Nice room situated in a wonderful, quiet garden.
Peaceful and tranquillity was the order of the holiday.
Zwartmodder was very nice and beautiful. Zwartmodder's location is ideal. Close to the shops but out of the noise. They go out of their way with the smaller 'detail'. It was stylish with a 5 star feel.
For the one night it was very nice, just a pity the place is not suitable for more days, just right for an overnight stay, when it comes to food you have to go out to eat, because there are no kitchen facilities.

Wow, what a beautiful, peaceful paradise of a place. Everything needed was there. From the softest bedding to the hairdryer to breakfast biscuits! We slept so incredibly well and felt as if we were transported to another world. Our friendly hostess welcomed us and made us feel at ease.

Wow wow wow This accommodation was 5 star. We spent the night as part of our trip down to the sea, to explore the area. The garden is beautiful and neat. The accommodation was comfortable, clean and nice and cozy in the cold wet weather. We were there with our 2 sons (5 and 15 years old). We will definitely go there again and recommend it to anyone.

Zwartmodder was a pleasant cremation for us, the host came to pick us up from the car with an umbrella in the rain, the unit was beautiful, clean, tidy, comfortable with everything you need, the bed slept great and pillows were good. Beautiful garden and location perfect!

The place was perfectly located for us! Close to all the hiking trails and a stone's throw from the town with all its nice eateries and shops. The place is quiet and the tranquility overwhelms you. Almal kan maar by Zwartmodder gastehuis gaan tuis gaan. Eenheid is uitstekend, netjies en geriewe was volledig. Ons het tuis gevoel en was gemaklik, met die eienaar. Die kommunikasie was op n baie goed. Veilige parkering en soveel meer. Ligging was goed en stil!

Very nice room and location, unfortunately the bathroom and the bedroom are one room that is only divided by a small screen. The room is also very small and the price for the room is also a bit too much. It would also be good to have a stove or an oven in the room.
If we go to Clarens again we will not stay in any other place than Zwartmodder. Black mud is absolutely amazing. The gardens are beautiful, the surroundings are dead quiet and only a few km from the shops. The view of the mountains every morning calms one's soul. The room is comfortable and the beds sleep incredibly well. Marlise and her team are absolutely top notch, it felt like we were visiting a friend who was carrying us on her hands. Once again, Marlise, thank you very much for the incredible visit we were able to have at your place. You will definitely see us again.

On arrival at Zwartmodder we were welcomed with very nice cold fruit juice, a bite or two and a very nice lady who hands you your keys. The parking is safe and you don't need to take anything with you. There are clean towels on the bed every morning, cutlery at your disposal, microwave for a hot snack, a kettle plus all the necessary ingredients for a nice cup of hot coffee. Furthermore, in your room, there is a fridge with already fresh milk and Valpre water at your disposal. There was not a noise at Zwartmodder. You barely knew about the guests staying next to you. As previously mentioned. They really are my no.1 accommodation if we go to Clarens again. Fantastic. Picture pretty, and very romantic. They see us again. Thanks for a nice weekend Zwartmodder.

Not all people have a gift of hosting. Marlise certainly made us feel very much at home, coffee facilities and biscuits standing by. What more could a weary traveler want! The businesses are even reachable on foot and to go for a nice walk in the morning, not something you can enjoy anywhere in SA.

The bath and toilet are unfortunately not very private, but we realize that the space is limited. If we come again, we would prefer a different room.
Owner made an effort with SMS and calls to hear if we arrived safely. We were received with a delicious welcome drink. Although the room was a bit small, it was beautifully furnished, cozy and comfortable. We felt very safe. Would stay at Zwartmodder again anytime!
The location is approximately 650 meters from the square. We were welcomed with a delicious lemon drink, and fresh nuts and a small chocolate on a rolled towel on our bed. We were surprised with fresh buttermilk biscuits in the case where all the drinks are kept. We were provided with sufficient coffee and tea, with a small fridge, kettle and a microwave oven. The bench and table with cushions were convenient to sit outside and enjoy the surroundings. The roads of the neighborhood are not tarred and really rough driving place for a car. The parking for the cars is secure under lock and key under shade trees.

Peaceful, tranquil place. Here you can kick off your shoes and just chill. Very central location, safe and the welcoming gifts (droewors and fruit juice) were just what we needed. The guest house is perfectly located in the village and the welcome was all too friendly. The accommodation units were very clean, tidy and comfortable, and I will definitely stay there again.

Zwartmodder is an incredibly nice place to stay, right next to the mountain and what a beautiful view! The rooms are excellent, neat and clean. The water is nice and warm (boiling hot) - we were 5 people in a house with more than enough warm water for all of us. We were 7 people and we can't wait to go again. Thank you Zwartmodder, you are super cool!
It is very difficult to do justice to our experience at Zwartmodder with a few words. My mother and I visited Clarens on our way to another destination in July. Weeks ahead Marlise (the owner) were very patient with all my questions about the accommodation in Clarens. On the day she made sure we were safe via Whatsapp messages. We were warmly received - even Stelle, the friendly little guard dog welcomed us. Marlise showed us to our room and we were treated tot sherry and finger food. Both rooms were beautiful and stylishly furnished, we got much more than we needed. It was freezing, but the heaters, electic blankets and many other blankets kept us warm. Everything is very clean and neat and attention is paid to detail. I was in this industry for a long time and have a very critical eye, but I couldn't find anything to comlain about. The next morning we were treated to a delicious breakfast prepared by Marlise and served in the dining room with a view of the garden. Everything on the table was 5 star. Since we stay in Gauteng we were a bit worried about the parking in the street, but there were thus far no incidents. Marlise saw that I was a bit apprehensive about the parking and she immediately offered parking behind the electric gate on one of their private parking spots. I will definitely call again, but for a much longer stay. Book at Zwartmodder, you won't regret it!
This is exactly what was shown on the website and more. I will definitely go back. Very neat place with excellent hospitality without them intruding. Marelize's breakfast is a must.

Beautiful routes up the mountain for walking or climbing. Clarens's inhabitants are very friendly and helpful. The owners of the guesthouse are pleasant and hospitable people. Close enough to Golden Gate for walks and climbing or horse-riding. Clarens really offers everything for a great breakaway for any family or single person.
It is a beautiful room, we had a wonderful stay. Thank you for the nice treats in the room, such as the dry sausage, port and sweets. Will definitely stay there again.
Personally, the accommodation would have suited us even better if the following were improved: - Parking other than on the street must be provided. - An open plan toilet is not ideal. - We prefer a shower over a bath (the hand shower without a glass screen doesn't really work) - A small microwave would have been handy. But consider this please. as constructive comments. It remains a beautiful unit in a beautiful garden with a special hostess.

Accommodation, comfort and surroundings contributed to a wonderful 4 days in Clarens. Zwartmodder offers value for money, is within walking distance of the town and lies at the start of the walking trails. Advisable to book all meals in restaurants in Clarens in advance.

It was a very quick decision to go to Clarens. Was trying to find places and then came across Zwartmodder and it looked like a lovely place for just one night. Was surprised when our advice came and saw what the place looked like and met the friendly hostess.
Bathroom beautiful, but very cold. Geyser is too small for 4 people. The bathroom door has difficulty closing. The toilet is seperate and in a thoroughfare. The door is see through when the light is on, it does not leave much to the imagination and is an embarassment. The main bedroom has no privacy. The toilet and bathroom leads off the main bedroom. No TV or sitting place. Parking for some of the guests is in the street. Just seating outside and no self-catering facilities.
