Fully equipped house, perfect for a weekend getaway.
We had a family reunion at Cockleshell House - 8 people staying over and more visiting for lunch/dinners. The house held us all comfortably. At one stage, we were 12 people for Sunday lunch and it still didn't feel overcrowded. There was enough crockery, cutlery and glasses for everyone. The weather was atrocious, but the wood-burning stove kept us warm. We drove out to enjoy olive, beer and wine tasting in the area. When it wasn't raining, we went for long walks amongst the fynbos. We had a little buck nibbling on leaves in front of the house and a flock of Franklins coming to look for food on the veranda. It was the perfect place to host our family gathering and make wonderful memories. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful sea view and holiday home, fully equipped for 8 people. There is battery system that keeps TV and lights on during loadshedding, and the en suite rooms are a bonus. Note 2 rooms are on the second floor and one only has a bath, but that was no problem for us. Will definitely book here again!
The house was neat and clean and had everything that we needed. The plus for us was that there was no load shedding so we could watch our sports programmes.
If you want to recharge your batteries by staring at the most beautiful sunset for hours, go on hiking trails or just watch the beautiful marine life and other creatures, I would recommend this destination. You will not regret it!

The house is equipped with all the facilities one could need, very tidy and walking distance from the beach. We had a great time on the stoep. It can be recommended to anyone who needs a break in nature.

It's a gem in our West Coast. Cottage is beautiful and has everything you need. It's a place where you can find yourself again. The sunrise and sunset were something to experience.
As many people have said, you do need to bring absolutely everything (even toilet paper and soap) since there are no nearby shops, and there's a lovely indoor fireplace (kaggel) so remember to bring wood for that if it's cold! But the house is beautiful, with a fully equipped kitchen, lovely bedrooms (each with private bathroom) and plenty of space. The reserve is stunning and very quiet with a wonderful beach just a few minutes walk away. Martin is the perfect host, very nice and helpful. We will definitely be back for another holiday!
This is our third stay here - love that their are en-suite bathrooms for each room. Location is perfect. Just a great short getaway from the city - peaceful and quiet. A good addition would be a filter on the kitchen tap for drinking water as we had to go out to buy filtered water for drinking.

Very neat house in a great location in Grotto Bay. Very peaceful and relaxing. We took a few strolls on the beach and around the estate, which was great. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, which allowed for some personal space, and always a plus to have a dishwasher. You do have to take a lot of your own things with you, like wood, firelighters and matches, basic condiments, tea and coffee, etc.
The view is breathtaking. And the house very well equipped. Will definitely consider it again.
Grotto's breathtaking scenery and Cockleshell's wonderful location will always stay with us. The house is well equipped and spotlessly clean, will definitely visit here again and recommend it to friends.
Our car was unfortunately not licensed and they would not let us in the gate to even drop our stuff off at the house. We had a 5 year old and an 8 month old baby with us. We were not advised this before we arrived. Apparently this is a new thing and was only passed the day before we arrived. I still don't understand what our vehicle licence has to do with the stay. The owner did honestly try everything to get us in but they were not budging. Maybe they need to mention that to the next guests.

I would recommend ceiling fans / mounted fans in the rooms for summer and maybe softer pillows. Otherwise can not fault the house at all, we had an awesome time.
Cockleshell Beach House was an incredible experience. We immediately relaxed and felt like we were in the heart of nature. We will definitely come again.
Thank you so much that we could stay there. I'd just like a mirror in the rooms. It's very difficult to blow out long hair without a mirror. Other than that, everything was wonderful.

All of us (4 old and 4 young), enjoyed the weekend incredibly. Such a beautiful, well equipped and very comfortable house. Everything is spotless. All 4 rooms have a sea view and private bathrooms ─ what a bonus! The environment is blissful, safe and the most beautiful scenery. Many thanks Martin for the friendly and easy check-in.
