There were only unwanted guests who made a lot of noise one night throughout the night. At least the host sorted it out after we complained. Rules say no music and noise, and they hung out and drank all night until the next morning, and had guests stick in a van next to us and walk back and forth through our place and tease kids in front of us through the glass door the dogs .
The stay was perfect, the location was ideal for our trip and close to the beach. The only problem was the cockroaches.

Due to the windy weather, Colin (host & owner) upgraded us (even before we arrived) to a unit with an indoor braai. . We stayed in Pansy Shell, a 2 bedroom unit next to the owners apartment, which gives you that “flashback to the late 80s, early 90s feel”. Barnacles is like a small block of apartments, walking distance from a beautiful beach. . The little dog, Lulu, was so friendly!
Yes. Although it is very cramped, it does not look at all like the photos on the ad. The place needs a good cleaning. The only bright spot was the nice hot water.

Colin is a great host and very friendly. The flatlet is perfect for a couple. Just big enough and everything that you could need. You have sea views and you can hear the sea in the distance. We saw wales from day 1 and it was amazing to see so many all the time. The beach is within walking distance. Will be definitely back again for sure. P.S. the beds are firm but super comfy.

Problems with owner sorted out.
There are no car guards, beggars or people harassing you on the beach. Someone should just advertise where one can buy fresh fish. The cod was delicious.,

Collin is a lovely laid back host. He was very accessible via sms before we arrived, promptly answering any questions. The flat is small, but for the price it is spot on. So if you want space this place is not for you. It has everything you can need for your stay. However, if you are picky about certain kitchen essentials i.e knife, potato peeler, pack your own. Also, the flat has an electric stove. If you want fast, bring gas burner with. The flat is also a bit cold, so bring slippers for your feet. Outside braai is lovely! If you want luxury then go find a more expensive place. On location you can't fault Barnacles. Walking distance (and I'm lazy) to blue flag beach, the tidal pool and Anchorage Restaurant. Really loved our stay!
Was only in Witsand for two days. Our stay at The Barnacles was very close to the beach and ideal for two people. The accommodation was neat and clean and very affordable, good value for money.

We stayed in Jolly 2 which is very comfortably furnished for 2 people. Everything we needed was there and the two bonuses were that I could pull my vehicle directly in front of Jolly 2's sliding door and that there was also a lovely built-in braai area right by the door. It just made everything so much more convenient. From there we could walk to the sea which is very close but far enough from the public car park that we couldn't be bothered by anyone. In terms of privacy, Jolly 2 completely met our requirements. There are sufficient curtains to draw if one finds it necessary and in terms of safety, Jolly 2 is located in such a way that one does not feel threatened or uncomfortable in any way.

You won't find better value for money in Witsand than at Barnacles. Colin the host was very helpful and friendly. The apartment had everything one could need and the TV with Netflix and YouTube was perfect for keeping our 6 year old busy at night. We were walking distance from the beach as well as a nice restaurant on the sea front. Would definitely recommend Barnacles.

The unit is comfortable and one does not need much more, the TV with Netflix in a pleasant bonus for the little ones. It is also located very close to the beach. If I could make one recommendation it would be that attention should be paid to the fact that the cutlery must be clean. We had to wash some of the cutlery before we could use it, but that's not the end of the world. There is also no tongs, but other than that it was really, really nice. Colin is very pleasant and received us kindly, he also allowed us on the last day to leave later to spend the rest of the day there. I would definitely stay there again.

I found it an expensive option for a single person stayover. It was a frustration that two emails and an SMS to Colin remained unanswered. This affected my travel arrangements. Although I lacked nothing, I am lukewarm about the unit. Light inside was not great and it was a toss up with curtains closed or open at the windows which face to the adjacent property, privacy vs. light. Net curtains could fix that.

Quiet, safe place with a view and walking distance from the beach. Nice getaway weekend place with everything you need.
At first we were only going to get away for 4 days, but we had such a good time that we didn't really want to leave and so the break was extended to a whole week. Colin is the perfect host, friendly and helpful. The highlight was the delicious nutritious soup he treated us to when the power was out and we couldn't cook ourselves. If our health and finances allow it, we will definitely visit Barnacles again.

