152 guests' feedbackWe loved our night here! So peaceful with beautiful views. We will definitely be back! Comfortable rooms with an amazing pre-ordered dinner! Thank you for everything!
Beautiful, nice and wonderful place to spend the night or for a longer stay. Everything one needs is at hand with a friendly hostess.
Very nice. It was neat and clean and perfectly located for our onward journey to Baviaanskloof.
Lovely stay, hostess went out of her way to accommodate us, very hospitable, delicious meal.
Lovely oasis after a long day through Baviaans Kloof. Real Karoo hospitality.
My favourite place in this part of the country. Excellent experience.
Our visit was incredibly nice. The environment is fantastic. The owners and animals were very friendly and hospitable. An experience to remember.
See stars.
Nice people, nice and quiet.
Wonderful holiday. Already recommended to many friends and family. Will definitely want to visit there again. We arrived as guests but left as family. Thank you very much Chris, Roenel and sis.
A very cozy and neat place.
We went home again at Verberg Herberg, and it has now become an institution with our participation in the Trans Bavian annually. We were once again very kindly received and the accommodation is top notch. The rooms are spacious, neat and clean. The facilities and recreation area with braai are very comfortable and make you feel as if you are at home and can relax wonderfully.
After hiking the Leopard Trail, we looked for a place where we could spend the night and enjoy dinner before the long trek back home. Ronelle served us a delicious 3-course dinner while we watched rugby and the boys played pool. Perfect end to our visit in the Bavian.
We had a wonderful stay!
Very nice and clean. Nice food.
Very hospitable, helpful and old-Karoo feeling. Would like to visit there again. Children really enjoyed the pool and trampoline! Nice dirt road to drive.
Dirt road is in good condition. Host and wife are focused on providing top quality service. Particularly clean and tidy. Linens are the best I have ever slept on. Crispy.
Lovely setting and conveniently close to Baviaanskloof. The owners are very accommodating and the room had all we needed. We loved the friendly dogs too.
Quiet surroundings, beautiful night sky. Gateway to the Biviaanskloof.
Hide guest house is very nicely furnished! Our welcome was warm and our facilities were exceptional. My husband, a bird watcher, was very excited to find the Scimitarbill there.
Had a top-class meal with a roaring fire to complete the atmosphere. Accommodation was excellent and all the facilities were sparkling clean. Hosts also made us very welcome and accommodating.
What a lovely, cozy inn. Ronelle is an excellent cook and we really enjoyed Chris' anecdotes. Beautiful nature and mountains round off the picture.
Quality and presentation of food are particularly good.
Was really nice to engage with the owners Chris and Ronell. They went out of their way to make our stay memorable.
The owners were very sweet. The place is clean and beautiful. I will definitely go back there.
Beautiful location, well equipped, stunning place.
Lovely setting, great hosts, amazing food, awesome accommodation!
Thank you very much Chris and Ronelle we had a great time. Your hospitality was wonderful.
Eating watermelon on the porch with the owners and chatting while looking down the gorge was heavenly.
If you think I'm raving about Ronelle and family being the most gracious, caring and professional, you right. Various times our broader family have stayed at this serene getaway and never been disappointed. I can only say thank you very much.
Ronelle is a wonderful hostess who, together with Chris, her storyteller husband, runs the loveliest place to stay here. The cottage and room that we booked are nicely furnished with everything one needs. The dining/visiting/barbecuing area is delightfully cozy and adds a lot of value. Springboks that graze right here against the homestead and the incredible mountains around you immediately make you feel close to nature. The food that Ronelle and her sister Zelda served us was gourmet standard. Ronelle's attention constantly makes you feel extra special. I unreservedly recommend Hide Inn to any person looking for a place to stay in this world. My only regret is that we only booked one night here, but we will definitely come again.
From hello to cow bay, the visit with Chris and Ronel was one long delight!
Thank you Chris and Ronelle for an exceptional stay. Your hospitality was infectious. We enjoyed it immensely.
Ronelle has a way of making one feel totally at home. Always available but not in your face. Food and service great. Spotless facilities. I've been back 3 times.
Thanks to Ronelle and Zelda for their kindness and the delicious and affordable food. We could calmly walk around the farm and enjoy the beautiful nature.
