161 guests' feedbackWe spent a weekend in 'Schoeman's Cottage'. The farm is nestled between the mountains, which was a lovely surprise as I had the Karoo as simply 'flat' in my head. There is a creek rustling through, which creates a lovely atmosphere. 'Schoeman's Cottage' is close to the main buildings, which makes it less 'solitary', but we still had complete privacy. The braai area is private and has shade from massive trees, so it was a lovely place to just rest and relax. There were so many birds, and my kids had complete freedom to explore, play in the creek, etc. The cottage was built in 1820, so it has thick stone walls. We hit some cold weather and it was quite cold inside. We built a lovely fire in the fireplace which made it cozy. Take some warm clothes and slippers though as I think the weather can be unpredictable, even in spring. We took the hike to God's Balcony, which was quite tough (we're moderately fit) but well worthwhile. Our hosts were extremely friendly and made us feel welcome and comfortable. Hope to visit again one day.
We immediately felt at home, were kindly received even by the site pets. The unit is much more spacious than the photos show. The wildlife in the area is a special experience, wish we could have stayed longer!
It was definitely worth it.
Very unique cottage and a very special experience.
In one word: Breathtaking!
We had a wonderful stay! The only reason for 4/5 for location is because the accommodation is only accessible with a higher vehicle, and we were not aware of that. But in terms of setting and experience it was a 5/5 for sure! And we would love to go again (with a higher vehicle in the future).
Nice stay. Smaller part of dirt road not good: "zinc plate".
A bath in the open air, clean air, natural beauty, what more could one ask for.
It was our 2nd visit to Waterval Farm, we were received with such warmth, it felt like we were visiting family. Our boy (2 years old) was pretty much spoiled with wire carts and played himself silly in the Karoo plains. It was cold and rainy but we were still able to go for a walk and had a great time by the fireplace. Lovely hot shower and bed. Definitely worth it for someone who loves the Karoo.
Away from the city, in nature with nice hiking trails. Friendly reception and a house that offers everything that is needed. Highly recommended for nature lovers. Thank you very much for the privilege of being able to visit there.
My birding son loved the opportunity for all the birds. No loadshedding and wonderful night skies.
Lovely friendly hosts. Such an amazing location with lots of opportunities to go on short walks or even longer hikes. Clean and well-equipped accommodation. Highly recommended.
Gryshuisie is truly a welcome place where you can relax and forget about the wider world. We had a great time and relaxed.
Beautiful, peaceful, neat place. Friendly people.
The road to the farm is quite long and a bit rough. It takes about 40 minutes to an hour to travel from the main road to the farm. You can drive the road in a saloon but a car 4x4 is best suited for the road.
It was clean, friendly and in a great area.
Very scenic road leading to the guesthouses. Paddadam is by far the most rustic and scenic room of them all. Lots of vintage furniture and decoration. A real treat. Would visit Waterval again.
Ample space for our extended family of 7. Hot water, electricity and beautiful nature. A bit far out for just one night, two nights would be nice to fully enjoy the farm's nature (walking trails).
Deep in the Karoo you will find rest. You will enjoy good hospitality with your friends. The silence makes you appreciate life more and the hiking trails are where you can walk a path. With no catching up, bonds are formed that will last forever! Amazing wildlife makes you not long for the city.
Amazing! Dirt road a bit rough, but worth it. Friendly people. Beautiful nature, silence was amazing.
We experienced wonderful hospitality at the Waterfall Farm-Stay. The owners were helpful and very good company. It's a picturesque location with many walks to do and animals to see. Prepare yourself properly before you enter the dirt road so that you have everything you will need for your period here and do not have to drive out unnecessarily.
Enjoyed it terribly.
It is a wonderful place to break away from civilization into nature. The atmosphere is peaceful and there are enough hiking trails to keep you busy.
Waterval is a hidden gem. Just the right place for an escape. So peaceful. Herdershuisie is a charming old Sheperd's house filled with historic memories. Kerkhuisie was the old sheperd's church. Both renovated keeping the farm feeling alive. When you go to the farm you really escape from it all, which include TV and WiFi, offering you time to connect with yourself and your loved ones. Booked 3 nights on our way to coast. Wish we booked for a longer period. This will be part of our holidays going forward. Thank you Ansie and Johan.
