everything you need!
The setting was lively. The views were great. The amenities are very well supplied. The complimentary wine a lovely touch.
Verkenskraal sits at the foot of Meiringspoort. Truly one of the most beautiful areas to stay. The accommodation is top notch! Neat, comfortable and provides everything you need in the kitchen. Friendly service. I definitely give it five stars!
Nothing was too much trouble to ensure that my needs were met. The stay was one in a million! Friendly staff, clean, fresh house. I will stay at Varkenskraal again! Thank you so much!
Tranquility of evening silence so around boma fire.
The surroundings are beautiful, as is the housing. The unit is well equipped and the host and hostess were very friendly.
Just 4 km from de Rust in the Meiringspoort lie 2 beautiful self-sufficient houses. Very well equipped, with everything you need. Farm manager goes out of his way to make everything as comfortable as possible. Would stay there again anytime.
Quiet, earthy, nature special and stars a spectacle.
Varkenskraal is a little spot of heaven: vineyards nestled between the mountains, with Nguni cows as an impressive sideshow! With every need catered for (including the most fantastic fireplace), my only regret is that we didn't stay longer. The accommodation was superb: really good quality in every way. Jana was also a fantastic host. Thank you! We will be back!
Friendly welcome with the well equipped house which is perfect for a family or two couples for a weekend/week away.
Verkenskraal is well located and very well equipped with everything you could need. Two delicious outdoor barbecues, and a fireplace inside. There is a small bar and full kitchen. The two rooms are on opposite sides of the living room (in the middle) and each room has its own bathroom - with a huge, and delicious, shower! Nice comfortable beds and warm bedding, lots of storage space in the cupboards for longer stays. The view from the house, but especially from the lovely outdoor barbecue area/boma/stoep is beautiful! The complimentary wine from the farm was a nice bonus and surprise.
We were 2 families (each with 2 children between 10 and 4) who used both houses. The cottages are both equipped with everything one needs. There were even heaters in each bedroom which came in very handy on the cold winter evenings. Many thanks also for the delicious complimentary bottle of wine. It's a beautiful peaceful part of the Karoo and we all really enjoyed the break. Will definitely stay at Varkenskraal again.
It's really a very, very nice place, extremely neat and we had a great barbecue with our friends at the boma in front of the house. It's really very neat and we slept great too. The owner also stopped by to see if everything was okay, impressive.
Beautiful area and friendly reception. No cell phone signal, but perfect place for a weekend visit or relaxing after the long drive.
We had a wonderful stay en route to the Eastern Cape. The property was comfortable with wonderful views. Exploring the farm was a joy for my son and dog. Will definitely return.
The farm is beautiful. The cottage is well equipped with everything one needs. It was a lovely visit and so nice to walk through the vineyards.
Would recommend to anyone unsure where to stay. The farm holds a lot of history especially during the building of Meiringspoort. Andre and Gail own the farm, they're young and easy going. Andre even popped round during a bout of load shedding to ensure that we were fine! The cottage 2 has a fire pit, 2 bedrooms with large en-suite. The cottages are equipped with top of the range gadgets, the lounge has a huge fire place. We'd return in a heartbeat - the beauty of Meiringspoort is something that should be on everyone's bucket list. The wine was so good that we stopped by on our way out to purchase more.
Nestled in Meiringspoort is a little gem; the Werkershuisie is quant and has all the necessary amenities, including tea, coffee, sugar and milk! The surprise is the complimentary bottle of Varkenskraal wine. The host, Jana was very friendly and explained all the in and outs on arrival. If you're looking for a hiatus, this is the ideal place.
We recently spent the night at Varkenskraal and really enjoyed it. The two bedroom/bathroom cottage was very comfortable with all the accessories for a comfortable experience. We were kindly received on the farm and also received a complimentary bottle of Porkenskraal wine. Feel free to read the interesting origin of Meiringspoort on the coffee table. We will definitely use Verkenskraal again as the opportunity arises.
Fifth time staying at Varkenskraal and as always very satisfied.