We really enjoyed the overnight stay at Verberg Herberg and had a nice time with the owners.
Ronelle received us kindly, told us everything we needed and showed us our rooms. Everything was great, clean and tidy and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit there. Will definitely spend the night there again, now we need accommodation in that area again.
Puik ligging. Vriendelike mense. Mooi omgewing.
We have stayed at Verberg a few times, would recommend Verberg anytime. Wonderfully peaceful, everything you need, housing is very comfortable and tidy!
The rooms were lovely clean and tidy - we slept wonderfully warm even though it was a bitterly cold weekend. The owner is someone who makes you feel immediately at home, and the living area with the fireplace was the icing on the cake.
Where the size of the rooms may fall a little short, it is made up for by the very nice restaurant area with built-in fireplace. The owner makes your visit very special and goes out of her way to look after her guests.
A dinky yet upmarket cottage with everything a couple will need for a sublime and private self-catering stopover en route to or from the Baviaanskloof.
Place was nice and clean, with freshly baked cookies waiting for us on our arrival. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and go again.
Location is fantastic and hospitality top notch. Can recommend it to anyone.
The cottage was very neat and clean and well furnished, with a private entrance and porch. The children really enjoyed the animals and lawn!
This is a really great accommodation to book if you want to get away from it all! The houses are neat and comfortable. The host and hostess went out of their way to make our weekend a very enjoyable one! There are sheep, goats, chickens, dogs and a donkey which provided hours of entertainment for our boy! There is also a restaurant and bar on site if you don't want to cook for yourself. I will definitely stay here again!
It was a great 3 day stay... if we could we would have stayed a week longer! Chris and Ronel are fantastic hosts, so friendly and spontaneous... you feel like old family friends! Beautiful green lawns, trampoline for children, trees to climb, sheep, goats, Klonkie the donkey (waiting for his roots) and chickens which was a highlight for our 2 year old to get eggs! Even the fantastic rugby match between Springboks and All Blacks was enjoyed in the Roadhouse (even the Boks' victory!). Thank you very much Chris and Ronel (and your sister) for a wonderful stay! Soon we will be there again!
Very friendly and excellent hospitality.
Ronelle was a most gracious host. So sorry we could not spend more time. I have no hesitancy in recommending Verberg Herberg.
Verberg Herberg is close to Baviaanskloof's entrance on Willowmore's side. The owner was very kind, friendly and helpful and made delicious food for us.
Staff are friendly as well as all the farm animals and dogs! Cozy little house.
The owners of this beautiful place made our visit there so comfortable. It was our second time staying there, we will definitely come again. Clean tidy accommodation, beautiful view is all one needs.
Beautiful clean chalet, very nice hostess and host who are available all the time and had a great chat and visit and greeted with a Wimpy breakfast!
Clean, tidy cottage with everything you need. We had a wonderful stay and were kindly welcomed.
Comfortable unit, well equipped. Very kindly received by Ronelle who showed us around the site. Enjoyed the quiet of a farm and also the rooster crow!
We have spent the night at Verberg Herberg a few times on our way to Cape Town. Wonderfully peaceful and quiet, see the most beautiful stars in the sky, comfortable accommodation and friendliness of the hostess as only in the Karoo. Would recommend Verberg to travelers!
If you arrive early, you can ride the Nuwekloof Pass in Baviaanskloof. It's close to Verberg Inn and breathtaking! Thank you very much for the delicious food and cozy visit with you, Ronelle!
Hide is one of those hidden diamonds. 20 km dirt road from the main road and you come across this beautiful oasis. Upon disembarking we immediately felt welcome. A real farm feeling with the silence and the natural beauty right around you. The room was just right, and so was the evening's barbecue. Breakfast was a feast. We can't wait to stay again.
Very pleasant experience and would recommend. Only criticism I have is that the directions are not very clear. I don't know if I just missed it, but it would help a lot if it says on the website that you have to take the first Baviaanskloof exit to Willowmore and then drive about plus or minus 20 km of dirt road and then it will be on your right. The dirt road is in excellent condition, we drove it with a Golf just after all the storms and we encountered no problems.
