This guesthouse, with its own character, offers a truly unique experience in the Karoo. This house dates from the drought of 1926 to 1933 when Reverend Scholtz built it for the Bank Manager with the help of his parishioners, their earnings saved the community from famine.
The guest house comprises 3 en-suite patio rooms. The bedrooms are furnished with either a king-size bed or twin beds. Inside the house, there are 2 bedrooms and 2 separate bathrooms. One bedroom has twin beds while the other has a double bed.
All rooms are equipped with tea- and coffee-making facilities. Please note that breakfast is not served at the guest house, however, guests are welcome to enjoy meals at Karoo International Manna Restaurant, which is within walking distance from the guest house.
On-site parking is provided for all guests.
The guest house is situated in the centre of the town with a radius of 300 m from a bank and shops.

142 guests' feedbackOur stay was pleasant and relaxing.
It was a very nice stay. We enjoyed it a lot. There is a braai.
Easy to find, was a very nice host, nothing was too much trouble, lovely old house with memorabilia. Nice braai area. Seems to have a very fixable plumbing issue.
Received with hospitality in a gem of a place.
Very nice, thank you, we slept nice and warm.
Very very nice and friendly place.
The small tub was beautiful and so unique!
I would recommend the outside rooms as they do have an air conditioner. My friend stayed in the house itself and with load shedding and no air conditioner, only a fan, the room was baking hot. Tannie is a wealth of knowledge about the area and very friendly and helpful. We had a great stay.
Tannie went out of her way to accommodate us at short notice. Place was neat, within walking distance of eateries and shops.
Very nice stay, all the facilities are there for the night.
Was very nice, the host is a star. She lent us a book about Williston's history. There are even some of my ancestors in the book: the Nel family.
Lovely lady and a safe place.
Friendly reception. Calm and quiet. Slept well, bed comfortable. Will stay there again.
Excellent value in a charming house with creaky old floorboards! The host was very helpful and friendly. It is within walking distance of the main road where there's a restaurant and supermarket. Security was good inside the house, although the parking wasn't that secure - the only deterrent was a 16-year-old Fox Terrier, Tokolos.
Very neat place with old world atmosphere. We will definitely stay there again.
Yes, a lot. There is only good to make coffee and tea. Braai facilities were not up to standard. No place or kitchen tools to make anything more. You must provide your own.
Very pleasant and the aunt is very friendly and helpful, tells you everywhere you need to go and see good things about the town.
For an ear's sleep on the long road, Williston @ 21 is just the place. Located near a restaurant and shop. Friendly auntie Elsa who receives and greets you on the stoep and welcomes you and chats with you whether you are family. Quiet and peaceful place to rest after a long day's driving.
Was fine but why must I go to twenty characters?
For an overnight stopover between Gauteng and the West Coast it is perfectly located. We rested well and were not far from our final destination the next morning. Thank you very much.
Comfortable overnight stay after long hours on the road. However, room needs upgrading and cleanliness needs attention.
Well located. Hot water and enough bedding to ensure we were warm. Uncomfortable mattress. Excellent restaurant in walking distance.
Comfortable room - Karoo at its best.
Slept very well, everything was just right for an overnight stay.
Nice stay. Ideal for an overnight stop.
Was calm and comfortable.
It was okay. Just very small, but luckily we only slept 1 night.
Yes, all needed amenities available.
No, not at all. We were not warned that there might be a power cut and had to sit in the dark. In the bathroom (down the hall) was a candle and a lighter, but no matches. The next morning again no power and my wife couldn't even put on make-up. Etc.
We had a great stay, everything was very neat and clean. Very kindly received by aunt.

Very nice stay. Very friendly and helpful people.
Ella had been very helpful and friendly. The room was very neat and the bed slept very well.
The rooms are very neat and were affordable and suitable for our overnight stay on the way to the West Coast. We initially booked room no 3, but Elsa was kind enough to move us into room no 2 which has a bit more space and a bigger bathroom.
Next time I would rather sleep in the outside building.
Excellent option for overnight stay. Staff went out of their way to accommodate me. I had problems with my vehicle on Britstown and they had no problem making alternative arrangements with me for the room key as I was running late.
Colleagues basically just slept, because they worked and left early the next morning. There were no shortcomings in cleanliness, hospitality and comfort.
A lovely compact room, spotlessly clean, the most comfortable bed and lovely bed linen, with all the amenities you'd need. A most attentive hostess and a stone's throw from the main road and restaurant. Fantastic value for money.
I am unsure why one would go to Williston - but should you find yourself there Williston 21 is a good place to stay.
Nice quiet place in village. Feel like farm.
Quiet and pleasant place with good character.
It's the 2nd time we've stayed at Williston @ 21. Very comfortable rooms. Hostess is very friendly and helpful. Lovely peaceful surroundings.
Maybe just a suggestion for a chair (even a folding one) because then one has to sit on the beds.
Recommended for sleepovers!
Very nice stay, friendly welcome, lots of extra blankets for the cold and lights for load shedding. Everything you need and more.
Decent, but there was no hot water in the shower on a very cold night.
