It was very cold and the room is so well equipped against the cold, air conditioner, winter sheets, warm bedding. Biscuits, muffins and coffee, fresh milk and water. After forty years of married life and almost 65 years of living on this third planet from the sun, the gods finally smiled on my wife and I and granted us the privilege of being with Edith (one of the most genuine souls to ever grace this earth walked) and allowed to spend the night at her Jack Russels guest house. Excellent Karoo memories dinner, prepared with deep and sincere love by Edith herself, lovely conversation with Edith herself and a cozy warm bed made us believe again that genuine hospitality and unadorned honesty and openness are still to be found. We salute Edith! We will, e.g. from now on always stay the night with her when we are on our way to Mossel Bay again.

Decor and theme very good - surprising!
It's a very nice place with lovely decor. The hostess is lovely and greeted us when we drove in and when we left. It's well furnished with everything you need. Unfortunately it wasn't very clean (old dog food on the floor/bath wasn't very clean/toys from previous guests) and the pillows were hard. The bath water was also cold/lukewarm, even though I gave the geyser 3 hours to warm up after loadshedding. We expected a little more.
We loved the look and feel of Villa Contessa however we were disappointed in the cleanliness of our room.
The rooms are nice and big and very neat. Dinner was delicious and a great treat. Our hostess very friendly and the garden beautiful. Will stay there again!

Due to Covid I had to change my booking dates a few times, Edith was very accommodating and helpful. The friendly reception and chats were a bonus on top of an incredibly unique guest house. The detail in each room as well as her entire guest house speaks of good taste, artistry and warmth. It was truly one of the very best stay experiences I've had. I stayed 3 nights. Thank you Edith, you and your place get a 10 out of 10 from me!

Villa Contessa was a beautiful guest house that created a very comfortable and wonderful atmosphere. We arrived late in the evening and were received with passion and happiness and happily a nice dinner was prepared for us. We slept very comfortably and the next morning were refreshed and ready for the journey ahead.

Dinner overpriced, owner unexpectedly (not invited) joined us at dinner along with her dogs, her food was really overpriced and not nice, meat tough etc. We had cold shower, candle supplied, however no means to light it (we had loadshedding). Lighting in the bedroom inadequate, no windows in room. In general not a great stay at all, will not stay there again.
After travelling for 12 hours we arrived early evening. Once we were shown our room, we were effectively locked into the premises with no way of leaving to get an evening meal. The owner has left and the man who showed us in was nowhere to be found. I did phone the owner and left a message asking how we could get out, but received no reply. There were 2 tea bags, frozen milk and 1 bottle of frozen water and some rusk crumbs in a canister. The room was cold and the air con/heater didn't work - other than to make the room colder. We were so glad to leave early the next morning and based on our very poor experience, more than happy to skip breakfast.
We ate damn well and enjoyed every second of the treat!

A cup of coffee after a few hundred kilometers is just what the soul needs. Not only is the owner friendly, but the dogs as well. We slept and ate well.
