Broadwater was an unexpected gem! Beautiful accommodation that offers enough privacy from other guests. From the office to site staff were very friendly, and the nice (reasonably priced!) food at the restaurant was a bonus.

It's my third time staying at Broadwater River Estate, there's something about the place that always makes me go back. Clean, peaceful, beautiful. A home away from home.
If anyone ever wants to explore the Douglas area Broadwater River Estate is not the place to choose. It looks nothing like what is advertised. Old fridge, which is dirty. No wine glasses, braai or tongs. Amenities are old. Bench on the stoep at braai is dirty and falling apart. Braai has not been washed in years. Water was cold and shower head did not work. It was a horrible end to a lovely December holiday. Disappointing.
The management even called us to see if we were still safe, when we didn't arrive at the planned time.

We had a great time staying there. Room was clean, there was no noise. We felt safe. The breakfast was delicious, very friendly staff. We would recommend the place to everyone. Just make sure the GPS doesn't take you to the right place, we just called and they gave us a good explanation of how to get there.
Room was very neat, clean and modern. Secure parking. Quiet and peaceful even on the Saturday night of a long weekend. Friendly service at reception and in the restaurant. Sunsets over the river are breathtaking.
The lady at ontvabgs was very helpful, I think her name is Roxy. We arrived late and she herself helped with plates and food late at night. Unfortunately for me the walls in the bedrooms are thin. You could hear the people next door talking and snoring. I should have booked one of the stand alone chalets. Otherwise, it's still a nice, comfortable place.
The location is fantastic. View from the restaurant and the restaurant itself is very nice. The included breakfast was nice. The chalet itself was clean and tidy and well equipped. However, the shower head sprayed water everywhere except where it should. We couldn't sort. The bathtub plug was broken, we couldn't bathe. The second room's shower was clogged so it was a mess. Water gushed out of the air conditioning. Management's solution was a bucket and a towel. Difficult to sleep with water pouring out at a rate. The bucket had to be emptied more than once throughout the night. The braai area and grill were dirty. Both have not been cleaned for a long time. Tiles at the braai place that fell off a long time ago are still lying like that. The bench on the porch was broken. The porch was dirty. The pool was very dirty. We couldn't swim either.
On arrival they first said I still owed money - then I confirmed I had paid everything to the website, but apparently they hadn't received it yet. When we walked into our chalet, we walked through cobwebs and then there were cobwebs and a few spiders everywhere in the corners. Okay, it's in nature/field, but one would expect them to clean it before we come. The bench outside was so full of cobwebs we didn't want to sit on it. We did hear the next day that the place had been cleaned before we came - but it really didn't feel like it. We were disappointed to see that there is not really a kitchen. There was a sink outside with a microwave and two plate stove, also outside...I don't know how that works when it rains. The barbecue area was dirty and the grill looked like it had never been cleaned. The next morning when the lady came to clean she had to get reinforcements to help her, because we were so unhappy about the state of the place. After she finished (almost 4 hours) it was better. The road to the estate is an ugly dirt road, but it is not their fault. The estate has many unfinished buildings. It doesn't look very nice. My children were looking forward to the pool and slide! Well, the pool was filled with river water (dirt) and the slide was overgrown with bushes. Again, probably not their fault that the river was in flood and flooded everything, so much so that on the second day you couldn't even see the pool anymore. Some of the anglers had to evacuate - due to the river that came down. Again not the estate's fault, but there was nothing else to do. Couldn't swim. Couldn't go on the river. No extra stuff was offered to keep the kids busy. How about board games or volleyball? At a four-star place one would expect WiFi - yes, you can pay R35 for 500MB. So, yes, I wouldn't just recommend Broadwater Estate, especially for people with small children who might need a microwave or sink during the night. It was nice that the generator kicked in every time with loadshedding, but not in the evening. People have complained that it keeps them awake. And now the other people, should they just sit in the pitch black and count toes?
Our neighbors were noisy for a while, but at least not too long and too late.

Plug falls out of wall. Very dangerous. Make up bed. Only 1 single bed had sheet and duvet where 2 children had to sleep. Toilet seat loose.
Was very disappointed as it was my first time. Place not clean. Even the restaurant's floors were dirty with cobwebs under the table and chairs. Very unsafe because the deck and stairs' boards are loose and a big safety risk. My grandson got hurt at the water slide with a huge lump on his head. Porch and tables were full of old dust and leaves. Place really needs urgent attention.
The amenities at Broadwater are top notch and the camp bathrooms are very neat and clean. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I have only two suggestions: Management may have to ask the campers to be quiet after a certain time. Unfortunately, we chose a weekend where there were a lot of noise and they played music till 04:00 in the morning. Secondly, a table/wooden bench at each stand would be very convenient as there are none. We will go back again anytime.