The air conditioning in the room was a welcome addition.
Was only for a stopover but would appreciate if at least there could be cutlery in the rooms and no need to ask the owner for it. There were indeed 2 cups and 2 glasses.
The mosquitoes bothered us so much. Neither of us could sleep. The owner certainly could have let us know about it so that we could take spray stuff. Very unpleasant. They bred in the showers. The mattresses can also please be replaced.
Lovely oasis after a day's travel.
Veblyf was neat and clean.
Thank you so much for your kind hospitality. It was incredibly fun. Quiet, clean and lacking in nothing. You are beautiful people.
Very pleasant experience. Will definitely stay here again.
There was another option, a small apartment in the backyard which was small but just right for the purpose of our visit (a wedding). We were able to barbecue the first night, it was right next to the church, close to the restaurant and venue. Aunt Elsa was friendly and very helpful and we were able to get the apartment for the same price. The place was neat and had everything we needed. Thank you Aunt Elsa!

Nice stay and safe place.
House brings you back to a time about 40-50 years ago and lets you experience how the people lived at that time.

Lovely, spacious room and everyone was helpful from your arrival to your departure.
We stopped for the night. The facilities were clean and tidy. Area was safe and quiet and we slept great.
Rooms in the house do not have aircon, but comfortable for a one-night stay.
Hostess was very nice to talk to and very knowledgeable about the town and surroundings. Was very interesting.
The rooms are neat and clean. It's good for just an overnight destination.
Everything was in order and ready as pre-arranged. Many thanks to Elsa from Williston@21.
Very nice stay. Owner very helpful.
Ideal for spending time in Williston with attractions as neatly reproduced on the flyer available in the room. Our hostess, Elsa, has a wide interest in the town's history and is also an expert on plant species etc.
I have no complaints about the accommodation, it was exactly what was needed for our overnight needs.
Will stay there again. Elsa good hostess. Got more or less what we expected.
For overnight stays, the accommodation is acceptable.
Love the garden. Couldn't deal with TV and AC, just chilling.
See stars.
Expected a room with own bathroom. No privacy, because owner lives in the house. No kitchen facilities to prepare own food. Shared bathroom with owner.
Room is very nicely furnished, the aircon is a big bonus and everything is just right!
Very neat, beautiful old houses with beautiful architecture, rich in history.
It was pleasant to check in with Elsa after a long dusty road, helpful, hospitable and delightfully chilled on her porch.
Tannie Elsa is amazing a hostess with the mostess. Definitely worth the stay.
Williston @21 was a convenient stopover, and easy walking distance to a lovely restaurant for dinner.
Everything was fine and we would like to spend the night there again.
A beautiful old house with character, good beds and a friendly welcome await you here. Then you are further spoiled with lots of information about the surroundings and attractions. Would love to stay here again.
Very central with everything needed.
Spacious room & bathroom. Perfect for a quick stop!
Thank you to Elsa for the night, peaceful and had a good night's sleep, the rusks were delicious.
Lovely place, wish we could stay longer.
Great service and friendliness. Clean. Neat and very comfortable.
We had a very pleasant stay and our hostess went to great lengths to provide us with historical information about Williston and the region. We really appreciated it.
The perfect overnight destination. Friendly service, clean and tidy accommodation in a beautiful village.
Clean, tidy town. Accommodation just as advertised on the internet. Quiet safe place.
We only slept there one night on our way to the West Coast.
We booked the guest room in the house. It was well and cuddly furnished. The house with its plank floors and the beautiful Karoo garden full of succulents is impressive. Very good value for money and on top of that the owner is a great source of local information. If your timing is right, you can also buy freshly baked biscuits from her.
Although we had a very nice stay, and there is no room for it, a table with chairs to eat at would have been convenient.
The rooms were in the aunt's house, you half feel as if you are intruding on her privacy. Her great-grandchild was baptized during our stay so the Sunday morning we checked out there was a large group of her family. In such cases, I feel she should rather not rent out the rooms in the house so that her house is available for her private use. If I had been aware of this, I would have made other accommodation arrangements for my family. I.V.M. safety there is a low fence and gate so easy access to yard where vehicles are parked. Luckily we had no damage.
We were hospitably received. Helped immediately and all our needs were taken care of. Neat room with everything needed for a comfortable overnight stay. Toast for morning coffee. Thank you very much. Nice experience.
Value for money and was a really pleasant stay.
Very comfortable accommodation and a good overnight stop for the long drive to the West Coast.
The accommodation is simple but super clean. It just a place to sleep. However, everything is beautiful and very well taken care of.
The hostess was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Directed us to a nice eatery walking distance from the guesthouse. Everything is there that a traveller needs. Lovely to have no TV to interrupt the peace. Thank you very much. Will stay there again.
Only powdered milk available. Hostess forgot to turn on fridge before we arrived.
Average accommodation, no bike parking security.
Was on my way to Potch and couldn't get away from the West Coast until late afternoon. Just looking for a place to spend the night before lockdown. Slept well and left again at 04:30 the next morning. Couldn't really experience much of the hospitality, but despite one big cockroach and a few mosquitoes (which can appear unexpectedly everywhere), I will stop there again for a pit stop.