Everything about Hide Inn is perfect. Unfortunately, the dirt roads through the Baviaanskloof were bad corrugated iron. But the Inn itself meets all the requirements. The restaurant served delicious meals, by a log fire in the cold - ideal. The farm is interesting and offers many hiking trails. The two hostesses are friendly and very competent. We bought delicious biltong and dry sausage and a fruit cake - fantastic!
The room and bathroom were neat and clean. There are braai facilities for the use of guests. The breakfast was excellent.
Braai facilities could be better called.
A quirky eclectic roadside attraction near the Baviaanskloof. Great supper! So many stars on a clear night!
Chris and Ronelle are hospitable people. We will definitely stay at Verberg Herberg again.
A lot in life in guesthouses, hotels overnight - never experienced such hospitality and service.
We were super happy with everything about this location and most of all the absolute attention to detail when it came to the meals. Ronel and Chris are the perfect hosts and joined us for supper. We learnt a lot about them and the reasons they decided to move to this remote location. What a pity we only booked one night.
What a pleasant visit with very pleasant people. Really worth a detour and a stop even if you're not slacking off. Really caters for everything.
We were so kindly received, nothing was too much trouble. Very nice and quiet environment. Could watch the Bokke in front of the fireplace and enjoy a lovely meal. Thank you very much. Will definitely come again.
Lovely quiet environment between the mountains. Accommodation is beautifully clean and tidy with friendly people.
One of the nicest places to spend the night before you enter the Bavian. Chris and Ronel make you feel at home. If you drive here, you have new friends. The rooms are nice and clean and the hamburger and chips on the menu are a must.
We had a great stay and Ronelle was so warm and welcoming that we had all we needed for a lovely time.
Our second time staying at Verberg and we will be back again and again hopefully. The owners, Chris and Ronelle are so lovely, hospitable and we loved listening to Chris's very funny stories. Loved the new cottage and additions.
The 18 km gravel road to this gem was in good condition - a road into the sticks, but upon arrival a little oasis with everything you need and more, beautiful, comfortable, refreshing!
We were kindly received. Ronelle and Chris went out of their way to make it as comfortable and enjoyable as possible for us. We will and would love to visit again. Room was clean and tidy. Water pressure in shower is sufficient. Enjoy a delicious breakfast.
Enjoyed it very much, nice and relaxing and pleasant owners.
Loved every second of the stay. We were welcomed like family. I would recommend this to someone who wants to get out of the city.
Everything is perfect. Most hospitable people under the sun. What you see in the picture is what you get.
Stayed over with my dad and grandma. Lovely atmosphere and phenomenal standard of excellence. It was lovely staying over!
So nice to sleep in a place where security has not become a problem like in the rest of SA. The 7 or so friendly, but alert, dogs probably help too! Children can ride bikes everywhere. It is a very beautiful environment after the long drive through the Karoo. One always has the mountains in sight. Neat accommodation. Quiet and dark in the evening. The turn off (last 18 km) is a nice dirt road, suitable even for a flat car. It was the ideal stopover for us on our way to the Garden Route via Prince Alfred Pass, but we actually would have liked to stay longer.
Extremely neat. Very friendly. Dinner was of exceptional quality and very tasty. Attention is paid to detail.
We were very well looked after by a friendly family and their adorable animals. Very comfortable and well-resourced facilities and one of the more delicious baboties we have tasted in ages. We loved it here.
Beautiful farm and the facilities are exquisite, the hospitality exceptional. I can wholeheartedly recommend this accommodation.
Was definitely worth it. Most beautiful nature and everything was comfortable, clean and pretty. Most delicious food and wonderful host.
Our accommodation was a room with a double bed, as well as the self-catering unit. We are very impressed with the cleanliness and quality of the accommodation. The room and the unit are excellently equipped with everything needed for an overnight stay. The immediate availability of hot water in the shower at a satisfactory water pressure was certainly a pleasant surprise! Ronelle's kindness and hospitality are greatly appreciated, her willingness to make us a home-baked bread and a salad for our barbecue rounded off our visit perfectly. Thank you very much again!
We really enjoyed it. The place was very neat and comfortable. The bed was fantastic and slept comfortably. Definitely the best stay we've ever had. Had a nice braai and enjoyed the quiet of the Karoo night, and took walks for exercise.
It was unbelievably pretty, quiet and the accommodation was perfect. The people are very friendly and no complaint with the booking. We missed the snow by a week.