We went camping there. There was a big storm the Friday evening. Broadwater offered us a room. They were worried about our safety. Unfortunately we couldn't leave our car, fearing further damage. Quiet setting, beautiful scenery, friendly service. Would recommend to anyone.
Broadwater is a lovely place to rest and just switch off. The nature is beautiful and the men even caught a few fish. The accommodation is very neat and the meals in the restaurant very tasty. I can highly recommend it to the Northern Capers who are looking for a place to rest. It will also be a beautiful wedding venue for brides.
Being close to water soothes one's soul. Broadwater River Estate is beautifully appointed on the banks of the Vaal River. The chalets are tastefully decorated and are extremely comfortable and snug, given that we have stayed during mid-winter. The restaurant and dining area exude light and space. The choice of breakfasts is very good and I enjoyed every bite of my traditional breakfast! Staff were friendly and tended to our needs. Relaxing alongside the river or on one's private patio is a wonderful experience under our African sun.
I would have appreciated if management would have monitored the loud music in the camp site after 10pm. It went on till 1am.

Firstly, on arrival we were disappointed as our booking was made for a river front and was confirmed with the people at Broadwater after making my booking. We were given a stand at the back by the boat yard! Not a very attractive view. We could not even see the river from our stand. We ate at the restaurant the first night as when we arrived a storm was coming up. My food was delicious (stack chicken schnitzel) but my husbands pork chops were way too salty. For the amount of people staying at Broadwater the swimming pool is not appropriate. I am not sure if there were too many day visitor but it was unbearable. Other than that we enjoyed our stay. Thank you!

Beautiful, on the Vaal. Friendly staff with restaurant overlooking the water. Food and service are great. Great for children with swimming pool, "small super-tube" and lovely area for the angler. Nice camping area too.
The individual bathrooms for each campsite are a bonus.
We enjoy having a self catering option when travelling away for a weekend or holiday. The kitchen area is situated outside alongside the patio, which was a bit chilly for a winter stay. Nevertheless, we loved the ambience and relaxation afforded by being on the banks of a beautiful river and having a warm, snug chalet to relax in. The chalets are beautifully furnished inside.
Broadwater River Estate is a beautiful place with comfortable rooms and access to the restaurant makes it possible for guests to enjoy meals, even though it is outside of town. The rooms are clean and convenient and equipped as needed.
The apartment was pretty neat. The linen was clean, but the stove/oven was unfortunately dirty and the patio furniture has not been wiped down for a while (we had to wash all the dust ourselves). The decor is really beautiful. I will say that the place cannot accommodate 7 people, at most 5 - there is a king-size bed and 3 single beds, unless someone wants to sleep on a corner couch. The restaurant and bar was also very beautiful and the area is beautiful. I had one complaint, there were residents among us who started screaming and screaming early in the day. After midnight the same group of people were still shouting and noise, nobody made any effort to address them. We may not play music, but they could shout and scream. After my complaint, it was better.
I was very disappointed with the room that we got especially because of what I paid for it. I expected more. It was basically only a room with a bathroom. When we arrived, the sleeper couch for my son was not prepared, they only brought the bedding after we arrived. Broadwater is a beautiful place and very peaceful. The staff of Broadwater is very friendly and helpful.
GPS coming from Kimberley takes you to a different place. They underestimate the impact of the wedding the previous day, leaving new guests till late for their rooms to be ready.

It is clean and the reception was so friendly. Camping spot becomes very slippery when it rains and they had to tow us. A pity day visitors chilled right next to our camping site and they moved throught our site.
Accommodation acceptable, food good but choice limited. Room service good as well as security. WiFi and Internet access unacceptable. Atmosphere calm and relaxed.
Had we known the place was so beautiful, we would have made arrangements for a longer stay. The only disappointing thing was their boat had burned down. It would have been good to do the cruise.

We initially booked for 2 nights, but after the first night, we said goodbye the next morning. No aircon that works. No electric blankets or heaters! No carpet on the cold cement floor. The house is a small fridge in the winter. Had to go out at night to warm my baby's bottle - no microwave inside the house. The house was dirty and covered in cobwebs! Breakfast was pathetic and we each enjoyed a slice of "toast" before we walked. Food was everywhere on the floor in the dining hall. Tables were neatly set, but so dirty! Would not recommend it at all for people with small children in the winter!
