166 guests' feedbackYes nice - except that if water is used in the middle of the night, the pipes are noisy.
We were very kindly welcomed by the host, even though we only got there very late in the evening. Our room was very clean and tidy. There was nothing we lacked. The guest house is perfectly located for people who just want to get off the main road at Harrismith and get to their destination straight away. The places to eat are also a stone's throw from there. Thank you very much for a nice experience.
Very clean and tidy. Staff was very friendly.
Very nice stopover for half the way to the South Coast for us. Very clean and safe. We slept really well after the long drive. The WiFi was exceptionally fast and I was able to get to work straight away.
The only thing I would highly recommend is to have a room that has a ramp for a person with disabilities ie. a wheelchair walker. The existing walk-in showers work.
Very nice, clean and tidy stay!
Ideal overnight facilities.
Nice overnight place, safe and comfortable with good service.
I booked a self-catering unit, no fridge, stove, microwave or anything. There was only a kettle. Will never book there again.
I made the booking on behalf of someone needing an overnight stay en route. My rating is according to his feedback.
The lodge is more for reps/truckers etc than for couples. Very close to the highway and very noisy with people booking in very late at night making noise. It is ok for a quick stop over on your way down to Durban.
Very friendly and professional receptionist, remembering me from previous visits. Room was neat and tidy, as if in top-star resort.
Value for money, clean accommodation and easily accessible.
Value for money and excellent service as always.
For a quick overnight stop it was fine.
Very clean and tidy room with en suite shower. Would recommend that a small fridge be provided. Otherwise very cute place for overnight.
The notion of safe parking was helpful, given that the area is generally unsafe. The amenities/facilities provided was in line with what was advertised. Customer service can improve, but was still fair. Provision of WiFi services for multiple devices and access to a microwave oven will improve future experience. Overall experience was fair to good.
No electricity, no water and no generator and I was told I am welcome to go.
Value for money, neat and clean. Friendly staff.
The Village Lodge is very simply furnished, but has everything needed for an overnight stay on the way to a destination.
Fresh, clean and tidy.
The room was neat and met all requirements. There is no air conditioning, but it didn't bother me. For those purposes it was a good experience. Everything was in place, neat and the brick wall looks very modern. An option would be to provide extra coffee and milk in the room. There was not enough provision for 2 people for an evening cup of coffee and then a morning cup of coffee. It's not the worst, we bought milk and provided coffee ourselves but it would have been convenient if we didn't have to plan ourselves. Service was friendly and good and all amenities up to standard.
Very well maintained, good security. Slept well.
See stars.
Unit was clean and tidy.
The place is very clean.
See stars.
Photos on website very misleading.
I would say it has a lot of potential but is currently only offered as an overnight facility.
Value for money. Very nice.
Facility was clean, tidy and service was good. The room was not like the picture. We paid for a room with a double bed but received a room with single beds. No correction was made. Disappointing in that respect.
Impossible to sleep. Freeway noise makes it very difficult.
Professioneel, huislik, nice.
The lodge is very close to the Snale Road and is easily reached. It is safe and the receptionist was extremely friendly. The room was comfortable and fresh and clean.
Very beautiful for overnight stay. Great.
Air conditioning might have been a nice option. Power of braai for those who want to braai.
My wife and I stayed here. Visited family at Drakensville all day.
We stayed overnight on our way to Umhlanga because we were traveling with small children. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Nothing short.
Our reception, by Nancy, was friendly and helpful. We booked two of the economy rooms. It is basically furnished, but clean and comfortable - adequate for short trips (one or two nights).
Arrived at 8 pm and received by host - wearing sweat pants and no shoes, rather unprofessional. Room was clean, linen was worn out. Two very old and tatty chairs in the room. Road noise is hectic. Overall, just okay for a quick overnight stay, nothing more.
Not worthy, won't go back.
Rude and poor service. Absolute minimum facilities for a overnight. 1 bed bending and close to collapse. No table.
We were received really kindly and the hostess made us feel very welcome. The residential unit is very neat and close to main routes.
Great for a quick stop over with late arrival and early check out. The rooms are extremely small.
Safe and convenient overnight stay.
Very neat and clean accommodation. Friendly service.
The reception was so call and collected and I was In my room within 5 minutes of driving through the gate. I forgot my expensive flask in my room, I received a call just 1 minute into my journey. I turned round and the receptionist was waiting at the gate with the flask, now that is service.
Friendly reception, very clean and neat.