Ronel and Chris, thank you for the wonderful getaway and hospitality. We hope to see you again next year!
Verberg Herberg was very comfortable with everything one needs for your stay.
See stars.
Very friendly reception by Ronel and Chris. Enjoyed the meals, our time together that night (book in advance) and full breakfast. Great to drive to Steytlerville on the gravel road from there. Can really recommend it.
We had an incredibly nice stay. Hospitality was top notch!
Accommodation: the 2 units our family stayed in were adjoining with a shared verandah area overlooking the beautiful landscape. The units are extremely stylishly furnished with the most beautiful wooden furniture and good quality linen and towels. Everything is spotless and feels brand new. Everything needed is in the units, including crockery for if you want to barbecue. Dinner: our family hasn't eaten so well in a long time. We booked the meal in advance and were amazed with the meal that was so well served. The bobotie was served with yellow rice, lip-smacking sweet pumpkin, broccoli with a delicious cheese sauce, mixed salad and baked potatoes (R75). Pudding was the real Jakob, saucy marshmallow pudding with custard (R15). We could create as much as we wanted (and believe me, our family put away a lot!). The food was absolutely fantastic! It's true value for money. Remember to bring your own wine. My family is already trying to make plans for a next visit! Reception: Ronell responded quickly to every email and was easy to communicate with. She was so friendly and hospitable and made us feel very welcome. The farm is safe and beautiful. Extra: on the farm is a butchery where delicious sausage and biltong/dried sausage can be bought very cheaply. Especially the sausage is a winner! Hide Hostel gets full marks!
My wife and I spent one night at Verberg Herberg during our motorcycle trip. The surroundings are picturesque and the rooms are clean and tidy. The owners are very hospitable and we immediately felt at home. We just hung out with them that evening. We would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend Verberg Herberg.
Very neat rooms with attention to detail; hospitality from Ronelle and Chris was exceptional, with delicious dinner and breakfast; can recommend Verberg with confidence. They are busy with further expansions such as a large gathering place for guests which will only improve the stay there even further.
Hospitality was unbeatable and the environment quiet. Definitely worth the visit and for sure on my list for a second visit.
The rooms are neat and clean with a microwave, kettle and fridge. The cupboard is stocked with all cutlery needed, even wine glasses! Ronel and Chris' hospitality is excellent and the food is of the same standard.
Stay was fantastic. Room lacked nothing. Meal was very nice.
It was the second time we stayed at Verberg Herberg on the way to Cape Town. Had a great time last time with nice, hospitable people who catered to all our needs. We then immediately decided to spend the night at Verberg again during our recent visit to the Overberg for a getaway short holiday. We would recommend Hide anytime!
Extremely neat. Very friendly reception. Dinner was special. Neatly continued and tasty. The natural beauty and tranquility can easily make you forget all your worries.
The owners of Verberg Herberg were the most friendly and heartwarming people I have ever met and they made the most delicious food at very reasonable rates!
Verberg Herberg is beautiful! I really enjoyed my stay. The room was lovely and clean. The farm is located in a stunning area and the road to the farm is in excellent condition. Ronelle is so friendly and helpful and made me feel right at home. Thank you. Hope to visit again soon.
Verberg Herberg is a real inn very close to the Baviaanskloof to stay at on the way in or out. The accommodation, well equipped units, braai area and hospitality and conversation from Ronel and Christo made us feel very much at home. Despite the drought, the garden and lawn are in great and well-kept condition. Ronel's breakfast was off the books. We can definitely recommend Verberg Herberg for couples or groups who want to get away from the city for silence, delicious gatherings or functions in their great braai lapa. Thank you very much for your hospitality. We will definitely visit again.
Lovely spot with great hosts. Order dinner early if you are not self-catering and also bring your own food as the shops are quite a drive from the farm.
Verberg is the ideal overnight stop before tackling the Baviaanskloof. Top notch breakfast. Very peaceful farm environment. Clean and tidy. Definitely recommendable.
Very nice peaceful place. Nice rooms and lawn. Owners very friendly and helpful. Was very cute with my little girl and she really enjoyed their animals. Would recommend the place to anyone. Will visit them again. Thank you.