Just you and the scenery. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a peaceful atmosphere. Love love love it. The waterfall and God's Window are beautiful.
Fresh air, stars and friendly people.
Beautifully furnished. Lovely gardens, perfect for a cute and romantic getaway. Artistic secret gardens leading to hiking trails outside are fascinating. A nice place to hideaway from from the hustle and bustle of the city. Love the ambiance and the friendly owners make it all that more special. Love it!
I think being 4 adults we should have opted for two bathrooms, but that was my fault. Johan and Ansie we such a delight! Pleasant and welcoming, and most definitely going the extra mile! Thank you.
The hosts are amazing and went beyond expectation.
The farm is on a 30 km dirt road from the N1. If road is good, no problem. Otherwise count on an extra hour.
Ons het 2 lieflike aande by Waterval Plaas geniet, het die rus en vrede geniet, en die pragtige omgewing. Sal definitief aanbeveel.
We wanted to stay on a farm rather than in Graaff-Reinet itself, and this was an ideal stopover for us on our way to Bergkwagga National Park. It was nice to be able to experience the old-fashioned farm setting and the Karoo natural beauty and animal life. The dirt road on the way to the farm after dark, the waterfall the next morning and the incredible back road route to Bergkwagga afterwards. The dirt road is quite bad in places, but worth it. The cold front spoiled our swimming plans, but we enjoyed the fireplace! The fireplace still smoked quite a bit inside the house, so maybe a chimney problem that needed to be sorted out. We spent the night in Schoeman's Cottage. Waterval Farm-Stay is definitely recommended, and we would stay there again anytime.
Beautiful, quiet and tidy place with everything you need. Hiking trails, animals and beautiful starry nights. If you like silence and the Karoo, this is a place for you. We will definitely visit again!
Paddadam was one of the best self-catering units we have ever stayed in. It has a lot of character and has everything one needs. Was fantastic to be able to relax in front of a nice fireplace. We enjoyed the stargazing and the waterfall. Was sorry we didn't book longer.
Unique cottage and very cute private braai area. The God's Balcony hike was worth it with a beautiful view.
We stayed in a gray house on the way between Overberg and Johannesburg. Was wonderfully quiet and private. Nice outside braai area. Spacious inside. Nice environment. Would easily stay another night.
It was a nice place, with hiking trails. Did book an extra day specially for horse riding as the website advertises, but could not ride a horse. Children were very disappointed.
We only stayed one night. Would highly recommend Waterfall to anyone looking to explore the area.
We thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality, cleanliness of cottages and the peaceful farm environment! Many thanks Johan and Ansie, one of the highlights of our holiday.
What a discovery! 30 km outside Graaff-Reinet, on my farm. Our cottage had no electricity, just candles and lamps. Just the way we wanted it. Made a fire, fried meat. Put up wood and lingered long into the night. The most beautiful starry sky that unfolds above you. Johan and his wife are boss hosts. Thank you very much. A real experience in a piece of heaven here in our own country!
Die wegbreek was fantasties.
Now this place was a surprise! very cute and with the friendly service, you must try it!
I would definitely recommend it!
A very peaceful farm environment out in the dry Karoo. The cottage had that 'outydse' vibe. Outside was very pretty with potted plants and quirky decor. There were friendly cats, chickens and meerkats to see and swings for our grandson to enjoy. We enjoyed the walk to the waterfall with its very unusual rock formation. My husband enjoyed the more strenuous walk up to God's Balcony. I slept very well in the warm, comfortable bed. Johan was a helpful, friendly host.
If you are looking for tranquillity away from the busy life; if you want to experience the charming simplicity of the Karoo in the winter, this is the place for you. We hiked to the mountain, Gods Balcony, with its astonishing views, visited the Valley of Desolation, read and played games in front of the fire place, sat around the open fire at night and watched the stars. So much for the kids to do - and for them to experience a working farm with all the animals.
The shepherd's cottage is a very unique homely place to stay. We really enjoyed the simple and very exquisite layout of the cottage. Very friendly reception and they go out of their way to make you feel at home. Would really recommend it to people who like the tranquility of the Karoo. Will definitely want to stay there again one day.
