The sleeping area is furnished with a queen-size bed that was built from the wood of the Sybille gunboat that washed out on the shore in 1901. The bathroom offers lovely views of the farm and the ocean in the distances. The bathroom has a large bathtub and a shower that is built into the rock formation. All linen, bath towels and Rooibos soap are provided.
The kitchenette is equipped with a 2-plate stove and mini-oven, a fridge, kettle and crockery and cutlery. Leading from the unit is a verandah with an outdoor table with benches and a braai drum on wheels. Guests will need to bring with enough wood and groceries supplies as the nearest town is 8 km away.

Absolutely awesome for a romantic getaway. The beautiful weather was a blessing. The view is amazing. The entire experience is worth every cent! The woodfired hot tub would have been a plus, but maybe next time.
It was the most special place, so in the middle of nature one feels the love of our Creator! For sure we will make a visit there again. Fudge and the cat are absolutely the icing on the cake for that warm feeling of home! Thank you very much for allowing us to experience that gem of a place.

Wow wow, where does one begin to describe the place. It was a lovely head clearing break. Climbing the caves and hill was our highlight with a picnic at the top, where we could see as far as Lamberts Bay.

The caves are fantastic and if you sit on the top of the cave and watch the world go by, I tell my wife welcome to my farm, sorry I never told you. It's just a joke. The sunrise and sunset were so beautiful. The silence, the chandeliers of stars at night. The location is perfect. Away from the noise, but close enough if you need something urgent from town (8 km). The rich history, the caves, the labyrinth made everything that much more special. We could connect with each other and nature, exactly what we wanted. Fudge the Jack Russell who came to visit every day crept deep into our hearts. We said goodbye to this beautiful piece of heaven on earth and will definitely go again. A unique experience - beautiful location. The blanket on the bed was not whole. But otherwise it was a peaceful, soulful and relaxing getaway. Blissful for the soul.

Everything in the cave was nice and tidy, beautiful shells and other things strategically placed as decoration. A completely different experience. My husband and I were able to climb to the top of the rock and from the "roof" of the cave the view was breathtakingly beautiful. It was just one wonderful experience. Thank you very much.

Best getaway, best getaway.
Enjoyed the unique cave experience and the beautiful sunsets. The noise from the nearby railway line was all that was disturbing at times.
My wife enjoyed the place from the first moment. Everything was nice and clean and really enjoyed the two days there. The stairs are just not for someone who has a problem walking. Because we were on tour, we had to carry everything up and down the stairs probably six times. Unfortunately, there was no one to receive us, nor during the course of the period. Only problem for me is that the braai facilities are not up to standard. We then just made a potty. Would definitely recommend the cave.
We would have appreciated if they had informed us that there were road works. It may not be their responsibility, but it is thoughtful. The owner also could not say for sure if there was a fan or not. Our visit was during a heat wave and when I asked via Whatsapp on the way if there was a fan, the short answer was: "Don't know, think so". The crockery was not washed properly, plates and forks still had food bits on them. I understand that COVID does not require a contact bell, but it would be nice to put a welcome card in the cottage, or welcome guests via Whatsapp.
It's an experience that I believe everyone will experience differently. Here you have time to stop, think, empty and recharge.

Die Grotjie is perfect in every way. This was our second visit, because the first time was so good. Can hardly believe it could be even more delicious. Die Grotjie is perfect in every way. Ideal for those who like peace and quiet. So many interesting exhibits inside the Grotjie. There are birds, animals and the train to enjoy from the veranda and if you want to walk or drive there is the most beautiful scenery.
This little place is amazingly hidden and allows you to charge your batteries and just become one with nature again. Albert and Carol go out of their way to make people feel special. We recommend it anytime for people who just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Will definitely go back there.

After a lot of wild months, we were only too eager for a quiet place far from people. The West Coast Grotjie exceeded all our expectations. It's a beautiful place with the most beautiful flowers and animal life. There's plenty to do on the farm and it's close enough to Lamberts Bay for everything you need, including the nicest restaurants like Muisboskerm (our favourite) and Isabella. The Cave itself has everything a couple needs to look after themselves and was an excellent place to just relax and enjoy the beautiful veld, birds and animals. We would love to visit again and give Fudge, the Jack Russel, a shot.
They need to provide suitable pots and pans, the ones in the grotjie are badly rusted and not usable for cooking. We had luckily brought our own.

We decided to break away for our 5th wedding anniversary and are so grateful to have found West Coast Cave! It's an absolute gem where we could relax, with the most beautiful sunrise and sunset. Besides overlooking the farm and the sea, the iron ore train also runs through the farm. We could breathe again and get rid of the city rush. So much care has been put into the exposition of the cave. It is convenient, comfortable and has all the essentials. West Coast Cave we will definitely see again!

We've done the West Coast Hockey thing and simply had to do the Grotjie thing too. Both were a wonderful experience that you can happily only share with your other half. I happened to stumble across this gem by accident when looking for an easily accessible place "far away from the maddening crowds" for a little down time. The photos don't do it justice. Someone far more creative than I put this space together - I really enjoyed the thought that must have gone into creating the place. How often does one get to say that they "lived in a cave" for a couple of days. Peace and quiet was the order of the day - exactly what's required to recharge the batteries a little. I'll definitely be back, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone else. Well done to the owners for being willing to share this place with the rest of us.
This is a real gem in terms of unusual accommodation. Sleep in a cave, but with all the comforts of home. Peaceful, and with the exception of a train that comes past once in a while, it's quiet. Bird life in amazing. You can hear and see the ocean from the veranda and the sunset was beautiful. It's worth mentioning though, if you are walking-disabled, the path from the car to the cottage is not paved, still kept rustic, so loose sand and stones. I would also recommend taking camping chairs with as the benches and chairs on the veranda are not very comfortable, but that is a personal preference. I would definitely go back and recommend the property to friends.

The Weskus Grotjie is delightful and well furnished. Tranquility, except for the long train now and then. Nice view over the field and sea. You can have a nice walk on the farm roads and barbecue on the stoep. We only had one problem. It was with the hot water in the bath. However, the sink's hot water was no problem. Don't know about the shower.
Just like the West Coast Hockey, this cave is an experience! Nicely furnished for two people and we had a good time barbecuing and hanging out on the stoepie which has a beautiful view.

When I booked it Sandy was apprehensive as we had spent a few freezing nights in Springbok. We arrived mid afternoon and the sun was streaming in, cosy and warm, Sandy was happy and I was delighted. Adequately furnished and equipped a wonderful find. Just the spot to have some great bonding time with one's special partner. In our case 45 years married a new and exciting experience.

The Grotjie is nicely sheltered from the south-east wind and within walking distance of the sea. An extra bonus is that the Muisboskerm outdoor restaurant is within 3 km away. The Sishen/Saldanha iron ore railway is in front of the cave and to see a train with 8 locomotives and more than 400 wagons each with 100 tons of ore is just too awesome. What a privilege to have the cave to yourself.
It is an incredible privilege to come and stay in the Grotjie. It is something that you cannot just describe to other people, they will have to go and see and admire for themselves.

This little cave offers the ideal weekend breakaway for romantic quality time with your other half. There is electricity, but no TV, and a beautiful view of the plains all the way to the ocean in the distance. You can even enjoy the view from the bath! The house is uniquely incorporated into the rock and quaintly decorated. Lovely patio with drum braai and night jars when the sun sets. All you need to do is put your feet up and relax! There are not yet good indications/signs from the main road, but not too hard to find. We will definitely return!