Having travelled vastly around SA, mostly using self-catering accommodation, there seems to be common shortcomings such as: 1. Shelf in bathroom wide enough to keep toiletries etc.2. Hotplates that don't function optimally. 3. Sufficient hooks for hanging clothes etc. 4 Shower with place to store shampoo etc. Just some things that could greatly improve comfort.
The cottage is quite cramped with only 1 bathroom and toilet for 4 people. The DStv gave many problems and we specifically looked for a place with DStv to watch rugby. Parking for car is next to the house without cover. No cupboard to pack away food in kitchen. A few basic items were missing in the kitchen, such as wooden spoon, only 2 steak knives. We had a great time in Witsand, but were definitely not very happy with the accommodation.

Thank you for a fantastic weekend and clean, tidy, practical accommodation in Pansy Shell. Good quality linen and bed in master bedroom. Within 1 minute walk from the beach, located on the top floor, so there are some stairs (for if you have difficulty walking). 2 small apartments on the ground floor are the most adorable places I've ever seen, so cute and small and cozy - ideal for a romantic getaway for two, or a nice relaxing weekend for 2, young and old! The apartments are fully equipped with everything you could need. Colin was very helpful, right next to your flat if you need him - yet you have your own privacy. Pansy Shell does not have outdoor barbecue facilities, but a very nice indoor barbecue, charcoal grill available on request! Collin was so lovely and let us have a BBQ at one of the other apartments on the Friday night! (My husband doesn't understand a charcoal grill.) Any suggestions: future planning - maybe a canopy over Pansy Shell's porch with an outdoor grill, then you're 101% ready for any guests! Thanks Collin, see you again one of these days - we still have to go swimming in the pool next time!
The Jolly flatlet is quite small, the toilet didn't work perfectly and the one light in the kitchen/lounge area out of order. Also, the kettle doesn't switch off automatically. But overall we had a fantastic weekend. Colin was very hospitable and friendly and the accommodation was clean upon arrival, equipped with all that you need!

There was no problem. Just can't sit outside. The sun comes up in the morning and then everything has to stay closed, can't sit in a closed place all day. Will have to put on some type of sunscreen.

The apartment is very convenient, except for the shower. There needs to be a space for soap dishes and so forth in the shower and the bathroom has a normal window which makes it uncomfortable seeing as how the hallway next to it is a thoroughfare and is open to the house above. The microwave's turntable's glass is broken. The second place was very pleasant. We were upgraded to a bigger unit at the beginning.

We had a great time. The place was clean, tidy and just right for us.
And we planned our getaway accordingly. However, our disappointment was great when, upon arrival, other guests were mistakenly placed in our unit. The situation was unpleasant and the end result was that after more than 3 hours of travel to Witsand we had to drive around for more than an hour while the unit could be sorted out. This put a damper on our getaway and first visit to Witsand.
The place is fantastically set up for 2 people and you don't have to look for anything and nothing is in your way. Clean, tidy warm place and an even warmer and very friendly owner. I will recommend the place to my family and friends anytime! The sea/beach is a stone's throw away. When you stand on that porch, you see the people walking, fishing and playing on the beach. We really enjoyed it. And then Colin, the owner, makes it even more comfortable and enjoyable by chatting with you often and many times giving advice on where to go for the day. Thanks for the reference to entertainment! It was an experience.

I had a great time in Witsand and my stay was very nice. I really enjoyed the tranquility. The view was amazing and the whales could be seen from my living room. I would recommend it to someone who just needs a getaway.

Stayed at Barnacles for three nights, exploring Witsand and the surrounding area. It is a compact apartment, but clean and tidy and very well equipped. Will definitely stay there again.
The owner went out of his way to make you feel at home and ensure you enjoy your time there.
We were well received; the people are very friendly in Witsand. It is very quiet and peaceful there, and we could sleep with peace of mind without any hustle and bustle. Lulu, the owner's puppy, was too cute; She stopped by every day. It was simply fantastic and I would recommend it to friends anytime.
We had a lovely, peaceful stay without interference from the hosts but a lot of helpfulness from them. They did our washing when they heard we wanted to go out for the morning but had a lot of washing to get done (which was sweet)! Everything was provided for a comfortable stay and best of all to us was the top sheet!! How I detest sleeping under a duvet only!