I was received very kindly. The room was clean and tidy, the bedding clean and tidy, the bed comfortable. Tea and coffee available on a tray. The location couldn't be better for an overnight stay just off the N3. You can't expect more for the money and I would easily stay there again.
I had a great time. The place was awesome.
The perfect stopover halfway to Durban because we didn't want to be on the road for 6 to 7 hours. Clean, tidy and friendly service for a very good price.
There wasn't any breakfast or dinner available, even though I asked whether it is a B&B.
We were received very warmly. Place is simple, but very clean and tidy. Everything you need for an overnight stay!
Very neat and clean. Staff helpful.
Nothing was wrong, but for what we pay I believe they can upgrade to newer linens, including towels and at least it was like that occasionally with Staysoft too.
Village Lodge Harrismith is well located and convenient for an overnight stay.
The area is not very well lit, and was difficult to find in the evening.
Very nice and affordable accommodation.
The accommodation was very good, the main road is just too close that it kept us from sleeping a bit.
The rooms are neat and clean with the essential amenities, it's easy to reach. However, the noise of the night traffic on the N3 can be disturbing for a light sleeper.
Room very tidy, just a pity about the noise from all the vehicles on the N3. Village Lodge is unfortunately located very close to the main road.
Would have liked a fridge in the room and as it is self catering also a microwave with cutlery.
From the outside it doesn't look impressive at all. But the reception was good, the room clean and tidy but small. Privacy is not desirable, unless your curtains are closed everyone who walks by can see everything that goes on in your room.
Can't comment negatively except for the traffic noise from the main road, but you get used to it.
Very friendly reception. Plenty of parking behind a closed gate. Room is cozy and minimalist without a lot of annoying trinkets. Hair products available at shower. Extra blankets were available, but with the lovely cuddly duvet there was no need. I also stayed there last year and the beds are still so fantastic and I sleep incredibly well. The place is not luxurious, but has everything I prefer/need in overnight accommodation. Close to Bergville Onestop for meals.

No hanging or packing space. Even just a few hooks on the wall to hang things on would make a difference. Because it is very small, even the luggage that has to stand on the floor is a problem. It's hard for me to judge value for money, but for the rate paid, probably good. Bathroom light switch at the entrance of the room which is very uncomfortable. A bedside light will also make a big difference.
DStv: 2 of the 285 channels are there, no Afrikaans channels, but no KykNet 144 or 147. Not even RSG (Audio). The wall plug of the TV is on the ceiling, had to get on a chair to turn it on and off. The toilet got stuck after every use, had to lift the lid every time to push it down. Went to reception 4 times between 19:00 - 20:00, OFFICE OPEN, called but no one in sight.
Although I chose the economy room for 2, there was no indication anywhere that there is no table (only tray on stand), no place to hang clothes, luggage must be on the floor, only 2 coffee mugs and 2 teaspoons available which wash in the bathroom or you have to walk 30 meters to the communal kitchen. I really think that even if it's economy class any person who cares wants to hang their clothes. A pair of hooks can't cost that much. I didn't check out the other rooms, but with this one I'm extremely disappointed.
Disappointing, heater not effective. Not value for what was paid. No fridge for self-catering as advertised.
The room is very small, there is no storage space for suitcases, no wardrobes or bedside lights. Create an impression of cold and neglected. On arrival the office was unmanned.
We were 5 persons in 3 rooms. The one pair in the executive suite, could not relax due to the noise until 00:30 at night. The caretaker had family over in our one adjoining room, and there were children. They visited over and over all night, and made so much noise with the children, that we people could not sleep. We actually sleep over to rest instead of to drive 7 hours straight with the car, now we couldn't sleep anyway. Next time we might as well drive through to Pretoria. In the other room, the single person could not sleep either - there were contract workers around her room. All night long they were moving furniture around, slamming doors, banging and knocking on her door, shouting at each other, so that it was impossible to sleep. For sure we will never spend the night there again, you certainly don't get rest in it. I spent a total of R7000 on accommodation here, but will definitely never do it again! There are also no trash cans in the room, so do you have to walk out of the shower with your towel around your body to the trash can, or do you have to throw dirt on the floor and throw it in the big trash can later? What do they think is the most unsanitary solution. Last time we already complained because there are no trash cans in the rooms. The bathroom light was blown in my room - do they ever check the rooms before letting them out? No, let it go, the customer is definitely not important here. I would have gotten more rest if I had gone to sleep directly next to the highway!
