What a great experience, the open cave, stars at night and the incredible kloof setting make this a really unique way to experience a night in the Baviaanskloof. The cave is well equipped with everything you need including very comfortable mattresses. For something totally different, give Baviaanskloof Bakkrans a go!

This was my 3rd time visiting Bakkrans Cave, every time is a good experience. Cooking utensils and facilities are adequate for the outdoor experience. The flush toilet is always a bonus, but unfortunately, the gas geyser didn't switch on, so we had no hot water. (The gas cylinder was in an open position). Everything was clean and the mattresses were comfortable.
The cave was very comfortably furnished and everything was very clean. The shower was probably one of the best showers ever - water pressure fantastic! The location is stunning! Fantastic so outside in the beautiful scenery.
What an experience it was!
An absolutely amazing experience. Not having to pitch tents (or pack them away the next morning) was a very welcome change to our trip. Waking up to the stars peeking through the cave opening was amazing. We unfortunately didn't get to meet Ankia (we arrived quite late), but she was very friendly and helpful via text communications and even arranged extra wood for us, after dark. Don't think twice about it, if you are going past there, you have to spend at least one night!
It was great to be able to sleep outside in nature without cell phone reception and electricity. Bakkrans is a very special place for our family.
The temperature is a consideration for many people. I can assure you that winter or summer, it is not a problem at all.
It was beyond expectation. Very nice and clean. There is a full kitchen. We didn't use our gas bottles at all. There are two plate gas facilities. We almost drove past the entrance. The gate to Bakkrans is almost opposite the old shop where the old petrol pump is.
Very nice atmosphere and it was so nice to explore the gorge.
Very close to Mother Nature, everything was also neat and clean. Everything there that is needed, make sure of fire/barbecue wood. Still for sale also on farm. Well protected from wind and rain.
There is a splash pool that can be filled with water to cool off.
There is no cell phone signal, there is no power. It's just man and nature. There is a gas stove and a gas donkey (for hot water for the shower) and a flush toilet. Everything is so beautifully laid out and so neat. We were a small group of 4 adults and 2 children and it was good to get away from town - away from technology. And even though the cave is open we didn't feel unsafe.
Very neat cave. Nicely sheltered from rain. Good quality mattresses. Nice hanging out area. Nearby parking for vehicle. Take advantage of Ankia's dinner options. Best ever. Best gorge experience, good base for cycling, walking or excursion into park. Highly recommended.
We really enjoyed our time in the cave. It was really neat and they provided us with cute little lights. I would definitely recommend this place.
Amazing place! If you'd like the cave experience, but are a little scared of bugs, then this is your place. Wonderfully clean, tidy and very well equipped. Great to have no cell phone signal. Beautiful scenery. Highly recommend Bakkrans.

Cutlery was too few for group of seven.
Lovely, helpful hosts. Very generous food portions. Cave needs attention though, i.e. the hole in cement floor needs to be filled. The kitchen tap needs to be replaved.. Water heating takes far too long. Not hot. The toilet and shower leaks. Fix bridge panels. Bakkrans signboard not visible. Enjoyable stay though. A helpful welcome!
Immersed in nature. Lots of small game spottings, great venue. Something completely different from the "norm".
Don't miss Aunt Aletta's delicious farm food. Arrange at reception for that.
Very well equipped. Perfect for any nature lover. In nature, but with everything you need. Just take your own food. We will undoubtedly return.
We arrived a little late in the evening, Ankia let us know we were there 5 minutes later and dinner was delivered in the evening. Early morning breakfast. I recommend anyone to visit Bakkrans it is well worth it.

Amazing hike through the dry river bed. Ideal for a big group with kids. Sleep under the stars. Total peace.
The kids had a wonderful and adventurous time staying in a real cave. The view when you go to bed at night or wake up in the morning is something we will cherish for a long time to come! Close proximity to the Baviaans Nature Reserve makes Bakkrans a very nice stop-over. Pleasant people who will do their utmost to make you feel welcome. Order roosterkoek during your visit - they are divine!
We were 4 families (17 people) traveling together. There was plenty of room and mattresses for everyone. Definitely a place where you move a little out of your comfort zone, but we would all stay there again in a heartbeat. Kitchen and bathroom facilities are basic, but you get by with what's there. Everything was neat and ready for us (apart from a few rubbish bags from previous guests who only came to collect it in the late afternoon) It is beautiful in the part of the gorge that surrounds you and we had a nice walk up the rocky river bed. We had no contact with the owners at all. Just get there and start unpacking and hanging out!
Have known the kloof for many years. The Bakkrans is one of the gems in the kloof. That's if you love the outdoors.
This is not everyone's idea of fun, but if you are an outdoors person and love nature this is a must! Everything was neat and clean. What a wonderful experience to sleep in a cave like that!
Great stopover, sleeping in the open, under the cave overhang. Nice ablutions, nice braai place, adequately equipped. No power, paraffin lamps plenty!
Adventurous? Then this is definitely the place to visit. However, if you are not a big nature lover, this is not the place for you. We enjoyed every moment, it was an experience. The view, the sounds of nature, the animals, the gorges, the people, it's another world! Thank you very much for a wonderful stay!