Although it takes approx 40 mins to get there from Graaff-Reinet due to the gravel road, this makes it the ideal getaway. Although I'm South African, I have lived in Taipei for 10 years and an old University friend from France came to spend time with his South African family and we decided to go on a roadtrip. We both wanted to spend time together under the stars, catching up and recalling good memories, outside around the fire, no electricity or modern distractions, just us with a guitar and delicious local meat bought from butcheries in town, perfect for a braai! We stayed in the only cottage that is off the grid and perfect for outdoor living. We enjoyed the isolation and the hikes on the property like God's Balcony, it was just breathtaking! Although Waterval is not for everyone, it was exactly what we were looking for. I would recommend it to those looking to get away from civilisation and reconnect with what's really important, free of modern distractions. Ansie and Johan Malherbe were the perfect hosts! Kind, generous and full of information and insight into the area. I would definitely go again.
The road to Waterval is not ideal for a regular sedan vehicle, but upon arrival, all was forgotten! The location and accommodation are so charming, the owners welcoming and the stars breathtaking. Due to the drought, we were encouraged to save water. If Waterval is lovely without water, we can only imagine how lovely it would be after the rain! We will definitely be back!
Unbelievable sense of peace and isolation in this special place. Nice walks and roads to ride mountain bikes. Cottage excellently equipped. We took our two big dogs and it was no issue at all. Owner is great at communicating and accommodating. Wonderful stop for a night and ideally more.
Friendly hosts and nice facility.
The farm is isolated with good housing for every taste, the right place to just become aware of our dependence on the Lord and nature, just to rewind and know that there are places in our country where farm life and the hospitality of the owners make you feel right at home and simply want to stay longer. A real gem to visit in the Karoo, but all the necessary facilities are there.
Very well received by the owner. I expected more for the price. There were an awful lot of flies and still recommend that mesh windows and mesh doors should definitely be fitted.
Over the years it remains a must to stop there on the way to the sea.
The Gryhuis is full of character with antique furniture and a beautiful view of the Karoo mountains. The cottage is privately located and the surroundings are wonderfully quiet. Johan and Ansie are nice people and made us feel very welcome and gave us information about the activities to enjoy on the farm.
Must come and stay for more than one night. Thank you Johan!
See stars.
Off the beaten track. Very peaceful and kids will love the farm environment. Very quiet and with no ambient light, the night time skies are amazing. Very well furnished and quaint little houses. The 8 sleeper is plenty big enough and affords privacy. The road is bad for the first 8 km, but then really opens up on some spectacular Karoo scenery. Definitely a welcome stop on our trip from Sedgefield to Johannesburg.
We were surprised by the beautiful scenery, comfort and tranquility on the farm. We were able to relax by the fireplace after a cold day and slept soundly and safely.
In the deep Karoo where the night sky is all the entertainment you need. Well equipped. Take the approach road slowly. Wood was expensive at R100 a wheel barrow when we were quoted R20 a bag.
Not knowing what to expect, we embarked on the scenic drive off the main highway, up into the mountains, we drank in our surroundings as we ascended the gravel road towards our destination. On arrival we were rewarded with a quaint house, spotlessly clean and decorated to the extent that it could keep any age of person occupied for quite a while. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, even with the interruption of load shedding, in fact after being supplied with 2 solar lanterns, we sat outside and enjoyed the perfect evening, having a braai under the stars.
If you like a real farm away from the noise of the town or main road, the location is great. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the hiking trails. The starry sky is very nicely visible so far from the town lights. We were privileged to experience rain on the last day in the Karoo. We would like to go back when it has rained well and the Karoo is at its most beautiful. It will be a privilege to see if the waterfall comes down in full force.
We really enjoyed the stay on the farm. The Gryshuisie is well equipped, clean and tidy. Ansie and Johan were very friendly. The farm is close to Graaff-Reinet, but far enough to experience a real farm experience.
I stayed at Waterval Farmstay in the Kerk Huisie with six friends. It was a bright and easy space to stay in with a wonderful fireplace in the kitchen. We were supplied with many blankets to stay warm and it quickly started feeling like home. I couldn't recommend staying here more! Besides the long drive on gravel road to the farmstay, it was all absolutely delightful.
See stars.
