Lovely safe stay and clean room and service appreciated.
It is a very nice place to stay overnight.

4th time we stay there. Conveniently located, neat and safe.
Wonderful, the room was clean.
We had a great stay at Wagon Wheel.
Very friendly service and neat and clean rooms. The restaurant and lounge area are lovely, and the food is delicious. No complaints.

Had a great stay. Pool was a winner in that hot weather. Will definitely stay there again.
Very friendly people at the Lodge, nice and cozy. The restaurant just took a little long to take orders and to bring the meals.
It is very conveniently located, clean and tidy. Felt very safe.
Nice place above and beyond the noise of guests who come in later.
The room is very small, and there is no place to put your luggage.
A nice clean place with friendly staff to help. Sleep well and rest.
Reception was 5-star. Thank you guys.
Location perfect. Room clean. Staff friendly. Perfect stop over.
Perfect for an overnight break.
Good stop over between Pretoria, Gauteng, and Cape Town, Western Cape. Accommodation can be better highlighted, camping, backpackers, and better rooms in advertising.
Nice stay, but each room should have a certain size fridge depending on the number of guests.
Slept very well on clean linen and comfortable bed.
Slept very well. Clean and tidy. Very helpful customer service. Even our rooms were changed when they had open space into rooms with single beds instead of bunker beds. The bartender is very cute and friendly! They even helped us with barbecue tongs and salt and everything we needed. Very impressed!
We slept well. It was comfortable and without complications. We arrived late at night and left very early the next morning. The 24 hour service makes it easy.
Lekke stayed. There was no hanger to hang clothes for next day.
We stayed here years ago and decided to try it again. The unit was clean. Beds were a little creaky and not too comfortable. The aircon was very loud though and a little bothersome. I suggest you take a USB fan. We had load shedding from midnight and couldn't open the windows as the one bed is right next to the window, which is next to the parking. There is no netting for bugs and there were plenty. Only Ricoffy and Cremora on offer, so take your own. We ate in the restaurant. Slightly disappointing and expensive. The pool is beautiful and clean.
We had a nice stay, but there were some problems, like the aircon leaking. Pictures on the internet are misleading. It is not as luxurious as they make it out to be and for the price we expected more.
I think my reviews re the place speaks the word. I have stayed there a few times in the past and will do so again. It was very nice.
All was well and good, except for the fact that the fridge didn't get cold. And we also prefer the bar to stay open later.
Wasn't bad at all! Neat and clean. Staff was friendly and the food was very tasty!
Yes, I would just expect the absence of air conditioning to be highlighted.
Arrived late, reception on duty, struggled to find the room. Needs to provide a map so I could find the room better.
Place is very small. Would not recommend for a family, more for a single person.
It was terrible. No aircon. Not value for money. Dirt underneath bed. No space to move around.
No TV, no aircon, corridor lights on all night. Couldn't sleep.
Very nice stay. The entire reception staff provided good service.
Nice halfway stop to Cape Town.
Room was clean. Staff friendly and respectful. The food served in the restaurant is absolutely delicious. There have been complaints about the restaurant prices, but the portions are huge, so the prices are definitely justified. The only complaint I have is the music in the restaurant. They had a 3-second loop of a harmonica just running over and over non-stop for the entire time we were having dinner there, which nearly drove us mad. Literally four notes just repeating for almost an hour straight. Please, for the sake of future guests, fix your music! But besides that, we were very happy with our stay.
Clean and tidy, delicious food and very friendly staff.
My son and I stayed at Wagon Wheel. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to bring our dates forward by one week from our original booking. The change of date was handled quickly and efficiently. The accommodation was very clean, and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
The room we stayed in has been renovated. It was clean and comfortable. The food served in their restaurant was delicious.
And a wonderful dinner in beautiful dining room. Ministry. Service is unbeatable!
Thank you for the assistance and great service.
We got there very late. Food was prepared to eat in room before kitchen closes.
We always spend the night in Beaufort West on our way to George on our annual holiday. Wagon Wheel will definitely be our home again.
Very nice stay. Great that there is aircon. Food just a bit expensive at restaurant.
Wi-Fi wouldn't connect, maybe due to load shedding?
A flat wheel, accident on the way and roadworks forced us to sleep at Wagon Wheel again on April 13th. If I had to push through, we didn't arrive until after 11 pm. Another good experience at Wagon Wheel. But now only double charges because we already paid at another place.) There is probably nothing that can be done about it. It's probably just the rules.
It was a nice place to sleep for 1 night.
Have stayed here numerous times. Rooms and beds comfortable. Rooms with air conditioning good options in the hot months. Just remember mosquito repellent. Sleep well.
Very neat spacious rooms.
Room was neat and clean. Staff friendly. Feel free to eat, the mutton neck was delicious.
Was an overnight stop with early morning departure. Used pocket size room which was adequate and very tidy. The parking was just a bit of a question mark.
We had a very nice stay.
The place is ideal and near the road.
Room is wonderfully spacious with lots of space. Family of 4 with 2 grown teenage sons. Everyone slept well. Bathroom's hot water was enough for all 4 of us. Will stay there again.
Nice place to stay overnight with good service and good facilities.
Yes, value for money and well located.
Enjoyed stay. It is safe, clean and affordable. It is also conveniently located. We stayed there 2 times during the holiday. This is the first of 3 overnight stops on the way to Kruger National Park. Will arrive earlier next time to explore the gardens and area.
See stars.
We were welcomed, had a delicious meal in the restaurant, had a nice clean room with comfortable beds and were treated well by all staff.
The value for money was amazing, especially the family room we stayed in. The only criticism is that we were not warned about the impact of loadshedding as well as the schedule, which of course made one star fall off.
Perfect for a night's sleepover.
Clean, comfortable and convenient. No hot water in the morning. Toilet was leaking. WiFi problematic.
Enjoyed a meal at the restaurant.
The restaurants food needs a proper chef, food not to great. Other than that, it was nice and clean.
Location was good, just off the main road. The image of the room is accurate but much smaller than expected upon arrival. Would have been nice to have an in-room bar fridge. The air con works well.
Could sleep over wonderfully. On the road. Comfortable.
No complaints from my side.
It was good enough for 1 night stay over.
Wagon Wheel Country Lodge is overpriced for what you get. Not even a fridge in the room. The pillow was delicious!
Could rest after day on the road. Would recommend for 1 night stay.
Toilet facilities are very small.
The bed was very uncomfortable. The floor was sandy. And there Ricoffy is evicted, not cool.
The pocket fitting room at the Wagon Wheel Country Lodge is certainly worth the price one pays. I would rather recommend that if you book at the Wagon Wheel, you don't book the cheapest rooms. The guests in the other rooms were noisy and the shower was not completely clean. The restaurant is wonderful and cozy.
The first booking in the backpackers rooms was unsatisfactory but after the upgrade to room 2, everything was perfect.
Not great. The room wasn't ready, there were not enough towels and pillows in the room, and we didn't have any hot water. The location was great and the price okay, but not a great experience.
Computer was down and couldn't find a room directly. Was very noisy with large group of people barbecuing outside. Shower head sprays in all directions. Wifi doesn't work. Waited a very long time for our food. Will not sleep here again.
