The town was interesting, with lots of good eating spots. The area was good for walks, cycling, and birding, so everyone had something to do.
It was winter, but we were welcomed into a warm and comfortable house. Aga stove was lit and kept the kitchen and dining room warm and toasty. The warm beds were a welcome end to the day. The town is well worth a visit.
It was a very nice farm experience and the hospitality was fantastic.

This place is awful the pictures of the place are from years ago. There are cracks in the walls, the place has not been upkept. This has ruined our weekend and we are leaving tomorrow. I paid and extra R3000 for extra guest to him directly. I require a refund for the 1 night we will not be staying. Awful place, should be taken off the website immediately and spare the money people work hard for. Owner avoids calls and WhatsApp!
Our family stayed in the peaceful farmhouse, which was spacious, neat and clean. Emma kindly received us and is a very good host who went out of her way to make our stay enjoyable. We will definitely use the accommodation again. Very nice old furniture that reminded us of our childhood. We will definitely recommend it to our friends and family.
A beautiful old house with the most beautiful antiques and family history. It is very quiet and safe with a large garden. Emma was an excellent hostess. Will confidently recommend Wakkerstroom Farm Lodge to friends and family.
The Oom Hans cottage is itself not too bad and very rustic, but the toilet needs to be restored to a working condition. The access road at the gate is one large pool of mud where even the 4x4 that was sent to come help us get out, was struggling. We had two people of 80 years plus with us, one with a walking stick, who had to struggle through the mud and long grass to the cottage, and thick clay sticking to our shoes. Totally unacceptable!
It was wonderful to be able to experience the tranquility of the farmhouse with its old furniture. Emma is a wonderful person.
We all enjoyed the attention to detail. It was very clean and nothing was lacking in terms of an overnight stay. The tradition is apparent. We all wanted to know if there was any history of past ancestor presence in the place. It was peaceful but it could still be felt by some.
Contact number given was not answered and messages were not returned until much later. Second geyser was not activated. We were 10 people, so definitely had to use second bathroom. Emma was very helpful and friendly.
This farmhouse with its old-fashioned feel. It offers value for money. The rooms are very neat and Emma was a pleasant surprise. The environment is quiet and this silence is only interrupted by the wonderful birdsong! We came as a group to bird watch together and our expectations were exceeded! I recommend Wakkerstroom Farm Lodge with confidence! Thank you very much again!
Very nice stay. Wonderful large farmhouse with rich history. Rooms are large and comfortable.
Although there is no power, there were lamps that worked and lovely hot water from the gas geyser. The books were an absolute bonus and I wish we could have stayed longer just so we could read more of the books! Can definitely recommend it!
We spent one night in the Oom Hans Cottage. The cottage was clean and although there is no electricity, everything worked well (gas geyser, fridge, stove). Decor is a bit old-fashioned but it adds to the old-fashioned farmhouse feel. Wonderful view from the veranda and definitely worth it for those who are not too worried about luxuries.

My husband and I so enjoyed the beautiful wetland areas with the prolific bird life. We were warmly welcomed by the bird-club and can definitely recommend the restaurants in Wakkerstroom who handled the challenge of load-shedding with aplomb. We will be back!
Uncle Hans' cottage is very basic without electricity. However, the solar lamps work great, the gas shower too and the bed is lovely. The cottage itself needs a little maintenance here and there, but for what you get it is truly value for money. Furthermore, the silence is audible and the view fantastic!