We loved our stay here. We brought along food for the entire time and spent our days on the farm: hiking up to God's balcony and the waterfall, mountain-biking, sheep and lamb watching and chilling. Best views of the night skies from the herdershuisie and a friendly rooster that kept us company.
Secluded and quiet. Excellent customer service.
The location of the waterfall is truly unique! We perceived Paddam-huisie as one of its kind and as something special even in the winter. Ansie was 'n good host and made sure she kept contact from the moment we booked and answered all our questions. Our three dogs were welcome and that is what is most important to us\1 The quiet, scenery en unique details was precious.
Real farm stay, wonderful visit with our hosts and my son enjoyed the farm feeling very much.
Real farm accommodation, neat and clean.
Unfortunately, this place was not equipped for 8 people, not to mention children. Only 1 toilet that didn't even flush without us having to add water to the bowl. Very very small fridge, our meat that we wanted to grill that night didn't even fit. No ice on premises, even though it is very hot. Dry and 30 km dirt road to the cottage. Also not suitable for your pets.
This place has too much dirt road to drive to reach the farm.
Thank you, Ansie and Johan, for the nice stay we had. The Schoeman's house felt like a true farm stay. We strolled around. The climb to God's balcony was absolutely worth it. Beautiful view. Kids enjoyed the swimming pool. Catered to all our needs.
A wonderful place. Beautiful stars. Pet friendly. Comfortable, tidy with all the necessary facilities.
Waterfall Farm-Stay and its people are definitely to be recommended! We have never experienced such hospitality at any other place we have stayed. To describe the detail of the decor (not only inside but also outside) is difficult because there are few adjectives to convey it - exquisite, unique and homely. We could really just "be" and recharge our batteries and relax under the Karoo stars and full moon! Frog Pond (although very hot because it was December) is absolutely unique and an experience. However, all the other "cottages" are also indescribable! Although the road to Waterfall was quite bad, the "prize" at the end of it is worth it! We will definitely go back and can recommend it. Thank you Johan and Ansie for your effort and hospitality - you feel like family and not host/wife! If you want to rest and spend time with yourself and your loved ones, Waterfall is the place!
A beautiful Karoo farm where the tranquility overcomes you and you can relax. We were very warmly welcomed and Gray Cottage is a beautiful neat and clean cottage. We only stayed one night and will sleep over more than one night for sure next time. This stay was very good value for money. Next time we will also try the hiking trails.
The farm is beautiful and to wake up in the Karoo in a traditional Karoo house was an unbelievable privilege. Johan is an excellent host. This is a once in a lifetime experience.
A lot of effort has been made to ensure comfort and a wonderful stay. The hiking trails are very nice. Frog Pond is a winner!
Thank you very much for your hospitality and an unforgettable weekend. Will come back again.
Dit was baie lekker en rustig. Sal definitief weer by Johan en Ansie gaan kuier en die res van die familie ook saamvat soontoe.
Frog Dam is ideal for resting and breaking away from the modern lifestyle. Reading books by candlelight and a fire in the fireplace takes us Afrikaners back to our roots and it feels good. There is quite a lot to do on the farm in terms of MTB, walking and 4x4, although we mostly just walked. The stars in the evening were breathtaking and it felt like you could touch them, so clear and clean is the sky. Johan was very hospitable and all our needs were met. We will try to make this an annual institution.
Few places like that to go and forget about everything. The owner made a lot of effort to make the stay private and comfortable. Waterval is far out of town and one cannot fully appreciate the farm and surroundings by staying just one night. They will see us again for a longer time.
The people, the farm animals, the picturesque location and the fantastic accommodation all contributed to the most unforgettable weekend. On the way back home we have already started making plans to return again soon.
We were warmly welcomed in a lovely environment. The house was cosy and it has everything you need. We also hiked to God's Window, that has a beautiful view, and there were good directions everywhere. We took our pets with and they were also welcome and safe. We'll definitely stay there again.
Friendly hosts and even though it was raining, we enjoyed a quiet night under the mountain. The cottage was clean and welcoming. We will definitely recommend this accommodation to friends and family.
It's a 30 km dirt road to Waterval Farm-Stay and not so "accessible" with a regular car when it rains. Apart from that it is a lovely place and the owner is very hospitable.
A beautiful little house (Frog Pond), in a very nice environment. Unfortunately there was no time to walk much - good reason to come again and stay longer.