Arrived at half past two. Refuse to book us. No guests on stage. Refreshments only available after 5 hours. Dinner only half past seven. Had to eat in town. No chair in room. No fridge. Had to go buy ice in town to preserve road food. Wall plug to charge equipment under the table. Difficult to reach. Have to put kettle on floor so cord can reach. Cobwebs on the wall. Curtain rails fall out of wall. Having trouble putting it back on. Poor workmanship. Room is terribly small. Must climb over suitcase to move. Unfriendly receptionist.
Restaurant, bar, room and bedding clean and tidy, staff nice, unfortunately no extra assistance in rooms during load shedding, fan and water were off in room during load shedding, I had to vacate my room at 00h15 in the morning after load shedding took place because I could not continue couldn't sleep in the heat without the fan, staff member at reception helped me check out 00h30 and didn't offer any other solution to help, would suggest they look into standby power for all their rooms.
We were very disappointed with our accommodation as what we got was definitely not what was on the brochure. We did ask for the economy room, but never thought it would be such a small room. No fridge, which was a great disappointment indeed, and the room was so small you could hardly move in it. There was also no air-conditioner in the room, and you could not open the windows as the passage was closed in with windows, and all the handles of the windows were missing and the windows jammed shut. We suggest the inspectors go and investigate these premises.
The room was under water and the base of the bed had soaked up water half way. They only wanted to dry the floor but I then asked for another room. Then get one. When I went to sleep the bed was broken. So then slept on the couch. How do you not know the bed is broken? Expensive for what you get.
Worst place I have every stayed overnight, shower didn't work, toilet dirty, no water to have tea or coffee no air-conditioner, kettle dirty inside, pictures they have on the website is not true!
Has all the essentials. Right on the N1.
What an asset Madelein is to Wagon Wheels! The breakfast was very good and good price! There is no rail with hooks on which to hang clothes! It's an essential miss! The toilet needs attention! Handle must be lifted after rinsing, otherwise the water runs all the time!. However, the decor is very full!
Meal in restaurant excellent and friendly staff.
Service was good, bed comfortable and tidy. We would love to go again.
They are open 24/7 which makes it very easy if you want to check in late and drive again early in the morning.
Friendly reception. Clean, tidy room. We had a nice stay. Thank you.
Very comfortable mattresses. Lay like a dream.
If you only need a quick place to sleep this is perfect. Safe, easy in and out. Neat and all the necessary facilities.
Slept well, heater available and was much needed. Now coffee is also available in the room. Maybe just a few tea bags sitting there too.
Glad the room looked like the pictures.
Very neat rooms. Restaurant on site is very convenient. Have delicious food.
Enjoyed a swim in the pool on arrival, a delicious dinner and breakfast. Comfortable accommodation for overnight stay and left refreshed in the morning.
Friendly staff. Quality accommodation.
Food and drinks a bit expensive.
We will definitely stay at Wagon Wheel again! And the Lamb neck and Lamb shank were awesome!
Thank you very much for a neat unit and very helpful staff and manager.
Thanks, appreciate your effort.
It was very comfortable, neat and clean. Will definitely stay there again.
Had a great time and the food in the restaurant was good. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Nice place to spend a night while traveling.
The lodge is good for a rest stop travelling to and from Cape Town/ George. It had WiFi and a swimming pool.
Shower was just too hot or cold, couldn't get it perfect. Breakfast people weren't too eager to help when we walked in at 9:15.
Not very helpful.
Would love to recommend it.
Bathrooms need to be updated. Room fairly clean. Good for an overnight travel.
We were also there on the 22nd. I booked deluxe room but got standard room. According to Wagon Wheel website. No water from morning hours, couldn't even have coffee or face wash before we go. I would not recommend it.
You can't come in early. Their restaurant area only opens at 5 o'clock. Apart from that and the unwillingness of staff to help, the room was clean and tidy. The children had fun swimming.
There was only a dog from the manager that barked all night behind the duplex, so didn't get much sleep but otherwise it was very pleasant.
Sleeper couch was slightly less comfortable than sleeping on rocks and broken glass.
This was the third time we booked and this time it was not at all to our liking. The water pressure and supply was faulty. The entire floor was wet in the bathroom when the power came back on. Reception placed a mop in my hands. The food at the restaurant was also not up to standard. Chips were of different standard, my chip was pale and not crispy at all. My mom's chips were perfect. The chocolate mousse was not cold and it was runny.
I booked a de Luxe room for an overnight stay. The room was neat and clean, but really not up to standard with what would be expected for the price range. No WiFi either. Finishing left a lot to be desired, although everything was functionally fine. What didn't help was the loadshedding (there was absolutely no power in the room - not even a light) and the wind kicked up clouds of dust from the unpaved courtyard which prevented a door from being left open for some air. For the price range of the de luxe room, skip it. There are better and more convenient options available.
Overpriced for what you get. With loadshedding only a very dim light in bathroom. Can't use aircon or TV for which you pay a lot.
We arrived at the lodge 45min before check in. Was informed that the rooms wont be ready for quite some time due to load shedding and the rain. Was told that the beds will not have sheets on and no towels until much later in the day. We then decided to carry on with our drive and push through to Cape Town instead of staying over the night at Wagon Wheel Lodge.
We ordered hamburgers. The patty was raw and tasteless while the bread roll was stale. Apart from a slice of tomato, there were no other trimmings. The chips were old - obviously made way ahead of time and just reheated. We also ordered a plate of onion rings. Even it was a bit raw and not prepared properly. A bad experience indeed.
Reception's door is lame and lacks attention, parking is not indicated and everyone parks as they please.
Very bad experience with Pocket Pass Room. Paid for Deluxe but got Standard room.
They made a plan and booked my husband and I in another guest house - thankfully, but sadly I will not be staying at the Wagon Wheel again. Booking was cancelled by the Wagon Wheel and on arrival, there was no accommodation for us. Despite accommodation being paid for and a confirmation sent by website.
The bedding is already used (yellow and full of holes). Floors dirty. When the power went out there was no alternative light and not a drop of water from taps, apparently because the water pump needed power (there should at least be alternatives in place for such situations). Definitely not seeing us again.
The room was terribly hot. No small fridge or anything to keep things cold. Rooms are very set up like in a hostel setting. No burglar bars in front of window. No privacy when the window is open. Everyone walks past to or from their rooms. Very very tight.
The WiFi only works in certain places and also only at certain times. Service from the website is good but from Wagon Wheel was an idea of: finish, sleep over and get your ride.
Friendly staff and the service is good.
Very nice peaceful atmosphere. Service is good. Rooms are clean and up to standard. Restaurant's food is delicious.
From the moment we stepped in, we were impressed with the incredibly good service and friendly people. Rooms were extremely neat and gardens etc very well looked after! We were really more than happy!
Delicious food, steak consumed within 11 min. A good night's sleep and a good overnight stay on the way to the Cape.
It was an awesome overnight stay for us. Thank you very much.
Five stars to the resort, restaurant and all staff. We will definitely stay with you again. Thank you very much.
Make the long way shorter!
Excellent for overnight stays for single persons and groups.
