Self-catering unit nr 2 was beautiful, modern and well equipped with a beautiful view from the top floor. Great quality bedding and towels and comfortable beds. The only addition I would make is some heating for the top floor (kitchen/lounge area).

When we arrived, we informed the lady that the toilet was broken and not flushing. She couldn't get the toilet right and you had to remove the bowl if you wanted to flush the toilet. It was unpleasant. For the price one pays, I expect there should be a proper shower head in the shower. The pillow is tiny with such a small TV. We were also told that they have water restriction and we can only use a little water (the stuff I feel should be told ahead of time, then I will book in another place). We also couldn't log into the WiFi, it wasn't available. The lady was kind.

The perfect place to spend a night if you are breaking up the trip between the Western Cape and Johannesburg. The unit had everything we needed and the hosts were wonderful. The restaurant at Quest Petrol Garage delivers but a visit to the actual restaurant is highly recommended!

Very pleasant welcome and place is safe and tidy and in a quiet area. Water is their biggest problem in the area as we understand from everyone in town. We did not experience any water problems during our stay.

It is self-catering as we preferred, but facilities not so arranged. Fridge is too small. Nothing to put in salad or side dishes. Yes, a braai for grilling outside, but no braai tongs or bowls available to put fried meat in. WiFi was also very weak.

The self-catering unit is particularly neat, spacious and has everything you need after a long day's travel. The view over the Gariep is unbeatable and we were pleasantly surprised with the quality coffee and the coffee press allowed us to enjoy a decent cup of coffee the next morning. We ordered takeaway dinner and it was great to be able to enjoy quick, quality food after a long day of driving. I will definitely be back and recommend View Lodge.

It is such a beautiful and neat stopover destination between Pretoria and the Garden Route. The rooms are particularly neat, have great air conditioning and the most beautiful dam view from the room and veranda. Rarely do you see the pond so full, it was quite an exceptional sight. Nice overnight facilities, the only complaint is that the TV is hopelessly installed too high. You can't relax after a long journey, because the cushions on one sofa are rock hard and the cushions on the sofa are set so flat in front of you to see the tall TV that you keep sliding down. Spacious, clean and tidy accommodation in a large apartment that sleeps 4 people. All kitchen facilities available for self-catering. Good view of the dam and very close to the dam wall. However, the village itself is sad and a sign of the economic decay of our countryside.

We woke up to no water when we needed to depart and shower for the rest of our journey. The size of the patio was tiny, the "2nd bedroom" was in the open plan kitchen. We felt it was not value for money.

View Lodge literally and visually stands out in the area. The reception was comfortable and we were in the rooms in no time. With air conditioning in every room, View Lodge is comfortable on the hottest summer days. With options for braai by the two swimming pools or a gas braai on the balcony, it was a pleasant stay for us for the one night.

On arrival welcomed and given everything. Very convenient stop between Cape and Gauteng and usually used the hotel but that will be our new destination. Even though there is one bathroom, the second toilet makes everything easier. Unfortunately had to miss the breakfast but smelled very nice when we drove.

View Lodge is not a place where you want to stay more than one night especially if you are in the hotel type room units. However, the unit offers everything you will need for one night. The shower inside the bedroom of hotel type unit is a bit of an inconvenience, but is not a big problem if you are only staying for one night.
The rate charged for the facilities offered by the luxury unit is exorbitant in my opinion. Unit 6 is quite hidden. Add to that the extremely small bathroom, especially the shower, then it creates the impression that the entire facility is the result of the conversion of a storage room.
We paid for the "Luxury" suite. The toilet didn't work, and we reported it. Jeff was trying to fix it. When we tried to use the toilet again, we still realised it wasn't working. We reported it again but this time Jeff said he couldn't help because he wasn't on the premises. It was about 8 o'clock on a Saturday night. He did not offer to make a plan to ensure that we had a working toilet. We also booked for breakfast with Jeff, about an hour after our arrival he came again to ask if we would like breakfast, because he said he could not remember if we had booked. View Lodge and Jeff's service was incredibly poor and in my opinion not worth a cent of the money we paid. They should repay our money. We will never stay there again.
I doubt I'll ever stay anywhere else if I'm travelling to the Cape. The owners are such kind and wonderful people and make you feel right at home. And as before, the rooms were spotless and the bed was very comfortable. A good night's sleep is very important to me when you have to drive far distances the next day.

The reception was friendly and professional. The place looks exactly as advertised and has a very nice view of the dam. There are little extras like the rusk and the shower goodies among others that just made it extra special. The air conditioning is also very good, especially while it was so hot. The shower was just a plus point. Definitely worth every penny and more.

View Lodge was a very convenient, safe and comfortable overnight stop for us not too far from the N1 between Cape and JHB. Thank you for everything, you will surely see us again.
Webtuiste's photo gives the impression of unobstructed views. However, from rooms it is limited. However, the room was a bit cramped even though it was clean and tidy. Kitchen is very small with no cooking facilities apart from microwave oven. No sink, so can't be used to prepare own meal though.
Having stayed at A'damsview Guest House in Gariep a few nights before, we were very disappointed in View Lodge. The room was indeed clean and tidy, but extremely cramped. The shower and sink are plugged into the room right next to the bed without any partition which is extremely inconvenient. The shower also did not have a shower head with the result that the water sprayed everywhere. Because of the layout of rooms, it was also very noisy and one could not sleep peacefully. There are also only about 4 or 5 TV channels in total. We will not spend the night there again if we sleep over in Gariep.

