House was very neat and clean. Large rooms and equally large living area. The only downside is the parking. Have to stop one behind the other and have to change cars all the time when leaving.

Baroe House is well furnished and comfortable. It will probably be very nice during the summer. We were there during the winter, in a snow storm, and to top it all off the whole town was without electricity for at least a day. This unusual confluence of circumstances brought Baroe's shortcomings into sharp focus. The house is bitterly cold with no effective form of heating and is also not effectively set up for power outages. This makes the house a wickedly cold destination in winter - when Sutherland is one of the coldest towns in RSA. There are asbestos wall heaters in all rooms, but the heaters are designed for small areas and therefore extremely ineffective for such a large area. There is also an indoor braai, which works very well, but only as a braai. An indoor braai is not designed to act as a fireplace, as all hot air escapes via the chimney. The house could do with a large fireplace. Power outages are part of our life in RSA. The only precaution Baroe took was a gas stove (which works very well!) and 4 oil lanterns - one of which had no oil in it. The 3 oil lamps were indeed romantic, but not at all effective, and they make the house very dark. There are many emergency lights developed specifically for the purpose, and freely available - the house can do with a few of them. Luckily there were plenty of blankets (both wool and electric) to ward off the chill while we were in the cabin. So - Baroe will be a nice destination in the summer. But it's damn cold in the winter!

We had a nice stay. The house was very nicely furnished and comfortable. Because our family is large, it just worked out to be very expensive per night. We were satisfied with the place.