The village seems more upgraded on the web, yet overall feel was that of "No safety" - will not visit again.
Very cute room. The slightly more luxurious units for just R100 more are much better.
The room was neat. We appreciated the DStv in the room. The bathroom now has a mirror in it.
The host were pleasant and helpful.
Clean and tidy, and safe.
Everything was fine and met all our needs! Friendly reception by Johan! Thank you very much!
Very lovely place, reasonable prices and value for money. Neat and within a lot of people's budget, also close to places to eat if you want to go buy something to eat. Thank you very much Johan, I had a wonderful stay.
Place was very clean and comfortable.
Johan, the caretaker, made us feel right at home and we slept wonderfully. Neat and clean.
For travellers in a hurry just looking for a clean, safe, comfortable overnight stay, this is ideal. Friendly service. Economical.
We could relax and got good service. Manager brings you "boere"-rusks and filled "vetkoek" for dinner. Never felt so spoiled.
Firstly we were warmly welcomed, then stayed in a clean, neat place that is well equipped before we hit the road again. Will stay there again anytime.
We were 5 adults and 1 baby sharing 3 double rooms for 1 night. On arrival we got a friendly welcome and all the necessary info was given. All 3 rooms have clean, neat showers, and there is a kettle and coffee in the room. The kitchen was made available for us especially to prepare our baby's bottle. Would definitely recommend Village Lodge Harrismith.
I really enjoyed my comfortable stay. Thank you.
Slept well and felt safe.
The rooms were neat and clean, big shower, bed was comfortable.
It was very safe. There was no mirror in the room where you can dry your hair.
We were warmly welcomed to a neat and clean overnight stay.
Johan was so helpful. Well-equipped rooms. Will book again.
Very cordial reception, our needs were taken to heart. Had a very nice braai and made use of the kitchen facilities. Ideal place for a business trip. Just one complaint, not really a complaint, just a recommendation - the pillow is too soft.
Close to all the major eateries.
Good place. Large parking area. Short fridge and air conditioner.
Friendly welcoming and so helpful.
Was there this weekend for the Harrismith flat mountain race! Very friendly people and a beautiful part of South Africa.
We stayed one night on our way to our destination. Very comfortable and well cared for, but small and cramped. Didn't really mind as it was just a place to sleep.
See stars.
Very nice and tidy but small room, we booked room A for 1 night. We had no problems during the stay. The staff was friendly, check in and out was very fast and efficient. Considering the cost of the room, it was great value for money.
Thank you for the hospitality!
We received a very good service, clean and comfortable room at a very reasonable price. The only challenge is the communal kitchen located in a separate building for self catering. This was not convenient for us. We will certainly stay here again.
Small rooms, but neat and clean. Good for an overnight stay while travelling.
It was small, but clean and neat.
All that bothered me was that there was no mirror in the room where you could blow your hair.
Overnight facilities good for one night. Clean and tidy rooms.
Village Lodge is very reasonable to accommodate travellers, rooms are big enough for families travelling with children.
Great bed, clean and neat.
Was sceptical about the area at first but when we were inside everything was neat and clean and very tranquil.
Was an average room. Was clean. Would suggest for people that need to just do an overnight stay on the way to Durban or wherever.
I would not easily recommend to anyone, although the place was neat. Unfortunately we were about 45 minutes late due to traffic. Although we apologized for being late, the owner/manager clearly made us understand that we can be glad he opened the gate as his check-in cut-off time is 21h00. I understand that, but if you encounter a problem, at least it must be understood.
No reception, just given keys in driveway, although very friendly then beyond a sore eye. I will not go again.
Reception was so friendly and helpful and we go some great sleep. We were safe and the room was clean and neat. Thank you so much!
Very cute place. Will definitely go there again.
See stars.
Love it to stay over at Village Lodge Harrismith.
Thank you, it was very neat and peaceful here. No one bothers you and the bed is delicious for away from home!
Rooms very modern and neat, friendly and helpful staff.
Will recommend this place to anyone without blinking, good value for money.
Anyone needing a great place to sleep over around Harrismith. I would recommend the Village Lodge. The restuarants are nearby, and although the N3 is near, no traffic noise was heard during the night. A pleasure to stay over!
It is close to Platberg and the town.
Owner is very helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend the lodge again to any person who would like to spend the night there.
Enjoyed the experience and accommodation.
The unit is well located near the highway, and is the perfect overnight "stop and go" spot. The units are painstakingly neat and incredibly clean with everything you need. You are warmly welcomed and I will for sure spend the night here again on my way to the coast.