This guest house is just a place to sleep, with only the basic facilities, and relatively cheap. Hostess is friendly and makes you feel at home!
We were received and treated with kind friendly service and they were very accommodating.
We will definitely visit again. She went out of her way to welcome us and make us feel comfortable, and was right on the trail of the last few West Coast flowers! Williston is fairytale beautiful and the perfect start to a nice getaway!
The owner went out of her way to inform me of the history of the town and district... very interesting and appreciated.
My 2 yorkies also felt very welcome. Thank you auntie Elsa, also for my treat.
Aunt Elsa is very friendly and the stay was very neat and pleasant, exactly as we expected in the Karoo!
We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight visit. The antique furniture left us with very nice memories and nostalgia. The town's cleanliness and friendly people exceeded our wildest expectations.
We were overnighting in Williston en Route to the wild flowers. We chose Williston as a decent drive from our home base in Port Elizabeth. The owner, Elsa, re ommended the local restaurant, Manna, for an evening meal and we appreciated this suggestion as we had a good meal and could walk there and back! Lovely rucks, lots of hot water (which we used sparingly) and very comfortable bed and linen. Highly recommended.
A very special experience to be able to share her home with the hostess and watch her knead and bake bread, as well as being able to taste her traditional diagonal cake hot from the kitchen. True old world charm without tie flantines.
Mosquitoes bit my daughter again and Elsa gave her some of her homemade cream for free for the bites. Appreciated it very much.
Aunt Elsa makes you feel like family! A touchy-feely aunt who could talk about soap making and history!
Williston is a very old town, hot and dry. It is an experience to spend the night there, it is quiet, peaceful and clean.
ALL THE BASIC THINGS ARE THERE AND SERVICE IS FRIENDLY.
All the quiet squeaks and groans of a very old building. Very comfortable bed and great conversations with the owner. We would definitely stay there again.
See stars.
The fan did not work properly we strongly recommend that air conditioning be installed.
Nice place to spend the night. Near restaurant.
Lovely stay. Very pleasant lady with whom we stayed. She made sure we were warm with enough blankets and hot water bags. There is a bath available which is very pleasant after a long journey.
Good stopover on the way to the West Coast
I was there too short to develop an accurate opinion, but there was nothing negative about the stay.
Elsa is a friendly person who also knows a lot about the town and the surroundings.
The owner was friendly. Room was nice and clean. We had dinner at a restaurant just down the road from guest house, they make wonderful food.
I wouldn’t recommend this place as you are staying in the house with the owner, plus you share a bathroom with her full of her toiletries. The place is not clean and I don’t think the owner is too happy to have people of colour as she seemed out of sorts when she saw us.
Would like more privacy, and place needs serious upgrading.
Was net vir een aand gewees so was orraait, maar sal sê as mens langer bly sal 'n ekstra waaier waardeer word.
A beautiful room, fantastic bed and lovely shower. Friendly reception that spares no effort. We will definitely go back!
It is a very beautiful environment. Until visiting the church opposite the house and it was an experience to be able to view all the different types of succulents at the guest house and church. Friendly and hospitable hostess. House has beautiful antiques to behold. Felt very at home and slept well. Streets even had street lights that we don't have with us at all. No working lights. Clean and tidy village.
Very clean.
Aunt Elsa is a real grandma. Kept an eye on the kids while we were on course. Comfortable rooms and always hot water especially when it was so cold.
Was received very kindly. Just felt at home. Had a nice stay.
It was a wonderful homecoming in Williston and Aunt Elsa was very kind and helpful in discovering my family roots in the area. Her knowledge of the area made it an interesting trip. The room was beautiful and tidy and perfectly located near Manna Restaurant, the Klipkerk, Williston Mall and other attractions and shops. A quiet environment where you can rest and come home.
The smell of freshly baked bread and the old-world atmosphere made me think back to my grandmother's visits. We had a nice stay.
Very nice and clean with country feel.
The hostess simply beckoned us closer from her porch by mobile phone after we were unsure about the street name. Furthermore, we were without bread on May 1, when all shops were closed, especially in the countryside. The hostess was then able to feast us on a home-baked bread from her own hospitable kitchen, which surprised and saved us terribly. Feel free to experience the warmth of the Karoo at its best at this guest house. Thanks again, Elsa.
The residence was very central, and good references were given regarding restaurants and other information in and around town.
It was what I expected and a comfortable rest after a long journey.
We spent an evening at Williston guesthouse. The room had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. I was concerned about security for our vehicle which had a lot of camping stuff in it for the night, but everything was fine in the morning.
Very friendly and the hostess is very helpful. For overnight it is very convenient and neat.
This is not a B&B at all but accommodation only. It is not value for money at all. Self-catering, only cups, no other cutlery, such as knives, forks and plates, had to ask for a fridge and microwave which were provided, but which were not used because the inside of the microwave was dirty. Safety was compromised because there was drinking and partying on the premises by persons in the vicinity of our sleeping place and parked vehicle. Sometimes no privacy.
Would not recommend the guest house.