We were in Die Werkershuisie. The other unit was already booked. The Werkershuisie's braai was at the back of the cottage on its own large covered patio against the woods. The other unit's braai is at the front on the stoep. The larger unit also has a large round braai as part of the porch which is more of a socializing area, although there is also a built-in braai on the side of the front porch. The larger unit's braai makes a slight wind shelter if the wind were to blow from that side. The Werkershuisie's front porch is open. Both units' beautiful view over the vineyards and mountains is equally good. The two houses are very private and you don't hear or see your neighbours. What impressed us the most was the cleanliness and quality of all the furniture and equipment. The restoration of the cottage has been superbly done with a high standard of craftsmanship, especially the woodwork. Every room's windows have roman blinds and this is usually problematic in most places and we hate it. However, those who were in the Worker's House worked especially smoothly and were really obviously neat. There were only two of us, and nothing was cramped. The bed and bedding were excellent. We only asked that the feather pillows should be replaced with regular anti-allergic pillows in the future as I am severely allergic to any form of feathers. Fortunately, we have our own pillows that we always ride around with. To sum it up, it's quality accommodation. You feel good when you've unpacked and everything falls into place, especially after the first cup of coffee and biscuit waiting for you on the table. It's now our future 'place' if we go in that direction again.
The Verkenskraal wine and the milk in the fridge was a nice treat. And there was wood provided for the fireplace and the braai.
Lovely place to stay overnight.
This farm is right in Meiringspoort. Absolutely worth it. The house is big, neat, clean and well furnished. Enough cutlery for 8 people and the kitchen has everything you need even to bake a cake! I would recommend the farm anytime! This is a must if you are in the vicinity of Oudtshoorn.
See stars.
Scenic. Fire pit a winner. Small table on the porch is an eye catcher. Little Karoo delicacies.
The unit was clean and very well-equipped. They had a hairdryer with a plug point and mirror in the correct place. Debbie went way and beyond to assist me with a personal problem.
This is a very special hidden place. So much peace and quiet! The view from the porch is unbeatable.
What a gem is Varkenskraal! Perfect location with the most wonderful accommodation. It was soul food.
Varkenskraal's house is very well equipped. Lovely fresh bedding. The hostess is very friendly. Beautiful view over the orchards and mountains. Nice and quiet and beautiful stars.
Really enjoyed the stay. Drove from Hartenbos for 2 nights over Robenson pass to see my wife and daughter Meiringspoor, Kangogrotte etc. to show
I was received kindly and the overnight place was sparkling clean. Quiet farm atmosphere in one of the most beautiful parts of our country.
We were very kindly received at Varkenskraal. It is a beautiful house with good facilities. Picturesque area between the mountains. The children enjoyed the sheepdogs that came to visit us. We will definitely stay there again if we are in the area.
The location, view and cottages are out of the books. The finish inside the cottage is beautiful. The Karoo calm hits you when you sit on the veranda and look out over the vineyards and Ngunis. And De Rust is just a stone's throw away.
We will visit Varkenskraal again for sure. The house is equipped with everything you could need and more. From the boma braai and patio you have the most beautiful view, we enjoyed every moment.
Pleasantly surprised by the natural beauty on the almost hidden farm in the beautiful Meiringspoort!
See stars.
Very well equipped, friendly reception, nice barbecue and place to visit behind the house and a welcome, cold surprise in the fridge!
Reception was very friendly, with a complimentary bottle of wine from the farm. Very neat. Everything that could possibly be needed is there. Outdoor barbecue and fireplace.
Verkenskraal is perfectly located. The house is lovely, fully equipped with a picture-perfect view. We would definitely recommend it!
Beautiful houses among the grapes. Nice interior decoration. Good quality. Delicious wine made from the grapes. Delicious. Would definitely recommend and go back again. Lots of birds to watch too and nice sunset.
Strongly recommended.
Beautiful location. We will definitely be back.
What a view! No TV, so much time for hanging out and reading.
Great accommodation with everything you need.
Verkenskraal Farm accommodation was excellent. Top quality indoor equipment. Clean and very tidy. Lovely peaceful atmosphere with lots of birds. The ice cold Chenin blanc wine was a great surprise and thoroughly enjoyed. Herman was an excellent host.
Bottle of wine in fridge and Herman was always willing to assist in need. The lady cleaned our house midway through stay and she was great.
If you want to get away for a few days this is the place to go.
We spent the night as a family and made wonderful memories together. Friendly and warm welcome. Picturesque views and the fire pit was a winner. Our family hung out around him until after dark. Will definitely recommend Verkenskraal.
Me, my husband and our 2 Golden Retriever dogs. It was really great, clean, tidy, comfortable. The Voerstal was well equipped and we would definitely like to stay there again. It is a working farm with vineyard and fields. The manager was very helpful and friendly. Thank you very much Anges. Your help and effort is appreciated.
Always a pleasure to return. Lovely setting, friendly and helpful hosts, very comfortable, neat and well-equipped house.
Beste plek wat ek nog ooit by oornag het! Alles was net amazing! Sal definitief wie hier oornag! Dit is net breathtaking mooi!
Clean and tidy. Pleasant and helpful hostess and spouse. Unity offers everything you need. Easily accessible. In an area that offers a lot to discover. Meiringspoort was of course tops.