Environment: An oasis for the soul! Accommodation: A dollhouse for adults. Host and hostess: Easygoing, well-read, educated, unpretentious. Sleep with the top door open while the full moon and starry sky illuminate the whole environment. It's not just a place to stay the night; it's a place to linger: we're going to make it (DV) an annual institution.
The owners, Ansie and Johan immediately made us feel at home on arrival. The silence and nature are fantastic. After a long journey from Pretoria on the way to Mossel Bay this is definitely becoming one of my favorite overnight stops and would recommend it to anyone.
We had a wonderful rest. Comfortable, clean and tidy. It's a long way on the dirt road, but it was worth it. Thank you very much for your hospitality, Johan and Ansie.
Waterval Farm-Stay is for those of us who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, want to relax a bit and forget about cell phones and television. The surroundings are very peaceful and there are nice walking and climbing routes on the farm. One needs to switch off every now and then, Waterval is the perfect place to do that. The road unfortunately makes it difficult for the BMWs and Audis with low-profile tires, but that's part of the "charm" of Waterfall, it's still in pristine nature. We will definitely visit there again. The host was very friendly and we lacked nothing during our short stay there.
Well equipped for an overnight or longer stay. Bathroom is neat and clean. Open fireplace in kitchen takes me back. Very romantic!
Incredibly friendly people, the Gryshuisie is a beautiful place. 33 km of dirt road is just a long way to drive and not very good everywhere, but worth it for the experience.
The gravel road was bad at some times, but luckily we were warned about this before hand. We saw a lot of game. The cottage reminded us of our grandfathers farm house and had everything that we needed. We relaxed under the shade of the trees and gazed at the stars at night. The peace and quiet en the darkness at night was exactly what we needed. We loved it.
Had a nice stay. Just a long gravel road.
Just hard to find, especially getting the right turn to get there. Better signs and directions would help a lot.
We arrived at about 17:00 with light snow falling, absolutely amazing, and headed off to the Herdershuisie, which looked cute. The fireplace in the lounge area, with 1 bed in it, smokes terribly as the wooden lintel smoulders after a while and the whole room fills with smoke. The door and windows of the house don’t seal, so you get freezing air into the house all through the night. There are are no ceilings in Herdershuisie, so it’s freezing in winter and must cook you in summer. No complementary firewood is supplied with the house. You have to buy wood at R25 a bag . We went through 7 in night one night, as the kids slept in front off the fireplace in the kitchen area and burnt all the wood to stay warm. The shower is a joke, 5 fine sprinkles and the gas geyser is either to hot or off, plus we had no hot water on the last night. I checked out Gryshuisie before the next guests arrived. This is what I would have expected at Herdershuisie. The walks on the farm are beautiful and the hike to Gods Balcony is a must with its spectacular views. I would not stay in Herdershuisie for free, especially for 4 nights.
We had a very nice stay. People are friendly and hospitable.
The perfect place to rest after a long day's travel - the silence and the stars are amazing!
Wonderful place to stay. Friendly reception and nice chats with owners. Gray house well equipped!
Really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful farm.
The most amazing venue, in all my travels I have not met more helpful and hospitable hosts. The view at night was just the most amazing experience.
The house is spotlessly clean, everything you need is there, even clothesline and pins. Farm is a bit far out of town, so people should keep in mind that the 27 km long dirt road feels pretty long, but the farm makes it worth it. The owners are stunning and very welcoming, the tame meerkats are fantastic to see. House is very nice to stay in, I will definitely come back here again one day. Definitely worth it. A little too many ornaments in the house, but it didn't bother me, the environment and nice linen made up for it. The children did complain about their mattresses on the single beds, they were very soft, but that's a small thing!
This is not what we expected, but exceeded all expectations. If you want to be pampered, it's not for you. If you love life and would like to be close to nature, we can definitely recommend this place. Very primitive but great. You'll know you are in nature, on a farm and there is nothing bothering you. We will definitely make a plan to stay here again, for more than one night next time.