Village Lodge Harrismith is very clean, comfortable and tidy. Don't expect tiger lanterns, but expect a clean, tidy place to stay with clean, comfortable beds, a clean bathroom, TV, WiFi and coffee making facilities - that's what they promise and you get it! Friendly people, without invading your privacy. Will definitely stay there again!
Friendly and helpful reception. Neat and comfortable accommodation.
This lodge was perfect for us to rest during our final trip to Johannesburg. Johan, the tenant, was really nice and helpful. The room was big enough, with bathroom, TV and wifi. Location is very practical: 5 minutes away there is an highway service area with plenty of restaurants and a gas station.
We were kindly met by Johan on arrival, all the available facilities were shown to us. The accommodation is comfortable, tidy and comfortable. The premises are secured with electric fencing and security entrance gate. There are restaurants and gas stations within a short distance. The site is close to ramps of the N3 in both directions Johannesburg and Durban.
Neat and clean with a comfy bed and good shower. Friendly, effective service. Can do with a bar fridge in the room, but still good value for money.
Will definitely stay there again.
Will definitely stay here again, clean and tidy accommodation and friendly reception.
Good reception. Nice bed and shower. Just too little coffee in the room.
Perfect accommodation for travelers looking for an overnight stay with clean and neat facilities. There are restaurants and a petrol station nearby.
Warm reception half past eight the evening in the cold. The room was cosy and just what we needed for an overnight stop en route to our destination. Had a lovely, warm night's sleep and felt safe. Safe parking.
Very neat overnight accommodation. Clean bathroom with nice shower. Lovely bedding. Coffee/kettle available in room. Had no problem.
We will definitely stay here again and also recommend this lodge! Lovely bed, very clean and tidy, just what you need for a good night's sleep! Any day again!
Great value for money and very helpful host. Will refer everyone in the future.
Warm welcome and friendly. Well located with places to eat and fuel within 800 m. Will stay there again for sure.
Neat and clean. We received a friendly welcoming and felt at home immediately. On our return from holiday we stayed here again and were so relaxed for the rest of our journey.
See rating.
We will call again. Perfect for quick stay.
Come in at the top instead because the lower road is very bad. Very neat, clean and received good service.
Don't expect too much, but then there is no disappointment either. Neat, clean, adequate.
Very basic. Cold and impersonal. No trouble equipping the room with facilities to keep food cold. No tea, just coffee. We have stayed in places that had less food and excellent facilities and provided basic toiletries.
We informed the people that we where not able to visit due to whether conditions and road conditions that deteriorate and on advice of the authorities did not travel to the lodge. Speaking to Pieter, owner of the lodge, he said that it would not be a problem and if we had dealt with him directly, he would refund us the money. However, being snowed in and unable to drive to the lodge, we cancelled the visit via e-mail as requested. To me it appears that money is of more value to them than the safety of their patrons. Not happy at all. TravelGround, thank you for understanding our circumstances.
New place! Smells deliciously clean and fresh. Still busy with additions, but we had a great time. The caretaker a wonderful caring person!
On arrival we were welcomed by Johan. The rooms are super clean and tidy. Secure parking and very peaceful surroundings.
Beautiful, new rooms with everything one needs. The reception was very friendly. We will definitely come again.
Very neat, friendly service and a comfortable feeling of being at home! Easy access to nice restaurants as well as the rest of the town!
I was so impressed with the place. It's very beautiful and peaceful.
The manager is very friendly and has a very broad knowledge of the history of the area.
Very friendly service, will definitely stay there again, everything was clean and tidy.
No unnecessary expensive frills, just fit for purpose, clean and great.
Unfortunately there were no towels for your face and soaps.
Very clean, tidy and comfortable. Great stay!
Clean and tidy. Location is good for quick overnight stay. Perfect halfway stop.
Beautiful and modern, well-maintained accommodation.
Nice for an overnight rest in a cold Harrismith. There is a heater in the room which helped a lot. Johan received us well and greeted us.
The place is really very neat and well designed. The only request is that there must be 2 chairs in the room, because there are 2 guests per room. Parking is safe. There is no ramp for suitcases with wheels or wheelchairs directly from the parking lot.
Village Lodge met all our requirements. It is neat and clean.
Immediately felt welcome, close to places to eat and with enough parking. Johan saw us off just after 06:00 the next morning. Would easily stay there again if needed.