Sarian is a busy little person who gives everything to keep us guests happy. From beginning to end she was everywhere in the kitchen, at reception, her helpfulness, and her hand in the flat's finishing and cleanliness. We have no complaints and had a lovely stay with a smile on our faces. Now we have a new overnight stay (or 2) if we need rest along way! Excellent breakfast! The website is a bit misleading regarding restaurants available for dinner. We arrived on Sunday afternoon and only Forever Resorts was open. The kitchen doesn't stay open late. Guest arriving late won't have any place to eat.

Professional service with the right balance between home feeling and privacy. We were warmly received and afterwards were able to nestle ourselves in a lovely unit with a balcony, overlooking the pond. The day was extremely hot, but the two air conditioners worked very effectively! After exploring the area, we were also able to cool off in the pool and use the guest house's bar (which was very reasonable!) This is the best place to stay at the Gariep Dam for sure!

The luxurious room was beautiful and neat and next to the swimming pool. The guests at the swimming pool do invade on your privacy and the lack of a block-out curtain in front of the sliding door with the outdoor lights shining all night also disturbs your sleep.

We didn't spend much time there, just slept over, but the accommodation was very nice, incredible view of Gariep Dam, tidy and very good security.
Upon our arrival the reception was poor. Our unit was tidy and beautifully clean. However, the lady who was supposed to take us to our unit was very absent and curt. Soon came for a visit and never saw again. When we left she was also missing in action and mobile only occupied. Quite disappointing after a very long, difficult journey, but the stay was lovely and beautiful and made up for everything.

I would really recommend them to anyone who wants to spend the night in the Gariep.

The reception was very good, my car was covered and locked, the room was very clean and well laid out, my view of the dam was beautiful. The bed's mattress was still wonderfully firm and straight so we could sleep well.

The unit had lovely fresh linen/bedding. Provision is made for all weather conditions through air conditioning and electric blankets. Rooms have lovely built-in wardrobes for those who want to stay here for a few days. Upper floor, with sitting area and kitchenette, is well furnished and has a beautiful view. Attention is paid to detail, which makes one's stay very pleasant.

"Amenities" available, as well as bottled water. Have used this guest house before, and will again.

What a wonderful privilege and experience to be received so friendly and helpful after 7 hours on the road from Pretoria! Everything was fine and ready for our stay. View Lodge lives up to its name in providing a fantastic view of the dam. We found it a good place to overnight on our way back from the Cape as well as a place of interest which no doubt can be considered to be a tourist attraction of note. We found the View Lodge accommodation to be adequate, clean, neat, with friendly people. We also enjoyed a hearty inexpensive breakfast.
Just a suggestion that they heat the plates from the breakfast. By the time breakfast was served, the food was cold. Receptionist was very friendly, we immediately felt at home. View Lodge reflects love and homeliness.

Thank you, the accommodation was great and we enjoyed it. We were 2 married couples on our way to the Cape. We spent the night in room 4 on the top floor and room 6 on the ground floor which opened onto the pool (so-called honeymoon suite). It was very hot and we used the pool. What I found very annoying was after about 15 mins in the water two teenagers on bikes who were not guests were allowed in to use the pool! Which then made us decide not to swim any further. They spent the rest of the afternoon there! Privacy of the room was also gone with it. Thank you very much for great service from LekkeSlaap. The first time I used you guys! Will definitely do it again now that I am retired after 40 years in the travel industry. May 2017 be a wonderful year for you.

Our unit was lovely big with a beautiful view of the dam from the top floor. There is air conditioning to keep you cool and the unit is lovely clean. The living room furniture could have been a bit more comfortable and modern to match the rest of the unit. The prices on the website are not what you are quoted. Our first quote was double the amount advertised and when I complained it was reduced; but was still R300 higher than advertised. It's not really value for money, especially considering the location.

We chose View Lodge for a one night stopover on our way back to Cape Town and would definitely recommend it as a choice for accommodation. The place is equipped with everything one needs for one night, or even more. Comfortable and clean and good location with a beautiful view of the dam. I really enjoyed the filter coffee! If I could suggest one thing it would be to place the television at eye level instead, as being high up on the wall reduces one's vision as well as causing discomfort in the neck. The breakfast (optional) the next morning at a reasonable price was delicious and good energy for the long road ahead. We will definitely use View Lodge again.

Each unit features a microwave, a fridge and tea- and coffee-making facilities.
Although breakfast is not included, the host can recommend a few restaurants in and around Gariep Dam. There are 3 units with their own portable braai facilities on the balcony, a communal braai area on the deck that also offers 180-degree views of the Gariep Dam and a swimming pool. Free Wi-Fi internet access and secure parking are provided for the duration of their stay. The premises are under 24-hour surveillance for added peace of mind.