Ronel and her welcoming committee immediately made you feel at home. A nice hostess who took care of everything. Nothing was lacking. Worth driving 18 km just to find a canopy of greenery, beauty and cleanliness. Definitely recommend after a long day of travel.
We were warmly received by Ronel. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. The dinner was excellent. I can recommend this guest house with the utmost confidence.
It is good value for money, very nice and clean and the service delivery is excellent.
See stars.
The people are friendly and extremely hospitable! The breakfast is particularly delicious and the view is breathtaking. Really worth the money and a great place to relax!
Easily accessible, good road. Friendly reception, extremely neat and practical. The food is homemade from a book. Thank you, very special.
With your arrival you can see that attention has been paid to the smaller details. The room was clean and spacious. Everything you will need is enough, enough two-point power points to reload everything that your heart desires, delicious braai area, tranquility and two friendly and helpful hosts. What a pleasure to recharge underneath the Karoo stars and knowing a comfortable bed is waiting for you. Nothing is left out in the breakfast. Be warned that there is no cellphone reception, but that's why you go: for peace and quiet.
The location, facilities, service and friendliness were just superb!
Strolled with the Border Collies accompanying us. Lovely mountain. Friendly owners.
I would give them 6 out of 5 stars. We arrived a day early and they went out of their way to accommodate us. Sorry we couldn't stay another night, but we will visit again.
Friendly hospitable people who immediately made us feel at home! Neat accommodation and beautiful quiet surroundings!
This guest house provides everything the discerning guest can expect. The rural farm atmosphere and silence make it even more enjoyable. Ronelle Pretorius is a hostess of a thousand.
At short notice we are warmly welcomed. The cold weather was forgotten with the braai area on the stoep, hot shower and electric blanket in a cosy bed. Thank you also for your hospitality and service at breakfast. We had a nice chat with you. The best choice for overnight accommodation and to start our holiday.
Just one big treat, from arrival to departure.
Arrived late in the afternoon and was kindly helped and catered for all our needs. The hospitality and friendliness of the Pretorius couple as well as the delicious breakfast was unimaginable. Will stay there again.
We were very impressed with the beautifully appointed self-catering house with all the little luxuries such as a hair-dryer. Chris and Ronelle are caring hosts and they made us feel at home. We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the farm so much, excellent base if you want to explore the Baviaanskloof. Ronnelle makes a delicous breakfast is something to write home about. We definitely recommend Verberg and we hope to be back some day. Blessings.
The hosts are extremely friendly and accommodating. The room and bedding beautifully clean. The dinner and breakfast are delicious. We felt right at home and enjoyed ourselves in a beautiful rural setting. Good value for money.
The 4 of us had a great time in the "pond barbecue". The owners are very friendly people and we got the most delicious breakfast the next morning. They didn't mind getting up early to make breakfast for us at 7 o'clock, because we wanted to tackle the Baboons early. Beautiful accommodation, neat and clean. Coffee, tea, milk and a lovely hot shower. Will definitely visit again and then steal that little woolly dog for me.
Highly recommended due to hospitality and friendly service.
We strongly recommend Verberg. It is value for money. Friendly, hospitable welcoming from Ronel and Chris. Their place is beautiful, neat and clean. We also had a lovely breakfast. Thank you, we'll stay here again.
Already when we got close to Verberg Herberg we were greeted by the most scenic mountains. Thereafter we received a warm welcome by J.J. We slept peacefully in a beautiful chalet that offers everything, and the next morning's breakfast that was served in the chalet was absolutely divine. Thank you J.J., we really enjoyed it!
When we arrived we were welcomed at our vehicle and we felt at home immediately. The self-catering unit is fully equipped, clean, and private. Chris made sure that there was enough wood for a wonderful Karoo braai. There is also communal braai facilities for the guests who stay in the other four units, if prefered. Ronel's breakfast was divine, prepared with fresh produce from her own garden. Guests can also arrange dinner, it is delicious. If you want to go for a nice hike there is a koppie behind the house, ideal for sunsets. They area converting the dam to a lapa / braai area at the moment with a place to swim ajacent. Willowmore is only 30 kilometres away and the Baviaans Route is just a little way down the gravel road. Verberg Herberg is an ideal overnight sot for people travelling between Gauteng and Cape Town or who needs a getaway to relax, and to listen toe the quiet and look at the stars.
