Wild Fox Hill Eco Cabin

The eco-cabin is a self-catering, 3-bedroom home that is equipped with basic amenities including a fridge, gas oven and stovetop, pots, pans and crockery. On the cooler days, guests can relax on comfortable couches by the fireplace and when the sun is shining enjoy the day bed on the spacious deck where you will experience breathtaking mountain views. There is also a large bonfire pit where guests can braai.
2 of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, while the third bedroom leads off the main bedroom and is perfect for children. There is a double sleeper couch in the lounge.
We are completely off the grid, with electricity provided by the sun and hot water by a solar geyser or donkey boiler.
Mountain views, forest walks, an old orchard and a scenic river and waterfall are some of the natural treasures at Wild Fox Hill, a 5.5-ha smallholding where the eco-cabin is located. Guests are welcome to explore the land and children are welcome. There is a trampoline for them to enjoy.
Wild Fox Hill is also a developing farm where we currently keep over 50 free-range chickens and grow a variety of vegetables, fruit and nut trees.
The endangered Cape Parrot is a regular presence in the area and we are close to a secret waterfall, a local dam, beautiful flower-filled grasslands, forests and extraordinary mountain views perfect for sundowners.

32 guests' feedbackComfortable place with well-equipped kitchen. Hostess was very friendly and gave good advice about walking routes and attractions in Hogsback.
The cabin was so neat and comfy with everything that you need. The beds and bedding were so comfortable, an added bonus. The location and views were amazing, especially being able to relax on the deck bed with a morning coffee and watching the sun come up. Wonderful big fire pit to sit around and enjoy the warmth of the fire and starwatch. We are already planning our next trip.
A lovely calming stay on a sunny hill in Hogsback. The cottage is well equipped with all the basic supplies, including firewood. The host was wonderful. She is very knowledgeable about things to do and see in the area and happy to give directions to the coolest local spots. The stoep is lovely for sunny cups of coffee with a beautiful view! Bonus points for chickens, dogs, and a very friendly cat coming to greet us .
Very peaceful and great little cabin. The host is a wonderful person, did everything possible to make our stay great.
The directions sent by the host to get there were spot on and easy to follow. She greeted us when we arrived and made sure we felt welcome. She has been very friendly and helpful. The cabin is clean, neat, and has everything we needed. On Saturday during our stay, it rained the whole day. The inside of the house was well stocked with firewood and the fireplace kept us warm and cosy. The beds had enough warm bedding and were very comfortable. We would definitely use this venue again. The farm-type setting does make one's soul relax.
Very nice. Beautiful nature.
On arrival the hostess forgot that we had booked and the place was occupied by her parents. We had to wait 90 minutes for them to vacate and clean the place. The water pressure was very low throughout, making a shower a challenge. Hot water was a problem the first night. The cabin generally needs attention, the garden is untidy and the braai area was dirty.
Nice place, will definitely come back.
Stay was very enjoyable and the fireplace indoors was a winner!
We were so tired and the bed and food were welcome. You need to be an eco nerd to like this place.
Lovely hidden "cozy" wooden house with all the necessary facilities for a lovely weekend stay. Very friendly welcome by Helen and even in rainy weather the water was very warm. Most beautiful view and will definitely stay there again.
The house is nice and spacious, comfortable and very nicely decorated! Our dog children were also welcome which made it very easy for us! We look forward to staying there again!
This was our last stop of our vacation and we couldn't have asked for a better ending. The place is rural but super clean and everyone was very helpful and friendly. Will definitely recommend it.
Had a welcome reception and really peaceful and relaxing for the soul. Plekkie is newly built with lots of potential. Would highly recommend it. Only thing missing was milk or milk powder.
Absolute inner peace.
The cozy eco cabin is perfectly located for a peaceful break in Hogsback and we really enjoyed the activities and walks in the area.
Perfectly located in Hogsback. Cabin was very comfortable and cosy - wish I could have stayed there longer! Great value for money as well, and the owner was super kind and helpful. Would recommend!
The "cabin" has the most beautiful view of the mountains, we spent hours on the porch. From eating breakfast to drinking coffee late at night. Helen is incredibly friendly and helpful. We called from the mountains so she could light the donkey for a nice hot bath, she did it for us. She also made recommendations about which waterfalls we should see in our short time there, and wow! We can't wait to book with her again.
The owner, Helen, built this eco log house herself. It is full of eccentric elements and therefore a delightful experience for people looking for something different, and to tread as lightly as possible on our fragile earth. Helen was always available to help deal with any challenge. She is indeed the hub around which everything at Wild Fox Hill revolves and her enthusiasm and passion are very contagious.
The cabin is on the rustic side but was clean and has everything you need. Stunning views. Great indoor fireplace. Be prepared to be eco-conscious in terms of water and electricity use but that is not a bad thing!
We are a family of 6 and found the Cabin to be perfect for a night in Hogsback. Location was beautiful with incredibale views. Cabin is simple and one doesn't need much more than it offers. We are quite Eco in our approach so didn't mind recyling, etc but did find the shower was bit of a trickle rather than a shower.
The location of the cottage is beautiful and you can take in everything from your porch. Helene the owner is also very pleasant and you can see she really loves her town and place. However, the cottage feels a bit tired and the dogs and cat are often on your porch.
Unfortunately there was no water to shower or wash in the morning.
Friendly host. Eco-friendly accommodation.
See stars.
Fantastic atmosphere and scenery. Wonderful hospitality. Off the grid so we were not affected by load shedding. Lovely stay with everything you need. Excellent, I can't wait to go there again.
Wild Fox Hill Eco Cabin is a beautiful place! Secluded, neat, cozy and full of character! The fireplace was great during our first cold night. The hostess, Helen, is very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful stay here and will definitely come again!
The place is any nature lover's heaven. If you love adventure I would recommend hiking trails or even if you just like reading a nice book in front of a nice fire, the place is for you. Very basic, yet fully equipped.
Fantastic off-grid accommodation. Amazing views and tranquility that no money can buy.
Very high up in the mountain, beautiful view. Place was quite equipped. Nothing fancy. Only for people who love unspoiled nature. Wooden house, secluded. We only slept there one night, won't really stay there for longer. Recommended for serious nature lovers.
Unfortunately we will not book here again. The cottage was not well equipped, no hot water, the shower was very weak and we had to light the donkey for hot water. Washbasins had no water. The bath was also out of order. The roof leaked inside and outside our room. No privacy at window, no curtains. The owner's workers were constantly passing by and even her guests. It was a bad experience for a holiday we'd been looking forward to.
It's very peaceful and relaxing. Owner so made sure everything was right and tidy and followed up that we were comfortable. Would choose Wild Fox Hill Eco Cabin again anytime.