I intended to show a German visitor a South African farm. The small house we were renting was tastefully furnished in a classic / antique style. It also had an open fireplace and the hosts provided us with wood from the farm. Our accommodation and the nearby farmhouse were lovingly well maintained demonstrating the extra care and dedication of the owners. Unfortunately, due to the recent draught in the area, the waterfall and the natural pool were close to dry. Yet there is a swimming pool next to the farmhouse embedded in a lovely rose garden. If you are looking for a countryside breakaway Waterval Farm-Stay can only be recommended and is definitely worth accepting the gravel road leading to it, making it a quiet and safe hideaway. It lived up to all my expectations. Me and my German visitor enjoyed it tremendously.
Beautiful frog pond cottage. Quiet, private and pristine. 'Rustic', but very comfortable and clean. And incredible 'attention to detail'! The house contains everything that is needed. We felt so welcome. And loves the animals! One night is too little!
The friendliest (but not intrusive) hosts in a beautiful place.
The road to the house was beautiful and the house was very neat and well furnished. We braaied the night under most beautiful stars I have ever seen and when the lights were out the silence closed around us and we could rest peacefully! It was unbelievable!
Very nice and neat. Owner is very pleasant. Children enjoyed themselves so much!
Waterval Farm-Stay was a big surprise. The house is beautiful and well equipped. The owners Johan and Ansie, are beautiful people who make you feel so welcome. The area is gorgeous and the stars are incredible to see. I will definitely recommend it. Pity we couldn't stay longer.
Hospitality overwhelming, neat, fully equipped and the biggest bonus is no cell phone signal, except WiFi at reception if you really have to. Had a wonderful rest and relaxation. Note that the dirt road of almost 30 km will be an ordeal for any vehicle except a bakkie or 4x4. However, the ending makes it more than worth it. An oasis on the doorstep of "God's balcony".
Blissful Karoo hospitality where no cell phone will be able to work. Everything was neat and clean upon our arrival, and our host and wife were friendly. Gryshuisie is suitable for a small family, with all the basic amenities that go with a cottage. The bathroom is particularly spacious. The waterfall that cascades over the domed ironstone should be spectacular when it rains again. When the sky clears, the starry sky above the wharf is vivid, with no town lights in sight. Just close the doors and windows when you go on the various hiking trails, because the kese are cunning and come out of the mountain field early in the morning.
Very nice and peaceful, I can recommend it.
See stars.
Frog dam was a great surprise, romantic with lamps, in nature, surrounded by mountains, birds' songs that wake you up and monkeys coming to say good morning. We will definitely visit again.
The perfect weekend getaway from the city, where the host and hostess meet every expectation of warm hospitality, and with delicious options for walks and views to truly lead you back to nature.
Typical Karoo accommodation that will change your perception of the Karoo.
Real farm visit in peaceful and secluded surroundings.
Good value for money, everything you need for an overnight stay. Hosts are very friendly. Only drawback was the moths that were everywhere, despite closed windows, so that we had to put the lights out early and go to sleep.
No water in the waterfall but the prickly pears were in full bloom and the walk to God's Balcony very special
See stars.
For us it was wonderful to stay without TV but with everything else you need, in breathtaking surroundings in a very clean, very unique house with the most beautiful things to rest properly and "connect" with your family .
Wonderful, scenic place! Our whole family had such a great time relaxing, we will definitely be going back.
Feel free to see the stars.
Was amazed to find this oasis in the midst of the mountains. We had a good night's sleep after being on the road for 11 hours.
Will go back to Waterfall Farm Stay again anytime. Experienced really excellent service.
We were received generously and the place was beautiful.
Ensure that when you turn off to Erasmuskloof, you keep an eye on the kilometer-meter on your car. The road is quite a challenge and because I forgot to check my kilometers, I almost chose to turn around a few times! But I am so happy that I didn't! It is truly the nicest, quietest farm stay ever! I so wish I had more time than just one night to spend at this place. The house is beautiful with so much personal detail, lovely angora-hair blankets - very luxurious! And then come the surprises - two of the cutest, fattest mongoose you could ever hope to meet. And they are tame! The owners are very interesting people with lots of stories for you. It was a wonderful experience to be able to hold a mongoose! Thanks for a wonderful stay.
Beautiful farm, difficult to find at night, make sure you use the GPS coordinates that they proved. Got great sleep and the people are very friendly.
Will definitely visit again and recommend to others - just be prepared for a slow drive as the road is bumpy and corrugated, but so worth it when you get to your destination. Do take a walk to the waterfall!
