The chalets are neat and very clean, but maintenance is required. Tiles were broken, the kitchen cupboards had no handles and the bin was in pieces. The TV remote didn't work - there weren't even any batteries in it. The back gate is still broken - saw a previous guest mentioned this too. We were received very kindly and were very grateful that they gave us a unit with a garden as our dog was with us.
Basic but comfortable overnight accommodation.
Certain of the pillows on the beds did not have pillowcases (this was not the case in a previous stay). There were cobwebs in the shower area. Certain walls in the bedrooms were not clean with killed insects and cobwebs.
The lounge armchairs were sticky. The kitchen was substandard; the kettle was covered in grease from the previous guests' cooking, so it was not cleaned between guests. Cupboard doors are hanging, and there was no washcloth or sponge. There were no hand towels or soap in the bathroom, and only one guest towel per room, which was torn. The shower head only lifts if the taps are wide open, so the pressure keeps it up. There was no shower trap, and the toilet paper was cheap and thin. The one bedroom had a urine odour. This place needs serious attention. I will definitely not be back.
No security. People came in and out as they pleased. People next to us were making a lot of noise and their pals came in from the street to visit. Cockroaches in the kitchen.

Maintenance work is urgently needed. TV's remote control does not work. Electric blanket does not work. WiFi was unavailable. Wash basin in the bathroom needs to be replaced. The kitchen is not clean. Towels and tea towels (only one small) were definitely not very clean.
The one light in the living room was out of order/blown. The other one was very faint. They advertise WiFi but it only works near reception and not in the chalet itself. Room light also faulty. Other room's power plug by bedside lamps does not work. No one on duty at night to report problems. Poor area with a lot of noise/walking in the street.
The place smells old and musty as if it has not been used for a very long time. The towels are dirty and torn. It is not very clean. The beds are very good and sleep well. Not feeling like using the bathroom and showering.
What a peaceful and relaxing spot. Staying in a chalet that has all the amenities you would need for a weekend away. The unlimited DStv packages was my favourite as I could watch sport while relaxing. The area is located a bit further away from the town, so it is quiet. Whittals is a big area, so everyone has a bit of space.
Was warmly greeted by Tanya, who has an outstanding personality and is very helpful. She ensured that I was comfortable in my room.

The chalet is clean and tidy with everything one needs to spend the night on a trip between Gauteng and the Eastern Cape.
Whittals is always a good choice for overnight stays. It is far from the main street, which is important for the noise of the big trucks which is disturbing. The units are very spacious and very well equipped.

We wanted bread, soft drink and flash rn fir hostess offered to buy us because we don't know Aliwal at all which was great for us!
Kitchen had no drying cloths and toilet paper was too little. Bathroom door closes very hard and makes noise with baby sleeping. Very neat further.
No soap, shampoo or dish soap. No reception. For R850 one expects more. Compared to Cheetah Manor, poor.
For overnight accommodation, Whittals was adequate. However, we would recommend that more be done to address the coldness of the building. The one heater that was available didn't do enough. The electric blanket on the master bedroom's double bed only warmed one half of the bed. And some of the wall plugs were out of order.

We only stayed one night at Whittals on our trip from Cape Town to the Drakensberg. The house was clean, tidy and comfortable with everything one might need for a good night's rest and rest before hitting the road again. Very friendly hostess. Will recommend and return home myself.

We were there before the specified check-in time. No one was there to help us check in. Got keys in mailbox. Been very tight. Space was very limited. Kitchen facilities did not work such as the 2-plate stove. Water pressure very weak. Had to jump around to get wet.
There was no toilet paper. Had to go and buy it myself. Cupboards were dirty: only cleaned in front. We had to turn on TV and DStv ourselves and were almost shocked with the loose connections. WiFi was only for one person per chalet. No wood at braai area. Had to go buy it too. Fortunately, there was a shop right next to the sleeping place to purchase als for yourself. Noise through the evening from people in the street.

We just spent the night so had a quick braai and bed. All super.

Nice stay with friendly owner. However, the neighborhood is poor and noisy and there is a fear of theft and trespassing. Noise on the street by other residents of the area until late at night.
We were disappointed to be told on arrival that there was no water in Aliwal North. I would have preferred to have received a call advising me of the situation and asking if we would rather stop over elsewhere. We were a group of 10 adults, the hostess bought 5 litres water person but it was not enough water to flush toilets and wash hands.It was most unpleasant. We understand municipal shortcomings, but as an establishment servicing the public one should be prepared and some alternatives should have been organised for toilets.

Whittals Chalets are in Aliwal North near the hot springs. The town has many places to sleep and eat. Up to five family members can sleep comfortably at Whittels Chalets.
Had some problems with electricity when we arrived, but the manager sorted it out the very same evening. He would have called the electrician in the next morning.
From the booking, to the arrival and stay, Whittals Chalets was a pleasant experience for us that exceeded our wildest expectations!

Chalet was small, but spacious enough for our family of 5. Unfortunately there is load shedding in town at the moment, but the owner went out of her way to accommodate us and make us comfortable. We will call there again anytime for a place to sleep.

It was bitterly cold (minus 4) but the electric blankets kept us warm in bed. Good service and the best part - we were allowed to bring our dog.

The chalet was clean and basic, but very cold. At least the heater heats up a bit. Unfortunately I have to complain about the security light on the reception wall shining directly into chalet 1's bedroom. Very uncomfortable. We hung a blanket in front of the window on the 2nd night. The neighborhood in which it is located also appears to be deteriorating. Loud music could be heard from time to time.

Whittals works as a simple, basic, clean overnight stopover. Parking would be a serious issue if there are several guests. The location is poor amongst semi urban tenants who partied next door throughout.

I called the day before to arrange for them to arrange dinner for me when I arrived. When I arrived at 18h40 the lady who unlocked it for me had no knowledge of it. Luckily I had something with me that I could eat. This was totally unacceptable to me. The shower head in chalet no. 5 is broken halfway and water sprays with a jet to one side. The shower curtain is too small and water was everywhere. At least the water was deliciously warm.
Everything you need is there and it's neat too.
We found the accommodation comfortable for the price we paid.

Chalet 1 shower set need to be changed. Rather have a shower door than the curtain, with the curtain a lot of water is spilled onto the bathroom floor.
Chalets have two bedrooms and sleeps 7 guests, so it offers good value. No meals are provided, we had to buy our own milk for coffee and tea. Manager was very helpful.
Whittals Chalets meets minimum basic needs, but cannot be compared to the standard of other accommodation we have booked, with roughly the same costs. The chalets are mostly clean. Crockery was not 100% clean and glasses were full of finger marks. The location is in a very poor area of Aliwal North and we were not comfortable going for a short walk after a day sitting in a vehicle.
Service was friendly and everything was nice and clean. However, we found a cottage right next to a busy road and the place is not pet friendly or safe at all. There was a party across the road from 5 o'clock in the afternoon with noise from vehicles as well as music that was played until 3:30 in the morning. We got up, dressed and left before 5 o'clock in the morning
What a pleasant start to a holiday. My toypom was as welcome as we were. Here they pride themselves on honesty and being true to themselves. It is away from the highway and nice and peaceful. Had a good night's sleep indeed!
