Winterton Country Lodge is a well located guesthouse for visits to the Drakensberg and Natal Midlands. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the facilities are clean and tidy. We can highly recommend the place.
Beautiful room. It shows B&B, but apparently Saringa room was self catering and breakfast was excluded. The receptionist did let us enjoy breakfast. Might just have a better TV package installed. TV signal was also weak. One night over, it was nice, thanks.
The room was beautiful and very comfortable. The only problem was that we had to do without any working power plugs, so we couldn't charge anything. It is bad if one would rather go home, because there is power.
Neill and Mark are wonderful hosts, we felt so comfortable from the onset. Our rooms were pristine, comfortable and cool under the pecan trees. The country style dinners were delicious and great value for money. Breakfast spread was fabulous.

The upside: Very friendly and helpful hosts. Great breakfast. Beautiful garden. The downside: The roof of the room is very low making one feel trapped. The room is extremely dark. You have to keep all the lights on as there is very little natural light coming into the room, because the windows are too small. The worst is the damp, the wet walls and mouldy ceilings and the smell in the room. We did mention it to the co owner. The answer was it was due to all the rain they had. What makes matters worse is that there is a lot of different levels in the unit. the steps are different heights and also differs in size, making it a risk to fall. The small rusted lopsided braai standing at the front door introduced me to what to expect inside.
We were treated as friends more than guests from Mark and Neil great hospitality and the dinners prepared by both were amazing so well represented. Real homely atmosphere from the time we arrived till the time we left. What a lovely weekend we had there, will definitely be back as soon as we can. Thanks to Mark and Neil for making us feel so welcome.

The accommodation is very neat and the service is good, but I recommend people to go to other places in the area for meals, it is very expensive and not value for money.
Accommodation was great. The Bungalow was well-equipped and cosy. There was a problem with hot water, but we survived it for 2 nights. We reported it.

The atmosphere is amazing. We were well rested in high standard accommodation. However, look at the tiles in the bathroom.
We booked accommodation for 4 adults but the room was meant for 2 adults and 2 children. Adults over the age of 30 do not want to sleep of bunk beds (one on top of the other). Both adults woke up with sore backs. Very disappointing, especially for the price.

After 5 days of wonderful relaxation at Fernwood Lodge, we decided to stay two more days and spend the night at Winterton Country Lodge for two more nights. As soon as we stepped in, we were disappointed. Nice pool again, but "handy men" hanging around the pool on a Friday afternoon? In the evening there was a function and last guests left around 11 o'clock, it wasn't too disturbing, but then the noise started. Guests visiting and making noise, the reception's music blaring, TVs blaring... by 00.30 it stopped. I walked through reception a few times...everything open, computers on, music blaring. And to top it all off, the staff started yelling at each other in the main building. I don't know what time it was, but after almost no sleep, we were woken up by the staff going haywire. My complaints fell on deaf ears. I think this is the worst guest house I have ever stayed in.

I was in Winterton for work and only stayed 1 night. What I experienced was pleasant. My only negative was that there wasn't a nearby place to eat for dinner. The area is unfamiliar to me and looking for a place to eat in the evening in the unknown, even with a road map is a bit difficult. However, I am aware that my stay was B&B only. The negative comments are therefore not aimed at my place of stay, but more in general.
My husband and father-in-law took part in a mountain bike race just a short distance from Winterton Country Lodge. Jualita was extremely friendly and helpful. She made sure that everyone enjoyed a delicious breakfast very early in the morning. She also prepared the most delicious dinners for us upon request. We had a really nice stay, will definitely book with them again.
I would like to stay longer in the peaceful place with excellent accommodation. A fantastic place with only one word that can describe accommodation as "awesome". The staff were very friendly with fantastic service. I would recommend the accommodation to anyone with a clear heart.