Had a great time. It was peaceful and had a nice view. Would stay there again.
I made a last minute reservation at Varkenskraal and was it one of the best places I've stayed at. Jana welcomed me, amazing lady. I am actually returning to the De Rust area tomorrow and will for sure try to stay at Varkenskraal again. The bottle of wine was a great touch and very welcome after the heat of the day. Spectacular views and a amazing cottage. Thank you very much for hosting me.
People are very friendly.
We really enjoyed the peaceful and quiet environment. I will stay there again for sure.
Nice holiday home with facilities for hanging out around the fire if the weather permits. Beautiful location.
We say goodbye again with heavy hearts and will definitely stay again.
We just found the place to be a bit dusty and the carpet in the down stairs rook was not very clean. I would recommend people to stay there as we found it very peaceful.
A pool in summer, and an internal fireplace in winter would be nice.
The manager was not very welcoming. And chased us out at 10:15 - I have elderly folks (dad with Alzheimer’s) and I was trying to get them packed up on time. He was quite rude.
No cell phone signal and WiFi was very slow.
The modern fully equipped chalet is a notch above the norm. Would highly recommend for not just an overnight stay but for longer stays if anyone wants to explore the surrounding area.
We had an incredibly nice stay on this beautiful farm. The accommodation is top notch and there is everything (and more) you need. The house is very comfortable and very clean. Would definitely stay here again, but for at least two nights. Thank you very much for everything, Jana.
See stars.
Verkenskraal is very neat and they are very hospitable the place is heaven on earth you can go for a barbecue and don't forget the complimentary bottle of wine in the fridge.
Now it was a nice visit with the most beautiful view.
Thank you to Herman, Jana and their dog! We had a great stay. The cute house has everything that you need. Just give instructions to use the fancy microwave. Everything was perfect! Would definitely stay there again.
It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been! Very friendly service. Thank you very much.
Neat and clean please. Silence is very nice.
Beautiful, neat, clean and everything you need is in the beautiful house. We enjoyed every moment. Lovely indoor fireplace that we enjoyed until late at night. The showers are to be dreamed of ─ big enough for an entire rugby team. The large bed was cozy as well as the 2 small beds. However, there is only one small fault with the single beds: the mattress is too big and Gertjie almost fell out of bed twice when she wanted to turn over because the mattress sagged. The board under the mattress should be the same size as the mattress. Thank you very much, we had a wonderful time also with the farm foreman and his beautiful little daughter. Can really recommend the place in the mountains.
We definitely recommend Varkenskraal for those who would like to escape from everyday hustle and bustle. Here one finds rest for body and mind. Friendly service makes the experience even better. Thank you for 2 unforgettable nights.
Thank you very much for a great evening. One night is not enough. Very quiet and private between the mountains.
So warmly welcomed with a visit from the owners as well as the managers wife. Exceptional accommodation with all needs met.
Everything is of outstanding value. Good service, good content and slept well.
Ek sal Varkenskraal vir enige iemand aanbeveel! Dit was so lekker. Die mense is baie vriendelik en was baie verwelkomend toe ons daar aankom! En die beste van als was, daar was 'n yskoue bottel wyn in die yskas! Alles was net heerlik! Dankie!
We found peace and quiet and rested very well. Location is ideal for exploring the area. We would love to go there again!
We really enjoyed the stay and it is definitely worth spending the night there. Our dogs also enjoyed going swimming in the farm pond. The wine is fantastic.
It was a really awesome experience. People friendly and very helpful.
Very nice please. Drove beautiful Swartberg Pass and visited the lovely town of Prince Albert. House is very well and luxuriously equipped.
We spent the night at Varkenskraal. The cottage is very neat and clean, with an air conditioner that works well and a beautiful view of the farm that takes its name from pig lilies. The reception was friendly and there are good visiting facilities which we could not use due to the short stay.
This place of rest with its generous reception and open spaces was exactly what my human soul, spirit and body needed! Thank you that I can breathe again after the fantastic time on the slopes of the Black Mountains!
See stars.
It was a pleasant start to our holiday, slept well.
Varkenskraal surprised us a lot. The view from the braai area at the big house is fantastic. These are perhaps the best equipped cottages I have ever stayed in. There is literally nothing missing. People have thought of everything and the price is so fair that one cannot overlook it. We will definitely stay there again. It was so relaxing just to sit and socialise around the big fire and even drink some of Varkenskraal's own wine.
I would definitely recommend Varkenskraal Farm, great week away, and very relaxing!
Enjoyed the complementary and chilled-bottle of Chenin Blanc, the farm's own wine.
