This is a lovely little spot in Philippolis. We enjoyed our overnight stay and would happily book here again. The food from the restaurant was also divine! Yummy Karoo lamb!

It was beautifully decorated, clean, central, safe and had everything we needed. The hosts Johannes and Devan were welcoming and we had the most delicious dinner in the adjacent Ouma Anna restaurant with the tastiest venison pie ever! We will definitely be back, thank you. Communication with the hosts was clear and attentive. We were very happy.

Beautiful - "cozy". The cottage is comfortably furnished for an overnight stay. The sounds of the farm animals and peaceful Karoo silence are blissful for your soul - you forget you are in the village. Sorry we weren't in time for Ouma Anna's restaurant - next time!

"Absolute disappointment for the amount we had to pay."

On arrival we drove past the place, as there was a poor indication of where the house was. We were quite disappointed with what we got. On arrival there was no water - the place forgot to plug in the pump. A big problem was, when there is loadshedding, there is no water and you have to work with jugs of water in the bathroom. It was a big inconvenience the morning we wanted to drive - everyone was wet with sweat after the night of sleeping in an "oven", but none of us could shower the next morning before we wanted to drive. There was no table inside the house to eat at, the only table was outside and both the table and chairs were particularly dirty and you just sat down completely to eat there. The place has only two (one big and one small) steel fans whose heads cannot turn. The one fan stood on the floor at the bottom of the double bed. So the fan could only kind of blow the one person sleeping on the double bed cold. The other small fan was upstairs in the loft. Three people can sleep upstairs - the fan's head can't turn either. Luckily only one person had to sleep there otherwise there would be a fight over who gets the fan. The master bedroom has a fireplace with a built in staircase. The double bed is against the stairs, my parents over 70 had to sleep there and my father's foot caught on the stairs more than once - something that could potentially be very dangerous. The house's floors are also very slippery and all three of us slipped and almost fell a few times. The bathroom had no place to put your bath bag or clean clothes. We couldn't unpack any of our "toiletries" and had to put everything on the floor. Except for the toilet, there was no place to put your clean clothes to put on after showering. The gate outside the vehicle lock did not work, so we could not close the gate. For a place that is pet friendly, the place was not well fenced at all and a small dog could easily get away from the premises. For R1800 a night I really felt there could at least be decent standing fans. At least a coffee table in the living room to eat at and another plan with loadshedding to provide the guests with water.

Beautifully decorated and quaint place. Lovely linen. Comfortable and clean. The gardens need a bit of TLC. I would recommend for a couple and 2 children but not for 4 adults as the only bathroom is off the main suite.

Maintenance needed for moisture problem in bathroom. Would have appreciated if garden area where Weber stands and cobwebs between window and shutters dusted in living room. Otherwise beautiful, durable furniture and bedding and tableware!

Unit is beautifully furnished, neat and clean. Very good quality beds and linen. Fridge was stocked with water, juice, milk and there were delicious biscuits. Host was very helpful. Restaurant was unfortunately closed, so confirm in advance if it is open and book. Our host recommended us to the Philippolis Hotel where we were hospitably received and had a delicious dinner. Guests are welcome to visit the Hotel!

"Beautiful, clean self-catering accommodation."

The beautiful accommodation consists of a master bedroom with a king-size bed, with very good quality linen on the bed, an en-suite bathroom with a shower, toilet and a sink. Large bath towels were provided. There is another bedroom with 2 single beds which can be reached by stairs. The kitchen has a small fridge, microwave oven, kettle, crockery and cutlery. There is also a separate sitting room with a fireplace. There is no dining area in the unit, but a covered patio is available, if you exit through the living room doors, and there is a table and chairs where you can eat. We ate at Ouma Anna's Restaurant that evening. The restaurant is located on the premises, where we were spoiled with very good food and dessert. Bring cash to pay for your meal or else you will have to do an EFT. There was also a table specially set for us under the covered porch with candlelight for a romantic atmosphere. There is no TV or WiFi. The unit is pet friendly. The host was friendly and sent us a pin with directions in advance so that we could easily find the accommodation. We were kindly received. There was a water problem, but we were provided with plenty of 5-liter bottles of water. Philippolis is a cute town and we can recommend the accommodation at van der Post for nice and comfortable accommodation.

Van der Post is a beautiful place to sleep in Philippolis, very nicely done. The restaurant at the guest house is fantastic, we had a very nice evening in Philippolis.

It does get very chilly during winter since the place is cement. Otherwise, we had a great stay. It's situated next to a church and located on the main road which is perfect to walk to restaurants. Really enjoyed our stay.

The accommodation just needed a bit of care and attention: the toilet seat was loose, and I could not lock the outside front door from the inside. Also it had not been restocked with some supplies - coffee, shampoo etc, and only one (bath) towel had been left, so no hand towel, or tea towel. There was also an issue with water availability, so had to keep turning pump on and off. But a good place for dogs and lovely surroundings, thanks.

Our stay at Van der Post was very pleasant and comfortable. They have everything we needed and the place is very tastefully decorated. The host Johannes was very friendly and we enjoyed dinner in their restaurant on Saturday evening and simply read a little about the history of the place. The village is very quiet and interesting. We had a great stay!