See stars.
We had a great time and stay! The service provided was very very good and thank you very much for your guest farm. We will definitely stay there again and also recommend.
Had a comfortable stay for one night. Chris and Ronelle are very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate us. We had a delicious dinner and breakfast. Thank you very much.
We really enjoyed it. Friendly reception and everything was ready for us. Lovely braai-area and beautiful surroundings.
Great overnight facility, peaceful surroundings. Dirt road very reasonable. Delicious breakfast.
Super clean, great breakfast, good farmer hospitality. Very good value for money.
It is definitely worth turning off and driving the dirt road to the farm. Very friendly reception, excellent accommodation and a delicious dinner with good company. Pet friendly and an overnight stay I would use again.
We were so impressed with Verberg's cleanliness, facilities and service. It is located on a farm and the overnight and braai facilities are good. The place is nicely renovated and equipped, with a beautiful view of the surroundings. The breakfast is exquisite and is very good value for your money. Ronel as the co-owner and hostess, keeps her finger on the pulse. There is an electric blanket for the cold evenings and Chris (co-owner) is not stingy at all with his dry chopped braai wood. I would definitely stay at Verberg again, just remember your slippers.
This is the perfect place to spend the night on your way somewhere. With only the essentials in the room, one has to plan ahead, but the silence, stars and fresh Karoo air are ideal for relaxing. The dirt road is one of the best I've seen and Ronelle goes out of her way to make you feel welcome.
Ronel and Chris have created a lovely overnight stay in the Karoo. They are very friendly and hospitable. The rooms are clean, comfortable and well equipped for us as overnight travelers. We enjoyed the silence of the Karoo and after a good night's rest Ronel served a delicious breakfast. The guest house is 18 km from the main road on a fairly good dirt road. We towed a Jurgens Penta caravan but found a lot of dust in the caravan. We will definitely spend the night at Verberg again, but probably not when we are towing a caravan.
I can only speak highly of the place. The owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Except for a bit of a musty smell because the unit must have been sitting there for a long time, the unit was outstanding. The owner exceeded expectations and, for example, provided extra wood to make it convenient for us to enjoy nature around a fire. The breakfast the next morning was also really top notch. Thanks again to Chris and Ronelle. Will recommend you to all my friends and family.
After initially thinking we had missed the turn off road, we were pleasantly surprised to find this little gem among the heads in the Karroo! Chris and Ronelle are a wonderful couple who developed this gem. A bit far for us for a weekend visit but if you want to rest this is the right place.
We had a nice stay. Hospitality makes you feel at home and they offer the most delicious farm breakfast. Wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you very much.
Indescribably beautiful, feel at home and very friendly owners. Thank you.
Neat, stylish, well equipped units in a beautiful, tranquil environment. Will stay longer next time to really make the most of the surroundings. Chris and Ronelle, thank you for your hospitality.
Chris and Ronel are friendly, beautiful people and really showered us with hospitality and we felt at home. Rooms were clean as a whistle. Had the most delicious breakfast and we can really recommend this lovely Inn to anyone. Quiet area in the mountains, peaceful and beautiful scenery. We would definitely stopover again and even stay for a longer period of time. Highly recommendable.
Well located close to the Baviaanskloof. Very tasteful, beautiful, clean with hospitable owners. Would stay here again and recommend it to others.
Verberg Herberg is a beautiful place and has the loveliest rooms where everything has been carefully picked out. Ronelle and her husband are very hospitable and went out of their way to make sure we had a lovely stay. Her food are of the best we have ever eaten and she went out of her way to make our anniversary special. Will definitely recommend it!
Chris and Ronelle are two very pleasant people. It was very nice to be able to visit them there. Would definitely stay there again for a night or two. Ten out of ten for your hospitality!
Please see my rating.
Absolute value for money. 10 out of 10. It's a place we will definitely go back to again and again and again.
Would definitely recommend to any type of traveler!
Fantastic service, very neat and clean. Would really recommend and go back again.
Please see the stars.
Hospitality was the highlight! Decor and breakfast of excellent quality. Thank you very much for the oasis in the Karoo! Ideal overnight stop for those who want to see the Baviaanskloof. Highly recommended!
