Situated between the Kruger National Park and Johannesburg, Acra-Retreat Mountain View Lodge is located on the edge of a cliff. This 11-hectare property is in the Elands Krans Nature Reserve.

There is an abundance of bird life, including owls, swallows, Loeries, guinea fowl just to name a few. One can watch the monkeys on the adjacent cliffs, sunning themselves or playing on the rocks.

The rooms are luxurious and welcoming. Each room has a view and its own entrance on to the outside deck or garden, where you can enjoy the magnificent panorama. Safe parking is guaranteed. Clean water is derived from the borehole tapping into a mountain stream which is 50m deep. The water is tested regularly to ensure its safe to consume.

Acra-Retreat has its own fully licensed pub. Sundowners can also be enjoyed on the deck whilst watching the magnificent display of colours on the mountains as the sun slowly sets. There is also a trampoline, swimming pool with a kiddies pool and a sheltered braai area for guests to make use of. Dinners are served on request by prior arrangement.

The hosts speak German, Dutch, English and Afrikaans. Emphasis is laid upon peace and tranquility.

Acra Retreat also helps to arrange trips to the famous Stone circles and Adam's Calendar. The Panorama Route, Blyde River Canyon and Bourke's Luck Potholes. It is also a perfect stop-over for international tourists, being only a 2-hour drive away from Johannesburg, and halfway to the Kruger National Park.

Activities that can be arranged include quad biking, bow shooting, blow dart shooting, paintball, horse riding, abseiling, mountain biking, mountain climbing, hiking for beginners and experienced hikers, trout or bass fishing, stone circle excursions and visits to Paul Kruger's house.

Breathtaking views in a tranquil mountain retreat! It was perfectly located for us, right next to one of the best climbing spots in the world. The team made it very nice for us with special attention to our baby's needs. The lodge is really beautiful.

Pleasant, peaceful stay in the hills. It rained out, mostly indoors. There was an electricity crisis. Generators are needed for emergencies. The hosts were wonderful and helpful.

There was a problem with the shower in the room we stayed in. The owners moved us to another room at no additional cost. Enjoyed it. Do think prices are high for what is offered. Otherwise a lovely place.

"Perfect ending to a "father and daughter weekend"."

I booked Acra-Retreat as a stopover after a bike race. I initially booked one room for me and my father, to avoid extra charges, but Acra gave us each a room at no extra charge upon my arrival. The breakfast was incredibly delicious and the hospitality excellent. The view from the balcony is incredibly beautiful and one can find peace of mind there. Perfect "halfway stop" between the city and the forest.

"Eccentric and slightly German"

ACRA has an amazing view, is clean and tidy and very cute. The house has a 1970s feel with German elements (which is slightly eccentric to see in 2020, but the house is very nicely maintained). There are two very friendly Rifrug dogs who welcome you and make you feel safe.

Stay was very nice, with friendly and helpful people. Food was very nice. View from the premises was beautiful. Photos on the site do not do justice to how beautiful the place really is.

Well located lodge halfway between O.R. Tambo and Kruger which is clean, staff friendly and has awesome breakfast! We were warmly welcomed to the lodge by staff and had a great overnighter, my only negative comment is that drink prices and meal prices should be well advertised. We opted for just the main course and not the 3-course menu but weren't advised what the cost would be for the main meal only, nor for the wine or whiskeys.

We were pleasantly surprised and were upgraded to another room at no additional cost. Owners and staff are friendly and helpful. However, the bathroom was a bit outdated and was not part of the upgrade of the room. The food was tasty prepared but in my opinion the 3 course themed dinner was not worth the price we paid for it and it might have been better to order a la carte instead. The bar bill was also higher than what we are used to as an average and it would be my recommendation that a price list be made available to travelers so that they place their orders accordingly.

"Holger, Hilda and Angie made it a real comfort zone for us after four days of hard hiking in freezing cold."

We landed at Holger and Angie's after four days of strenuous hiking in freezing conditions. Although we probably looked like extras from the television series "Lost", they welcomed us and immediately made us feel at home. After a shower and clean clothes, they welcomed us to the table like honored guests, and my wife and I had a nice chat with Aunt Angie over a drink. This morning before we left, they woke us up with a huge breakfast. The fat-eating family then walked through the garden with Sizie, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, and admired the view of the Waterval Boven valley. We would definitely recommend this hidden wonder of Waterfall Boven with its hospitable, friendly Germans to any traveler looking for relaxation and tranquility.

Norma and Holge are 2 wonderful people and you can see their place. Their staff is just as fantastic. We were there with our 4 month old baby and they really looked after his needs as well. The food was fantastically tasty and the breakfast you get is fit for a king. The rooms are amazing with the most comfortable bed! Will definitely go back to the Acra family!

"It was pleasant, only very disappointed that the pool did not have water in it and that you do not have your own bathroom and toilet."

I understand that it rained a lot and that's why the pool was green and they had to drain the water, but they could have let me know. It was extremely hot! For some people it probably doesn't matter, but I really like swimming, especially if you want the experience. Otherwise it was very pleasant and the food was excellent, the view was very good. They brought a whole case of toys for my daughter. If the pool is full again then it must be a very pleasant place. I paid for what I saw in the picture and unfortunately that is not what I got. Rooms are comfortable, but one has to share a bathroom and toilet.

I would defnitely recommend it, we went for a weekend away and it was very relaxing.

Security as a whole in the area not good. Tourist spots targeted and one must be vigilant. Norma went out of her way to show us the falls @ a safer lookout point which was really appreciated. Acra lodge is a bit of sunshine in an declining area.
