Value for money. Accommodation was very neat and the house has everything one needs. The bathroom is very close to the cottage. Will definitely visit again.
The accommodation is neat and well furnished. The campsite is covered with green grass, even though it is winter. They even provided towels, something I haven't found at other campgrounds.

We stayed in the room available in the campsite and it exceeded all my expectations - very neat and clean, more space than I thought there would be, plus a small fridge, kettle, coffee and tea and sugar too . We had a really nice and comfortable stay, with little trouble for us. Even the bathrooms were clean and tidy beyond expectations, with towels and soap provided.
The campsite is very neat and clean and the service was very good. Unfortunately, the local people were very noisy during the night, especially with their vehicles constantly passing by with loud music. The dogs are also a big problem for sure.

Short 1-night stopover. Bathrooms clean and hot water! It was just after New Year, so the grounds looked a bit unkempt.
The caravan park which is just outside the town, although a bit remote, is very cute with good ablution blocks. We spent the night in the Oupa Rendo/ Ramstal unit in the park and although it was very neat and clean, it was not clear from the description that the nearest toilet/shower/water point is about 200 meters away outside the room. Only security was a small slide lock on the door that can be easily pushed open, yet guests are clearly warned to keep their belongings locked up. The bedding is neat and the heater was very welcome in the freezing weather, but the mattresses are very old and have been slept on. Towels provided in the unit smelled of smoke, luckily there were clean towels provided in the ablution blocks. Nice warm water in the ablution block's shower was a pleasant surprise. Big bonus was the nearby brewery, with excellent beer and cheese board, which was recommended by the owner.
The supplied towels are a winner. We loved our stay and will be back!

Japie and Elize welcomed our group of 8 people in a professional manner and ushered us around to show us all the facilities. To find towels, toilet spray, hand soap and showers that work well was beyond our expectations. Morning temperatures at 4 degrees and frost on the grass was beyond anybody's control. Congratulations Zonnenstrahl and we hope this week's wine tasting festival is a huge success.

What a gorgeous campsite. Clean, lush green grass and so pretty. The ablutions are clean and more than you need, there were even towels and liquid soap. There’s a washing line. Lovely trees at each spot. Power, water and a spot light at each spot which is very helpful. We will definitely come again. Thank you.
Toured all the tourist spots - oldest restaurant in town was disappointing with service exceedingly slow and staff very unorganised.
There was no one to receive us, and we left the next day without seeing any of the facility. Bathrooms very neat and clean.

A piece of heaven. On top of the village and its unique nostalgia that gives you a glimpse of life 100 years ago, the scenery is breathtaking. The campsite is beautiful and comfortable. Japie and Elize's care of the grounds and facilities, as well as their selfless friendship is unprecedented. What a special experience!
Zonnestraal campsite is a lovely small campsite on a quiet road of quiet Nieu Bethesda. With shady willow trees and views over fields of sheep to Karoo mountains beyond, it's the perfect restful peaceful place.

Stayed in chalet/room. Departure was delightfully cool on a warm December afternoon. Nice green lawn and trees, clean kitchen and ablution facilities. Helpful and friendly service. Thanks, will stay there again.

We enjoyed the experience of snow and were given an unexpected surprise when the owners contacted us because of the extreme cold and moved us plus the other group of campers into their guest house across the road - Very considerate and unexpected.
It's a particularly beautiful environment with all the necessary facilities to be able to relax. The park has shade and lawns with clean ablutions and friendly people.
Better directions to New Bethesda will be good. Tell people they can skip the first exit from Middelburg and rather take the second exit closer to Graaff-Reinet. Especially with a caravan.

We had a wonderful time in Nieu-Bethesda and will definitely return. Loved the town and the friendly people.
After staying for two nights we would like to suggest a few improvements and issues with regards to maintanance. This is not meant to be negative as we really had a great, almost serene experience camping at Zonnenstrahl. The single toilet available needs a functional, working lock on the door. There needs to some kind of illumination at the ablution blocks during dark hours (outdoor light). There is a water leakage on the western side of the camping grounds resulting in a muddy spot, making camping impossible. Luckily it only affects one of the designated camping sites. Individual braai facilities for sites would be a great improvement. Thanks for a lovely stay.
The grass were cut very short witch make pitching a tent very easy. Ablution block spotless. Thank you very much Margie!
All the braais were dirty. Only one shower worked. We tried the other shower but when we opened the tap, the water squirted from the wall.
The campsite is very neat and clean with wonderfully cool trees. The fence is of such a nature that any person can enter the campsite which made us feel uneasy when we left the site. But there were no problems and we will definitely go back again!
The facilities may be a bit limited, but the site is neat and well located.
The camp has been nicely renovated since we were there a year ago. All that bothered us was that in the two days we were there, trash cans were not emptied, with the result that a bunch of stray dogs came to knock over the trash can. There is no security at the campsite, don't know if it's really necessary, but tents aren't exactly hard to get into.
Only thing was that other holidaymakers with motorbikes were making noise up and down the street, but I guess that wasn't the norm! Otherwise, very nice.
Clean, well kept little park - though the scullery could be upgraded, especially the leaking pipes. Peaceful and quiet with lots of bird life especially the hoopoe's and the occasional woodpecker. Definitely needs more tree's planted, especially for the summer months. A couple of bird baths around the park would be nice as well, not only for the birds but for the bird lovers.