Good overnight accommodation in the Karoo. The place is clean and tidy. Restaurant has big portions. Nice food.
The Staff were very friendly, fast and professional, plus the owner was very nice and accommodating when I needed to change my booking. The restaurant has excellent food. It has a very calming atmosphere. I would recommend this place as the top in Beaufort-West. It also feels very safe and quiet there. The rooms are very nice and sleeps well.
Good location. Just what you are looking for for a quick overnight stay.
Thank you for a pleasant stay.
The reception was very friendly and very helpful. Was able to "upgrade" our unit even upon arrival. Would perhaps just ask that there would be more body wash available especially if you just want to stay overnight. Thank you very much for great service.
See stars.
Comfortable, clean and Wagon Wheel is easy to find along the road.
Maybe just consider small fridges for the rooms.
Very nice stay! It's good for a quick overnight stop.
The accommodation was a welcome respite after a long drive, the staff were welcoming and the accommodation was clean and comfortable.
Received very good service. Slept well. Could maybe put more coffee, tea, milk in the rooms.
Really convenient place to stop overnight on the way to Cape Town or Stellenbosch.
Neat and clean, only bed lamps that didn't work.
Staff is very friendly. Short maintenance and refurbishment. Place is deteriorating a bit.
Basic facilities, a very good place for an overnight stay on a long road trip. Would not recommend as a holiday spot, small and a bit old.
We booked the pocket-sized room, but when we got there we wanted to upgrade to a better room instead. The room we ended up staying in was clean, tidy and with air conditioning which was needed - however the room was just very small. We really enjoyed the restaurant's food, especially the lamb shank. Everyone is very friendly and the premises are well maintained. All complaint is that we feel that the R1000 per night we paid in the end was a bit expensive.
Entire floor under water after showering. Floors were very dusty.
Just what you need for a rest stop. The showers need attention though, hot water takes about 10 minutes to come in. So much water being wasted.
More of a motel than a lodge.
The room we booked was not the same room we got. We paid for a 4 bed, and we got 2 and a half. And the reception at Wagon Wheel couldn't help us. Very very disappointed in the miscommunication.
We only needed accommodation for the evening and the place was clean and tidy.
Very nice and comfortable place to spend the night. Rooms are clean and tidy. I would just like them to put handrails in the showers in strategic places for the elderly. Mother-in-law slipped into shower. But will definitely spend the night there again.
Rooms are neat and nicely finished. Pool clean and well maintained and in a quiet area. Braai packets may need work (a bit thin), service is friendly.
We arrived late (20:00); unfortunately neglected to instruct my bank to forward e.g. (doll). Staff at Wagon Wheel quickly clarified and assigned our room. While we waited, they suggested a beer. We enjoyed it and afterwards also a delicious steak. Room was neat and clean. No coffee, but we got that at reception the next morning at 6:30. Overall a great experience!
It was convenient with the restaurant also on the same premises for dinner.
Comfortable to stay overnight but with no self-catering facilities.
For the price one can get 4 star accommodation at the coast instead. The buildings are okay but not in great shape (ceiling boards look like they're ready to fall). The restaurant offers a very limited menu with food that I'd expect from a take away except it's rather expensive. The only reason I'd possibly stay at this accommodation again is because of it's location.
Wagon Wheel is perfect if you literally just need a pillow for your head one night on your trip. When you get to the rooms, you get the feeling of an American Motel, small with only the essentials, but neat rooms. It's perfect if you're on the go and just want a quick rest.
Food could be better for price.
Nostalgic to sleep there again. Expensive for what you get. Food not up to standard. Service very friendly.
Stort was geblok gewees, nie dit verwag nie.
The restaurant and bar area are very nice. Room is neat and tidy. The dishes however was very dirty in the self catering unit (#44) with lipstick and fingerprint marks evident on the drinking glasses. Gardens are well maintained but the pool and pool area needs serious attention.
Would never recommend Wagon Wheel ever. Linen was neat.
The room was adequate but there were some unfinished aspects such as the lace curtain in the bathroom which was torn, the bathroom window which was very difficult to open, the sink was loose and the corridor light outside the room was not working.
Were upgraded to luxury unit. No coffee or tea (had our own so didn't bother to ask ). Room is windowless so no fresh air can circulate through the room at night. Shower nozzle was obviously calcified because only half the nozzle gave water, after waiting for a long time for hot water to reach the shower. Not our best experience as an overnight stay.
The room was beautiful and very comfortable. I went for the "Budget" room as I literally just needed a place to sleep, but they upgraded me to a standard room with all the amenities for no extra charge.
Again not wheelchair friendly as indicated. Room was covered with mosquitoes and had to ask for spray. Shower not wheelchair friendly. Guesthouses/hotellets/lodges must ensure that wheelchairs can enter at the front door and that the shower has no wall to climb over. Hand showering is essential as is a handle that a person can hold on to while showering.
Please update the ones that are sacrificed. There is no DSTV, only a few SABC channels and then of course ETV, the remote for the TV was terribly dirty, and with the new Covid rules, the remote must be disinfected after every visit. Hotels also usually have a bar fridge in each unit. Here you have to rent a self catering unit to have a fridge. Please make people aware of this, as many people carry around medicine that needs to be kept cold. Otherwise overall it was peaceful and very safe.
Was expecting something different from the photos. Okay for a stopover along the way.
Comfortable for one night's overnight stay. Neat and clean.
Unfortunately not worth the price for me. Get basic, minimum amenities in a very small room. Room also needs maintenance. WiFi is not available to 'economy class' rooms, as we were told.
Neat and clean. Meet basic needs.
Bedbugs bit us both, even though the room looked very clean and tidy to the eye. The next day my husband and I were also both sick, after eating at the restaurant the night before. Unpleasant experience.
I don't think it's worth 3 stars, if people compare it to other 3 stars. Rooms are very small, no aircon in the room we slept in. Was a little disappointed when I saw the room.
Covered by mosquitoes, locusts and spiders, reception unhelpful and unable to get our reservation. After a long way we had to struggle to check in and when we got to the room it was covered in trampolines because the door was open all the way around. The room was covered with mosquitoes and spiders also because of the door. Had to go to Beaufort West at 11 o'clock in the evening to buy Doom, there is no water supply in the room, it's at an extra cost. Do not recommend the place at all.
Extremely disappointed. Industrial carpets in the room full of stains. TV is probably 25 years old. Snow on the screen does not display anything. Remote control does not work. Air conditioner is also probably 25 years old. Just not cold and not hot. No remote control. Toilet leaks water and the water leak has already made stains on the tiles. The pictures on the internet are deceiving and not the harsh reality as I experienced it. Never again.
Cottages do not have fridges in them and also struggled with hot water.
Worst place for a lot of money.
Rooms not clean on arrival. Light fitting full of dead insects. Cups dirty, not washed. Restaurant very dated.
It was also very nice that they are pet friendly.
Clean, affordable, comfortable. Especially for vehicles with caravans on their way to the sea.
Good accommodation between Johannesburg and the Cape if you were on the road all day.
Great staff, very friendly. The food was excellent, definitely the best steaks I have had in a while. Room was very clean and comfortable.
