Yellowwood Creek is situated at the foot of the Amatola mountain range. The gardens slope down to the Cumakala River and the dense Yellowwood forest. The forest and surrounding area are inhabited by a variety of bird species including Knysna louries and the rare Cape parrot, many of which are common seasonal visitors to the garden.

Accommodation at Yellowwood Creek is provided in 2 double-roomed suites with bathrooms and French doors leading onto the verandas, one of which has an adjoining room suitable for families with children. In addition, there is a guest cottage-built in the 19th Century with its own bathroom, mezzanine sleeping area and balcony with panoramic views of the forest. Breakfast and dinner are available on request at an additional cost.

Yellowwood Creek is only a mere 4 km from Stutterheim and 95 km away from East London, and its stunning beaches. The picturesque Anderson dam, fed by a natural waterfall is a half hour's walk via a path in the forest and within 2 km are other scenic trails of varying length leading to stunning waterfalls. A short drive away through breathtaking scenery, renown Gubu dam provides trout fishing and for golfers, the Stutterheim country club has a magnificent course just 6.5 km away from Yellowwood Creek. South of Stutterheim on the N6-highway is Wrigglewade dam offering sailing and bass fishing.
