Stone paths are uneven and difficult to walk on. The Executive Suite did not meet safety requirements. There are no railings on the stairs and the tiles on the stairs to the bathroom are smooth. The living room was set up for extra sleeping space, although we were only 3 people and there were two rooms (without wardrobes). There was no television.
Owners are welcoming.
My wife and I will never visit this place again. The cabin 1 that we stayed in is OK, not bad, but the bathroom is in a terrible state. Cleanliness is 0 for us. I asked to move to another room the next day and the cleanliness in that room was worse. The drain for the shower was not working. The basins in both rooms are dirty and looked like they have never been cleaned in 2 months or so. Overall we expected to have a nice weekend but my wife was so unhappy. The staff (manager) was a nice guy, but the place to stay I would not recommend again.
Grill very dirty, could not grill on it. Fridge not very clean either. Limited kitchenware.
Anne and her staff make you feel like you are at home. The pub is awesome, we made many new friends and look forward to coming again.
People with trawlers or a large rig for fishing will not be able to fish comfortably inside Candy's Lodge itself, but rather on the shore outside the lodge. That's just because you can't park the trawler at your fishing site. There is parking nearby but you will have to carry everything in. Lapa 3's bathroom was a bit awkward with steps and little space but for a weekend away it won't bother so much. We enjoyed our weekend and had a great time fishing. Thanks to Anne and her brother and greetings to little Princess Daisy the woof.
Just think they could really pay some attention to the log cabins, the bathrooms are a problem, very outdated, need some upgrading. Otherwise we had a really nice stay, my husband also suggested to Allan about extra shelf for kitchen area.
Candy's Lodge is well situated and quite easy access once you get there. There was constant activities taking place on the river during the weekend for all to enjoy such boating for the extreme and fishing for the relaxing visitors.
We enjoyed our stay. Where the car is parked is some distance from the chalet which makes carrying luggage a bit tricky and when there are other guests they pass your chalet so not that private, but there is a nice playground for the kids and everything you need.
When we got there, we were comfortably received. When we did get into the room the dishes on the shelves were dirty, oily and unpleasant. Even the dish rack on which we had to pack the clean dishes was dirty and needed to be washed. There was no sponge, just a ball of steel wool which was terribly dirty and we had to go and ask for a sponge. The knife stuff is minimal. One sharp knife, one wine glass. And one set of normal cutlery per person. No tongs, no spatula, nothing to physically cook food with in the pan except a fork. The stove plate provided only works on one plate and takes an awful long time to heat up. The pictures of the lodge and what it really looks like can be seductive. It is significantly more dated than the photos. And very small.
Have a great time. Vaaloewer has everything you are looking for. Even a supermarket on site. Candy gives excellent customer service.
We enjoyed the tranquility along the river. Had peace of mind that Covid protocols were adhered to. It was lovely coming out but still having the sense of security of being in your safe space.

We enjoyed our stay, though our chalets were a bit far from each other - this made unnecessary up and down.
The staff are fantastic. So friendly and helpful. They make the place. Lovely view from the bar. River is beautiful. The accommodation needs to be modernised though. Please replace the plastic kettle and shower handle in the bath with cleaner versions. There was body lotion on the cupboards with handprints all through it. Various parts of the kitchen need to be modernised. Otherwise a lovely friendly pretty place. Expensive to launch boat, so thank you for the offer of a free day. Sadly we needed to leave.
We were received very kindly and taken to our unit where everything worked and was neat and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We recommend the restaurant, food was very good, staff at bar very friendly. Would definitely recommend.
We were close to the river, the accommodation was neat. The owners were very friendly.
Available cutlery is dirty. My husband took a plate off the shelf to use but couldn't because there was still grease stuck to the bottom of the plate. Knives, forks dirty and container they are in was full of dust and crumbs. The windows of the unit are dirty and bathroom also dirty. Could see that the toilet is still dirty as well as the shower. It is difficult to prepare food (spreading sandwiches or just scooping up food - no work surfaces) and washing dishes as there are no facilities such as a kitchen in unit (no sink). I think it is not possible to be self-sufficient in unity. Additionally, we were unable to use the restaurant facilities as we were told on arrival that there was a group of 34 people they were catering for for breakfast and lunch but the restaurant would be closed to our other guests. I mean, what's going to happen to them to offer 2 extra guests if we want to eat too - after all, we're paying for it. The unit also needs attention, wood rots and you can see the house needs attention. Later we were asked if we wanted to move to another unit further away from the noise and we wanted to, but were then told we couldn't because there were people coming into that particular unit the day we were leaving. So the unit was empty just because they didn't want to clean it when we went out because they cater for their 34 guests - they are too busy. We couldn't sleep at all because there are people visiting our unit all the time day and night, talking, bumping or knocking against the unit and there are people moving around us all the time - all the time. We had no privacy. I feel the owner could have let us know about this group of people who booked the resort and whether we were still interested in staying there. The lodge did not consider us at all, we are also paying customers.
The reception very friendly and sincere. The lodge was chosen because there were activities that were recommended, which was however the biggest disappointment of the weekend. Boats and jet skis make fishing impossible and are a constant nuisance from as early as six thirty in the morning until seven in the evening. Refrigerator doesn't get cold and the shower's water stank so much that it was also quite unpleasant. Equipment definitely needs maintenance.
Not very clean and tidy. Bathroom not cleaned well, there was a musty smell in the cabin. Far from pool and river. Sheets had marks on them. No pre-inspection is done. Only if the place is left. Als is picked off and counted. As if one were a thief. Why wasn't it done on arrival too.
Very quiet and peaceful place. Can turn off when you are there. Can also go fishing and have a nice beer at the Wharf pub.
Fishing area very wooded and boats pass close to shore all day. The kitchen is not well equipped. Maintenance not up to standard.