We needed a place to stay for our family of 6 on our way back to Cape Town after visiting family in the Free State. Few places these days are suitable for families of more than 4 members, so we were very grateful when we saw that Wagon Wheel had a family cottage. It was perfect for us: spacious, clean, beautifully furnished and just the place to unwind after 6 hours in the car. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We didn't eat there, but the dining hall/restaurant looked lovely and next time we will definitely plan our things so that we will just enjoy breakfast there.
We had dinner there for the first time. The food was very good, BUT we waited a VERY long time for it. At the end of a day on the road, one would like a faster service.
The ad and what you get match. Would absolutely recommend Wagon Wheel Country Lodge!
After a long journey from Johannesburg, this is the perfect overnight stop to rest a bit. Enjoyed a delicious breakfast the morning before we left. Will definitely stay here again as I have done before.
Wagon wheel is not ultra luxurious, but really excellent located next to the N1. Many rooms and all-night service mean that you can just check in with them from the N1 for a place to sleep. Clean, spacious room with crisp bedding. Nice and quiet even though it is next to the highway. The restaurant serves the most delicious mutton dishes. The good rain through the night was a bonus!
We enjoyed our one night stay at Wagon Wheel Lodge. The service is good and the rooms clean. There are also facilities for your pets (nice lawns and water bowls etc). We did not visit the restaurant, but it looked very nice.
The room was clean and tidy. The bar and restaurant offered a welcome respite after a hot ride through the Karoo. All that bothered was when we moved the single bed away from the wall we detected open wiring. We were just afraid the children would touch it. We weren't sure if there was power on the wires.
Guests just need to know that not all the rooms have air conditioners, so the rooms are very hot. There are also no fridges in the rooms so you cannot keep your food cool overnight.
Good accommodation. Nice setting with outside area as well as pool. Would recommend.
No further comment.
After the whole day on the road we slept well.
The shower was horrible. It was either hot or cold. There was no remedy.
The service in the restaurant was not really good on this evening and for the price the food was not value for money. But it was convenient not to have to drive into town yet. There were way too few waiters and they were apologizing for it all night.
Convenient with a restaurant on site. The food was nice, but unfortunately the food and drink bills have to be paid separately. It would be more convenient if everything could be placed on one account. Everything is clean and tidy and there is a nice shower in the room to wash off the tiredness of the day.
Comply with 1 night's layover en route to Cape Town.
Meet all the basic overnight requirements. Clean and tidy.
Food is very nice at restaurant.
Bathrooms and linens were clean, but floors were not. The bigger problem is that I didn't get the room I booked. I booked a room for two adults and two teenagers but the room looked like one for three adults. I had to go and ask three times before the extra linen was brought for my second child. Next time I would rather stay in a private B&B in town.
We had a nice overnight stay, the room was neat and clean. But pool area needs attention and new chairs and umbrellas. Breakfast was delicious and good value for money.
Room was very stuffy, was difficult to open window for fresh air. Dogs that kept barking were disturbing. Mattress was rock hard and pillows very uncomfortable. Didn't have a good night's rest at all. Restaurant's menu very limited and a bit expensive.
Nice swimming facilities for the children.
Really very small for 4 sleeping places. Small, but neat. The TV only has one channel. Not recommended for self catering.
It's just too cramped for what you get for 4 people.
Neat place and slept peacefully not really hearing traffic from the main road.
Everything was fine.
Room was very small for 6 persons and no air conditioning, in other words very hot and stuffy. Bathroom area very small.
I must however compliment the restaurant. Their food was the best ever. When you make your booking and look at the photo's you expect what you saw on the photo's but that is not what we got at all.
I found the accommodation very nice and clean. There were some things that weren't quite right. In the bathroom there were things broken, and for the price, I really think a small fridge should be in the room. Pool not clean. There were only 2 towels in the room even though we were 3 people.
Not very good for the price paid.
The little room was bloody hot and stuffy without any fan or air conditioning. The lights didn't work. There wasn't enough parking nearby - at least the friendly person at reception made a plan for us. The place was an absolute rip-off when you compare what you get and how much you pay for it and they never see me again. There are many other places in town that offer much better value for money - even cheaper.
Service is very bad.
The room was dirty, bunk bed had chewed gum on it and there were brown marks on the bottom of the top bunk. The bathroom is way too small for 6 people. Hardly one person can fit properly in the bathroom and the door doesn't close properly. There were mice in the ceiling and a lot of noise at night because the room is not soundproof. There were also not enough mugs or glasses for the amount of people we booked for and the power plug didn't work. We were also informed that we could not find the WiFi password, it is only for the Deluxe rooms but it was not advertised as such on the internet. It was a horrible experience and we slept very badly. We slept there on the way to Cape to rest but we were more tired than we were before we stopped there. The room is only suitable for 1 person, certainly not 2 adults and 4 children.
See stars.
The room was very clean and tidy. The kids enjoyed the pool while my wife and I enjoyed a drink at the bar with friendly staff. The dinner at the restaurant was very enjoyable and the waiters very friendly.
Very well located and safe for overnight to break long journey. Clean and tidy, air conditioning in room fantastic for the 46 degrees! Restaurant on premises also big plus.
Did upgrade to better room, but had a nice stay and will know to use services.
Other than that everything was perfect, we'll just say the evening buffet was absolutely delicious, but just a little pricey for what you get.
Very neat accommodation and is well located. Would definitely consider staying here again.
Simple, clean and great food.
Everything was lovely. The service and the room was great.
Our accommodation was satisfactory and convenient.
Was a nice place to stay overnight and had a great time eating and visiting and the rooms were nice and clean and comfortable.
Good overnight accommodation, I can recommend it. Peaceful and quiet.
We had a perfect stay on our layover to Cape Town and then again to Johannesburg.
Will definitely stay there again. Highly recommended!
Everything was fine, could not fault anything, except that they could consider offering DStv to all rooms, even if it was just a small package. Our room only had SABC 1, 2 and 3, if one arrives early at your destination there is only TV as entertainment, for the evening to get.
The website's description of the 'econo' rooms should be clearer. Wagon Wheel is very nice, but upon arrival they told us that the room does not have air conditioning in it nor does it have a TV. I had to read to the third paragraph to see that the room didn't have standard stuff in it. I stay in many guest house and B&B and the price for this room was very expensive. All I request is that the description about the econo rooms should be better. The people who work there are very helpful and friendly and would definitely stay there again.
I was very impressed with Wagon Wheel, staff very friendly and the lamb shank was delicious.
Good service, and as mentioned above.
The room provided was neat and the accommodation great. My only feedback is that the price is too high for what you get. We slept in a chalet on our way back at another place and we got a fully self-catering unit for R200 more. Our unit didn't have enough coffee in it for a cup of coffee on the evening of our arrival and the morning of our departure. There were only 2 cups provided. We were a family of four. The experience at your braai area provided for all was also a bit disappointing. There is little communication about what is provided and what not.
We were fine with the accommodation, but it's not big or luxurious. Well located on our way to Cape Town. Lovely swimming pool.
Very friendly reception. Room was neat and clean. Ideal for an overnight stay after a long day's travel.