Wonderful place to stay. Will definitely be going back. Awesome atmosphere, wonderful hospitality and wonderful surroundings.
Everything we hoped for...and more! A touching landscape with warm hospitality! Thank you very much.
The municipally responsible dirt road deserves attention, but the stay on the farm was incredible! We arrived with expectations, and expectations were soon exceeded and we left with buckets full of memories! Every special detail of our stay was amazing. The hospitality was a pleasant experience and the animals and sounds on the farm a feast! We will definitely visit there again!
We spent 2 nights at Gryshuisie. The experience of being on the farm with no cellphone signal and no disturbances alone is worth the trip. The owners go out of their way to accommodate you, even going so far as to arrange items we left behind to be returned to us. Between the horse rides, goats, tame meerkats and swimming in the farm pool both children(8 and 13 years) were never bored. A true gem. We will definitely be returning time and again.
Very friendly hosts. Wonderful, quiet environment where one can get quiet again and enjoy nature as well as farm life. The young people really enjoyed the horses.
A cosy, well-equipped cottage on a Karoo farm - great stay!
It was very cold, but we hung out around the fire and stayed warm. We fit in a short walk to waterfalls. Overall it was very nice. We were welcomed very kindly. The cottage we stayed in is right next to the main house. I would like to be a little bit more private. There is little storage space in the kitchen considering that it is self-catering and we have packed all our food for the weekend. The sleeping place is very nice and we had more than enough extra blankets for the cold. I would recommend Waterfall Farm-Stay for a weekend getaway. It's not luxurious at all, but still very nice.
Only road that is bad, but otherwise very nice and peaceful.
It was nice to be able to sit back and rest on the green grass in the shade of big trees after a long drive from Johannesburg. Johan and Ansie are nice people who come to greet you when you arrive. The children were immediately up and away to look at all the farm things. The drive in was long, but worth it!
Nice! Very hospitable and friendly owners.
Was great staying in summer and looking forward to returning again in winter.
Really lovely spot - would have happily stayed longer. Friendly hosts, clean and quaint accommodation, lovely setting.
We will stay longer next time, it's definitely worth the drive. Very friendly reception, tidy and well equipped.
It was really nice and wonderful nature clean.
We visited Gryshuisie for a 2 night stay mid-July. The hosts are very friendly. Lots to do on farm and lots to see, the staff are also very friendly and helpful. We did some horse riding, saw lots of animals and had a relaxing weekend, because we love outdoors and 4 x 4 rides, the 27 kilos on the "non tarred" road was no problem. People that do not love the out doors should not bother. This is for the people that loves a challenge, not for boring ghost souls!! Awesome weekend!
Although we only stayed one night, it was a great experience. The tranquility away from everything and everyone, the environment, the atmosphere in the house, the hospitality of Johan and Ansie... It is worth the 27 km dirt road through Erasmuskloof! Go experience it! Go breathe it in!
We arrived late in the evening, but the host was friendly and very helpful. The road there was magnificent and the horses came to welcome us at the windows the next morning. We will definitely stay there again. Thank you very much.

From the initial enquiry to the final good-bye it was a great experience. The patrons are so passionate about what they do and offer. We will change our holiday plans to be able to stay longer as we would love to do the walks on the farm and explore the area. In this quiet serene setting, without even a cellphone to bother you, the soul gets to rest. The rooms are spacious and of high standard. We would recommend this facility to all our friends with similar interests. Check the road conditions in the rainy season with the owners before you arrive.
The little gray house is the most beautiful place on a special farm. The owners and farm workers were very friendly and helpful. We felt right at home. We especially enjoyed the run in the dirt road. The route to the farm is beautiful, but maybe a little long for travelers in a hurry.

We loved the farm-life and the environment, lovely hosts.
Will sleep there again. Needs time though as it is quite far from the main route.
Nice location on the farm. A bit far from the main road but worth it!
The road to the cottage is a bit bad, but driveable! Good value for money.
Very nice and people very friendly!
The road to the cottage is reasonable and the landscape is beautiful. The cottage is spacious and tastefully furnished. You step into another world there. The host and wife were friendly and hospitable and we also met the helpful neighbor from the farm next door.
After 27 km on a dirt road, the house is definitely rewarding.
