Comfort and cosy! As it was winter, it was great to use the nice fireplace (wood extra cost but really reasonable price!) Execellent support and welcome by Elise. Easy walk into 'town' over suspension bridge.

Beautiful antique style furniture, spacious rooms, lush and peaceful garden. Linen and towels deliciously fresh. Ideal for overnight on the long way to the coast.

We were home in Opa Alpha part. Everything is there for self-catering, but there is no sink to wash dishes. No trash in kitchen. No service in 5 days. Stepping on toilet a dangerous obstacle. The place needs a proper spring clean.

We received a friendly welcome from the hosts, Elize and Japie. The house is spacious and full of character with everything one would need for a self-catering holiday. Since we slept over on a cold night, I was worried that we would be cold, but I had nothing to worry about since there were 2 fireplaces and every room had an oil heater, electric blankets and warm linen.
The caravan park is quite special, VERY neat but not sure if it is that safe. Lots of people just hanging around in the street. Your best option in town.
Bedding was not new and clean, we had to pull long red hair out of bed. Because the room is for only 2 people, one can naturally sleep with the door open leading to the lounge. For that reason, we could never find the geyser's switch hidden behind the open door. We then used the caravan park's bathrooms to first find the switch. The place is inundated with mosquitoes. A Citronella candle or something would be appreciated that would help to fall asleep. There is a fireplace, but 4 pieces of wood will be appreciated for just a little atmosphere. It doesn't have to be a bag full. The coffee point was pathetic. Cheap Ricoffy and just one sachet of rooibos. The bigger house is poorly divided into two so one can hear the bigger side for 6 people or hear their noise. To crown it, one gets an email from the owner to contact the receptionist (Elize) an hour before arrival. So you get poor instructions over a phone at the speed of light, just to discover that no one will be waiting for you, but rather it is you who have to go on a treasure hunt for the key somewhere hidden. In short, not again I will use the guest house, although for the caravan park I will.
Spent two bitterly cold nights in the Grandpa Alph unit. When we got into bed the first night, we realized the electric blanket had been switched on before our arrival. We felt very welcome, and very grateful! Apart from the cold, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend Zonnenstrahl Gastehuis. We felt very safe and the silence was wonderful.
No contact was made re the key - if the couple in the adjacent room had not arrived at the same time as we did, we would not have been able to get in. No fire tongs etc for fireplace. No provision was made like lagging pipes or warning guests of the possibility of pipes icing up. We were left with no water to make coffee/bath or even flush the toilet!
There was no one to welcome the guests and I was asked to give them the other guests' keys. The place needs TLC.
Had to wait almost an hour to get access to the unit. The owner does not answer any mobile phones and there are also no facilities to accommodate the driver on the premises to receive or help guests.
Kitchen consists of kettle and microwave. No zink facilities. They do it every morning.

It is a very beautiful and stately old house with a beautiful and well-kept garden, considering that it is a very old house. Everything is well-looked after and it is in a quiet area, a little bit to one side from the rest of the town, but still but within walking distance. It has a very beautiful view of the surroundings. The house is very spacious and is reasonably well equipped for self-catering.
The house was very comfortable and we had a lovely relaxing weekend. The house is on the outside of the town itself, so is a little far to walk to the town itself, but also not really a problem. If I have to be very critical, then the fridge wasn't very clean, we couldn't use the kettles, needed a good "descaling", so spent the whole weekend cooking water with a pot on the stove. The couch in the living room closest to the fireplace is at its last, very broken and limp. An extra black bag for garbage would have been nice. The house is very old and it is understandable that windows and doors do not close properly. No burglar bars on windows and doors except one door. Shower leaks a lot and makes the floor very wet. The garden is lovely and it was lovely to sit outside under the willow tree. Beautiful with the hill behind the house.