There’s a few negative aspects: bar only opens at 5 but in town there is a choice so not really a big concern. The lodge is very old and needs a bit of up keeping. The room was great! Discovered at 5 am when I wanted to shower that there was no hot water. I didn’t check if maybe I needed to flip a switch somewhere.
The room was neat and clean, but better description of the types of rooms and which ones do not have air conditioners would help in choosing rooms. Our room (47) needs upgrading.
Accommodation was good, room neat and clean, staff friendly.
Friendly service and open until late as well as early morning.
We stayed overnight at Wagon Wheel in December. It was convenient to be able to book a place and pay immediately. There are many rooms and therefore the availability is good. However, we feel that the price we paid was very expensive for very basic amenities. The room was neat and clean. Our bedside lamps didn't work, and even though they came out, they didn't know what to do to fix it. Our one TV channel also had no sound and nothing was done about it. The accommodation is reasonable for one night, but really not worth the money.
Room was neat, but shower was dirty. Sofa bed insufficient for teenager. Restaurant was pleasant and food delicious. Very grateful for air conditioning!
The town is always a sad disappointment, but Wagon Wheel is a welcome oasis.
Neat safe accommodation. Would recommend for overnight purposes.

Wasn't prepared for loadshedding at all. place had no idea when and how to assist guests. the photos are misleading it's more worn and our room door wouldn't open and close. obviously just for quick sleep and drive immediately.
The room was neat and clean. I had a reservation for 2 adults and 2 children where one was 17 years old. There was only a sofa bed without any blankets, pillows and also a towel for the child. Can get better value at other places for less than they charge.
Reception was so-so. Room was not properly clean.
No warning or provision, not even candle for load shedding. Inside neat but was not clean and door of room did not want to open.
I would not recommend the Wagon Wheel Country Lodge to anyone. Their pictures on the web create the impression of a beautiful place to sleep and the opposite is that it doesn't even look like the picture at all. It's also not value for money at all. Above all, the staff stole our sparkling wine from the goodies they kindly chilled for us throughout the night. I am very disappointed in the Wagon Wheel.
Sien sterre.
Very neat and comfortable for an overnight stop.
Would definitely recommend the lodge. Clean and tidy. Staff very friendly and helpful.
We had a comfortable room, clean and neat and will definitely consider it again when we travel there. Dinner and breakfast was lovely and the extra bonus was that I could take a long my dog and had no problems. Thank you very much.
Catered to all our needs a family.
I really enjoyed it, the food was delicious and the staff very friendly.
Personnel were friendly at reception and went to work quickly, especially after a long day on the road, it was good.
I would stay at Wagon Wheel again anytime and definitely recommend them.
I always enjoy staying at Wagon Wheel Country Lodge. It's neat and clean and safe. It's my favorite place to sleep in Beaufort West.
Could upgrade outside, but rooms very nice and clean.

Skoon geriewe en personeel baie vriendelik. Dankie julle dat julle ons tuis laat voel het.
Wagon Wheel's staff are very pleasant and friendly. The variety of rooms gives you the option to stay luxurious or economical. The only problem was the kitchen which took a very long time with our breakfast.
Just 2 problem areas that need attention. The hungry cats gathered outside the door made your appetite disappear. The service in the dining room with breakfast was poor. After 20 minutes I went to the reception to inquire if we could still expect service. He then came to take the order himself. There were about 6 people in the dining room.
Was welcomed friendly. There was, however, a problem with our booking that took some time to sort out, but was fixed. The rooms are tasteful and has everything for an overnight stay. The other quests were a bit noisy.
Thank you very much for the accommodation.
Service, quality of restaurant and helpfulness provided by Wagon Wheel's staff are of outstanding quality. Will stay there again for sure.
Booked room with bath but on arrival put in room with shower. However, reception fixed it immediately. Unfortunately the bath water was dark brown (don't know what the problem was). Small fridge in the room would help (no place to store medication that needs to be refrigerated). Restaurant was great. Wagon Wheel is very well located.
Good to stay there for overnight.
Very nice place to stay overnight. Friendly staff, clean rooms and nice restaurant.
Clean and comfortable and on the go.
Wagon Wheel Country Lodge is an ideal overnight stop. People are friendly and helpful. Very neat and beautiful. DStv in the rooms would be a plus.
Is a good overnight stop. The shower is a bit impractical and leaves the bathroom floor under water.
The reception was very good and friendly and was helped very quickly. The room was neat and ready and very comfortable. However, we experienced a lot of noise from people also tampering with the door. Our plan was to get up at 05:00 and leave by 06:00. But the noise of people caused us to get up at 3:15am and leave at 4am. It really is a beautiful place but as mentioned the noise was inappropriate.
The room was clean and tidy, the pool doesn't look as attractive as in the photos. I think the price is very high for the type of room as it is very small and only suitable for an overnight stay. The food at the restaurant is very nice, but do not recommend their dessert. Friendly staff!
Easy access, friendly welcome. Room not what was booked online, however clean. Room was not checked prior to check-in, as not aired (no window) and no hot water. However, maintenance staff quickly and arranged key for next-door room shower. Both dinner and breakfast times are incorrect on website, so we missed both. Both finished at 9, website states 10, no other times informed or notice in room. Barman friendly, offered refreshments and glasses to take to room since bar was closed. We will recommend the lodge if this received urgent attention and improved.
Other people were standing in our parking lot and no one could help us. Had to unload the car in the rain and walk far! Please indicate that there is not full DStv - only certain channels!
Accommodation is very primitive and service leaves much to be desired. We checked in at 14:00 and at 14:30 none of the staff could help me with a corkscrew. I would have to wait until 16:30 when the bar opened.
Wagon Wheel falsely advertises and we did not get what we paid for at all. The pictures looked so promising but you can barely turn around in the old room and can basically turn on the boiler while sitting on the toilet. Please don't waste your time or money - I also found papers and things in the shower that prove it wasn't cleaned properly. The swimming pools on site are dams because the pebbles on the bottom cut your feet and there is no WiFi as promised, you only get it at the reception area !! Definitive no and if you didn't have to type asterisks I would definitely have marked a zero on als.
My family and I couldn't even sleep at night because of how uncomfortable and dirty the rooms were. Staff members couldn't care less.
Friendly reception, beautiful clean rooms and bathrooms. Delicious meals are served in the restaurant. All the staff very friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay there again.
The room was very neat and comfortable. Restaurant served good food. Staff was very friendly. Overall it was a very relaxing night's rest.
It was worth the money and I will go back.
The place is well located and well equipped, and has a lovely restaurant.
We stayed at Wagon Wheel for one night, passing through Beaufort West. Although the rooms are a bit small it is very nicely furnished and well maintained. The en-suite bathroom, like the rest of the room is also very clean, has a shower and enough warm water. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I will definitely recommend this as a one night stay-over while passing through.
Very nice for kids, a lovely stop over for the long road ahead. Very neat and convenient with swimming pool and picnic place under trees. The camp with animals were cute. The people must please look after them well.
We only stayed at Wagon Wheels for one night. It was very clean and neat. The staff were friendly.
See the stars.
