Situated high on the banks of the Bushman's River, Woodlands is a birder's paradise with a wide variety of species spotted daily including the lovely Loerie. Located just outside Kenton-on-Sea, midway between Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) and East London and just down the road from Makhanda (Grahamstown) on the beautiful Sunshine Coast.
Woodlands Cottages & Camping offers rustic, affordable, family and pet-friendly self-catering accommodation in 8 free-standing cottages and 3 guest house rooms in the main house. A variety of layouts allow us to cater for individuals sharing rooms, couples, small families, and multiple cottages for those who need space for a large group. We can accommodate up 46 people. The cottages are tucked away in a lush indigenous garden with access to their own unique and secluded boma bath, making us ideal for the perfect romantic getaway.
The bush camping area has a toilet, shower and washing up facilities for up to 5 pitches.
Guests can enjoy a delicious meal or a drink at the Goat Shed bush bistro & bar which is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. Additional facilities on-site include a swimming pool, games room (with pool table and table tennis) and a large lounge area with TV. Enjoy the stress-free environment by relaxing next to the pool, wandering down the path to the river, or at the on-site bar. Spectacular unspoilt beaches, estuaries and rivers are right on the doorstep ready to explore.
We want people to enjoy the outdoors, the beach and our beautiful rivers. From Woodlands and nearby you have the option to experience kayaks, paddles boats, river cruises, bush walks and horse riding. We also get good rates from the nearby game reserve called Sibuya for day trips to see the Big 5 and we are 70 km from Addo Elephant Park.

Nice place, very clean and tidy with everything you need. The manager and staff are friendly and eager to help.
Neat and safe. We were very happy.
Nestled under the trees, this campsite has everything that we needed. The onsite restaurant is convenient for our late arrival, and our tent was safe for the weekend when we went out to explore the area. A variety of birds visited the campsite.

This must be advertised as a backpackers with the minimum. The family bathroom should have the windows completely covered, as privacy is a requirement.
Terrible! The staff didn't know where the cottage was. The place was dusty and unkempt. The linen was not changed from the previous occupants. It was smelly, it felt dirty and clammy. Load shedding was a disaster, no fans, no backup lights. When complaining, I was given two tiny aluminium type candles, unable to shower or freshen up. No cutlery or crockery in the cabin. Strange items floating in the kettle. The bar area was also very dusty and untidy.
We stayed over on our way back to Cape Town. Woodlands was easy to find, very friendly service and clean and spacious facilities. The gas hob and loadshedding lights ensured that despite loadshedding we could cook dinner and have a good stay.
Restaurant and bar on site, walking trails, rivers nearby, green natural, tree-rich, hot water.
I would recommend Woodlands to anyone with animals and children. It is very safe. As Matthew's wall in the restaurant says 'come as a guest leave as a friend' and it is so, you feel very much at home and the people are very friendly. We had a great time there.

Good location. Stayed for 2 nights, near the centre. The fridge was a bit of a problem.
It was the grossest, dirtiest smelly accommodation ever. For the money it was a huge disappointment. There was a dead rat that had been used, dishcloths were dirty and smelled. No curtains and no mirror. No hot water and toilet led. It was a nightmare.
Dirty shower in room, porch pavement full of weeds. Restaurant on site guests very noisy until late. No emergency light for load shedding in room. Freezer and fridge in communal kitchen last cleaned in years.
Mathew is very nice and checked in regularly to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. I would definitely go camping there again.
A very comfortable and well-equipped secluded cabin above the Bushmans River. The birdlife was outstanding. A wonderful place I have visited often and will visit again.

The scenery was perfect, the rooms and kitchen, bathrooms, lounge was all very neat and clean. We would definitely come for another stay at Woodlands Cottages. We wanted to rebook for December, but unfortunately the cottages were all booked up already. Thank you very much for the entertainment, pool table, table tennis, pool, as well as the pub where there was a live band and we were well entertained. I would highly recommend you to any other person looking for accommodation.
Cottage was nice and spacious, pretty garden. But no hot water, not even warm water, and no extra blankets - it was cold. Food at the Goatshed restaurant was yummy.
All the rooms were disgustingly dirty and not clean at all. The garden all overgrown and the pool area disgusting. The Goat Shed Restaurant is a rip off.
We are coming back. It's very nice place to get a little more time to spend.

Welcomed by the manager who took care to explain points of interest. His appreciation for the establishment was infectious. There is also consideration for the guests built into the layout of cottages and environment. A delight.

The lodge is beautiful and offers many activities - it was just very unfortunate that our visit was out of peak season so activities couldn't be arranged, despite them actively being advertised by the lodge on social media.

The accommodation is good, except that there is a water problem when you shower. The game room no longer exists, so there isn't much to do.
The place was fairy tales among the forests with nice life positive activities. It was very nice.
Perfect, owner well respected by community as we visit shops in surrounding area, noting we were only visiting for the weekend. Have already recommended cottage to friends and working colleagues.
The setting is lovely, high up on the hill above the Bushman's river. The overall feel is maybe a little run down, beautiful place with a large amount of potential. As we were the only guests at the backpackers, we did not try the restaurant, but had some drinks at the bar - great gin selection. Overall, was a pleasant stop - room was clean, no real atmosphere (but this is not really the backpacker's fault) and nothing super fancy.
We had a great time at woodlands. Only on the cleanliness that when there is cleaning, like empty shampoo bottles, and other things left by the previous customers are cleaned up. Other than that, everything was neat.
Everything was dusty and the outdoor bath, table and chairs weren't even clean.
We stayed in a very unpleasant little cottage, which was not very clean. The bathroom was a total disaster, with no hot water. The whole appearance of the cottage was tatty. It was obvious that very little maintenance has been carried out over the years.
The owner was absent. The place didn't look like the advertisement on the website. The hot water shower is constantly stopping while showering. Uncomfortable toilet with bookcase on your chest. The two-plate stove was out of order.
The place was clean. Our request for single bed linen was handled efficiently. Dogs and cats jump unto the couch, cupboards and beds. Won't book again.
We enjoyed the stay, though short it was sweet.
We were really received with friendly helpful people. We would love to return. The food was top notch. Value for money.
We enjoyed our stay at Woodlands immensely. We made a cosy fire and barbecued. reception was very friendly and made us feel at home.