The rooms were clean and tidy! Friendly staff and we felt very welcome. Service was excellent, rooms are stylish, clean and tidy. The breakfast menu have less beans on it, but otherwise, the snails were heavenly and the steaks fantastic. The barman is an absolute asset to Wagon Wheel. We will most definitely make use of their service again.
I'd definitely recommend the Whagon Wheel Country Lodge as an overnight facility after a long day's journey. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and tidy.
I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of this establishment. Our room was superb - very comfortable, with quality linen and finishes. We ate at the restaurant, and were impressed. The staff obviously take their jobs very seriously as their attitudes were client orientated and very friendly. I will definitely stay there again.
Highly recommended and will be back.
It was lovely staying here. The staff are also very friendly. Very neat and clean place.
We were pleasantly surprised by Wagon Wheel. It was lovely to arrive at a place where the garden is nice and cool after 7 hours on the road. Will definitely stay there next time when we go to the West Coast.
Our sleeping place was clean and tidy. The ideal place to rest your tired body after a long day in the car.
Wagon Wheel remains just one of the old stalwarts on the road. Always clean and tidy.
Accommodation met requirements in relation to safety, convenience and cost. It was nice to enjoy dinner at the restaurant as well.
Wagon Wheel underwent a complete transformation. The room was very neat, comfortable, everything worked and it was beautiful. A perfect, easily accessible stopover. A big plus is that it was pet friendly which makes it easy for holidaymakers. Good value for money.
Reception is open 24 hours and we were kindly received. Room was very neat and bedding and mattress of top quality. Traffic from main road did not bother at all.
Everything was in order on arrival. Room was very neat. Dinner hall also good. Food delicious. Will stay there again.
The white linen is very refreshing and displays beautifully. A small fridge in the room would have made it even more convenient as you just keep water and soft drinks and a few snacks at hand. A bathtub is also more convenient with small children, but for one night a shower is not a big problem.
Can recommend Wagon Wheel.
Comfortable rooms with good food.
Shower area from a safety point of view concerning, once I had showered the floor becomes wet and easy to slip on. More hand rails? The TV looked very suspect to me? I saw what appeared that it was not attached to the frame by bolts or screws, and wall bracket was also leaning at a slightly forward angle. I did not use the TV. Restaurant - excellent - quick service by waitress, backed up by an efficient well mannered barman. Food - slightly overpriced for mixed grill - Lamb shank was great, but very limited options on the menu. I learnt something new, that there are room options on the website, had I known this, my choice room would certainly have been different.
The Wagon Wheel is a nice overnight stay between Cape Town and Johannesburg if you are not in a hurry.
Staff are friendly and rooms are nice and clean. Ideal overnight stay for reasonable price. Dinner was pleasant. Recommend Wagon Wheel to anyone needing overnight accommodation.
See the stars.
It was convenient and quiet and value for money.
Accommodation was clean and comfortable.
Very friendly, helpful staff. Clean and tidy. There is just no clearly marked parking. Some of the guests stop in front of others' doors.
Everything was in order, neat and clean. The food was off the "books", breakfast as well as dinner. I would recommend it for further stay to any tourist anytime. Thank you very much for your hospitality.
Good value for money, very neat and clean. Would love undercover parking.
Neat overnight accommodation. Even longer to explore the village. Delicious meals are also provided.
There was plenty of hot water and the room was clean. Bedside lamps would be helpful. This place is ideal for an overnight stop within a small budget.
Convenient and nice location and neat room!
Good location and safe.
We had a nice stay. The room was neat and clean. It is small and expensive compared to other accommodation in the Karoo. The restaurant was very good and provided excellent service.
The Luxury room was neat and clean. There was everything as advertised except for bar fridge. So soda got hot. We were received kindly and the facilities offered were good. We would never choose Beaufort West as a tourist destination, but had to stay because bus and Wagon Wheel is a little outside the town which makes it quieter and safer. The garden is well maintained and the pool is certainly a nice bonus in the summer. We just feel that the price we paid does not justify the stay. This is basically just a room with queen bed, and single bed and a bathroom with toilet, shower and sink. We have already stayed in Oudtshoorn in El Dorado where we could find the following for 5 persons. This is an entire house with 3 bedrooms, two floors. R1300 paid. Here we were only 3 persons. Compare prices.
A good place to relax, with enough activities to keep the kids busy.
Neat accommodation for one night. Thank you for the air-con in the room.
Lovely, clean, comfortable rooms with air conditioning which was much needed because of the cold evenings.
Room was clean, beds comfortable and good location. Restaurant very expensive compared to what you get. Wouldn't eat there again.
Rooms are small, no fridge facilities in room, and this for the hot Karoo environment is somewhat of a disappointment. For the cost one expects breakfast included, No WiFi. A few km from the town, so a little quieter and calmer than the main street of Beaufort West's hustle and bustle of trucks which was a bonus.
The room and bathroom was very clean and neat but the TV reception wasn't that good. The image was very bad. But is was quiet, despite the many other guests and the air-conditioning was very welcome and worked well.
Rooms are OK but not to my liking. No fridge. No TV.
It is a nice place for an overnight.
R1200.00 for 2 persons for one night is not value for your money as room has no fridge, no anti-theft in front of room window and breakfast is not included.
If we got what we paid for it might have been better, we were at another place that asked for less and the accommodation and setting was very neat and beautiful!
Wagon Wheel's rooms and bathrooms are clean, but the rooms do not look the way the photos look. For the amount we paid for accommodation it is not worth it at all. We also got a room with two single beds but we specifically booked the room with the double bed. We suspect they had a shortage of rooms.
See the stars.
We have booked for two days in the Deluxe Room King, with the photos in mind we are staying at a beautiful lodge, with a lovely swimming pool. Well, so we thought! The disappointment was great! The room is extremely small, the bathroom anything but luxurious (that's why there are no photos of the bathrooms) and the lodge is not a place where one can lie down and relax at all! It's very expensive because it doesn't include breakfast. Cars have no allocated parking and the feeling the lodge gives is that of a "truck stop". Definitely won't use it again.
The cost of the room and restaurant was ridiculous for what you get. I paid R85 for a basic, small hamburger and 10 oily fries. They do provide a play area for children, but if you want to eat something at the restaurant of if you're looking for a spacious room, I won't recommend Wagon Wheel.
Wagon Wheel is good enough for a night's sleepover. Clean and tidy. Well located on the main route.
Would not recommend it.
Was backpacker quality with very small bathroom and cement floors. Very low standard is maintained. Will definitely never book there again.
Very nice stay with good food. Thank you.
Wonderful neat rooms. Delicious food in restaurant.
Was there Dec 16 had an air conditioner in room but the air conditioner kept going off due to too much charge on the power line. The caravan park is just behind the rooms as soon as they start drawing power the air conditioners trip it in Dec when it was so very hot. But otherwise we had a very nice stay. Clean and tidy. The food at the restaurant was out of the books, very delicious. Friendly staff.
Very clean and neat. Definitely recommended.
Very friendly reception. We were in one of the restored rooms. Beautiful and neat. Had a great dinner in the restaurant and breakfast the next morning.
We made use of the wheelchair friendly unit, perfect! There was ample space and we were quite surprised.
Beautiful place and friendly service.
I will just say that the photos on the website do not correspond to reality. Especially outside. The photos show green grass and swimming pool. There was no grass by bedrooms and dirty pool. Otherwise very good.
We had a great time, enjoyed a fantastic dinner. Everything was clean and tidy. Thank you very much would love to stay there again. Friendly greeting.
Thank you for your great service.
Was affordable and the room was just what we needed with four teenagers. One big room with clean, fresh white linen. The onwer went out of his way to make us feel at home, nice and warm and friendly. I can highly recommend Wagon Wheel.
See the star-rating.
We had a great stay and were kindly received.
Friendly reception. Rooms neat.

Staff very friendly and helpful.
Service was friendly and the sleeping facilities were neat and clean. Resort is clean and well maintained. Will make use of the Wagon Wheel again. Thank you once again for everyone's prompt service.
We had a good stay.
Friendly service. Very good location right next to the N1 - but very little traffic noise. I would stay there again. The reception was friendly, and the rooms clean. The dinner in the restaurant was very nice. It's good value for money if you need a comfortable place on the way between the north and the Cape. I would stay there again. My only criticism is that they should make the hot water geyser hotter in the winter.
After a long journey it was so gratifying to be received with such hospitality at Wagon Wheel. The rooms are very clean, beautiful white linen and the food was delicious.
Staff is very friendly, room is clean and tidy. Comfortable stopover for travelers.
The rooms were very neat. Dinner and breakfast were served speedily and they have a menu with a variety. There's lots of space at the lodge to walk around and stretch the legs after a long journey. There is also a clean swimming pool to cool down in.
Quiet and peaceful overnight facilities. Noise from the road and heavy vehicles was quite loud sometimes. Restaurant's portions were lavish and tasty.
The room that was originally booked for us was horrible. Cement floor showers, no aircon, door hinges that don't close properly. After we asked for a fan, we were moved to a much better room where everything was provided to us.
Place is safe and well located, will recommend it to anyone if they are looking for somewhere to overnight.
Clean room, soft beds, just what you need after a long day on the road.
You don't need anything more if you only sleep over one night, maybe just a small TV. The evening can get quite long. But it's very nice and clean, thank you very much.
On the surface it looks neat, but we had to kill quite a few cockroaches throughout the evening and night. The beds definitely need new good mattresses. It's already slept through. I would also rather recommend showers if possible. We have been going to Wagon Wheel for quite a few years now but will not use the place again.
The ideal overnight facility with what is needed for said. Restaurant offers high quality meals. Restaurant dinner was exquisite and fragrant. Thank you very much.
Neat and clean. The hosts went out of their way to accommodate my son who uses a wheelchair. Soon several rooms will be fully equipped for people in wheelchairs. Great pool area and little animal enclosure for the kids to enjoy.
The room was neat and clean, but after a long journey you really want to enjoy a nice warm shower before bed. Unfortunately there was no hot water and it was already late when we arrived. The next morning there was a little hot water in the basin, but not in the shower. And they can really serve proper coffee when you get there after a long journey.
Convenient stay, beds are a little saggy however as its so close to the N1, it's pretty convenient. Not sure about safety, I left at 3am in the morning and didn't have an issue.
I think they must check that the photo's on the website match the place,
Although the rooms were very clean and tidy, the shower was a big problem! Modern glass doors, but when you have finished showering the whole floor is soaking wet! There was no fridge in the room either!
See the stars.
Perhaps overnight accommodation if you got lost. Cement floors with almost no carpets or rugs. We could understand that the bedding was dirty, previous occupants probably threw it on the floor! No hooks or towel railings. No bed lamps. No soap dish. None! Door lock needs attention. At least there was hot water and a wall heater.
Considering the rate and compared to other accommodations, we expected more. The air conditioning in one of the units, on a sweltering hot day, was ineffective and so noisy that it made sleeping difficult.
Ideal for overnight stay. Not for long-term stays.
Only upon arrival did I realize that I had booked in a "budget" room. It was really disappointing in the heat to only have a small ceiling fan and on top of that it was only cement floors with loose mats on them. At R350 per person per night it is excessive for the quality of the room.
The reception was friendly and the room clean and tidy. However, there were no burglar bars in front of the windows, but although the bathroom was clean, the tiles and floor surfaces are not in good condition! The dinner in the restaurant was good and the service quick and friendly. Although the vehicle was parked in front of the room, there was no security.
No full DStv and cleanliness can be looked at, soap dishes dirty.
If it wasn't for other options not being available at that time of year, I wouldn't have booked.
The website indicated that all the rooms had air-cons, but that wasn't the case. The restaurant is excellent. The budget rooms are extremely small and hot.
Good location, basic accommodation, but clean. Other guest made noise until late at night - not nice when you have to get up early the next day and continue your journey.
Food tasteless. Staff unhelpful. Doesn't feel welcome at all. Virtually no water. Lots of other decent places in town.
The pictures on the internet did not reflect the accommodation we stayed at at all. There wasn't even a kettle in the room so we could utilise the coffee. However, the staff at the bar were friendly and the service good. But I would not return as the price was not worth it.
The room looked neglected. Because there were only a few guests, the restaurant was closed. It's too close to the highway, so the traffic noise was a nuisance.
The most horrible place and service delivery ever. It was 45°C and I booked the room but not even the fan was turning properly and couldn't be told to go faster at all. The room was also very dirty. I then asked the manager for another room and unfortunately there was none. I then badly asked for part of my money back so that I could find and pay for a livable room for our family, which they refused.
The pictures on the website does not accord with the reality. Very disappointed with the unprofessional service. On arrival we were told that the coffees etc. will be brought to us once the kitchen opens, and at this stage we had a long 7 hour journey behind us, we were tired and warm. Then we got a room that stinks, and another that has a warn out mattress. By dinner time, we asked again of we can get the coffee and teas, and then the guy at reception decided to argue with me about it. This guy also confirmed there is an aircon in the dining room, so we decided to sit inside. When I asked the waiter if the aircon was on, he told me it was broken an can only blow warm air. After dinner, and having to drink my Appeltizer from the can because the barman forgot to bring me a glass with ice, despite my repeated requests, I had to pay my bill with another waiter as ours had disappeared. I reported the broken aircon, and again the guy decided to argue with me. Finally we were in our room, relaxed, when there was a knock on the door, it was our waiter, accusing us of not having paid our dinner bill! You can find much better places, at better rates. I suggest TravelGround goes there to see this place.
Old buildings that are very neat and comfortable. Rooms are just what you need with all the amenities. Wasn't it nice to pack up on a 40C summer day and enjoy a cold drink in the bar. The restaurant's menu makes you not know what to choose, but unfortunately the lamb shank was the best in the country. Warm Karoo friendliness the owner chats with you if he knows you.
Nice place near N1. Friendly service and clean rooms.
We slept over in a self-catering unit. The unit has everything you need. Very neat and clean.
Only slept there one night. Nice meal at the restaurant.
Pet friendly and the food in the restaurant is delicious!
The staff was great. The room is old and smells musty. The Ricoffy was horrible! We had room 8 and everything was very neat and clean but it smelled horrible. It smelled like rotten carpets. The room was very small and I had to try to make my way around the desk in the corner. There was about 20 cm of space between the corner of the bed and the desk. The bath water was about lukewarm on a fairly cold evening. Only Ricoffy was available so we drove early without coffee or a bath. The staff were great but Wagon Wheel Country Lodge needs a "facelift", it looks old and even the shade netting in front of the windows is starting to fray. My business deals with many of the resorts including Forever Resorts and their (Wagon Wheel) standard was really below average. In fairness I must say that R590 can probably only buy you so much.
Find real value for money but our shower head didn't work. It couldn't hook anywhere. We were not told in advance that it was a hand shower, but even then its use is very restrictive.
Ideal for sleeping halfway between Bloemfontein and the Cape. Affordable accommodation.
Our short overnight stay was comfortable, bedding is of very good quality, crisp and clean. The garden is beautifully maintained and it was nice to relax in it after our long journey. The only criticism I could make was that the patties of the burgers we ate were not very tasty. The dining room is beautiful and also very clean and the staff very friendly. We will definitely spend the night there again and recommend the resort to our family and friends.
Rooms are neat with good service.
Whilst the lodge is largely wheelchair friendly, both in the room, and into reception and the dining room, I was unable to make use of the shower in the bathroom during our stay. When the wheelchair is in the bathroom, the door of the bathroom completely covers the entrance to the shower, making access impossible for someone who has a physical disability. Perhaps one of the bathrooms in one of the rooms could be modified according to disability guidelines, and kept specifically for visitors who have mobility problems. To any future visitors, please do order the Karoo cutlets or chops in the dining room. The ones we had were the best ever.
Nice place for the overnight tourist. Everything was clean and prices reasonable. Staff friendly and very helpful.
The bedding was of very good quality, neat and clean, but the bathroom needs a lot of attention. Breakfast was good.
Service is great, food was delicious and the people very hospitable. They advertise an air conditioner and fan, but neither works. There was a musty smell in the duplex like something that got wet and then stood. But the place was clean and tidy.
Rates and air conditioning can be upgraded.
The bathrooms could certainly be upgraded, although they are spotless, they are old and don't look that good anymore.
Beds were comfortable and rooms clean, but the bathrooms are a bit small. I do feel it was a lot of money for one night and one sachet of coffee for three people.
As mentioned above, this is very acceptable considering that it only serves as a sleepover event. During the summer the air conditioning is important etc. General impression is that the room is tidy and everything one needs is available.
It was a nice place to sleep over for one night to make the road to the Cape a little shorter.
Clean and tidy and pleasant accommodation conditions.
Even though we found gaps, we see it as room for improvement and would definitely like to spend the night there again. Equipment such as the TV is outdated and the amount of coffee/sugar/milk put out is too little. The room had probably been standing there for a long time and was stuffy. Linen very clean.
Rooms are very small and you feel crammed in. Not value for money at all.
We were moved from room at 9 o'clock in the evening because they made a mistake with the placements. TV did not work and the freezing cold air conditioner made terrible noise. The toilet brush was hanging in the toilet when we got there. Bathroom is in urgent need of renovation.
Hopelessly overpriced for what you get. Kettle was broken with no coffee, tea etc. not. Shower curtain moldy. Rooms are very small and cramped. Good enough to just stay overnight, but price definitely needs to be adjusted.
It was neat, but definitely not value for money. The rooms also lack a small refrigerator and microwave oven.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Was disappointed in the quality of room though. Tiny room with bunk beds for 2 teenagers and double bed for parents. Bedding clean but everything very basic. Bathroom door could not close. Hear the traffic all night on the N1. If you just want to lay your head down for a few hours that's enough. Meals were also very basic. I will not visit again.
Good overnight facility. Trucks running on the N1 are disturbing at night. There is only 1 bag of coffee provided with one milk powder and no tea. The bathroom has a shower over bath which wastes a lot of water. Bedding very nice and neat. Parking place safe.
The unit was very cramped and very basic. The air conditioning did not work. The photos on the website are not a good reflection of the room. The unit is supposed to accommodate 4 people, but is actually only suitable for two adults. I wouldn't pay more than half the price for similar accommodation.
The advertisement promises you a beautiful room with air conditioning and a TV, but in reality the "air conditioning" is actually a fan in the wall hidden behind cupboard doors and you cannot control the temperature or even the speed. So that was probably the biggest disappointment for me. The TV only has SABC channels and one movie channel which only works at certain times with a snowy screen. The remote didn't work either. The restaurant also has no variety at all and what you do get is not at all the quality I would want to pay for in the future.
Maybe the single rooms are better, but the duplex was awful.
A friendly stay.

Was well located and very nice and clean.
It was clean, good service and kids enjoyed swimming in a clean pool. Only thing missing was a fridge to store baby's food.
Reception and accommodation are great.
It was peaceful and nice, the people were very friendly and helpful. The location was good and we found it very pleasant, we would just like to see the bathroom upgraded.
Very good service, friendly reception and very beautiful.
Nice place to sleep! Swimming pool makes the long road's dust wash off quickly!
Wagon Wheel Country Lodge is the ideal overnight facility after a long day on the road. Our "Deluxe" room was clean and tidy and adequately furnished. The air conditioner made a big difference to the 32 degree Karoo heat. We slept soundly and Reception was standing by to receive our key when we hit the road again at 4am.
Can see they are upgrading accommodation. Looks very neat outside, although units inside still look a bit old. But still good value for money, neat and clean.
Nice, clean and comfortable if you just want to spend the night. Service is very good.
The place is very clean and tidy. We also had a very nice meal with them.
The airconditioner was not working properly, the light in the bathroom was broken, the TV could only show 2 channels. The supper cost R145 per person which was too expensive for us, so we had to find elsewhere to eat. The staff however, were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the bed comfortable.
We had a very good stay. However, I must point out that the the plumbing / bathroom in our unit needs some attention.

Seeing that the area receives so little rainfall, why not replace baths with showers?
It was just too simple for us.
Shower head seemed blocked or the water pressure was very low.
The rooms are not tasteful. It's full of cockroaches, grasshoppers and crickets. The one room only has a shower in the tub, so you have to physically get into the tub to shower.
No complaints.
Neat, clean, and comfortable.
Would recommend to anyone looking to stay the night after a long day of driving! Delicious food and atmosphere!
One problem was that the hot water pressure was very low. One can hardly take a shower. The shower head was broken.
Appreciate the fact that animals are allowed. Everyone around us had their dogs there and for that reason I would highly recommend them. Our animals are like children and we appreciate it when other people feel the same as we do.
See the stars below.
The room was pleasant, but we didn't have water to shower in, probably due to the water shortage in the area.
See the stars below.
Pool, bar and sleeping facilities were comfortable, clean and tidy. Comfortable 'halfway house'.
We really enjoyed our stay at Wagon Wheel.
The accommodation was clean, but the bathroom facilities could be improved a lot. The shower head was not working properly.
Everything was well arranged, but we had to wait a long time for food in the restaurant and the food was not as ordered. Breakfast was also nice.
For what you pay, you expect more.
For the overnight stay rate, one expects at least a coffee and sugar packet. There were also no teaspoons available.
